Tyler Perry’s ‘Divorce In The Black’ CLEARS Prime Amazon New Subscriber Records Despite Less Than Favorable Reviews

image

Tyler Perry stay winning. His latest film, “Divorce in the Black”, has been killing it for Prime Video. The drama may have received harsh criticism from reviewers but its value to Amazon is undeniable.

So check this out, according to “Variety”, the movie has been driving new Prime Video subscriptions. What does that really mean? “Divorce in the Black” is achieving the highest subscriber increase among any Amazon-MGM-produced projects to date.

Get this wild figure. The film attracted significant viewership, amassing 498 million minutes watched within its first four days on the platform. During the week of July 8-14, “Divorce in the Black” ranked third on Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming chart, trailing behind Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and Paramount’s “If”.

So basically it’s a tour de force.

ICYMI, “Divorce in the Black” was released on July 11, and has emerged as one of Tyler Perry’s most divisive films, receiving a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Hold up. ZERO PERCENT? Sheesh … That marks the lowest rating on RT, of any Perry film, ever … OMG.

Anyways, the Prime Video exclusive stars Meagan Good and Cory Hardrict as a couple dealing with the aftermath of their split. Good’s character, Ava, is a banker whose marriage to her abusive husband, Dallas, deteriorates. As Ava tries to move on, Dallas vows to make her life miserable. That’s the synopsis and critics hate it but people are watching it. Go figure.

Despite the ugly criticism, “Divorce in the Black” has found massive success in connecting with audiences and boosting Prime Video’s subscriber base. Like they needed any more money. Ha.

Trump and Elon Attempt Interview on ‘X’ But Technical Difficulties Cause Embarrassing Delay

image

A highly anticipated interview between Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump was delayed due to a reported distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, which Musk owns. So wait, Musk paved the way for Trump to reemerge on X, schedule an interview and they get an error message? You can’t make this up.

Musk posted on X that the company was working to shut down what he described as a “massive DDOS attack,” which prevented many users from joining the live audio session:

“Worst case, we will proceed with a smaller number of live listeners and post the conversation later,” Musk said. It was unclear if the disruption was caused by hackers or simply the high volume of users attempting to listen. Oh, yes, blame the hackers and can’t forget the deep state or the raging radical left. Ha.

Oh but wait, earlier in the day, Musk claimed that X had successfully tested the system with 8 million concurrent listeners. If you believe that.

After a 40-minute delay, Trump and Musk finally began their “conversation.” Trump recounted surviving an assassination attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, praising the Secret Service and local law enforcement for their response. Here-we-go …

The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including energy policy, climate change, nuclear threats, and immigration. Trump promised the “largest deportation in the history of this country” and accused Democrats of attempting a coup to remove President Joe Biden from the ballot. He criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and questioned the mental fitness of President Biden. Trump also commented that Jewish people voting for Democrats should have their “heads examined.”

Here is how Trump concluded the discussion, saying: “We can talk about tunnels and rockets and electric cars, so many things. And now you’re into the AI, and that’s going to be another beauty.” Throughout the interview, some listeners noted that Trump’s speech appeared slurred, sparking online discussions. In response, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung dismissed these observations, saying, “Must be your hearing.”

ICYMI, the interview marked Trump’s return to posting on X after nearly a year, following his August 24, 2023, post of his mugshot from the Georgia election subversion case. Candidate who’s a former POTUS has a mugshot and he posted it like a badge of honor. SMH.

On the day of the interview, Trump also shared a video on X reiterating campaign themes of combating the “deep state” and restoring American greatness, asking followers if they were better off now than during his presidency, and urging action to “Make America GREAT Again.” See the deep state. We told you. Anyway, we’re exhausted.

WATCH: ‘Gary’ Trailer For New Peacock Documentary Unpacking Gary Coleman’s Career, Legacy and Untimely Death

Screen Shot 2024 08 09 at 12.09.54 PM

Let’s get serious for a second, albeit artistically. NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock just released the official trailer for its upcoming documentary “Gary”, which unpacks the life and legacy of Gary Coleman, who you recall was the beloved child star of hit sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes”, and the tragic circumstances surrounding his untimely death at age 42.

The project is directed by Robin Dashwood and produced by RAW, “Gary” explores Coleman’s meteoric rise to fame as the breakout star of the hit TV show “Diff’rent Strokes” and the struggles he faced in the years that followed.

Get this, the premium documentary promises a comprehensive look at Coleman’s life, including his battles with depression and the controversies that emerged after his untimely death.

The official description reads like this:

Gary follows the extraordinary story of Gary Coleman’s rise to international fame as the child star of “Diff’rent Strokes”; his struggles with fame; and the controversy surrounding his tragic death at the age of 42. For the first time, viewers will get insight into Coleman’s private world through exclusive interviews with his fellow actors, industry insiders, and his estranged ex-wife and parents.

This is a feature documentary, spanning 90 minutes, featuring never-before-seen interviews with people close to Coleman, including his “Diff’rent Strokes” co-star Todd Bridges, former managers, and members of his estranged family. These interviews aim to provide a deeper understanding of the challenges Coleman faced, both in the spotlight and in his personal life. Sounds like it will delve into some good, dark and very real experiences surrounding Coleman.

“Gary” is executive produced by Louise Norman, Tom Sheahan, Steve Boettcher, and Mike Trinklein, and is set to premiere exclusively on Peacock on August 29.

Who was Gary Coleman? He became a household name in the late 1970s as Arnold Jackson, the wisecracking younger brother in “Diff’rent Strokes”. His signature phrase, “Whatchu talkin’ ’bout, Willis?” became iconic. However, despite his early success, Coleman’s life was marred by legal battles, financial difficulties, and health problems related to a congenital kidney disease, which stunted his growth and required frequent medical treatment. Deep all around.

Sadly, as an adult, Coleman struggled to find steady work in Hollywood and faced numerous personal challenges. He had a highly publicized legal battle with his parents over the mismanagement of his earnings. In 2010, Coleman’s life ended in controversy when he died following a fall at his home. His death was ruled accidental, but it fueled widespread speculation and debate. There goes the controversy around his death and we’re sure the documentary will go into that in detail.

Viewers can watch the trailer for “Gary” below and stream exclusively on Peacock on August 29.

High Profile Launch of Doodles Records Includes Records From Lil Wayne, Coi Leray and Lil Yachty

image

Doodles, are not just a popular crossbreed of dog, it’s also the name of a budding entertainment company that touts Pharrell Williams holding court as chief branding officer. And that company with the interesting choice in branding just announced the creation of Doodles Records is a collaboration with Sony’s Orchard. Kicking things off out the gate, the new label’s inaugural project is for the soundtrack for the upcoming short film “Dullsville and the Doodleverse.” Listen, goldendoodles, bernadoodles and even cavapoos, are all the rage these days, so they got something right with that name. Or maybe they mean when you’re doodling on a sketch board. Either way, pretty cool.

Get this to celebrate its high profile launch, Doodles Records will release a three-song EP for “Dullsville and the Doodleverse.” And they ain’t playing, as reported in Variety, the EP features tracks from notable artists: Coi Leray and Pharrell’s “Not in the Store” is set to drop in early August, Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty, and Kyle Richh’s “Can’t Hold Me Down” will follow in late August, and Swae Lee, Lil Yachty, and Pharrell’s “Doodleverse (Draw Me Closer)” is slated for release in September. Pretty sick lineup in you ask us.

“Music is and will continue to be a core pillar of Doodles, so we’re thrilled to announce the official formation of Doodles Records,” said Julian Holguin, CEO of Doodles. “Releasing music with some of the most legendary and relevant artists in the world on our first project is a dream come true and a massive source of pride. Moving forward, we will fuse music, animation, and technology to create groundbreaking content experiences that will empower artists and their communities.”

To keep the rollout refreshing, each release from Doodles Records will be accompanied by animated videos, creatively directed by Doodles founder Burnt Toast in collaboration with their in-house animation studio, Golden Wolf. The short film “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” will premiere in October. Music and animation promo to invigorate a short film release, is smart marketing if you ask us.

They’re not done, alongside the hot new label announcement, Doodles introduced DoodlesTV, a direct-to-community platform, another trending tech avenue, that provides users, fans and anyone who’s curious with early access to music releases, video premieres, and more. Early adopting fans can purchase a DoodlesTV season one all-access media pass next week, giving them access to view “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” before its official release. Dope moves all around.
