SOURCE SPORTS: WWE’s Big E Breaks Neck During Latest ‘Friday Night Smackdown’ Broadcast

WWE superstar Big E suffered a broken neck live on air during the latest episode of Friday Night Smackdown. Big E was teaming with Kofi Kingston against Sheamus and Ridge Holland when he took an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Holland, landing on his head.

After the match, fans expressed their concern for the former WWE champion on social media, with the wrestler then posting a video where he gave an update on his condition and confirmed he had suffered a broken neck.

“can move all of my digits,” he said while wiggling his fingers at the camera. “you see that that’s nice, that’s always a good thing. Strength feels fine.

“But unfortunately, right now, they tell me my neck is broken. So there’s that. But, once again, thank you, everybody, I’m going to be all right. I’l lbe good, don’t worry, go to sleep, don’t worry about old me. But, for real, thank you. And I appreciate all of you, for real.”

Big E has subsequently posted another update revealing that his C-1 and C-6 discs are fractured. Still, there is no damage to his spinal cord or ligaments, meaning no surgery is necessary, and he remains upbeat.

“As bad as a broken neck sounds, they don’t always require surgery,” says Sutterer. “Depending on where the fracture is… sometimes they can simply be treated by wearing a hard cervical collar, which we saw Big E already wearing.”

No timetable as to if or when Big E will return to the ring. WWWE’sbiggest show of the year, WrestleMania, is three weeks away. Big E’s involvement in that show seems to be unlikely.

SOURCE SPORTS: 25-Year-old Woman Sues Cowboys’ Owner Jerry Jones Over Being Her Biological Father

kv

A 25-year-old woman is suing Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, alleging that the billionaire paid her mother hundreds of thousands of dollars in 1996 to conceal that he was the girl’s father.

Nataly Keomoungkhoun of the Dallas Morning News reported Alexandra Davis filed a lawsuit, now temporarily sealed, that says Jones had a relationship with her mother, Cynthia Davis, in the 1990s, which led to her conception. She says Jones reached a deal to financially support Cynthia and Alexandra as long as they didn’t publicly identify that he was the latter’s father.

Davis’ lawsuit is intended to determine she is not legally bound by the previous agreement between Jones and her mother. She also wants a declaration from the court that the settlement agreement should be unenforceable under Texas law.

Davis was born on December 16, 1996. Per the report, genetic testing determined that the husband of Cynthia Davis was not Alexandra’s father.

SOURCE SPORTS: Spurs’ Gregg Popovich Ties Don Nelson for Most NBA Victories by a Head Coach

f

On Monday night, the San Antonio Spurs beat the Los Angeles Lakers 117-110. That win makes coach Greg Popovich one win away from becoming the NBA’s all-time winningest head coach. Popovich is currently tied with Don Nelson at 1,335 victories.

On Wednesday, Popovich can break the record with a win against the Toronto Raptors. Nelson previously told reporters, “I can’t wait” for Popovich to break the record. “I want him to have it.”

The significant part about getting this record for Popovich is that all 1,335 victories came with the Spurs. In 1996, Popovich, then serving as San Antonio’s general manager, fired Bob Hill and inserted himself as his head coach. That proved to be a great move looking back. The Spurs have since become one of the winningest teams in NBA history under Popovich’s watchful eye. He’s won five championships during his time with the team, reaching the NBA Finals six times.

Popovich may go down as the greatest coach in NBA history. One more victory will all but lockdown that debate.

SOURCE SPORTS: Aaron Rodgers Agrees to a 4 Year Extension To Remain the Packers’ Quarterback

aaron rodgers packers getty

That bad man Aaron Rodgers is staying put in Green Bay. Rodgers and the Packers have agreed to a four-year, $200 million, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. The $50 million salary makes Rodgers the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Rodgers posted on social media that while he will be back with the Packers, the reported terms of his deal are inaccurate.

In capturing MVP honors, Rodgers had a historic 2021 season, completing 68.9% of his passes for 4,115 yards with 37 touchdowns to just four interceptions for a 111.9 passer rating. He led the NFL in touchdown percentage (7.0), interception percentage (0.8), and passer rating.

Rodgers staying with the Packers means the team can now focus on getting more pieces around him to get them back to the Super Bowl. With Tom Brady retired and Russell Wilson now in Denver, Rodgers is not only the best quarterback in the NFC, but he is also currently the most secured one.

SOURCE SPORTS: Denver Broncos Land Russell Wilson From Seahawks in Blockbuster Trade

SeattleSeahawksFined$kforMishandlingRussellWilson'sPossibleConcussion

The Denver Broncos pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire Russell Wilson. The Broncos sent three players (Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, and Noah Fant), two first-rounders, two second-rounders, a fifth-rounder for Wilson, and a fourth-round pick.

The Broncos’ offense looks like this: Russell Wilson, Javonte Williams, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, and Albert Okwuegbunam. The AFC West just became a murderous road loaded with elite quarterback play when you add Wilson to the mix with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and David Carr.

Wilson will look to do what Peyton Manning did in Denver a few years ago, which wins a Super Bowl with the Broncos. This trade signals the end of Wilson and his time in Seattle.

Wilson has been with the Seahawks since they drafted him in the 3rd round in 2012, and he led them to a victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII just a few years later. Wilson and the Seahawks have been to the playoffs every year since he was drafted, except for just two seasons (2017 and 2021).

SOURCE SPORTS: Falcons’ Calvin Ridley Suspended a Year From Football for Placing Bets on Games

calvinridley

The NFL dropped the hammer on Atlanta Falcons’ Calvin Ridley by suspending him for one entire season for betting on NFL games.

According to the NFL, Ridley placed bets five days in late November 2021, when he was away from the club’s facility on the non-football illness list. The former first-round pick played in just five games in 2021 before leaving the club to focus on his “mental wellbeing.”

“There is nothing more fundamental to the NFL’s success — and to the reputation of everyone associated with our league — than upholding the integrity of the game,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter notifying Ridley of the suspension. “This is the responsibility of every player, coach, owner, game official, and anyone else employed in the league. Your actions put the integrity of the game at risk, threatened to damage public confidence in professional football, and potentially undermined the reputations of your fellow players throughout the NFL.

Following the news of his suspension, Ridley said on Twitter that he does not have a “gambling problem.”

The Falcons said in a press release that they are preparing for the 2022 season as if Ridley will not be with them. The earliest Ridley can apply for reinstatement is Feb. 15, 2023.

“We were first made aware of the league’s investigation on Feb. 9. We have cooperated fully with the investigation since receiving notice and support the league’s findings and actions,” the team said in a statement. “We are moving forward in the 2022 season with the decision that was made. With the decision that was made by the NFL, any further questions on the investigation should be directed to the league office.”

The NFL is sending a message to players and team members throughout the league that gambling in games is the number 1 cardinal sin.

Kanye West’s ‘Donda 2’ Ruled Ineligible for Billboard Charts

Kanye West

Despite the hype surrounding his latest album release, Billboard magazine has announced that Kanye West‘s Donda 2 will be ineligible for placement on the Billboard charts.

The controversy stems from the Ye’s decision to exclusively release Donda 2 on his own proprietary Stem Player device. The bundling of the player and the album is in violation of Billboard charts’ merchandise bundle policy, which disqualifies albums that come bundled with physical merchandise.

Billboard announced the bundling rule back in 2020, stating that selling merchandise along with a physical album or digital album download (often a free download) as a way to boost album sales numbers would skew sales numbers. The practice had been a point of controversy for the chart-ranking publication for many years. Critics of bundling had suggested that bundling put newer (and less wealthy) artists at a disadvantage because they could only offer an album, not merchandise.

West’s Stem player has been a successful venture for the artist. The player, which comes pre-loaded with a variety of West’s albums (depending on what year the player was purchased), has reportedly sold 39,500 units for a total of about $8.6 million.

As of March 7, all Stem player owners can reportedly download Donda 2 to their devices.

SOURCE SPORTS: NFL And NFLPA Agree to End All COVID-19 Testing and Protocols Effective Immediately

NFL Launches 'Inspire Change Initiative' to Enact Positive Change in Inner City Communities

The NFL is throwing the towel in when it comes to COVID-19 testing. The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to suspend all COVID-19 protocols and testing as of right now.

“Based on current encouraging trends regarding the prevalence and severity of COVID-19, the evolving guidance from the CDC, changes to state law and the counsel of our respective experts, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to suspend all aspects of the joint COVID-19 Protocols, effective immediately,” the memo reads.

The memo added that even given the suspension of the league’s protocols, “clubs are required to remain in compliance with state and local law.”

Individuals are still asked to monitor themselves for symptoms daily. According to the memo, anybody experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must report them to the club and test negative before entering the team facility. Any individual who tests positive must isolate for five days after their test.

By the time training camps and the regular season gets underway again, the NFL is looking at the pandemic as a thing of the past. There is no telling yet if other sports leagues will follow the NFL’s stance on COVID testing. As the positivity rate continues to go down, we may very well be heading toward endemic status.

SOURCE SPORTS: New York Giants Willing To Listen to Trade Offers for Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley Set to Return to Practice for the New York Giants

The New York Giants are in cap space hell. One way to get out of that situation could be trading away Saquon Barkley.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen indicated Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that trading the former No. 2 overall pick is not off the table, though that’s the case for most players on the Giants’ roster.

“We’re still working through that, but I’m open to anything. Like whether it’s trading player for player. I’ll listen to anybody,” Schoen told reporters. “I’m not going to say we’re open for business on our entire roster. But if anybody is going to call and they’re interested in any of our players, I’ll certainly listen.

“We’re in a situation where unfortunately we have to get under the salary cap and we’re not in very good salary cap health. I’m not going to say yes to every deal, but I’m definitely going to listen and be open to situations that are best for the New York Giants.”

Barkley is owed $7.2 million in guaranteed cash in 2022, the fifth and final year of his rookie deal if the Giants don’t see Barkley helping an already struggling offense in 2022, moving off of him while he still has some value might be best for the long term reboot of the franchise.

SOURCE SPORTS: Tyson Fury Hints Retirement After Next Title Defense

Tyson Fury

It appears it will be a grand closing for Tyson Fury after his next boxing match in April. On Tuesday, the WBC heavyweight champion told reporters that he intends to retire following his April 23 match against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.

During the press event, Fury said: “This is the final fight of my career, I’m retiring after this, $150m in the bank, healthy, young, I’m gonna buy a massive yacht abroad. I’m retiring, I’m out, this is my final fight, I’m done.”

If Furry successfully defended his championship against Whyte and retired afterward, he would leave on top of the heavyweight mountain. Fury shocked the world back in 2015 when he beat Wladimir Klitschko.

After taking time off for mental health issues, Fury began a fantastic trilogy with former WBC champ Deontay Wilder. After the first match ended in a draw, Fury would dominate the second and third matchups.

As one right now, Fury isn’t thinking past April 23. If he changes his mind, a unification title fight would be the next logical goal for Furry.
