Drea Kelly Explains Why She Kept R Kelly’s Last Name Despite Alleged Abuse

During a recent interview with Carlos King, Drea Kelly opened up about her allegedly abusive relationship with R Kelly. The two of them first married in 1996, and Drea filed for divorce roughly ten years later in 2006. According to her, the abuse she experienced as a child influenced her decision to stay with Kelly as long as she did. She claims her background initially brought her and her ex closer together. Eventually, however, this became a way for him to allegedly control her.

“The way I grew up was to not love myself, to not think I’m worthy and to feel that there’s no escape from this ’cause not only is it my grandfather, it’s my mother. Now, it’s my husband,” she alleged. “So, that’s why I’m in the place that I am today. F*** y’all with a capital F because you have no idea what it’s like to go from being abused to an abused 19-year-old with a man who has this much power and you’re being abused by him and you have nowhere to go and no money to even do it with.”

Drea Kelly Opens Up About Allegedly Abusive Relationship With R Kelly

Drea went on to call out those who have judged her for keeping Kelly’s name despite the alleged abuse. She fired back at claims that she didn’t “bring anything to the table” to earn the right to the name. She even slammed critics comparing her and Kelly’s dynamic to Ike and Tina Turner’s. “You don’t even know what my profession is,” she explained. “And at the end of the day, what do I bring to the table if I am the table?”

“I brought a whole womb. I birthed children, so for women to even say something like that is sad to me…and because you can’t clock what I do, because you haven’t done your research, you think it’s okay to go on the internet and say, ‘she don’t do nothing, Tina Turner did something,’” she continued. “The only difference between me and Tina Turner is she sang on the stage with Ike, I danced on one with Robert.”

Trina Believes She Deserves To Be In The Top 5 Female Rappers Conversation

Trina spoke on her legacy during a recent interview with Carlos King, arguing that she feels left out of the debate over the top five female rappers of all time. She explained that she’s influenced most of the artists she sees fans pick for their lists. “I feel like I know what I’ve done and I feel like even your top 5 has been at some point influenced by me,” she said. “I know, or probably even worked with or loved – even idolized. It’s probably somebody I really support and love in the industry.”

When The Neighborhood Talk shared the clip on Instagram, fans had mixed responses to Trina’s take. In the comments section, one user wrote: “No shade we gotta give Trina her flowers. She’s a staple in female rap that doesn’t get enough recognition.” Another countered: “I love Trina, but let’s be real, she is not in the top 5, she may not even be in the top 10 if we are being honest…” Later in the clip, she mentions how she was always nominated at the BET Awards, but rarely won anything.

She revealed that she hasn’t spoken to her in a number of years, but she’s happy for the success she’s achieved. “I’m proud, like, you’re deserving of this, like, we watched your first tour, it was great… and now it’s like phenomenal, and you’re just looking at the growth — you just got your son,” Trina said. “…I’m just happy for you, even if you over here and I’m over here, but I’m just happy for you. And I feel like everything that’s happening for her, she deserves.”

Tamar Braxton Apologizes To Jeremy “JR” Robinson For Laughing Off Shady Interview Jokes

It’s no secret that Tamar Braxton’s relationship with Jeremy “JR” Robinson is controversial, but according to him, she should be willing to defend him regardless. Recently, the songstress sat down for an interview with Carlos King, who didn’t shy away from throwing plenty of shade JR’s way. King mocked JR’s appearance, referring to him as “Colonel Sanders” multiple times. He even accused Braxton of trying to keep her engagement on the low by hiding her ring. She laughed off the jokes at the time, though his reaction to the debacle appears to have made her reconsider.

Shortly after the interview, JR took to social media to share his take on the jokes, making it clear that he didn’t appreciate the fact that nobody came to his defense. “Your shade creates uncertainty and your people thrive on stating what you never say,” he said in part. “I’m too graceful and that’s coming to an end.”

Tamar Braxton Says She’s “Embarrassed” By How She Made Her Fiancé Feel

Earlier today, Braxton responded with a lengthy post on her Instagram Story, in which she apologized for hurting JR’s feelings. “When you truly love someone, hurting the person that you love is far worse than being hurt BY the one you love,” she wrote. “I’m new to true love and loving myself. I’m so sorry that it’s you that has to feel the trial and error.

“I wish for the opportunity to give an apology and be forgiven in it ALL. In relationships, we take being forgiven for granted. It’s a blessing to be able to say I’m sorry and see another day in the war of love in this together. No matter how much I feel like I was right…you felt wronged. And I gotta respect that,” she also added. “I’m not embarrassed for being open about how I feel… I’m embarrassed of how I made you feel, I’m sorry.” What do you think of Tamar Braxton apologizing to JR for her recent interview with Carlos King?
