Boosie Badazz Reveals His Top 5 Rappers Of All Time

Boosie Badazz listed his five favorite rappers of all time during a recent interview with Bryant McFadden ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. In doing so, he named himself, 2Pac, DMX, Juvenile, and Scarface. Of the latter, he argued that Scarface is underrated in the history of hip-hop.

“Me, 2Pac, DMX, I always say Juvenile because he raised me. I say the people who raised me,” Boosie said, before adding that he knows every word to the 400 Degreez album. “I got a few more greats. Scarface. He’s so underrated.” He also remarked that he wants to get on NPR’s Tiny Desk.

When TheHipHopWolf shared the interview on Instagram, fans had plenty of support for Boosie’s takes. “Scarface is unquestionably the greatest rapper of all time. Argue with your mother,” one fan commented. Another added: “400 degrees is a zero skip album and I still bump that.” Other users complained about the nature of greatest of all-time lists in general. One wrote: “Conversation of Greatest all time needs to stop. Instead lets converse about who is YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE,” while another remarked: “Watch how many people argue with ‘His’ Top 5 like they’re not welcome to have their own Top 5.” Check out his full explanation of the top five picks below.

Boosie’s far from the first rapper to name their top five artists in the genre. Just last month, Black Thought listed his picks for an interview with HipHopDX. He named Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Chuck D, and LL COOL J. Be on the lookout for further updates on Boosie Badazz on HotNewHipHop.

Lil Wayne Updates His Top Five Rappers List

Lil Wayne is easily one of the best rappers of all time. He has been in the game since he was a teenager, and over the years, we have seen his growth play out. Overall, he is revered by his peers and he is considered to be a massive influence. Moreover, he has brought us artists like Nicki Minaj and Drake, which is a massive accomplishment. If you were to ask most rappers today, they would tell you that Wayne is in their top five. This is certainly a respectable take, and if you said he was your number one, no one would bat an eye.

Now, Lil Wayne is being asked to name his personal top five rappers. He has done so in the past, according to XXL. Back in 2018, he said his top five was Cam’ron, UGK, 8 Ball & MJG, Missy Elliott, and Jay-Z. This is certainly a great list that showcases a wide range of tastes. However, as it turns out, Wayne has changed his top five. For the most part, many of the entries here are the same. Although, it appears as though Cam’ron, as well as 8 Ball & MJG have been taken off of the list.

As he proclaimed in a new piece for Billboard, his top five is Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Goodie Mob, The Notorious B.I.G., and UGK. That said, Biggie and Goodie Mob are the fresh additions to the list. No matter what, we’re sure Wayne still has lots of love for Cam’ron and 8 Ball & MJG. When you look at a list like this, you have to appreciate it as it showcases the influences that Wayne has lived by. Furthermore, it is always nice to see the legends be remembered by another legend.

Lil Wayne Shares His Top Five Rappers, Including Biggie, Jay-Z, And Some Surprise Picks

We love when rappers share their picks for the top five rappers. It gives us insights into their influences and creative processes. It often vindicates some of our most deeply held beliefs about the culture and genre. It puts newer or younger fans (sometimes older) onto a broader range of artists to check out. And, of course, it gives us an endless well of fuel for our most cherished Twitter debate, ensuring that we’ll have enough fat to chew on until the sun burns out.

The latest rapper to contribute to the long-running tradition is Lil Wayne, whose list is quite a doozy, containing both the expected picks and some left-field surprises that actually make sense when you consider his own unique approach to the art of rap. Wayne gave his answer in a special edition of What’s Wright? With Nick Wright, a podcast version of the Fox Sports personality’s popular show.

Almost as well known for his affinity for hip-hop as Wayne is for his sports referencing raps, Wright offers his own list (a pretty humdrum collection including the usual picks: Jay-Z, Tupac, Wayne himself, Kanye West, and T.I.), which Wayne says he respects. Then Wayne starts off his own list with a pick that far too few people include for my taste, Missy Elliott. Vindication!

Missy is a pick that makes perfect sense for Wayne — a quirky writer and performer who outright avoids convention and whose influence resonates throughout the industry, even if she rarely gets credit for it. Good one on Wayne for including her. Of course, Jay-Z enters his list (he’s repeatedly said that the Brooklyn rapper is his favorite MC ever). He also credits Biggie and Gucci Mane — another interesting pick, although not wholly unexpected from a Southerner like Wayne. Guwop’s influence throughout the bottom half of the States is undeniable and inextricable. His last pick is pretty mind-blowing though.

He cheats a little by picking a group, but rather than a well-worn, oft-tapped collective like Wu-Tang Clan, Wayne once again shows his Southern roots by choosing Atlanta mainstays Goodie Mob, a four-man band that includes Big Gipp, CeeLo Green, Khujo, and T-Mo. Their debut album, Soul Food,
is considered a classic and as part of the Dungeon Family, they worked extensively with Outkast and Organized Noise, two of the most pivotal groups in Southern rap.

Not a bad list, all things considered. And like I said before, pretty telling when you compare Wayne’s influences to his output. It’s easy to see why he goes against the grain so much and the results so often turn out so well.
