Pushing the boundaries of hip-hop once again, style icon and genre-defying artist .idk. returns with his latest album, BRAVADO + INTiMO. Following his acclaimed 2023 release, F65, which The Guardian praised as “sumptuous” and “jazz-inflected,” this 12-track project reveals yet another facet of his artistry, delivering a raw, intimate experience that merges melody, rhythm, and introspection across a tight 32-minute runtime.

.idk. incorporates flashes of melody and explores varying tempos and flows in BRAVADO + INTiMO, leaning into pockets of sound that emphasize his range and lyrical depth. His unique style captures listeners from the first track, blending heartfelt verses with sharp bars in a sonic space he uniquely owns. The album includes collaborations with major names in hip-hop: “TiFFANY,” featuring Gunna, “DENiM,” praised by HYPEBEAST and featuring Joey Bada$$, “SUPERNOVA” with TheARTI$T, and “CHECK!” accompanied by a sleek, monochromatic video.

Reflecting on his creative approach, .idk. explained, “My goal with this album was to simplify everything. With B.i., I just wanted to sing over beats and melodies that artists like MF DOOM would typically rap over, only rapping when it felt natural.” Honoring his past collaborations with the late MF DOOM, .idk. balances singing and rapping effortlessly, capturing a seamless fusion of vocal agility and rhythmic precision.

.idk. led the project’s production and creative direction, aiming to encapsulate a unique language within modern hip-hop. BRAVADO + INTiMO presents a fresh perspective on melodic rap while staying true to the genre’s roots, bridging the gap between classic hip-hop influences and contemporary innovation.

IDK Leaves Off “Bravado + Intimo” Featuring Joey Bada$$, Gunna, & More

Maryland multi-talent IDK has been a Swiss Army knife for years, and it’s very apparent once again on his latest effort, BRAVADO + INTiMO. The idea behind this body of work is to show off his mixture of bold and demonstrative side, as well as his more intimate and personal persona. This is presented both in the title of the project and of the tracks. Some have “(B)’s” or “(i)’s” next to them, which indicates the type of the vibe and tone you will hear on said record. It’s split pretty much down the middle, and in a way, this is sort of double disc album. Leading up to its release, IDK put out four singles, three of which boasted features.

“DENiM” with Joey Bada$$, “TiFFANY” featuring Gunna, and the TheARTI$t-assisted “SUPERNOVA” were those cuts. Despite clean and accessible production that sounds pleasant to the ears, the performances themselves aren’t too memorable. He’s done more daring and replay-able things on projects like Simple. and F65, for example. The duality aspect is there, but the beats carry the experience for us at least. Overall, it may be a little to barebones on the lyrical front. IDK did say though, “My goal with this album was to simplify everything. With B.i., I just wanted to sing over beats that artists like MF DOOM would normally rap over and only rap when it felt the most natural.” We can admire his dedication to stick to an idea, but we feel he’s at his best when he takes more risks. Still, give BRAVADO + INTiMO a try and see what you think of it.

IDK Is Married To The Money In His Booty-Filled ‘Check!’ Video

DMV rapper IDK has begun the rollout for his new album, Bravado + Intimo, which drops later this week via his independent imprint. Going in a slightly different direction than his last release, F65, the new album will only contain 12 tracks (as opposed to F65‘s 22 tracks), including the newly released single, “Check.”

IDK also takes a new tack in the video for “Check,” stripping things down, literally and figuratively. The Maryland MC performs the boastful new song in various locations around Los Angeles while accompanied by a young woman who twerks next to him in a skimpy one-piece swimsuit and high heels. The video is shot in provocative black-and-white that slowly becomes more saturated until IDK and his companion are captured in vivid color, doing their thing under a blue sky (it never rains in Southern California, they say).

Bravado + Intimo will also include the previously released tracks “Tiffany” with Gunna, “Denim” with Joey Badass, “Kickin,” and “Supernova,” which he’s released with a slew of varied “take” videos, including one-take performances and visualizers.

You can check out the video for “Check” — provided you don’t work in an office with an open floor plan — above.
