Big Boi On OutKast Being Named The Greatest Rap Group Of All Time: “I’ll Take It”

During a recent interview, Big Boi shared his thoughts on Billboard naming OutKast the best rap group of all time. The outlet dropped their ranking at the end of June, putting the duo ahead of fan-favorites like Wu-Tang Clan, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, and more. The list sparked a bit of a debate, with some social media users feeling as though they shouldn’t be considered a “group” because there are only two members. Regardless, the duo has managed to make countless invaluable contributions to the world of hip hop since their ’90s debut.

In a clip of the interview, Elliott Wilson asks Big Boi whether or not the opinions and rankings even mean anything to him anymore. “It just depends who you ask,” he replies, “I’ll take it.” He continues, insisting that it’s subjective. “Everybody’s got an opinion and it just depends on the person, really,” he says. “They don’t do that on the other side,” Big Boi adds, “like, [who’s] the best, Nirvana or Led Zeppelin.” He continues, noting how hip hop in particular tends to put an emphasis on competition among artists. “Go make some jams and shut the f*ck up,” he says.

Big Boi Says “Go Make Some Jams And Shut The F*ck Up”

Though Big Boi appears to be relatively unfazed about his group’s ranking, the clip managed to reignite the debate on who the greatest rap group of all time is. As expected, Wu-Tang Clan super fans made their voices heard. A good amount of commenters, however, appear to agree with the sentiment that artists shouldn’t be pit against one another. “We’re all great in our own likeness,” one user notes.

Though fans would love the opportunity to catch OutKast live, it looks like it won’t be happening any time soon. Sleepy Brown told TMZ in June that for the time being, Andre 3000 is only focusing on his own projects. “[Andre 3000] is on a-whole-nother journey and he’s, you know, doing something. But me and Big [Boi] are still doing tours and stuff like that. Don’t hold your breath for no OutKast reunion. Don’t do it to yourself. It’s not gon’ happen, folks.

Offset Thought Migos Should Be Higher On Billboard’s Rap Group Rankings

Offset has been making waves for a number of things he said in a new interview on Way Up with Angela Yee. He spoke extensively about his relationship with Cardi B in the wake of their new song “JEALOUSY.” He spoke about the pair’s personal life in a way that fans weren’t anticipating. The NSFW confessions left fans divided about what is important in a relationship. He also discussed his past accusations of cheating on Cardi. He blamed their lack of communication on him being “young and on drugs,” and assured everyone he’s grown a lot since then.

Another topic Offset discussed on the show is Billboard‘s ranking of the all-time best rap groups. While he had some critiques for the list he led off with one thing he agreed with, the top spot. Both he and Billboard believe that Atlanta legends Outkast, made up of Andre 3000 and Big Boi, are the greatest rap group of all time. That’s no surprise given that Offset himself is from Atlanta and has frequently cited the duo as an influence. Where he took issue with the list was the tanking of his own group, Migos. “I just feel like we could’ve got top five” he explains before going into some more details about why he thinks so.

Offset Feels Migos Are Underrated

Fans in the comments debated Offset’s claim and whether or not he was right. “The migos is not even top 10. What is this list based on ? Record sales because we cannot be talking lyrical skills and take the migos seriously,” reads one comment. “I’m definitely more of UGK / three 6 typa guy .. but he def has a point ..when migos hit the scene it felt/ sounded like almost 95% rappers started to emulate their flow / style,” concludes another comment.

Billboard dropped their list of the best rap groups of all time back in June and it immediately sparked massive debate. Clearly, even many of the artists themselves have their own thoughts on what the rankings should be. What do you think of Offset’s claims that Migos were underrated on Billboard’s all-time rap groups ranking? Let us know in the comment section below.

Gunna Scores Second Top 5 Hit Of His Career

While Gunna’s new album a Gift & a Curse didn’t make quite the initial impact that some were expecting, the project has proven it has legs. That mostly comes in the form of “fukumean” which debuted in the top 20 the week after the album came out. The song has stuck around, first getting into the top 10 and then weathering the storm of new releases from artists like Latto, Taylor Swift, and Olivia Rodrigo to hit a new peak on the Hot 100 this week.

Earlier this month, “fukumean” became Gunna’s fourth top 10 hit on the Hot 100. His first came alongside Lil Baby with the track “Drip Too Hard.” That song was a massive smash hit that went on to be certified 9x platinum. He next reached the top 10 in 2020 with the Internet Money posse cut “Lemonade.” The song also featured Don Toliver and Nav and peaked at #6 on the way to eventually being certified 4x platinum. Then his third top 10 hit came early last year with “Pushin P” alongside Young Thug and Future.

Gunna’s Impressive Chart History

But with “fukumean” Gunna didn’t just score yet another top 10 hit, but he tied his all-time high on the charts. The song’s new peak of number 4 matches the highest that “Drip Too Hard” ever reached on the charts. Fans in the comments of a post about the song congratulated the rapper. “The apology to Gunna needs to be just as loud as the disrespect!!👏 Talent outshines hatredb,” says one of the top comments on the post. “gunna washing baby ina versus it ain’t up for debate,” says another comparing him to his former collaborator Lil Baby.

The song reached a new peak during a completely unprecedented time for the Hot 100. Jason Aldean, Morgan Wallen, and Luke Combs represent the top 3 spots on the charts ahead of Gunna. It’s the first time in the entire history of the Hot 100 that all three of the top spots have been occupied by country songs. What do you think of “fukumean” reaching a new peak on the Hot 100 this week? Let us know in the comment section below.

Travis Scott Points To Utopia, Texas In New Billboard

Travis Scott has a lot of fans waiting around with bated breath for his new album, Utopia. Overall, this could very well be the biggest album of the entire year. However, no one knows when the album is actually going to be released. Some thought we would get the album this Friday. Although, with Travis set to perform in Egypt on July 28th, people are circling next week on their calendars. Needless to say, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding this album, and no one knows what to make of it.

If you have been paying attention to the rollout, you know that there have been quite a few billboards. The first two billboards contained a clock that was pointed to 7:21. Moreover, the second billboard had a lock combination to a briefcase with the same exact numbers. Now, however, a third billboard has surfaced, and it contains an interesting set of coordinates. If you were type them into google, you would be pointed towards a small town in Texas called Utopia.

Travis Scott With Another Teaser

Of course, this is a very appropriate town to promote the album. Texas is Travis Scott’s home state. Although he is from Houston, you cannot discount his ties to the entire state. Whether or not Travis has plans to visit Utopia, remains to be seen. However, if one thing is for certain, it is that he wants to continue teasing the album. At this point, all fans can do is really just guess. Hopefully, we get some concrete details sooner rather than later.

For now, there isn’t a single song that has been confirmed for the project. We don’t even know who the features are going to be. The only thing we can sort of guess is that “Lost Forever” with Westside Gunn will be on the album. Travis Scott has performed the song at various shows as of late. Moreover, Westside Gunn was in Egypt this past week, which led to more speculation. Once again, nothing is confirmed and the fans are beginning to get restless. Let us know your thoughts on this rollout, down below.

SZA, Taylor Swift, And Morgan Wallen Show Out On Billboard Mid-Year Report

Earlier today, Billboard released a massive sweeping mid-year report detailing which songs and albums have been the most popular in the first half of 2023. While there are a few surprises here and there, most of the big names you’d expect made the list. Country star Morgan Wallen proved absolutely dominant with both the first and fourth highest selling albums of the year. His newly released One Thing At A Time was particularly dominant. The album sold over a million more copies than anything else this year. He also scored the top streaming song of the year with his mega-hit “Last Night” which has spent 13 weeks at number 1 on the Hot 100.

Another big performed as expected was Taylor Swift. She clocked in on the albums chart with the third and tenth highest selling albums of the year so far. Her album Midnights from last year topped the charts in terms of pure album sales. The album’s single Anti-Hero also turned up on both the On-Demand Streaming and Top Radio Songs lists. The other big star of the show was SZA, whose long-awaited album SOS was the second highest selling record of the year so far. She also placed the albums smash hit single “Kill Bill” on both the On-Demand Streaming and Top Radio Songs list.

Billboard’s 2023 Mid-Year Report

In a year where much has been made about the lack of major hit songs and albums in rap music, the genre wasn’t completely under-represented. Two rap albums turned up in the Top 10 Best Selling albums, though they are both from last year. Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains slotted in at number five while Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss came in at number 7.

While recently released hit albums like Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape and Taylor Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) don’t appear on the report, it’s only because they’re too new. Pink Tape became the first rap album to hit number one all year earlier this week and Speak Now just racked up the highest selling week of any album so far this year in just 4 days. What do you think of the Billboard Mid-Year Report for 2023? Let us know in the comment section below.

Lil Uzi Vert Debuts 18 “Pink Tape” Songs On The Hot 100

As the new editions of the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 roll in this week, it’s been nothing but good news for Lil Uzi Vert. The rapper released their often teased and highly-anticipated new album Pink Tape last week and now that the official numbers are in it’s a certified smash. The album itself turned out 167k in equivalent units for its week one sales. Not only does that make it one of the best-selling albums of the year, but it laps the field as far as hip-hop is concerned. The album easily cleared the previous best first week for a rap album this year, Lil Durk’s Almost Healed. Pink Tape also became the first rap album to debut at #1, or even reach #1 at any point so far in 2023.

Lil Uzi Vert’s numbers on the Hot 100 are just as impressive. Alongside “Just Wanna Rock” which has been stable on the charts since its release last year, Uzi debuted 18 of the other 22 songs from Pink Tape. Among the list of songs that made the cut are “Endless Fashion” with Nicki Minaj which slotted in at 20. “Aye” with Travis Scott earned the number #31 spot, while “Patience” with Don Toliver clocked in at #70. The highest debut of all the songs was the opener “Flooded The Face.” The first track on the album landed at #11 in its first week, surpassing the best debuts from Young Thug and Gunna’s recent projects.

Lil Uzi Vert Impresses On The Charts

Lil Uzi Vert has stayed pretty busy despite dropping their new album. Shortly after they announced a tour happening later this year in support of the project. Following that they teased that a second album LUV Is Rage 3 which they now claim could come out in a few months.

Despite Uzi’s success, no rap song has managed to hit #1 on the Hot 100 in 2023. Pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s new single “Vampire” just took the top spot from country superstar Morgan Wallen whose song “Last Night” had topped the chart for over 3 months. There are still songs from both Lil Durk and Gunna in the top 10 of this week’s Hot 100. What do you think of Lil Uzi Vert’s first-week numbers? Let us know in the comment section below.

Kanye West’s Academy Didn’t Have Windows As Rapper “Did Not Like Glass”

Kanye West has been dealing with quite a bit of legal drama in 2023. On top of an ongoing lawsuit related to a space rented for his Yeezy GAP collab, he’s also dealing with lawsuits related to his Donda Academy. While teachers that were fired have already filed legal action alleging racist practices, another suit has emerged. According to Billboard, a new lawsuit filed today features even more damning allegations. A former teacher claims that he was fired for raising concerns about inconsistent pay and health and safety issues.

The details are of the suit are exceedingly strange. “In the middle of the main classroom, a skylight was left without glass inevitably allowing rain to fall directly inside, where water would soak into the floor, which would lead to a moldy smell for the next few days.” While there is an explanation provided for the actions it arguably causes even more questions. “The skylight was intentionally without glass because WEST expressed that he did not like glass.” On top of these issues, the school reportedly had faulty wiring that once sparked an electrical fire. It reportedly had septic tank issues that would cause bad smells.

Kanye West’s School Had No Glass

Kanye West’s recent troubles have largely unfolded in the public eye. So much in fact the Sam Levinson and The Weeknd’s hit show The Idol took shots at him in a recent episode. Those shots were in relation to West’s antisemitic comments last year. In a recently released documentary about the rapper West reportedly claimed that Jewish people were “holding him back.”

Kanye West has asked judges in both his ongoing cases to throw the lawsuits out. He refutes the claims made about Donda Academy and claims that GAP is responsible for the alterations caused to the Yeezy GAP space. West has kept an exceedingly low profile following everything that happened last year. Much of the news surrounding West these days relate to his ongoing lawsuits. What do you think of the new details emerging from Kanye West’s Donda Academy? Let us know in the comment section below.

Nicki Minaj Joins Drake & Lil Wayne As Rappers With The Most Top 10 Hits On Billboard

When Lil Wayne launched Young Money Entertainment in 2005 as an imprint of Cash Money, he probably knew he’d be successful. However, it was probably hard to predict the dominant and staggeringly influential status that the label would hold just a couple of years down the road. Moreover, through some of its first big releases, it gave us two of the biggest stars in hip-hop of the 2010s, beyond, and of all time: Drake and Nicki Minaj, and Weezy himself obviously fits that list, too. Chart history proves this even more, as now that the Trinidadian rapper has 23 Top 10 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the three rappers have the most Top 10 hits in the entire genre.

Given that each artist is still releasing hype material that makes huge waves, it’s unlikely that this streak will end anytime soon. For example, Nicki Minaj has an new album on the way this year, Pink Friday 2, and Lil Wayne is hard at work on Tha Carter VI. Meanwhile, Drake recently announced his new album For All The Dogs, which fans expect to release at some point this year as well. With this in mind, it will be very hard for rappers in the game to beat these metrics, even if Eminem and Jay-Z are tied for the fourth rapper with the most Hot 100 Top 10 songs at 22 each, just one less than Nicki.

Nicki Minaj, Drake & Lil Wayne On The Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 Podium

Furthermore, it’s likely that the 40-year-old MC achieved this off the strength of some of her recent singles. The last one to come out and hit big on the charts was the Ice Spice collab “Barbie World” for the doll-named film, which releases later in July. Of course, with a November drop on the cards, plenty of tracks will probably edge their way to the Top 10 of the chart, as well. In fact, Nicki Minaj might even pass Lil Wayne soon, who has 25 Top 10 entries.

As far as Drake, though, he can snooze on the throne for years and he would still be tough to beat. The Canadian superstar has a whopping 68 Top 10 entries on the Billboard Hot 100. Maybe they should make another Young Money collab project and make a rising tide lift all boats. Regardless, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Lil Wayne.

Coi Leray Only Sells 10k Copies In Her Album’s First Week

Last week Coi Leray released her sophomore album COI. The album featured David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Lola Brooke, and more. COI followed her debut studio album Trendsetter which came out last year and featured the hit song “Blick Blick” with Nicki Minaj. COI was propelled by its lead single “Players” which has been a stable hit since late 2022. The album has taken a beating from music critics who called out its allegedly lazy sampling throughout. Now it seems like fans agree as the album only sold 10k units in its first week.

Last year, Trendsetter sold 11.5k units in its first week and debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200. Now, despite “Players” being her biggest hit so far Coi Leray has taken a step back. COI sold just 10k units in its first tracking week which was only good enough for number 102 on the Billboard 200. Many fans were quick to blame Leray’s label for their lack of promotion more than the album itself. Some on Twitter pointed out opportunities like the recent BET Awards where they could have done more to promote COI.

Coi Leray’s Dissppointing Debut

The sales are surprisingly low given how much momentum Coi Leray seemed to have going into the album. On top of scoring her biggest hit ever, she’s also been a part of another hit song this year. Last year David Guetta returned with one of the biggest hits of 2022 “I’m Good.” This year he turned around and teamed up with Coi Leray and Anne-Marie on the song “Baby Don’t Hurt Me.”

Coi’s low numbers had many fans comparing her to Chloe Bailey. The Chloe x Halle singer released her debut solo album earlier this year. Despite her popularity and success with her sister, her solo album fell far short of expectations. In Pieces also only sold 10k in its first week and debuted at number 110. What do you think of Coi Leray’s first-week streaming numbers? Let us know in the comment section below.
