Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” Album Has Been On The Billboard For 600 Weeks

There are a lot of albums you can debate as the greatest of all time. However, to pick one is near impossible. Especially, with everyone having different tastes, there will never be a consensus best LP across the music landscape. However, many throughout the world have enjoyed this album for decades and decades. In fact, this project has been out since 1982 and it is still being listened to even now. We are referencing the King of Pop, Michael Jackson’s sixth album, Thriller. The tape will officially turn 40 years old on November 30. It is a timeless classic, one that we can truly say has stood the test of time.

According to AllHipHop, Thriller debuted at number one and astoundingly remained at the top for 37 weeks. The 1980’s classic is now the 10th project to accomplish this feat as well. Other artists who have done this include Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Journey, Metallica, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Eminem, Bruno Mars, Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana. The crazy stats are not finished yet, though.

Michael Jackson Continues To Dominate

Michael’s magnum opus is in second place for weeks spent at the top of the throne. The only other LP to be there longer was West Side Story‘s soundtrack (1961). That was there for 54 weeks, but honestly, there is no shame in that. When you boast tracks such as “Thriller,” “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and “P.Y.T.,” it is hard to not be proud of your album.

Drake And Taylor Swift Both Hold The Record For The Most BBMAs

Drake and Taylor Swift are two of the most dominant artists for the generation, maybe even of all time. Their albums, singles, and tours are almost always a global success. All we need to do is go back to when both of them dropped their most recent records. The first of the two to drop this year was Taylor with her redux of her 2010 record, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). Just a couple of months later, she redid one of her most popular LPs, 1989, as well. It has been out for less than a month, and three songs are in the top five on her Spotify account.

Then, we shift our focus over to The Boy. It seems every record is highly anticipated. That was the case with For All The Dogs. The same thing applies to the Canadian rapper’s top five. “IDGAF” with Yeat, “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole,” and “Rich Baby Daddy” alongside SZA and Sexyy Red, are hot right now. In fact, the first two tracks were topping the Billboard Hot 100, nabbing Cole’s first number one song.

Now, both megastars can revel in more awards and records. The Billboard Music Awards took place last night (November 19) and Taylor made more history. After winning 10 out of her 20 nominations, she is now in lockstep with Drake. Both are now at a whopping 39 awards. Taylor took the time to thank her Swifties for the honors. According to Billboard, here is some of her speech. “I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have you in my corner and caring about the music that I make. So thank you — thank you, thank you, thank you 10 million times — for this.”

Drake is one of the biggest artists of all time. Although some people find his newest material to be underwhelming, there are plenty of people out there who love everything he does. Overall, he is a massive artist, and that will never change. In fact, his latest release, For All The Dogs, is yet another example of just how massive of an artist he is. He just sold 400K units in his first week and he has the number one album in the world. Moreover, he is going to have the biggest song in the world, and we are still waiting to see which track it will be.

With this new album release, much has been made about how Drake is about to tie Michael Jackson for the most number one records ever. Of course, this is a massive record. Jackson was the “King of Pop,” and some felt like his record could never be broken. However, it is now going to eventually be beaten by Canada’s greatest export. With the record now within Drake’s grasp, he is now taking to Instagram, where he can be seen mimicking one of Michael Jackson’s most iconic looks.

Overall, it is pretty easy to make the leap that he is trying to mimic Michael. Drizzy is someone who is well aware of his records. After all, he got a tattoo of himself on Abby Road with the Beatles after he surpassed them. Consequently, it should not be surprising to see him do this.
