Joe Budden Claims Numerous Artists Are Making Albums With AI

Joe Budden is someone who has always been open and honest about his feelings as it pertains to the music industry. Overall, if there is something that perturbs him, he is going to speak on it. Although his harsh album reviews have made him some enemies over the years, his fans are the ones who matter. They are always eager and willing to hear what he has to say. One area that Joe is particularly opinionated about is artificial intelligence. After all, AI is something that has truly exploded in 2023.

While on the Need To Know podcast, Budden got to speak at length about artificial intelligence and its potential impact on the music landscape. Budden has always been a staunch advocate for the real creatives out there. He is not a fan of those who simply make stuff for commercial success. Overall, he is someone who appreciates true artistry. However, AI has the potential to completely remove that from the music world entirely. Below, he even notes how some artists are using it to construct whole albums.

Joe Budden Issues A Warning

Although Joe did not give proof or any names, he did say that he can tell the difference between an album made by a human soul and one that is governed by AI. Perhaps in the future, regular music listeners will begin telling the difference as well. For now, however, most mainstream artists have not let on to the alleged use of AI. While some have partnered with AI programs for one-off songs, whole albums have been a bit of a taboo. Only time will tell whether or not that completely changes.

Artificial intelligence will continue to be a hot topic of debate in the music world. Having said that, let us know what you think of AI, in the comments section below. Are you okay with its usage, or do you think it needs to go away? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on your favorite artists and all of their upcoming releases.

What Is Spotify’s AI Playlists Feature?

Over the last few weeks, streaming giant Spotify has been a trending topic, but it hasn’t all been positive chatter; The company’s latest round of layoffs was accompanied by news of artists like Snoop Dogg and “Weird” Al calling them out over its payout rates

However, users flooding their social media timelines with the Wrapped results have somewhat helped offset the negative remarks. The platform is focusing on user excitement by rolling out yet another feature: AI playlists.

What is Spotify’s AI playlist feature?

Similar to the AI DJ function, which rolled out in February, the AI playlist feature allows users to generate a collection of songs using prompts.

Spotify has several curated playlists based on genre, artists, decade, release date, charting history, and even modes. However, the AI playlist feature allows users to think far beyond what already exists. According to TechCrunch, users must select the AI chatbot to get started to access the add-on. Users can let their imagination fly once the box takes over the screen. Prompt ideas mentioned presented by the outlet as an example were “get focused at work with instrumental electronica,” “fill in the silence with background café music,” “get pumped up with fun, upbeat, and positive songs,” and “explore a niche genre like Witch House.”

@robdad_

Since when did they have this update on spotify. Now they got chatGPT making our playlists… also wtf is Which House Exploration😭😭 #spotify #update #ai

The feature has not yet gotten a wide release, and it’s not clear when (or if) it will. A spokesperson told TechCrunch, “We routinely conduct a number of tests. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader experience and others serve only as an important learning. We don’t have anything further to share at this time.”

Ice-T Says He Could “Act Forever” With A.I. Technology

Ice-T says that he “could potentially act forever” with the use of artificial intelligence. He discussed his stance on the technology being used to create a future version of himself while hosting a book launch for Mark Minevich’s Our Planet Powered By AI.

“I wouldn’t care. I think to say ‘no’ would be selfish. A future AI version of me would be better than me,” Ice-T said before joking, “I’d worry if it could f*ck.” From there, he explained that the technology is inevitable. “I believe it’s coming and we need to just address it as it comes,” he said. “There is nothing you can do. One of my favorite quotes from [famed producer] Quincy Jones is, ‘if you want to lose a fight, fight the future.’ If you can’t beat them, join them. I am trying to read as much [as I can] to be involved as it grows.”

He added: “I think people are freaking because they think they are going to lose their jobs — but people can lose their jobs at any time. I don’t think people will lose jobs, they will have different jobs, we will become more computer-ish type people. When you imagine the future, you don’t imagine manual tasks, you imagine future sh*t.”

Not everyone has been so understanding of A.I. Ice Cube once labeled it “demonic” during a back and forth on Twitter. “Samples are approved or denied by the song owners,” Ice Cube said back in May. “Totally different than taking a dead artist and making a new song they never approved and saying things they may not agree with. That’s evil and demonic to me.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Ice-T and A.I. technology on HotNewHipHop.

What Is Nicki Minaj’s Gag City?

Nicki Minaj is less than one day away from finally dropping Pink Friday 2, her first full-length album since 2018’s Queen. On Wednesday night, December 6, Minaj amped up the already-fervent anticipation by using her “Barb Alert System” to warn the Barbz that they are quickly “approaching Gag City.”

“As we begin to prepare for landing, please make sure your tray tables are put back up & your seat belts are tightly fastened,” Minaj wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) earlier in the day. “The captain has activated the ‘no bathroom’ sign. If you look out the window, you’ll begin to see the beauty…clear waters, pink dolphins…#GagCity #PF2.”

Well, that sounds lovely. Wait, PINK DOLPHINS?! What (and where) in the world is Gag City?

According to various outlets — such as Know Your Meme, Reddit, and The Mirror — Barbz created Gag City using AI based on the Pink Friday 2 cover art Minaj shared in early September. On the first of two album covers, Minaj appears angelic while standing on what could be described as a subway platform floating above pink clouds. Everything is pink, except for Minaj’s white outfit.

“Her fans, lovingly called the Barbz, decided that the city below her on the album cover was named Gag City, a play on the word ‘gagged,’ which can be used to describe something, usually a celebrity, as amazing or stunning,” The Mirror explained. “After Gag City was named, fans were left wondering what the city could possibly look like, so they turned to AI.”

This morning, December 7, Power 105. 1 posted that it “is the official radio station of #GAGCity” alongside an AI-generated, pink-tinged photo of a boombox turned to the station. Republic Records posted the Statue Of Liberty wearing a pink wig. All over the internet, people continue to post their visions for Gag City ahead of Pink Friday 2‘s arrival at midnight ET (December 8), which is also Minaj’s birthday. See some below.

Sexyy Red AI Stimulus Ad Garners Legal Action From Rap Diva & Funny Replies From Fans

Sexyy Red may be the Hood Hottest Princess, but that doesn’t mean she’s afraid of some legal drama. After fans made the expecting mother aware of fake stimulus program advertisements using artificially generated videos and audio of her voice, the “Pound Town” hitmaker is ready to get her lawyer working on the case. Amid Thanksgiving celebrations on Thursday (November 23), Red found a moment to hop on Twitter and address the “health spending card” incentive scammers are tricking innocent people into signing up for on platforms like Instagram.

“It’s your girl Sexyy Red, I’m gonna show you how to put $6,400 in your pocket right now for free,” the St. Louis native says in the clip below. As she begins talking, a clip of a girl putting food in her mouth plays – like a ploy to capture people’s attention – before cutting to a snippet of the redhead standing awkwardly with a man playing guitar. “The state be handing out these stacks to every single one of y’all. You don’t even need a job,” the AI-generated voiceover promises viewers.

Sexyy Red Growing Tired of Artificial Intelligence

Of course, nothing about this seems legit, but still, ignorant people are falling for the scam, damaging Red’s reputation despite her not orchestrating the scheme. “My lawyer bout to have a field day,” the 25-year-old wrote on Twitter, suggesting legal action is in the works against her newfound opps. “AI needs to be regulated… Perfect example as to why,” one concerned person chimed in beneath her post.

Fans React to Fake Stimulus Program Ad

Sexyy Red isn’t the only rap diva whose image and voice are being used without her consent amid the AI takeover. Earlier this week, Cardi B threatened legal action against people taking advantage of her influence as well, calling it “easy money.” Keep scrolling to see how social media feels about the fake videos circulating online, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Cardi B Saw A Super Janky Ad That Used AI To Impersonate Her (Pretty Poorly) And She’s Thinking Lawsuit

AI tools are relatively new when it comes to being widely accessible on a consumer level. Despite that, a lot of them are already pretty dang good. In terms of impersonation via audio or video, AI tools are producing some convincing results, and here we have a case where they’re not being used for good at the expense of Cardi B.

An online ad for an entity called USA Wellness Wave (about which there appears to be virtually no information online) features an AI-generated voiceover that bears more than a passing resemblance to Cardi, although some of the vocal rhythms and other nuances give away that it’s not the real deal. The video uses unrelated videos of Cardi speaking to give the impression that it’s actually her talking, and the voiceover promotes a supposed “stimulus-style program” that promises free and easy money to applicants.

The clip was shared on Twitter recently and Cardi caught wind of it today. It would seem she’s not a fan, as she re-posted it and wrote, “AI is crazy smh….another lawsuit that fell right on my lap…I love easy money.”

Meanwhile, Cardi recently cleared up rumors that suggested she was quitting music.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Cardi B Threatens To Sue Over AI Ad: “I Love Easy Money”

Cardi B recently took to Twitter to call attention to an advertisement that used artificial intelligence (AI) to replicate her voice. The ad urges viewers to “pay attention” to Cardi’s advice in order to receive $16K, which her fans note sounds a bit too good to be true. It looks like the rapper agrees, and never approved of the advertisement being created. Moreover, she appears to be considering taking legal action over the debacle, which could mean trouble for the ad’s creators.

“AI is cr*zy smh,” she wrote. “Another lawsuit that fell right on my lap… I love easy money.” It’s no secret that as AI continues to advance, there are more opportunities than ever for companies to take advantage of unwitting celebrities’ fanbases. Cardi has made it clear, however, that she won’t be letting this one slide. This is far from the first time an artist has publicly taken issue with AI, as fans just recently saw Bad Bunny tear into a viral song that used the technology to replicate his vocals.

Cardi B Says Lawsuit “Fell Right On [Her] Lap”

The Puerto Rican performer ranted to fans in his WhatsApp group earlier this month, letting them know that if they really support him, they won’t be listening to the A.I. track. “If you guys liked that sh*t of a song that’s viral on TikTok, leave this group right now,” he explained in Spanish. “You don’t deserve to be my friends (sic),” he added before telling fans of the viral song to “‘chu chu’ out of” the group.

It seems as though Cardi feels similarly about the issue, and is willing to go to court to rest her case. What do you think of Cardi B threatening to take legal action over the A.I. ad? Do you think her anger is justified, or is she overreacting? Has artificial intelligence gone too far? Bad Bunny Blasts Viral A.I. Song, Kendall Jenner Breakup Rumors Swirl

Recently, Bad Bunny took to social media to share his thoughts on a track that’s gone viral, “Demo #5 Nostalgia.” The song in question was created by FlowGPT on TikTok. They used artificial intelligence (A.I.) to replicate the hitmaker’s voice, which he’s now made it clear that he isn’t a fan of. He sounded off on his WhatsApp channel earlier this week, advising fans to steer clear of the A.I.-generated track.

“If you guys liked that sh*t of a song that’s viral on TikTok, leave this group right now,” he told supporters in Spanish. “You don’t deserve to be my friends (sic).” Bad Bunny continued, claiming that his most recent album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana was created in attempts to “get rid of people like that.” His rant didn’t stop there, however. He went on to tell those who like the viral song to “‘chu chu’ out of” the group. “My God, I don’t want you at the tour either,” he also added.

FlowGPT later responded to Bad Bunny’s rant, claiming that it wasn’t their intention to upset him. “I’m just a robot created to experiment with new technologies and to create new collaborations to the world of music,” they explained. Unfortunately, A.I.-generated music may not be at the top of Bad Bunny’s list of concerns.

A recent post by flame Kendall Jenner also has some fans speculating that they could have called it quits. “What’s meant for me, will simply find me,” she captioned a simple shot of a sunset earlier this week. Their split is only rumored for now, and Bad Bunny was seen just last month in attendance at Jenner’s Halloween party at the Chateau Marmont.

The D.O.C. Explains How He’s Using A.I. To Make A New Album

The D.O.C. says that he’s working on a new album through the use of artificial intelligence following the 1989 car accident that permanently altered his voice. Speaking with CBS Mornings for a new interview, the rapper explained that he’s working with an A.I. company called Suno on the process.

“Fab 5 Freddy asked me if I would be interested in building an album using A.I. technology,” D.O.C. said. He later added: “When this thing happens, it sounds like a real me. I’ve been doing this since I was 16 years old, but I wanted to be the greatest of all-time. And A.I. might give me another shot at that title.”

While The D.O.C. says he wants another shot at the greatest of all-time title, he previously gave that honor to the legendary Notorious B.I.G. Speaking about the best rappers of all time the What’s The Headline podcast in May, he explained that he was original resentful of Biggie’s talent. “I got mad at Biggie Smalls ’cause I could hear where I was gonna go,” he said at the time, as noted by HipHopDX. “When he first came [out], I could hear where I wanted to go, and couldn’t do it. So it made me be angry with him — before I met him. But when I met him, he was such a genuine dude. He asked me to take a picture with him, and he was so f*ckin’ humble. And I was like, how can you hate a dude like that? Ever since then, he’s been my No. 1, really. We were in Chicago at something. It was Saafir and Craig Mack and Smalls and myself. And he was just a cool dude, man.”

U.S. Senators Propose Federal Bill Banning A.I. Vocal Use Without Permission

After all the controversy, a bipartisan bill in Congress currently in discussion draft form might result in the banning of AI-generated vocals. Moreover, Senators Coons, Blackburn, Klobuchar, and Tillis proposed the Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe Act (NO FAKES) on Thursday (October 12). Specifically, this bill would ban the unauthorized use of someone’s replicated vocals by artificial intelligence for another’s personal gain. In addition, the replicator would be liable to damages that the original person suffers as a result of this practice. However, there are still some exceptions in the bill that protect First Amendment rights of free speech, such as AI vocals for parody, commentary, or criticism purposes.

“Generative AI has opened doors to exciting new artistic possibilities, but it also presents unique challenges that make it easier than ever to use someone’s voice, image, or likeness without their consent,” Senator Coons stated. “Creators around the nation are calling on Congress to lay out clear policies regulating the use and impact of generative AI, and Congress must strike the right balance to defend individual rights, abide by the First Amendment, and foster AI innovation and creativity. I am thankful for the bipartisan partnership of Senators Blackburn, Klobuchar, and Tillis as we work to protect all individuals from unauthorized replication and ensure that the United States sets clear rules governing the intersection of AI and intellectual property.”

“Songwriters, actors, and our incredibly talented creative community deserve the right to own their name, image, and likeness (NIL),” Senator Blackburn expressed. “This legislation is a good first step in protecting our creative community, preventing AI models from stealing someone’s NIL. [It ensures] that those rights are given primary consideration under the law. I look forward to joining Senator Coons and my colleagues in the Senate and House to develop strong bipartisan legislation we can pass into law.” “More and more, we’re seeing AI used to replicate someone’s likeness and voice in ads, images, and videos without consent or compensation. Our laws need to keep up with this quickly evolving technology,” Senator Klobuchar added. “We must put in place rules of the road to protect people from having their voice and likeness replicated through AI without their permission.”

“While AI presents extraordinary opportunities for technological advancement, it also poses some new problems, including the voice and likeness of artists being replicated to create unauthorized works,” Senator Tillis remarked. “We must protect against such misuse. I’m proud to co-introduce this draft legislation to create safeguards from AI and protect the authentic work of these artists.” Meanwhile, for more news and updates on artificial intelligence in music, log back into HNHH.
