DJ Akademiks Claims Drake Scrapped A Press Conference And Reveals “100 GIGS” Release Details

DJ Akademiks is back at it again, indulging in more behind the scenes Drake claims and post-beef strategies for The Boy. This time around, Ak spoke on his livestream about an allegedly scrapped press conference Drizzy was going to host last year or the year before, plus some rumors about how the recent 100 GIGS drop made it to streaming.

“So Elliott Wilson, back in the day, was just – and I guess I can say this now ’cause Elliott and Drake ain’t cool no more. Apparently, Drake was about to do a press conference last year or the year before at his house. He was hitting up select journalists to fly to Toronto,” DJ Akademiks continued. “You know everyone was just salivating over this Drake interview. ‘Are we going to get a Drake interview?’ Like, the whole culture, every goddamn media personality, just everybody. And apparently, this was the plan. I think Drake comes up with it. ‘Yo, I’m going to bring certain journalists here and we’re going to do a press conference. So rather than pick one of y’all to do an interview with, I have all of y’all.’ It didn’t end up happening.”

DJ Akademiks Speaks On Drake’s Alleged Press Conference And 100 GIGS Drop

“But I remember [Elliott] was just, like, it wasn’t really Drake, it was Mr. Morgan,” DJ Akademiks went on. “And that’s when I started hearing that name and I’m like, ‘Who the f**k is Mr. Morgan?’ I asked Drake for his Spotify wrap-up to see how many streams he did, ’cause I post everybody’s streams at the end of the year. He was like, ‘Oh, just hit Mr. Morgan.’ Anyway, I just didn’t know who he was. Apparently, the guy was just in the room, I didn’t even know it was him. They called Drake, I’m there with [PARTYNEXTDOOR]. But then, it kind of shows how organic and how simple Drake’s process is.

“So it’s me, PARTY, Mr. Morgan, and Drake’s on the phone,” DJ Akademiks concluded. “That’s the night he dropped that three-pack. 100 GIGS, is that what it’s called? He asked the Mr. Morgan dude, ‘Yo, are we still going up with that thing?’ It was 1AM or whatever. And the dude is like, ‘Yeah, it’ll probably be on DSPs in 30 minutes.’ I was like, damn. I would think this is a big Universal operation seeing the fact that their artists they gave 100 million dollars [to] just leaked some songs. But it looked like they just organically released it.”

Drake Nabs Impressive Streaming Numbers For “100 GIGS” Cuts

Drake’s new 100 GIGS songs landed on streaming after a UMG takedown on Instagram, and fans couldn’t be happier with the increased accessibility. Moreover, it seems like they’re really enjoying these cuts so far, as “It’s Up” featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage was the top new rap debut of the weekend alongside “Blue Green Red,” garnering 2.01 million streams in its opening day on Spotify. This achievement resulted in – you guessed it – more annoying discourse from the 6ix’s Stans and Kendrick Lamar disciples about their battle. One side is delusional enough to pretend that people actually thought The Boy’s career would be over after “Not Like Us” and are happy to point out the obvious truth, and the other just can’t stop their gloating for better or worse.

Nevertheless, Drake fans ate this weekend, and they also got some brand-new speculative beef updates to defend their fav over. You might have noticed that the men’s basketball cohort for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics got congratulations from both Drizzy and his bodyguard Chubbs for winning the gold medal over France. The latter individually congratulated Steph Curry (who the Toronto superstar posted on his Finsta), Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum… but not LeBron James, further fueling rumors that there’s a rift between LBJ and OVO that haven’t really been cleared up effectively.

Drake Puts Up Big Spotify Numbers With 100 GIGS

Well, that’s if you care; if you don’t, then it’s just business as usual for two massive celebrities that can’t keep track of the friendships and presumed loyalties that no one told them they had to defend and isolate forever. Elsewhere, Kendrick Lamar is also continually finding commercial success these days too, as “Not Like Us” became the most streamed diss track of all time.

While fans “restored order” to the Spotify monthly listeners rankings and Drake is now over K.Dot again, hopefully more consistent release from either artist means that the fallout around their battle lessens more and more. After all, they surely have more things to talk about and other things on their mind that they want to artistically pursue. But we’ll have to wait and see. For now, let’s witness how these new cuts age in Aubrey Graham’s discography.

Drake Shows Love To His Streaming Fans, Drops Off “100 GIGS” EP

It was bound to happen at some point. Drake has just put “It’s Up,” “Blue Green Red”, and “Housekeeping Knows”, aka 100 GIGS, on DSPs. All three songs were a part of 100 GB of numerous files, videos, and random clips that the Canadian icon decided to share with the world. All of this is available on 100gigs.org, a site he launched on August 6. As of now, we aren’t really sure what Drake’s plan is right now by releasing all of this content. Sure, he supposedly took the time to respond to A$AP Rocky’s subliminals on “It’s Up”. But as far as we can tell, none of his bars were digs at Kendrick Lamar.

21 Savage did seem to have his sights set on him on the track we just mentioned, though. The only slight indicator that shows that something is possibly brewing is an IG account that Drake follows. It goes by indigochild369 and in the user’s bio it reads, “First account made some people anxious. Here we go again round 2 “‘FIGHT’”. That message presumably alludes to the plottttwiistttttt page that Drake put together during this 100gigs.org rollout. This could all be a ploy to try and get under Lamar’s skin, which is something Drake did plenty of during “round one”. Obviously, though he would be quite foolish to do that again based on the results. But yes, as it stands, Drake is doing what he does best with this 100 GIGS release, and these next few weeks will be interesting to monitor.
