Behind The Scenes Of Doja Cat’s Met Gala Face Prosthetic

Doja Cat likely will not be invited to the Met Gala again based on her alleged rulebreaking. However, her decision to dress up as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat is certain to have a lasting impact. She spent much of the night meowing into the microphones of various reporters, staying fully in character. Now, we have details of how the look came to be. On May 2, Vogue, Instagram itself, and a special effects artist posted several Instagram videos revealing how they helped Doja Cat arrive at the 2023 Met Gala looking like a cat.

Prosthetic artist Malina Stearns and makeup artist Ernesto Casillas helped accomplish Doja’s transformation. Apparently, it took four hours to apply prosthetics and makeup to Doja’s entire face. Oscar de la Renta’s co-creative directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim designed her outfit, with the concept in the works for nearly a year. The cat-inspired makeup was a tribute to her stage name and the late Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette. Furthermore, according to her creative director and stylist Brett Alan Nelson, Doja herself suggested the prosthetic idea.
