Maroon 5 Secures Posthumous Verses From Nipsey Hussle & Juice WRLD

Maroon 5 has dominated the pop charts since the mid-aughts and remains one of the most commercially successful bands out right now. Their ability to cross genres and incorporate acts from different musical backgrounds has played a huge role in their longevity. Adam Levine has worked alongside some of the biggest stars in hip-hop from Kanye West to Eminem and 50 Cent but Maroon 5 has also drawn inspiration from hip-hop on numerous occasions with songs like “Girls Like You” ft Cardi B and “Cold” ft Future.

The group is getting ready to release their forthcoming albumJordi, named after their former manager who passed away in 2017. Maroon 5 unveiled the project’s tracklist which includes some heavy hitters from the rap game. However, the surprising part of the tracklist is the posthumous appearances from Nipsey Hussle and Juice WRLD. Nip is featured on the remix of “Memories” alongside YG while Juice is credited on the song, “Can’t Leave You Alone.”

Other appearances on the tracklist include Megan Thee Stallion, Anuel AA, and more.

Kodak Black Announces “Happy Birthday Kodak” Release Date

Kodak Black has been in the midst of a quiet but impactful run, having followed up his early prison release with albums Bill Israel and the recent Haitian Boy Kodak. In fact, the latter actually earned him a co-sign from Drake, who claimed that Kodak was “on another level” and sparked collaborative rumors in the process.

Suffice it to say, the Floridian rapper has been riding a wave of momentum, and it doesn’t appear to be letting up anytime soon. He recently announced the release date for another forthcoming project, confirming that Happy Birthday Kodak would be landing on June 11th — appropriately, the rapper’s twenty-fourth birthday. He didn’t share much more about what’s to come, though he did confirm that his upcoming Haitian Boy Kodak show at Fort Lauderdale has been postponed in order to lock down a larger venue.

It seems as if Kodak has no intention of slowing down, and it should be interesting to see if Happy Birthday Kodak mirrors its predecessor in terms of length — as well as sales. Kodak recently voiced frustration with the fact that his latest album moved 22k album-equivalent units, accusing the rap game of turning its back on “gangsta rap.”

“I Use To Sell 100K First Week Etc,” he wrote, in a scathing and since-deleted rant. “But along the way the game Turnt gay !!! Even tho I get to singing to b*tches I signed up fa Gangsta Rap , Not This peekaboo ass sh*t where good hearted , Real individuals are forced to hide their support for you in public … I can’t Say It’s Blackballing but it’s alotta D*cksuckin & Ass Kissin Goin On.”

It should be interesting to see whether Happy Birthday Kodak sees an increase in sales. Look for the project to land in full on June 11th, and sound off if you’ll be tuning in.

Noah “40” Shebib Shares Heartfelt Congratulations To Drake

It was a massive evening for Drake and the OVO team as the rapper was dubbed Billboard’s Artist Of The Decade. In the last decade, Drake has churned out hit records like no other artists in any genre and continues to be a dominant force. His acceptance speech was short but memorable since Adonis made a cameo, bursting into tears as his dad dedicated the award to him.

The rapper was surrounded by the family and friends that he came up with. OVO members surrounded the stage as Drake and Adonis stood at the microphone to accept the award. Noah “40” Shebib, a key contributor to Drake’s success as a musician, was also on stage with Drizzy but he took to Instagram where he penned a heartfelt message to his collaborator and musical partner.  40 shared a photo of Drake taken on Jan. 5th, 2010, reflecting on a pivotal moment in there careers.

“I knew then with out any doubt or hesitation that this was his and our path. Greatness is rare and when your lucky enough to see it or even be a part of this greatness it will change your perspective on life forever. The phrase anything is possible suddenly takes on a new meaning,” he wrote. “Congratulations to my brother for wining Artist of the Decade at the Billboard awards. No one in this world is more deserving of this honour. It devastates me I wasn’t there to celebrate this moment. But better times are a head of us. And I’ll be there in ten for the next one.”

Eminem & Post Malone Collab Teased By Cole Bennett

Eminem certainly doesn’t need pop stars to move units, but that hasn’t kept Slim from collaborating with them from time to time. Boasting duets with Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Pink, Beyonce, Sia, and more, Em has by and large shifted away from his crossover cuts on recent releases like Kamikaze and both Music To Be Murdered By albums. Still, that hasn’t stopped many from imagining a collaboration between Eminem and Post Malone, who has already worked with an impressive repertoire of hip-hop talent.

The narrative was given further credence by White Gold, with whom Em has collaborated on songs like “You Gon Learn” and Zeus.” Following the release of Side B, Gold expressed interest in quarterbacking a duet between Posty and Slim, revealing that he had the perfect song for the occasion. “I got some shit man,” he teased. “There’s one I really want him and Post Malone to do. I have the perfect song for them to be on.”

Though rumblings surrounding the possibility of an Eminem and Post Malone link-up have been largely quiet, videographer Cole Bennett recently came forward to pour a little bit of gasoline on the fire. During an Instagram story that has since been deleted (captured by SouthPawers), Bennett sparked hype by including both an M&M and a baseball bat adorned with Post Malone’s signature barbed-wire pattern, as previously used on his Beerbongs & Bentleys album. In addition, he also shared a “shocked” and “shhh” emoji, which in itself suggests a big surprise en route.

While it’s entirely possible that this is all smoke and mirrors, it wouldn’t be the first time a Bennett Instagram story has heralded new Eminem music. Between “Godzilla” and “Gnat,” the director has become Em’s go-to guy for visuals, and given how prolific Slim has been of late, would a new single really be that out of the ordinary?

Smino Gives A Spacey, Laid-Back Performance Of ‘Rice & Gravy’ In His Return To ‘A Colors Show’

One surefire sign of a rising artist’s impending success is an appearance on ColorsxStudios YouTube performance show COLORS. Artists who previously appeared on the show before big breakouts include Billie Eilish, Daniel Caesar, Doja Cat, Jorja Smith, and Kali Uchis, while rappers like Black Thought, Earthgang, Gunna, Little Simz, and Rexx Life Raj have all made fan-favorite appearances over the years as well.

Today, St. Louis rapperSmino achieved the rare accomplishment of appearing on the show twice as he performs his new song “Rice & Gravy.” As he previously called the song the beginning of a “new journey,” and said he felt “like a brand new artist” upon its release, it’s possible he’s using the performance as a career reset, getting back to basics before he makes a push to return to the buzzy, blog-approved stature he reached with his prior projects Blkswn and Noir.

The spacey, soulful crooner/rapper pulls up with a signature, boundary-breaking look that’ll certainly call to mind a fusion of both members of Outkast in this performance, the last of ColorsxStudios’ collaboration with British fashion house Burberry which included alt-R&B stars like Maria Isabel and Serpentwithfeet. Burberry outfitted each of the artists for their appearances; here, Smino appears in a vibrant, two-toned blue jacket, which truly pops against the warm caramel background for his performance.

Julio Jones Confirms He’s Done With The Falcons: “I’m Out Of There”

Julio Jones confirmed that he has requested a trade from the Atlanta Falcons, Monday, and says he has no interest in joining the Dallas Cowboys.

“You want to go to the Cowboys, Julio? Or you want to stay in Atlanta?” Shannon Sharpe asked Jones on Monday’s episode of Undisputed.

Jones responded, “I’m outta there, man.”

When asked if he was considering joining the Cowboys, he answered: “I want to win. I ain’t going to Dallas, I never thought of going to Dallas.”

After Jones broke the news, Adam Schefter reported that the Falcons are looking for a first-round pick in return for the seven-time Pro Bowler.

“Atlanta has asked teams that have inquired about Julio Jones for a first-round draft pick in return, per sources,” he tweeted. “Others around the league don’t believe the Falcons ultimately will get a first for the perennial Pro-Bowl wide receiver.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed that Jones requested the trade months ago: “Clarity on the situation between the #Falcons and WR Julio Jones: The All-Pro requested a trade from the organization a few months ago, sources say, and the team then agreed to listen to offers. That’s how it began and why it continues.”

Zack Snyder Says He Wants To Remake “The Wrestler” & Cast Amy Adams

Zack Snyder says he wants to make a “female version of The Wrestler” starring Amy Adams in the lead role. Adams previously worked with the Army of the Dead director when she starred as Lois Lane in Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

“It’s a kind of female version of The Wrestler, about a midwestern housewife who happens to have a pretty good body, and starts to do some bodybuilding competitions, and then falls down a rabbit hole of steroids and hormones,” Snyder told the Telegraph. “It becomes a contest between fitness and family, and she loses her family because she’s spending all her money on diet supplements and drugs and trainers.”

The Wrestler was released in 2008 and stars Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei, and Evan Rachel Wood. Rourke was nominated for an Oscar for his performance but lost to Sean Penn, who starred in Milk

“It would be such a hugely hard job just training to the point at which it was believable. And you need someone like Amy who loves the craft to do it,” Snyder said.

Later in the interview, Snyder mentions that he’d also be interested in making a pornographic film: “Appreciation of the human form is something I really warmed to. I’ve always wanted to make a religious film and a pornographic film, and I’ve never really yet had the chance to do either. Maybe if I could combine the two. Or maybe 300 is that film, in some sense, a little bit. Or at least a primer for what that film could be.”

6ix9ine Says Rappers Don’t Make As Much As Him For Shows

6ix9ine is on a trolling spree, stirring up drama with everyone from Young Thug to Jake Paul throughout these past weeks. A recent successful show in Texas had 6ix9ine feeling emboldened as his most recent post seemingly takes a jab at another famous rapper in the music industry.

The “FEFE” rapper shared a video of him performing at Payne Arena on Sunday to a welcoming crowd. Fans screamed every lyric along with Tekashi as he danced around on stage. In the caption for the video, 6ix9ine declared “RAPPERS LIE AND SAY THEY GET 200,000 A SHOW AND BE PERFORMING INFRONT A DEAD CROWD WITH 700 PEOPLE THERE. I DROP 4 SONGS A YEAR AND GET 500,000 DOLLARS A SHOW AND DO ARENAS!!! TELL THESE RAPPERS CATCH THE FUCK UPPPPPPPPP.”

Tekashi has been on a road back to the spotlight after dropping his project “TattleTale” in August 2020. He took to his craft to finally express his side of his famous snitching scandal in songs such as “Locked Up Pt.2”

His most recent single, “ZAZA” was released in February, hinting at another full project from the rapper in the next few months. Now that he has been released from the limits of house arrest and COVID-19 precautions, the rapper has his sights set on getting back to performing, leading to this new claim about his high income.

Snitching must really pay off. Do you think 6ix9ine is really pulling in $500k per show?

Drake Reps Mach Hommy’s New “Pray For Haiti” Album

Though his music might not always reflect it, Drake has always been one to respect the bars. He’s certainly proved his own prowess in that department on songs like the more recent “Lemon Pepper Freestyle,” his YMCMB reunion “Seeing Green,” and the all-too-often forgotten “Omerta.”

It stands to reason that the 6ix God would be in the know regarding the game’s elite lyricists, and evidently, he’s recently had one on steady rotation over the course of this past weekend. In between working on his upcoming Certified Lover Boy and taking home Artist Of The Decade at the Billboard Music Awards, Drizzy was diving deep into Mach Hommy’s brand new album Pray For Haiti, the rapper’s first Griselda release since 2016’s Haitian Body Odor.

In a recent IG story caught by HipHopDX, Drizzy repped Mach Hommy’s Pray For Haiti standout “Folie A Deux,” featuring Westside Gunn and Keisha Plum. For whatever reason, Drake’s display of taste seemed to catch some fans off guard, with some taking to Twitter to voice their surprise. On the other hand, others acknowledged that Drake’s appreciation for underground hip-hop has been well documented. Either way, the story caught the eye of Hommy’s collaborator Earl Sweatshirt, who co-signed it with a retweet on his page.

It’s not the first time Drizzy has repped Westside Gunn’s Griselda label, having praised the Buffalo crew during a Rap Radar interview. In addition, he also worked with Benny The Butcher on a yet-to-be-released track, which may or may not be appearing on Certified Lover Boy. Check out his Mach Hommy-appreciation post below, and sound off if you think Drake should connect with the well-respected lyricist at some point in the future.

Lil Gotit And Gunna ‘Work Out’ Some Smooth Chemistry On A High-Velocity New Single

Although rising Atlanta star Lil Gotit isn’t a member of YSL Records proper, he is closely affiliated through his brother Lil Keed, as well as a lyrical style that fits right in alongside the likes of Young Thug and Gunna. The latter strengthens the bond with the younger affiliate on Gotit’s new song “Work Out.” While Gotit leads things off with a high-pitched, high-velocity verse, Gunna mellows things out in his sparse additions, giving Gotit a near-perfect foil against which to reflect.

“Work Out” is the fourth single from his upcoming album Top Chef Gotit, which arrives June 10 on Alamo Records. The project will feature many of the aforementioned YSL standouts (Gunna, Lil Keed, Yak Gotti, and Young Thug) as well as Nav, who previously featured on Gotit’s single “Burnt N Turnt.” Prior to that, Gotit released the singles “Wok” and “Toosie.” Top Chef Gotit follows 2020’s Hood Baby 2 and Superstar Creature, as well as his collaborative goup project A-Team, released in conjunction with Keed, Lil Yachty, and Zaytoven.
