Jay-Z Explains Exactly Why DMX Was An Impossible Act To Follow As A Live Performer

In the wake of the late DMX’s tragic, untimely death, his fans and peers have been sharing their memories and stories that reveal just what made him such a formidable force in the hip-hop world. Who better to testify to X’s power as a live performer than one of the best and most influential New York rappers in the game, Jay-Z. As the clip below shows, in a recent episode of LeBron James’ show, The Shop on HBO, even Jay-Z found X a tough act to follow. Just as he showed his fallibility in a recent episode by admitting he sometimes forgets his own lyrics, Jay let James and crew know that following up a DMX set was no easy feat.

“X is about to go on, and I’m like, you know, I wanna see,” he begins. “X is going before me. And then he goes (growls), and the f*cking arena goes crazy. First of all, it’s deafening… and I’m like oh sh*t.” Jay goes on to explain the other elements of X’s set that get the crowd hype, including ripping his shirt off halfway through his set, and then, of course, leading the entire crowd in prayer as a closing act. Then, after all that, it’s time for Jay-Z to take the stage — a tough act to follow indeed. Check out his retelling of the set above, it showcases exactly why Jay is such a successful figure in pop culture in the first place, he’s a great storyteller. And if you’re craving more DMX, check out the posthumous Exodus album his label released this past Friday.

Marilyn Manson Faces 3rd Lawsuit, Jane Doe Accuses Him Of Rape: Report

As the saying goes, when it rains, it pours, and it must be monsoon season for Marilyn Manson. Unchecked allegations of sexual and physical abuse brought against shock-rocker Marilyn Manson spans back to the late 1990s, but only within the last few years have several women not only stepped forward to share their stories but to take Manson to court. In recent months, we’ve shared a series of reports and updates regarding legal woes for the singer as people including ex-girlfriends and assistants have vocalized allegations of rape, domestic violence, and sexual battery.

Manson has repeatedly denied each new accusation through statements issued by his attorneys, and on the heels of two lawsuits filed byGame of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco and the singer’s former assistant Ashley Walters, there’s another legal battle on the horizon.

A new lawsuit was filed by “Jane Doe” who claims that she dated the rocker back in 2011 and during their courtship, he allegedly showed her a video that “depicted abuse of a groupie after a 1996” concert in Hollywood, reports Deadline. This fan was reportedly “forced to drink urine” and was allegedly threatened with a firearm that she may have also been hit with at some point, but that wasn’t confirmed by the publication.

TMZ reported that a source claimed the video wasn’t real but was supposed to be a short film, however, it was never promoted or publicized. Jane Doe included in her lawsuit that the film was kept locked away in a safe. It was something that reportedly made the unidentified woman “afraid for her life,” and she asserted that when she returned to Manson’s residence to give him back a key, Jane Doe alleges that the singer raped her and threatened her life.

Read through the statement that Manson has left on his Instagram page regarding allegations of assault. He hasn’t updated his page since uploading the post on February 1.

G Herbo & Taina Williams Share Newborn’s Name In Adorable Post

There has been much said in recent months regarding the federal case against G Herbo. The Chicago rapper has been flying high in his career with each of his releases earning RIAA certifications or topping the charts, but he’s been named in a case along with five alleged associates that are accused of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. As Herbo’s legal team works overtime to make sure avoids jail, the rapper looked forward to the arrival of his baby with fiancée Taina Williams.

In the wee hours of the morning on Friday (May 28), an Instagram post made by Herbo began circulating online showing the rapper holding his little boy. In the caption, he only included two emojis: a black heart and a white heart.

Later, Taina returned to her Instagram with a first look. “Essex William Wright May 27, 2021 12:23am 6lbs 12oz,” she added in the caption. She also included the hashtag “myrainbowbaby,” and for those who may not know, a Rainbow Baby is the first child born after a mother suffers a miscarriage.

Back in early 2019, G Herbo caught up with XXL and talked about being a father. “People say when you have kids they change your life. Jay-Z Recalls Boycotting The Grammys For DMX: “They Didn’t Nominate Him”

We can only imagine the number of stories that Jay-Z has about DMX, and he shared a few of them during his visit on The Shop. The episode is one of the most coveted of the series thus far, and while Jay dropped plenty of gems and spoke on his life and career, he took some time to speak about memories he shared with the late DMX.

“By the way, the first time I boycotted the Grammys was for him,” said Jay. “We both came out that year. He didn’t get nominated. He dropped two albums, had two No. 1 albums in the same year. They didn’t even nominate him.”

“I won that year for Rap album, so my first Grammy win, I wasn’t there,” he continued. “I wasn’t even in the building because I boycotted it for him. So, there was a competitive thing but it was big love. He was so competitive with me. I never met a human being more competitive with me. Ever. Not even my big brother. No one.”

“We met battling. That’s how we met. We was in the Bronx, in the pool hall. After that battle, he went to like, a show. He got on stage and said, ‘Jay-Z, where you at?!'” Hov recalled as everyone laughed. “I was like, this guy is nuts. He was just all passion.” Then, Jay shared his “fondest memory” of DMX.

“He improved my stage show. Remember, Rap tours weren’t going out at that time. There was no Rap tours. Maybe the Fresh Best in the ’80s, but there were no Rap shows. Me, DMX, Method Man, Redman, Ja, The Lox—this tour is packed. First night, 360 sold out. Everyone has a great show. Meth and Red are flying in the audience. Incredible performance, everyone’s destroying it.”

“X is about to go on and I’m like, I wanna see. X is going before me,” said Jay. “The lights are off. He’s in the hallway.” Hov described the atmosphere, explaining that the music began and the “arena’s shaking.” Out of nowhere, DMX’s signature growl is heard as the rapper took to the mic. “And the f*cking arena goes crazy.”

“First of all, it’s deafening, and I’m like, ‘Oh sh*t.'” Check out the clips below and walk down memory lane with Jay-Z and The Shop.

Swizz Beatz Details Why Pop Smoke Wasn’t On DMX’s “Exodus”

It’s been a little over 24 hours since DMX’s posthumous album Exodus has hit streaming services and fans can’t get enough. The project boasts looks from Jay-Z, Nas, Alicia Keys, Bono, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Westside Gunn, Conway, and many more, but prior to its release, there were rumors regarding a possible posthumous inclusion from Pop Smoke. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out, and Swizz Beatz explained what happened while on The Breakfast Club.

“They used the verse already. I know X wouldn’t want an old verse. We fought for it,” said Swizz. “It was two verses and both of them was used. We went to get another verse and it was used.”

The DMX track that was slated for Pop was “Money Money Money.” Swizz added, “I just put Moneybagg on the song.” It may have been a disappointment to not have Pop Smoke, but the hitmaking producer admitted, “Not that they the same energy, but they the same demographic. X wanted to touch that part, too. I’m not mad at it. I like [the] Moneybagg verse better anyway.”

Fans seem to be enjoying it, as well. DMX’s legacy was well-preserved on Exodus and the project continues to receive praise from Earl Simmons’s supporters, friends, fellow artists, and family. Check out Swizz’s interview with The Breakfast Club below and let us know what you think about Moneybagg Yo filling Pop Smoke’s spot.

Ja Morant Reacts To 3 Jazz Fans Being Banned For Harassing His Parents At Game

What in the world is going on with NBA fans lately? They’re known to be fiercely tied to the teams they support, but this week, there have been three separate incidents that have given league officials pause. We previously reported on two: Russell Westbrook getting popcorn dumped on him from the stands as he was being ushered off of the court with an injured ankle, and a fan spitting on Trae Young. It has also been reported that several Utah Jazz fans have been banned from the league following what ESPN dubbed a “verbal altercation” following Wednesday’s (May 26) game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

According to reports, Grizzlies guard Ja Morant’s parents were the targets of three Jazz fans who made offensive and vulgar remarks toward them during the game. It was also noted that the three fans weren’t in a single party; Morant’s relatives dealt with three separate incidents.

“I know heckling,” Tee Morant told ESPN. “We were doing that the whole game. But that’s different than heckling. That’s straight-up disrespectful. That was too far out of line. You don’t say nothing like that heckling. That’s beyond heckling.” He explained that one person made sexually explicit comments to his wife, and while Tee was confronting the man, the fan was escorted out by security.

Another person said to the NBA dad, “I’ll put a nickel in your back and watch you dance, boy.” Surrounding Jazz fans confronted the man and he, too, was shown the exit. A third fan targeted Jamie Morant, Ja Morant’s mother, and reportedly said to her, “Shut the f*ck up, b*tch.” The Utah Jazz issued a statement regarding the incidents, condemning the behavior of those three individuals.

“The Utah Jazz have zero tolerance for offensive or disruptive behavior,” they stated. “An incident occurred last night involving a verbal altercation during Game 2. Arena security staff intervened, and the investigation resulted in the removal and banning of three Jazz fans indefinitely. We apologize to all who were impacted by this unfortunate incident and condemn unacceptable fan behavior.”

Check out a few responses from Ja Morant and LeBron James below.

Tyson Beckford Claims Kanye West Tried To Flex On Him Over Kim Kardashian

It was back in 2018 when an unlikely social media spat occurred between Tyson Beckford and Kim Kardashian. According to Beckford, Kardashian’s people contacted him because she wanted him to train her. When he was given a reference photo of Kim’s goal, Beckford was critical of her plastic surgery. During their back and forth, Beckford said that Kardashian insinuated that he was gay and that’s where things took a turn.

“It didn’t need to go that far,” he said of the feud to Sharon Carpenter. She took it there, but before I could even say anything, the gay community stepped up and was like, ‘Oh no girlfriend, you’re not gonna mess with one of our ambassadors who looks out for us and [is] always a guardian for us.'”

“And then, it was so weird that she called me gay because I was like, ‘Uh, sweetheart. You must’ve forgot, you know, I ain’t that way’… She said something like, ‘Sis, this not for you.’ And I was like, ‘My sister in the room?’ I was like, ‘Honey, I ain’t gay.'” He added, “I’m pretty, but I’m not gay. But I do have such utmost respect for the gay community.”

He also confirmed that he had a brief rendevous with the reality star. “Yeah, I think we dated for a weekend,” he recalled. “It was for a weekend. Her mom even invited me over to the house… They invited me to the house for dinner and stuff like that, but some people forget. In the end of all of this, Sharon, I got no beef.” He also shared that following it all, he attended Ralph Lauren’s birthday party and saw Kanye West.

“I was standing in the middle of Oprah Winfrey and Hillary Clinton. He was on the other side of the table, and when I tried to make eye contact with him, he wouldn’t look at me,” said Beckford. When he went to the restroom, Beckford accuses West of sending in a member of his entourage after him. The model claims he told the man, “I suggest you get out of this bathroom before I wipe you all over the wall.”

The Weeknd Continues To Tease His New Era With A Cryptic Tweet

After cleaning up with a whopping ten wins at the Billboard Music Awards last Sunday — you hear that, Grammys? — The Weeknd is doubling down on his promise that new era is coming. Though the R&B superstar didn’t even get to tour behind his most successful album yet, due to the blight that was COVID-19 on 2020 live events, he’s already unveiling a new concept anyway. After teasing the new era as “The Dawn” in one of his many acceptance speeches at the BBMAs, Abel hopped on Twitter this afternoon to double down on his promise.

“Ladies and gentleman, the…” he wrote, a cryptic teaser that had fans quickly filling in the blank: “Dawn is coming.”

Of course, it’s also a reference to a now-beloved SNL meme, when Daniel Craig introduced the star on the show. So do with it what you will!

Tesfaye’s After Hours era was a dark one punctuated by his constant red suit and facial injuries and bandages, a visual shtick that kept fans guessing as to how he’d show up to public events. If the “Save Your Tears” performance at the Billboard Music Awards was any indication, that visual is now down. His crips black suit with a long trench was the new look, and even if Ariana didn’t join him for the BBMAs performance, her appearance at his iHeartRadio Music Awards for their new remix was another indication that the pair might have more new music in the works. This was Ari’s first appearance after her secret at-home wedding, so it’s a big deal that she made it out on that stage.

Whether The Dawn era includes Ari or not, it’s definitely coming soon. And new music from The Weeknd is the perfect way to head back into festival season.
