Chloe Bailey Takes Impressive Nina Simone Cover To GMA

One-half of Grammy-nominated duo Chloe x Halle delivered an impressive rendition of one of Nina Simone’s iconic hits for the Good Morning America concert series on Monday morning, going viral shortly thereafter.

Chloe ambitiously went with “Feeling Good,” a song that has been covered by some of the most highly-regarded singers today, including John Legend and Lauryn Hill.

Her first performance of her cover was during ABC’s special event Juneteenth: Together We Triumph – A ’Soul of a Nation. Critics targeted Chloe after the event, but Nina Simone’s granddaughter quickly came to her defense

The 22-year-old singer took the song to the stage again, belting out big notes with a perfect amount of attitude in an equally-fiery, sequined red jumpsuit and matching knee-high boots.

The Grown-ish actress has now added the legendary hit to her long list of impressive covers, many of which have been catching the original artist’s attention.

After her performance, she told the show, “I have always loved Miss Nina Simone forever…I worked incredibly hard to put it all together. I still have scrapes and bruises from all the rehearsals. I’m just so happy to see that her granddaughter loved it. I’m happy that people loved it as well.”

The cover is available to stream as a part of the Liberated / Music For the Movement Vol. 3 alongside tracks by Cordae, Common, and Lucky Daye.

Check out her performance below and let us know what you think in the comments.

50 Cent & A$AP Rocky Show Off Their Beer Pong Skills At Juneteenth Kickback

It’s unknown if they had the winning team, but it looks as if A$AP Rocky and 50 Cent were giving people a run for their money over the weekend. We’ve previously reported on the various ways that some of our favorite artists celebrated Juneteenth on Saturday (June 19), and many of them made sure to link up for cocktails, house parties, and toasting to their successes.

50 Cent and A$AP Rocky’s crews united for a kickback where beer pong skills were put to the test, and Rocky was captured having a playful mishap or two.

The pair of rappers seemed to be on the same team before switching things up, and the person behind the camera had a bit of fun teasing Rocky about his misses. In recent years, the artist making waves on the celebrity beer pong circuit has been Post Malone as he’s been raking in the dough with his massive bets against his fellow performers. According to him, Drake “sucks” at the game.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as if Post was able to make this get-together, but it would interesting to see artists join together for an official league in the future. Check out A$AP Rocky and 50 Cent getting playfully roasted over their beer pong skills below.

Jazmine Sullivan Details Racist Macy’s Encounter On Juneteenth

This year’s Juneteenth was particularly special after it was officially declared a federal holiday in the United States, causing people from coast to coast to celebrate Black History. Several of our favorite celebrities went all out for the holiday: Lizzo shopped at Black businesses in Los Angeles and purchased food and books for strangers, Diddy hosted “Club Love,” and Jazmine Sullivan spent time with her loved ones but unfortunately, the singer reportedly endured a racist interaction at a department store.

Sullivan isn’t a celebrity who often shares details of her personal life on social media, but over the weekend, she offered a lengthy post to her Instagram Story, speaking about what happened at Macy’s. “Wow to look racism in the eye, and especially on Juneteenth was a wake up call that no matter the day, a racist gone racist,” she wrote.

“Mary King at willowgrove @Macy’s look of disgust while ringing up my boyfriends mother will forever be etched in my mind,” Sullivan continued. “An honest mistake (the stores mistake btw) should’ve been met w understanding and kindness. But if ur prejudice and prejudge people as soon as they walk up to the register then that’s obviously too much to ask.”

She then gave “Mary” a “news flash,” letting the Macy’s employee know that “black people get money, good jobs and ain’t tryna get over on ur boy cut frumpy looking racist ass.” Adding, “U need to be grateful we know Jesus b*tch.” Read Sullivan’s story in its entirety below.

Mike Epps To Portray Richard Pryor In Series About L.A. Lakers: Report

For years, there have been rumors roaming around Hollywood about a potential Richard Pryor biopic. There were two actor-comedians poised to tackle the role: Nick Cannon or Mike Epps. Both entertainers were even photographed portraying the beloved comedy icon, but in the end, the world didn’t receive a biopic, and any updates regarding the potential film faded into oblivion.

On Monday (June 21), Deadline reported that Epps would be taking on the role of Richard Pryor, albeit for a new series centered around the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s.

The outlet stated that the series is “based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. McKay’s Hyperobject Industries is producing.” While it doesn’t seem that a definitive title has been chosen just yet, it is known that the HBO series will follow the personal lives of the Lakers stars during that era.

Carina Conti will star as Paula Abdul (who worked as a choreographer of the Laker Girls); Max E. Williams portrays Jack Nicholson, the acclaimed actor who is known for being a Lakers superfan; as well as Adrien Brody as Pat Riley, Sally Field as Jessie Buss, and Wood Harris as Spencer Haywood.

Back in June 2019, Epps was asked during an interview if he believed the Pryor biopic would ever find its legs. “I’m having a great time,” Epps said. “I love the king Richard Pryor but it’s just one of those films that was hard to make, and I’m having a good time being Mike Epps right now. I’m somebody’s Richard Pryor.”

“Dexter” Father’s Day Teaser Could Mean Return Of His Son

As we reported, Dexter has been given a new identity in his upcoming comeback-season, thus hinting that Dexter has an entirely new life, and therefore, new characters in his life. Nonetheless, it does appear that one character from Dexter’s previous life will be making an appearance.

The official Dexter Twitter account let out yet another teaser for Father’s Day, depicting a picture of Dexter and his son burning in a fire paired with the caption, “Wanna know a secret? Daddy kills people.”

Fans on social media speculate the post may have been a silly nod to the holiday, or it may serve as a clue to the plot of the upcoming ninth season.

Harrison, Dexter’s son, was last seen in the show on season 7. If the show timeline follows along with the actual time passed since 2012, his son would be old enough to find his old man on his own, and possibly, stir up some trouble along the way.

Fans have been attempting to piece together clues from the show’s cryptic tweets since April, with new, bite-sized video teasers, or images, dropping monthly. The show is expected to premiere in Fall 2021, although no official release date has been confirmed.

Until then, check out the latest teaser below, and stay tuned for more.

“I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest,” Nassib continued. “I really got the best life. I have the best family, friends, job a guy could ask for. I’m a pretty private person, so I hope you guys know that I’m really not doing this for attention. I just think that representation and visibility are so important.”

“I actually hope that like, one day, videos like this and the whole coming out process are just not necessary. But, until then, I’m gonna do my best and do my part to cultivate a culture that’s accepting, that’s compassionate, and I’m gonna start by donating $100,000 to The Trevor Project.” The organization is hailed as the top foundation that works in suicide prevention in the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly with the youth.

The response to Carl Nassib’s news has been overwhelmingly supportive, so watch his video and check out a few responses below.

Yxng Bane & Stefflon Don Serve Lush Vibes On “Birthday”

The one thing about Yxng Bane is that he has so many different styles that he easily flips between. As naturally as he can dive into the sound of drill, he can deliver upbeat afro-pop-inspired bops immediately after. That being said, he’s clearly ready to follow up his 2020 project Quarantime with new music that’s meant to be enjoyed outside.

The rapper delivered his latest single on Friday, “Birthday” featuring Stefflon Don. The dancehall-driven production delivers an infectious rhythm that carries the romantic collab between Bane and Stefflon. Surely, this one will find itself being on rotation at plenty of birthdays in the months ahead.

Hopefully, the new single from Yxng Bane is a sign that he has a new album on the way.
