DaBaby Draws Inspiration From Hood Classics In “Red Light Green Light” Visual

It’s obvious that DaBaby is paying homage to a few of our favorite hood classic films in his music video to “Red Light Green Light.” The rapper shared his latest single on Friday (June 25), and hours later, he dropped off the accompanying music video. The cover art for the track showed DaBaby sporting a head full of S-Curl locks reminiscent of the 1990s, and the scene was all about those backyard cookouts with family and a few trouble-making friends.

Fans expect that DaBaby will be releasing a project sometime soon, especially considering “Red Light Green Light” came just a week after the rapper delivered his last single, “Ball If I Want To.” The visual for “Red Light Green Light” arrived with a warning—sort of—before the video began.

“Everything done in this amazing ass video is intended to be used for entertainment purposes only,” it reads. “The only influence we would like this video to have is to inspire others to reach new heights creatively. All guns used in this video are 100% props made out of woods or rubber. WARNING, there is no warning! Enjoy the video!”

Kid Cudi Expects Kanye West Would Approve Of “SNL” Dress: “He Respects Me For It”

His fans were excited to hear that he would be performing on Saturday Night Live, but Kid Cudi’s appearance was overshadowed by his choice of attire. He took to the stage wearing a floral dress and later, Cudi revealed the design was a collaboration with Virgil Abloh. It was done in tribute to Kurt Cobain as a nod to the late Nirvana icon’s gender-bending look that he wore at a show back in 1989.

Although Kudi has previously explained why he chose to wear the dress, he expounded on his reasoning during his visit to HBO Max’s The Shop: Uninterrupted. “SNL comes my way, so I immediately thought like, this would be the perfect opportunity to wear a dress. But, do I go to a store and just buy something off the rack? Or do I go get somebody to make me some sh*t?”

Kudi added that he tried just looking for something that was already for sale, but when nothing grabbed his attention, he decided to hit up Abloh. Within minutes, the two were exchanging prints and ideas. “The image of seeing Kurt Cobain in a dress was very rock n’ roll to me. That was cool,” he said.

“So, I already made my mind up years ago that I wanted to do this, and it’s cool because I’m also giving confidence to the kids and telling them to be themselves and do what they want to do.” He was then asked if any of his peers contacted him after seeing his SNL appearance.

“I don’t know, it’s not like Kanye is gonna hit me up and be like, ‘Oh, that dress was fresh,'” said Cudi as everyone laughed. “But, it’s okay, I know that Kanye sees that and he respects me for it.” Check out a clip of The Shop below and stream the episode on HBO Max.

Jackboy Claims Rappers Are Calling Into Rolling Loud Saying He’ll “Start A Problem”

It was just over two years ago when Kodak Black was taken into custody at Rolling Loud. The rapper was arrested on his way to the event and was tacked with federal weapons charges, and he was fighting his case all the way up until this year when he was able to acquire a pardon from former President Donald Trump. Kodak has been on his best behavior since being released from prison, but his protegé, Jackboy, has recently found himself on the wrong side of the law.

We previously reported earlier this year that JackBoy was pulled over in Georgia for a traffic violation but after the officer claimed they smelled marijuana, they conducted a full search on the vehicle. It was then that they allegedly located two firearms, so Jackboy was arrested.

The Florida rapper’s legal troubles may be interfering with his upcoming Rolling Loud appearance in Miami. Jackboy is scheduled to appear on July 25, but according to him, he’s in fear of getting cut by the powers that be.

“I might not perform @ Rolling Loud this year I got rappers calling them saying I’m gonna start a problem [face palm emoji],” he penned on his Instagram Story. Jackboy didn’t detail what “problems” or concerns his fellow rappers have allegedly called in, but as of today, he’s still scheduled to take to the Miami stage.

Soulja Boy Takes Last Minute Digs At Bow Wow: “You Mean That N*gga From ‘Drumline’?”

Following weeks of playful trolling, we’re less than 24 hours away from Soulja Boy and Bow Wow’s Verzuz. The two have been going at it on social media as they’ve cracked jokes at the other’s expense, and it’s all been in good fun. The rappers have had quite a history as they were at odds at one point, but they’ve known one another for over a decade and have taken the jabs in stride.

Not to be outdone, Soulja decided to get in just a few extra punches before the Verzuz goes down tomorrow (June 26). He sat down with Verzuz to answer some final questions—and in true Soulja Boy fashion, he didn’t disappoint. “When’s the last time you heard a n*gga say, ‘Turn that new Bow Wow on?’ Never.”

“Shad?! You mean that n*gga from Drumline?” he said with a smile. “That n*gga from Like Mike? Oh no, wait. The n*gga from Space Jam? Which one he was in? I can’t remember, that sh*t was so long ago!” He added, “We could have did this in private, you could have FaceTimed me, we could have played 20 songs.”

“Y’all really put me against this man? What was y’all thinkin‘?!” He even showed off the whip he’s willing to hand over if Bow Wow wins, but Soulja said he isn’t worried about losing the car. Check out the funny clip below along with Bow Wow’s video, as well.

Lil Pump Hit With Tax Lien, Allegedly Owes IRS $89K: Report

His online antics have made him one of the Rap game’s greatest trolls, but it’s reported that Uncle Sam is trying to get Lil Pump’s attention. We’ve watched as he’s taken over social media with his messages of support for Donald Trump or outlandish videos, but Radar Online claims they’ve acquired court documents that show Pump has gotten himself into trouble with the IRS.

According to the outlet, Lil Pump was hit was a massive tax debt and has refused to pay up.

Documents reportedly show that it was back in 2019 when the 20-year-old Florida rapper was told that he owed $89,378.68. In turn, the government reportedly “placed a lien against the rapper’s $5 million” palatial mansion in Miami. In 2019, the rapper reportedly purchased the $4.6 million waterfront home that boasts five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Radar Online reports that the lien was issued in April and if Pump doesn’t pay off his debts, he’ll soon find his property and assets seized. Even if his property is sold off, the lien makes it possible for the IRS to collect on the sale.

This news comes months after Pump revealed that someone smashed in his car windows and he made it known that he would go after the person or persons involved.

Jeezy Prefers “Plain Jane” Watches, Calls Buying Expensive Richard Mille Pieces “A Phase”

When it comes to jewelry, Jeezy knows all too well what’s it is like to own the flashiest, most show-stopping expensive pieces. As a veteran of the Rap game who has been spinning hits for decades, Jeezy is familiar with the iced-out jewels that come with the career, however, he’s toned things down just a bit as he’s matured. The newlywed sat down with GQ recently for their “10 Things I Can’t Live Without” series, and he had an interesting take on how he chooses his watches these days.

“I do own a lot of watches but I try to keep it plain as possible,” said Jeezy. “I just feel like that’s more powerful for me.”

“When you walk around and you look like it and you feel good and you can actually tell the time with your watch, I think that shows what type of person you are,” he continued. “With or without the stones. I like to do the Plain Jane. Gotta have that Rollie.”

He was then asked about his opinions on young artists spending money on expensive Richard Mille pieces. “I respect it, you know, you gotta think, when I came in the game, I had every piece of jewelry you could name, every watch there was with diamonds in it,” said Jeezy.

“We all gotta go through that phase. It’s a phase. You get into your money, you wanna spend it. I respect it. Just for me, a lot of places that I go, it doesn’t require that, but when I do pop out and I need that, I got a few of those, too. But I like to do the Plain Jane.”

George Floyd’s Family Reacts To Derek Chauvin Sentence As The World Debates Case

It’s a moment that many have been anxiously awaiting for a year, and now that Derek Chauvin has been sentenced, social media users are debating his case once again. On Friday (June 25), Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd last year, but reports state that the former police officer is expected to serve approximately 15 years.

Following the sentencing, attorney Ben Crump, co-counsel Antonio Romanucci and Chris Stewart, along with the Floyd family released a statement. “This historic sentence brings the Floyd family and our nation one step closer to healing by delivering closure and accountability,” they said.

The statement continues:

For once, a police officer who wrongly took the life of a Black man was held to account. While this shouldn’t be exceptional, tragically it is. Day after day, year after year, police kill Black people without consequence. But today, with Chauvin’s sentence, we take a significant step forward – something that was unimaginable a very short time ago. Now, we look for Chauvin to also be convicted on the federal charges pending against him and for the three other officers to face consequences for their actions. That would represent important additional steps toward justice.

“At the same time, it’s important to acknowledge how far we’ve come. Those who raised their voices to demand justice for George Floyd need to know that their activism made a difference. Not only were Chauvin and the City of Minneapolis held accountable, but cities and states across the country have passed meaningful reforms, including restrictions on chokeholds and better training and protocols. We need this sentence to usher in a new era of accountability that transforms how Black people are treated by police. To achieve that – real, lasting change in police departments from coast to coast – we need the U.S. Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act without further delay.”

Opinions and commentary regarding the length of Chauvin’s sentence have been a mixed bag, as some have applauded accountability in this case while others are angered that he wasn’t given a longer prison time. Of course, Chauvin’s supporters don’t believe that he should have to serve any time at all.

Tyrese Wants Rihanna To Portray His Girlfriend In “Fast & Furious” Series

We just received F9, the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious series, but the actors are already excited about what’s to come. It was recently announced that there are only two more films planned for the action-packed film series, and Tyrese Gibson already has a few ideas for his character’s storyline. The actor has been portraying Roman Pierce since 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious, and when speaking with HipHollywood, he revealed that he’s ready for his character to have a love interest.

“Roman has been single for the last 18 years,” said Gibson. “I threw out there not only do I think she is a beautiful sexy woman, but I threw out there Rihanna would be perfect for ‘Fast.‘”

“Not only is she a bad girl all of her attitude and energy, and I think for the movie premiere she would kill every red carpet there is,” he continued. “Hopefully if she joins the franchise they don’t take my idea and make her someone else’s girlfriend because I’ll be mad as hell.”

Tyrese also reportedly told HipHollywood that Fast 10 will begin filming next year but he’s keeping himself busy with the forthcoming Teddy Pendergrass biopic. We reported on the film back in February 2019 when it was announced that the actor was set to portray the music legend.

“I just read the script a couple days ago that Lee Daniels and the producer Donald De Line sent me, and I’m shook, it’s really about to happen,” he said. Do you think that Rihanna should join the Fast & Furious franchise?
