North West’s Performance In ‘The Lion King’ Live Concert Has Kanye West And Kim Kardashian Roaring On Pride Rock

Disney added yet another celebrity child to their casting ranks. This coming December, Blue Ivy Carter will co-star alongside her mother, Beyoncé, in Mufasa: The Lion King. Before the CGI-animated prequel hits theaters, lovers of The Lion King were treated to another musical dose of the classic film.

Yesterday (May 24), North West joined in on the fun as part of the film’s 30th anniversary show (Disney’s The Lion King 30th Anniversary – A Live-to-Film Concert Event) at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. In the role of Young Simba, West displayed both her acting and singing skills performing one of the movie’s breakout song, “I Just Can’t Wait to be King.”

In the sold-out crowd, West received support from both of her famous family, including dad Ye (better known as Kanye West), mother Kim Kardashian, and grandmother Kris Jenner. As she left the stage, Kim was waiting close by to embrace her daughter following her major accomplishment.

On Instagram, Kim continued the love by uploading images of the flower arrangement sent to West, along with custom cookies made with West’s face.

This is not West’s first venture into entertainment. Near the top of the year, she appeared on her father and Ty Dolla Sign’s song “Talking/Once Again.” However, West’s casting marked her debut musical role.

According to reports, for those who can’t catch the second performance today (May 25) starring North West, Jennifer Hudson, Heather Headley, Lebo M., Billy Eichner, Jason Weaver, and more, the special will air on Disney+. Find more information here.

Nicki Minaj Released From Police Custody In Amsterdam

Nicki Minaj has reportedly been released from police custody following her viral arrest in Amsterdam on Saturday morning. The Pink Friday 2 rapper recorded the incident on Instagram Live, showing an official attempt to bring her into custody for “carrying drugs,” despite her claiming not to be holding any. In turn, she demanded to speak with a lawyer before going any further.

In another Instagram post, she theorized that her ongoing tour is being “sabotaged.” “They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show,” she wrote. “They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.” She will reportedly have to pay “a fine” for the incident.

Minaj was attempting to fly to the United Kingdom as she was slated to perform at Manchester’s Co-Op Live on Saturday night as part of her Pink Friday 2 Tour. In more posts on X (formerly Twitter), Minaj added further context. “Now they said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls,” she wrote. “Keep in mind they took my bags without consent… My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yea & the pilot wants me to take my ig post down.” She’s since postponed the show in Manchester.

Rakim is planning to release a new album later this summer according to Kurupt. He made the announcement in a post on Instagram, Friday, while sharing the artwork for a single he’s featured on that appears to be from the project. The track’s title is “Rebirth” and it is produced by Rakim. Masta Killa is also featured on the song as well. In the caption of his post, Kurupt wrote: “July 26th – “Rebirth” Rakim new album Produced by Tha God Mc himself…. #Rakim #MasterKilla #GOTTi MY GOD……”

Fans were hyped in the comments section over the news. “OMG indeed! Is this a cover for a single?? I can’t believe a new Ra is on its way,” one user wrote. According to HipHopDX, Nicki Minaj is two songs away from breaking a new record. As of Thursday, May 23, the multi-cultural multi-hyphenate has not one but two diamond certifications to her name. Before receiving her newest and elusive plaque, she had gone 13 years without this level of recognition on a song. Her 2011 hip-hop/pop fusion “Super Bass” was the first in her catalog to go diamond, doing so on November 9, 2021. It made her just the second female rapper to rake in the required 10 million units. Perhaps her biggest nemesis, Cardi B, was the first to do so in March 2021 with her 2017 breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow.” Now, Nicki Minaj can add “Bang Bang” to the list.

This 2014 song belongs to singer Jessie J, but obviously, Nicki still receives the same credit. The relentlessly played pop/rap blend also featured Ariana Grande. You could not avoid this record no matter how hard you tried. Sporting events, clubs, restaurants, stores, the radio, it was everywhere. Well, all that marketing helped Nicki and everyone else involved achieve an incredible feat.

Despite Online Pushback, Frank Ocean’s Mother Supports His Placement On Apple Music’s Top 100 Albums Of All Time List

With the release of any ranked list, backlash is sure to follow. Apple Music’s top 100 albums of all time list is no exception. But, there’s one person that seems to be content with the streaming company’s opinion.

While Lauryn Hill‘s The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill secured the top spot, Frank Ocean’s Blonde wasn’t far off in the fifth slot. Despite users online’s push back, yesterday (May 24), the “Novacane” singer’s mother Katonya Breaux Riley publicly showed her support of his placement.

“This child sure knows how to make his momma proud,” she wrote. “I first said. ‘Wow, son, you are among the greats.’ But quickly retracted and said, ‘No, you are a GREAT!’ Here’s to my Frankie! 🥂🥂 ❤❤❤❤ #Blonde.”

The chart-topping project was revered at the time of its release. However, it appears things have changed in the nearly-decade following. To be clear, users aren’t upset that the body of work was mentioned, most so its ranking.

“Frank Ocean over Stevie Wonder,” wrote one user.

Not everyone disagreed. Many people have begun to rally behind Frank. “If you’re mad cause Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ is in the top 10 albums ever by Apple Music, you definitely have never listened to the album,” chimed another.

Frank Ocean doesn’t seem to have issued a statement about the recognition.

Keke Palmer & Darius Jackson Appear To Drop Domestic Violence Cases: Report

Keke Palmer and her ex-boyfriend, Darius Jackson, have reportedly dropped their domestic violence cases against one another, according to The Jasmine Brand. The two were scheduled to appear in court on July 16, 2024, but the outlet notes that the hearing is no longer on the docket. Palmer initially filed her lawsuit in 2023 while providing testimony, pictures, and footage as evidence to detail the alleged abuse.

In her initial filing, she claimed that Jackson “trespassed” into her home on November 5, and “threatened me, then physically attacked me — lunging for my neck, striking me, throwing me over the couch, and stealing my phone when I told him I was going to call the police.” In turn, the court awarded her a temporary restraining order. She also got sole custody of their son, Leodis “Leo” Adrellton.

The following month, Jackson fired back with a counter-lawsuit of his own, accusing Palmer of being the abusive one. He listed several alleged instances throughout their relationship while claiming she used both “physical and verbal abuse.” In January of this year, the two had a court date that was delayed to provide them time for “mediation in front of a private judge.” With the latest court date removed from the calendar, the status of the restraining order is unclear.

Pusha T Celebrates The 6th Anniversary Of His Classic Album “DAYTONA”

Pusha T is not one to “reminisce”, but he is doing just that by celebrating the sixth anniversary of DAYTONA. The third solo album for the Virginia Beach, Virginia native, it was also the first of five projects to be executively produced by the one and only Kanye West. It was a legendary summer for hip-hop heads in 2018, as Ye went on to release ye, NASIR, KIDS SEE GHOSTS, as well as K.T.S.E. Out of all of those releases you could make the argument for DAYTONA being the strongest of the bunch. The record began with perhaps one of the best and most memorable intros “If You Know You Know.”

It is a masterclass in coke rap, with King Push talking about the treacherous life of a drug dealer. Then, you have one of the nastiest boom-bap beats and sample flips on “The Games We Play.” Even though Push’s rapping performances were stellar across the board, the production from Kanye really helps sell each track. The middle of the tracklist is fantastic too, but of course no one can forget “Infared.”

Pusha T Fondly Remembers DAYTONA

“The game’s f***ed up / N****s’ beats is bangin’, n****, ya hooks did it / The lyric pennin’ equal the Trumps winnin’ / The bigger question is how the Russians did it / It was written like Nas, but it came from Quentin.” These fighting words restarted the beef between him and Drake, prompting him to respond with “Duppy Freestyle.” Of course, it then led to “The Story of Adidon,” which revealed that Drizzy was hiding his now-known son, Adonis. DAYTONA is certainly “the gift that keeps on giving.”
