You Can Now Buy Copies Of Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic’ Session Tapes For The Album’s 30th Anniversary

Earlier this year, Dr. Dre’s genre-defining album, The Chronic, returned to streaming services after being pulled in 2022 to sort out some ownership issues. While its return just barely missed out on the album’s 20th anniversary, the album’s creator isn’t letting the occasion go without celebration.

Fans looking for a physical product to celebrate the anniversary won’t be disappointed. Today, Interscope and Trophy announced “The Chronic Masters,” a series of collectibles commemorating the seismic shift caused by the album’s release. Included in the collection are replicas of the session tapes; a series of limited-edition prints of the tapes; and a series of skateboard decks bearing images of the session tapes and the album’s cover.

The runs are limited to 310 copies of each — a nod to the area code of Dre’s native Compton, California — although there are also oversized replica tapes in even more limited quantities; just 30 of each will be produced. You can find a few select images below and get more information about the drops at thechronicmasters.interscope.com.

The collection would be a worthy addition to a fan’s art collection — and, unlike NFTs, you can actually hold them in your hands. Meanwhile, another Dr. Dre production celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, is getting a different kind of celebration: A one-weekend engagement at the Hollywood Bowl.

Lizzo Wanted To ‘Quit Music And Just Disappear,’ But Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ Helped After Seeing ‘Mean Sh*t’ About Herself Online

Yesterday (May 31), Lizzo shared her frustrations about people online commenting about her size, specifically in response to one person who wrote, “How is Lizzo still THIS fat when she’s constantly moving this much on stage?! I wonder what she must be eating.” Now, she’s spoken more on the matter via TikTok.

A new video from Lizzo shared yesterday (May 31) starts with her walking on a treadmill as songs from Beyoncé’s Renaissance album play. After that, Lizzo says, “Today was one of those days where I was very angry, very angry at the world. Saw a lot of mean sh*t about me on the internet, and I wanted to give up. There are days where the hate outweighs the love so badly that I want to quit music and just disappear. I definitely have enough money to go and buy a farm and just never f*ck with anybody ever again, because f*ck everybody. Then, I reminded myself to get up, get out, and get some sun, and I put on Renaissance.”

Damon Elbert Takes His ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance To ‘New Levels’

Rising Seattle artist Damn Elbert wants to reach “New Levels,” and displays the potential to do just that with a new performance of his song for UPROXX Sessions. Blending the sounds of hip-hop and R&B with a pop sensibility, Elbert aims to make a name for himself with the help of Drakeo The Ruler‘s Stinc Team.

Elbert has appeared on a number of the LA-based group’s releases, including Drakeo’s final pre-humous album, The Truth Hurts and RalfyThePlug‘s 2022 project iHeartRalphy. Kanye West Has Allegedly Already Made A Staggering Amount From Yeezy Restock

Kanye West and Adidas had a very public falling out late in 2022. Overall, Adidas had no choice but to drop Kanye West as he was making some very anti-Semitic statements in the media. Moreover, Ye was making it apparent that he no longer wanted to be signed there. In the end, it just made sense to terminate the deal and cut some losses. However, Adidas was left with over $500 million in Yeezy stock and no one to sell it to. This subsequently led to a compromise that has now created a sell-off event.

Starting yesterday, Adidas started to roll out some Yeezy restocks for shoes that they had left in the vault. Overall, these releases have been incredibly successful for the brand. They have dropped off a ton of great shoes so far, and fans have been copping as many as they can. Of course, Kanye West is set to get a nice royalty from all of this, 15 percent to be exact. The account @kanyewestaurant_ has actually been keeping track of the numbers, and they are looking quite good for Ye.

Kanye West Yeezys By The Numbers

So far, over 680,000 pairs have been sold. Based on the price of these sneakers, it would appear as though Adidas has made themselves upwards of $170 million. Additionally, over $25 million of this will go to Kanye West himself. Much of the rest will go to various organizations that seek to combat racism and anti-Semitism. As it stands, there are still a couple of drops to go, which means Adidas will be able to recoup a whole more in the coming days. This is also good for Ye, who clearly would like to have some extra income right now.

There have been some great sneakers to return to the market. That said, don’t expect anymore Yeezys beyond this point. This was one final restock, and it will never happen again. If the designs do come back, they will come back without any trace of Yeezy branding. Let us know if you have copped anything from the restock, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the sneaker world.

Prosecutors Seek R. Kelly’s Funds Held By UMG And Sony Music

According to court documents, federal prosecutors have moved to seize property held by UMG and Sony Music, belonging to R. Kelly. They claim that money held by the companies could be used to help pay off victim restitutions as well as criminal fines, as he has a great deal of outstanding debt. Kelly currently owes his victims over $500,000 and has failed in making the appropriate payments, according to prosecutors. Their notice to Sony Music asks, “Whether the Garnishee has in its possession, custody or control any property of the Debtor, including non-exempt, disposable earnings.” R. Kelly is currently serving a total of 31 years in prison, for various charges including child pornography, sex trafficking, and other forms of abuse.

Last month, Kelly was transported from the Metropolitan Correctional Facility in Chicago to a medium-security facility in North Carolina, where he currently resides. Kelly’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, later commented on the move, stating, “He continues to suffer from health issues caused by medical negligence at the MCC Chicago.” She added, We are hopeful that [the new facility] will ensure that his medical needs are met.” R. Kelly also filed to appeal his crimes in April, citing issues he had with the jury that convicted him as well as various pieces of evidence that were submitted.

R. Kelly Owes His Victims

Timbaland also recently got slammed on social media for calling the convicted sex offender “the king of R&B.” Earlier this month, he told Shannon Sharpe of the Club Shay Shay podcast that he believes we should separate art from the artist when it comes to R. Kelly. “We all know that, man. And it’s funny, I’m glad you talk about that, because I be having talks- everybody jump when you say R. Kelly,” he explained.

Timbaland continued, “I’m like, ‘So we just gonna ignore his music that he gave us, that we all jam to?’ No, we can’t do that. His art is his art, I ain’t gonna bash the man’s art. Don’t mix music up with personal. Music is a feeling, it stands alone. Music is something that don’t have no race, it brings people together. It don’t have no drama with it. It is a place of enjoyment, a feeling, so don’t bring drama into music. Leave that outside.” One social media user called Timbaland’s take an “airhead comment.”

Lizzo: Empowering Body Acceptance & Redefining Pop Music

It’s not hard to see why Lizzo has quickly become a worldwide pop icon. Beyond her electric blend of pop, rap, and R&B, Lizzo’s radiating energy and bold style statements take over any stage she’s on. She first achieved mainstream success with Cuz I Love You, which peaked at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200 in 2019. Additionally, the Grammy-winning multi-hyphenate is also working on curating a stellar career in the film world. She’s appeared on Hustlers and UglyDolls while also hosting Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls series. Lizzo is hard-nosed in her beliefs and image, a strong personality curated from living through hard times. Pursuing a career in music after college, she lived out of her car for a year.

Lizzo’s take on the body positivity movement isn’t the copy-and-paste narrative the media makes the message out to be. While she supports body positivity, she’s more interested in people accepting and embracing themselves for who they are. In her first Vogue cover, she noted, “What I don’t like is how the people that this term was created for are not benefiting from it. Girls with back fat, girls with bellies that hang, girls with thighs that aren’t separated, that overlap. Girls with stretch marks. You know, girls who are in the 18-plus club. They need to be benefiting from…the mainstream effect of body positivity now. But with everything that goes mainstream, it gets changed. It gets–you know, it gets made acceptable.”

Lizzo’s Style Is Inspiring A Generation Of Female Artists

Lizzo makes it a point to be the main topic of conversation at any event she attends. However, this isn’t from an egotistical viewpoint. While her flamboyant fashion statements reflect her vibrant personality, her sleeveless Versace gown is also an under-toned statement that she’s here to stay. She’s faced her fair share of detractors over the years, with many arguing that her steadfastness regarding body acceptance is unhealthy. Lizzo convinces a new generation of women artists that success doesn’t require fitting in with Hollywood guidelines regarding body image. Her influence will likely be more apparent a decade into the future.

Pop music, and, well, mainstream music in general, has emphasized sexuality in tandem with rising artists who are women. A woman’s body is often used as a means to garner higher charting numbers. While (of course) there is no issue in expressing sexuality or femininity as a creative, Lizzo is simply looking to change the perception regarding what can be marketable. She’s tired of her love of her body being the topic of her relevancy rather than her music. She took to social media to vent her anger on May 31. She retweeted a hateful post, adding, “It’s really starting to make me hate the world. Then someone in the comments said I eat ‘lots of fast food’ I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO… I’m tired of explaining myself all the time and I just wanna get on this app w/out seeing my name in some bullsh*t.”

Her Theatrical Sound Is Changing Pop

Of course, Lizzo’s influence on the music industry goes beyond discussions surrounding body acceptance. Simply put, her music is smashing the charts for a good reason. Lizzo has further dissolved the gap between singing and speaking. She seamlessly bounces from one to the other, combining her childhood influences into a somehow cohesive sound. In fact, Lizzo’s first love when growing up in Houston, Texas, was rap. She was writing slapping rap verses before she even discovered her vocal talent. Lizzo’s style mirrors that of an epic musical theatre, featuring larger-than-life vocal falsettos and burgeoning jazz horns. Complicated and joyful in nature, she’s ushering pop into a new era. Regarding Special, she told Apple Music, “I felt like this was what not only I needed to hear, but you needed to hear, and the whole world needs to hear.”

Lizzo has a unique ability to create songs that are both dense and simplistic at the same time. It’s a quality that mixes well with the internet, with harmonically catchy choruses fitting into the world of TikTok or Instagram. On the other hand, her lyricism is in-depth enough for deeper listeners to enjoy her sound. That wide array of consumption has garnered her one of the largest audiences in music. She currently sits above 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. In addition, she catches a wide variety of influences with her sound. Darting from Daft Punk-infused funk to meeting Cardi B’s energy on the banger “Rumors,” her unpredictable sonic directions mirror her willingly chaotic and outspoken life.

Boston Celtics Not Looking To Replace Joe Mazzulla

It’s already been a whirlwind of an offseason in terms of coaching changes in the NBA. The Bucks, Raptors, Rockets, Pistons, Sixers, and Suns have all moved on from their head coaches. At the time of writing, only the Raptors and Suns are yet to announce a new head coach.

However, many were speculating as to whether Boston Celtics would join the coaching hunt. Despite entering the playoffs as the second seed, the Celtics never played like a second seed. They needed six games to beat the Hawks, and seven to eliminate the Sixers. Then, they found themselves in a 0-3 hole to begin in the Eastern Conference Finals. Despite miraculously tying the series at 3-3, the Celtics were embarrassingly blown out in Game 7. This led to further speculation that head coach Mazzulla might be looking for a new job.

Stevens Backs Mazzulla

“He’s a terrific leader, he’ll only get better at anything that he can learn from this year, because he’s constantly trying to learn. And he’s accountable. Those leadership qualities are hard to find. I know they’re easy to talk about, but when you can show all those through the expectations and the microscope that he was under, that’s hard to do,” Celtics GM Brad Stevens told reporters. “Our players, our staff, everybody around him believe(s) in him, and we’ve got to do our best to support him going forward. Yeah, I think he is (the best head coach for this team),” Stevens said. “I thought he did a really good job with this group. Everybody’s going to overreact to the best players and coaches after every game. That’s always the way it is. We know that going in, so we have to be able to judge things on the whole.”

However, it also came out Thursday that a number of Boston assistants will be leaving to join former head coach Ime Udoka in Houston. “First of all, Joe’s experience now, you can probably measure in dog years, right?” Stevens said. “Because now he’s been in three Eastern Conference Finals and an (NBA ) Finals, and he’s been now the head coach throughout one of those runs. I mean, that’s an experience in and of itself,” Stevens argued. However, he did also note that the team would hire “at least one” new assistant.
