El DeBarge Arrested and Charged with Drugs and Weapon Possession

El DeBarge has been arrested for drug and weapons possession at a Burbank gas station.

According to TMZ, El DeBarge was arrested at 3:40 a.m. on Sunday. Standing at a gas station, El DeBarge garnered the attention of officers due to expired tags on his car. As officers approached his car, an expandable metal baton was seen inside.

The baton is considered an illegal weapon, leading to a full search of his vehicle, leading to the discovery of pepper spray and suspected narcotics, believed to be heroin.

Making the situation worse, El DeBarge did not have a valid driver’s license.

El DeBarge was charged with possession of a leaded cane or baton, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

DeBarge was released on a $25,000 bond and will be in court in March.

Where’s All The Rap At Coachella 2023?

The 2023 Coachella lineup has been announced and among some truly historical moments — the lineup features both the first K-pop girl group and Latin music headliners, cementing both genres’ rising prominence in the American pop cultural landscape — one question hangs over everything else: Where are all the rap artists?

To be certain, rap has been a fixture at the festival, even though it started out as a rock-centric event, for the past few years. I’ve written about it a few times, including last year, when the festival returned after a two-year hiatus caused by COVID-19. Coachella added its first rap headliner with Jay-Z in 2010, and since then, Outkast, Eminem, Drake, Dr. Dre with Snoop Dogg, and Outkast have all delivered iconic moments (Travis Scott, billed to perform in 2020, was removed from the 2022 lineup when the event returned in the wake of his disastrous Astroworld Festival in 2021).

In 2022 alone, rap music dominated the lineup, from stars like Doja Cat, Lil Baby, and Megan Thee Stallion in the second line, to up-and-coming acts City Girls, Denzel Curry, JID, and Vince Staples peppered throughout the three biggest stages. This year, hip-hop barely cracked the second line, limited to a handful of big-name acts like A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie (whose name was shortened for space), Pusha T, and hitmaker Metro Boomin. Hip-hop is technically still the most popular genre in the world, so what gives?

However, scratching the surface might actually present one of the more interesting opportunities for some lesser-known names to climb the marquees of other festivals throughout the year and gain the sort of recognition that can see their tour venue caps jump up a level if they play their cards right. For one thing, there are the underground and indie favorites, many of whom Uproxx has covered pretty extensively as they built a buzz just below radar level. Those would be your AG Clubs, IDKs, and Tobe Nwigwes, the artists whose fans won’t shut up about them, even as they have yet to truly gain a toehold on the pop charts.

It looks like Noname is making her return to the Coachella stage after threatening retirement, while Doechii, GloRilla, Flo Milli, and Latto’s presences are making this year’s hip-hop offerings at Coachella something a women’s empowerment forum — something the rap scene sorely needs after the latter half of 2022 devolved into a maelstrom of counterproductive bickering among the top names.

Meanwhile, with producers like Kaytranada and Metro Boomin near the top of the bill, surprises could abound. Metro Boomin is almost certain to bring along the usual assortment of collaborators, the possibilities of which range from Atlanta trap mainstays like 21 Savage and the surviving Migos members to a potential impromptu ASAP Rocky sub-headlining set fueled by their extensive collaboration on Don’t Be Dumb. Kaytranada’s work with everyone from Anderson .Paak to IDK to Phonte Coleman to his own brother Louie Phelps could see him joined on stage by a who’s-who of some of rap’s most respected. Kenny Beats is up there too, opening the doors for Rico Nasty, Zack Fox, and many, many more to shock fans with unannounced cameos.

Even the Gorillaz, whose work has defied categorization for nearly 20 years, has a Rolodex of rappers ranging from the newly liberated De La Soul and other ’90s mainstays like Bootie Brown, Del The Funky Homosapien, Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey), and Snoop Dogg, to British grime breakouts like Slowthai and Octavian (as well as contemporary faves Danny Brown, Little Simz, Schoolboy Q, Vince Staples, and more). So while the big names in hip-hop might well be taking a break from the desert this year, there will be just as many opportunities for discovery and the possiblity of more surprise appearances that might drop as many fans’ jaws as bars.

Bad Bunny Will Become Coachella’s First-Ever Latin Artist To Headline The Festival

There’s just no stopping Latin superstar Bad Bunny. If fans thought they saw a lot of the rapper/singer in 2022, they might want to brace themselves for what’s coming in 2023. After weeks of speculation, it has finally been confirmed that the “Tití Me Preguntó” rapper will headline Coachella this year on Friday, April 14, and Friday, April 21. This makes the musician the first-ever Latin artist to do so.

At this point, it is probably easier to list what he hasn’t accomplished. As there’s a long laundry list of accolades or historical achievements under his belt, including being the most nominated Latin artist at the 2023 Grammy Awards, breaking the Disney film Encanto soundtrack’s Billboard record for the most weeks logged, being the first Latin artist named artist of the year by Apple Music, and more.

Other Latin artists on the lineup include Becky G, Rosalía, Kali Uchis, Eladio Carrión, and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.

Quavo Was Pumped To Smoke A Cigar On The Field In Celebration Of The Georgia Bulldogs’ Championship Win

Music and sports go hand and hand. However, in hip-hop, the connection runs much deeper. Rapper Drake often gets into social media beef because of his diehard support for his hometown basketball team, the Toronto rappers. Lil Wayne was invited on ESPN to comment on a football match. Now, “Hotel Lobby” rapper, Quavo was spotted in the crowd during the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Although the match-up was held in Inglewood, California, the former Migos member didn’t let that stop him from rooting on his home state’s Georgia Bulldogs as they went up against the TCU Horned Frogs. After the Bulldogs snatched the win with a 65-to-7 blowout, while joining in on the fun taking place on the field, the musician took a moment to remember his late nephew and group member Takeoff, who was senselessly murdered in November, saying, “Long live the Rocket.” Rocket is a nickname, Takeoff earned for his unique rapping abilities.

The rapper took his celebration further, lighting a cigar on the field.

Quavo isn’t the only former Migos to put his home state pride on full display. Just before Christmas, rapper Offset was given the key to Gwinnett County in his hometown of Lawrenceville, Georgia, for his community outreach efforts during his inaugural Offset Toy Giveaway Day.

Chloë Bailey Discusses Her Upcoming Album

Chloë Bailey recently sat down with Complex to discuss her upcoming album in an interview published on Monday. The project will be her official debut solo studio album.

As for what lessons she’s learned during the making of the project, she told the outlet: “The biggest lesson I’ve learned has been to trust my gut and to trust the timing.”

Thus far, Chloë has released several singles that could end up making the tracklist. She says that her relationship with Gunna inspired her latest song, “For The Night,” a collaboration with Latto.

“Every single song on that project stems from my own experiences,” she explained before adding, “‘Have Mercy’ stemmed from my being sad. I was responding to haters. That is where that song came from. The single ‘Treat Me’ came from reminding myself that if there is something I want out of a man, I have to give it to myself first.”

Chloë further continued: “The song ‘Surprise’ came from, you know—it’s OK to feel a little sexy sometimes. I let that side come out of me with those lyrics. Now, I have released ‘For the Night.’ Every song I have is personal. It has been so much fun collaborating with such incredible song makers. I am happy people are getting more and more of me.”

While she didn’t give away any other collaborations to expect on the project, Chloë says there’s still a lot more to be revealed.

“Yes, absolutely!” she said. “There are a lot of exciting features and collaborations to look forward to. I cannot wait to say more and put it into the world.”

Fredo Bang Welcomes Newborn Child With Lesbian Couple

Fredo Bang is a father of two after allegedly welcoming children with a lesbian couple.

The Baton Rouge rapper unveiled adorable photos of his two children on Instagram this week. As many fans congratulated him on fatherhood, many were undoubtedly curious about the child’s mother. Internet sleuths quickly began digging and discovered that a lesbian couple with a massive online following have been sharing photos of the same children on their IG profile.

Needless to say, people had questions about the “Don’t Miss” rapper’s children, as well as the mother. The couple, Annie and Sevyn Buffins apparently stated that the children were conceived through IVF. However, some wondered if Fredo was the father of both children or just the newborn. Annie later shared a comment revealing that she and Sevyn used IUI for their child, Parker.

“So lemme get this straight… you think Fredo & Sevyn made Parker? We did do IUI.” She wrote. “We never lied. We just never said how Payton came about. Kept that to myself until I was ready. Now I’m wrong for doing what was best for me lmao gah damn,” she added in response to a homophobic comment.

Thus far, Fredo Bang hasn’t responded to any of the commentary surrounding his newborn child.

The Baton Rouge rapper closed out 2022 on a high note. Following years of feuding, he and NBA Youngboy squashed their beef for a better cause. Just before Christmas, they hosted a holiday giveaway for the kids in their area. Prior to that, the dropped his single “Double Dutch,” which has certainly gained some momentum in the past few weeks.

We’ll keep you posted on anymore updates regarding Fredo Bang and the mother of his child(ren).
