Slimelife Shawty Comes Through With New Single “No Brakes”

Atlanta’s own Slimelife Shawty, who recently inked a deal with Lil Durk’s Only The Family records, has recently dropped off his brand new single “No Brakes.” Opting to hold it down on the solo front, Slimelife takes to a melancholic piano trap banger and fires off two verses worth of wrath and retribution. “I’ma let this cutta ride, I’ma shoot up how ’em killed my man and how my brothers died,” he raps. “Turn me up, don’t turn me down, fuck the other side, they just other guys.”

There’s something deeply honest about his approach, which gives Slimelife Shawty’s “No Brakes” a welcome authenticity. Stylistically, Shawty’s brutal depictions of street life are given deeper subtext by the pain evident in his voice. Yet as he tells it, the pain only served to turn his heart cold. “Them n**as forget me in, I know they lesson learned,” he raps, turning his back without flinching. “I know they feelings hurt, I know they heart burned.”

Check out “No Brakes” now, and sound off if you’re eager for more from Slimelife Shawty.

Travis Scott Launches New Spiked Seltzer CACTI

The wait is officially over. Ragers, if you’ve been counting down the days until getting to try Travis Scott’s brand new spiked seltzer beverage CACTI for the first time, the all-important launch date is finally upon us and CACTI is available in stores.

For months, Travis Scott has been teasing the launch of his new spiked seltzer beverage. Titled CACTI, the brand has already been hyped up in his lyrics and with high-budget commercials, one of which premiered during the Grammy Awards last night. The first-ever TV spot for CACTI, starring the hilarious Eric Andre, aired on Sunday night. Mere hours later, the product is officially available in stores.

The new beverage is a partnership with Anheuser-Busch and it marks a priority for both Travis and his partners for the long-term. It is launching with three different flavors: Pineapple, Strawbetter, and Lime. The 7% ABV seltzer made with 100% premium blue agave from Mexico.

“Finally getting CACTI out into the world and into the hands of fans is a surreal moment for me and the team,” said La Flame about the launch. “This has been something I had a strong vision for and have wanted to do for a while. It was important to me to be heavily involved in the entire creative process; from the flavor obviously, to the can design, packaging and the entirety of the brand world we’ve built. I sought to create a beverage brand that was unlike others in the market. Our Agave Spiked Seltzer is super refreshing and smooth, and the brand in general is something that I’m super proud of. We built this project from the ground up together and this is just the beginning.”

Watch the new commercial above and check out CACTI wherever you normally buy beverages.

Tom Brady Reacts To Drew Brees’ Retirement

Drew Brees is one of the most legendary quarterbacks in the entire NFL. On Sunday, he decided to announce his retirement from the sport and since that time, a plethora of tributes and kind words have been pouring in. After bringing a Super Bowl to New Orleans, Brees has earned his status as one of the best to ever do it, even if he faltered a bit in his final few years.

Throughout his time in the NFL, Brees has had numerous great battles against Tom Brady, and the two have mutual respect for one another. In fact, after Brees’ announcement yesterday, Brady decided to take to Twitter where he congratulated Brees on a great career, all while explaining how the QB inspired him.

“Congrats my friend on an incredible career. Thank you for the inspiration and dedication on and off the field! Look forward to seeing what’s next @drewbrees,” Brady wrote.

Brady is getting up there in age as well although unlike Brees, he doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of decline. It remains to be seen when Brady will hang up his cleats, but coming off of a Super Bowl, it’s unlikely he’ll make that decision anytime soon.

Beyoncé Breaks All-Time Grammy Record

Everybody is talking about who didn’t win at last night’s 2021 Grammy Awards. The world is frustrated about Freddie Gibbs losing out on Best Rap Album (albeit being overjoyed for Nas at the same time), confused about Doja Cat walking away with zero recognition on the awards front, and more. Of course, the stunning snub of The Weeknd has also continued to dominate social media attention. While there were a number of deserving artists that probably should have walked away with some life-changing hardware on Sunday night, let’s celebrate those that did end up making history. Namely, Beyoncé.

The world-famous singer stepped into last night’s event as the most-nominated person on the show. She had earned nine nominations in total and, at the end of the night, she won enough awards to put her in the lead as the woman with the most Grammy wins in the history of the ceremony, also tying the record for the living person with the most Grammys.

Beyoncé won four prizes on Sunday night, including Best R&B Performance for “Black Parade”, Best Music Video for “Brown Skin Girl”, and Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for her feature on Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage”. With those wins, Beyoncé broke the record for the most Grammy wins by a woman, passing Alison Krauss, who previously held the record. She also ties Quincy Jones as the living person with the most Grammys with 28.

While Beyoncé’s big wins marked huge moments for her, she was likely more excited about her daughter Blue Ivy Carter’s first Grammy win, which also took place last night. Blue Ivy won her first Grammy award, becoming the second-youngest winner ever.

Congratulations to Beyoncé and The Carters on such an outstanding achievement.

Conway The Machine Teases Benny The Butcher Collab Album

Conway The Machine has already put in work this year, having recently released his second collaboration album with Big Ghost LTD If If Bleeds It Can Be Killed. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg, as Machine is still sitting on the release of his anticipated Shady Records debut God Don’t Make Mistakes, set to arrive at some point later this year. While that’s already a prolific output, Conway has been known to push his pace even further, so don’t be surprised if the Griselda lyricist lines his calendar with even more surprises.

Case in point, Conway recently took to Twitter to stoke hype with the reveal that a collaborative album with Benny The Butcher may or may not be in the works. After a fan requested that it manifest, Machine himself slid through with a promising update, indicating that it would be coming “soon, real soon.” Of course, that’s far from a concrete confirmation of its existence, though it does seem as if it’s something that both rappers have been considering. Given their Griselda connection — not to mention an actual blood relation — it does feel like it’s only a matter of time.

At this point in time, however, consider this to be purely speculative. It wouldn’t be the first time Conway has teased a mysterious album, having recently stoked the narrative that he, Eminem, and Alchemist were collaborating on a secret project. As per usual, patience is advised — though the time for Griselda dominance is certainly looming. Look for Benny The Butcher’s Plugs I Met 2 to drop this coming Friday, and stay tuned for further updates on what Conway has been readying.

Drew Brees Reveals His Next Venture

Drew Brees is officially a retired man as yesterday, he came out and announced that he would no longer be playing in the NFL. It’s a decision that many saw coming especially after the last few disappointing playoff campaigns. Regardless, Brees had a legendary career and there is no doubt that he will be a first-ballot Hall Of Famer when his eligibility comes around.

Today, Brees announced his next venture, which is one that should not be much of a surprise. Now, Brees will become an analyst for NBC Sports. He will be on the “Football Night In America” team and will also get to be a part of Super Bowl broadcasts, as well as the Olympics. He’ll even get to do some College Football work with Notre Dame.

“We’re excited to have Drew join our team,” NBC Sports Group chairman Pete Bevacqua said. “We know that Drew will apply the same work ethic and continuously positive attitude to everything he touches at NBC Sports and we know, as his new teammates, he’ll make us better.”

Most retired quarterbacks end up in the broadcast booth so this next step in his life only makes sense. Brees has a ton of experience that he will bring to the booth, and we can’t wait to see him on TV.

Nicki Minaj & Doja Cat Draw Comparisons On Twitter After Grammy Snub

Nicki Minaj didn’t perform at last night’s Grammy Awards. The rapper was not present at the event, having no affiliation with the ceremony whatsoever. Still, she’s trending after last night’s celebration of music as the Barbs speak out after years of snubs for the legendary ground-breaking rapper.

Back in November of last year, Nicki Minaj lashed out at the Recording Academy about her loss in the Best New Artist category in 2012, saying this on the anniversary of her record-breaking album Pink Friday. “Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation,” she complained. “They gave it to the white man Bon Iver.”

Last night, many believe that parallels have started to arise between Nicki and Doja Cat’s careers. Much like Nicki did numerous times in her career, Doja Cat had the charts on lock this past year. And while she was recognized by the Recording Academy, she ultimately left the 2021 Grammy Awards without a single win. Of course, she had her time to shine on the stage, delivering one of the most electrifying performances of the night. But still, fans of both artists have started to defend Doja Cat online, especially after she tweeted-and-deleted her praise for Nicki.

The industry is starting to treat Doja Cat like how they treat Nicki Minaj and I don’t like it,” argued one fan on Twitter, getting nearly five thousand likes. “She literally dominated all of 2020 and what did these b*tches pay her???? NOTHING.”

It’s a sentiment that many are feeling after Doja lost all of her categories last night.

Even though Nicki Minaj wasn’t there, she’s still being talked about, and that much speaks to her staying power in the music industry. The legend just keeps on powering through.

Do you think Doja Cat deserved to win last night? And is she getting the “Nicki Minaj treatment”?
