Fivio Foreign Is “Unruly” On His Upbeat New Single

Yesterday, reports surfaced that Fivio Foreign had reportedly been arrested in New Jersery while carrying a loaded handgun with a scrubbed-off serial number. His reported charges include the possession of a firearm for unlawful purposes, resisting arrest, the possession of a defaced firearm, the possession of a firearm without the required permit, and more.

While fans continue to wait for more developments regarding Fivio Foreign‘s recent legal troubles, the rising New York artist and 2020 XXL Freshman has treated fans with a new single, titled “Unruly.”

Produced by Nils and Kenny Beats, “Unruly” offers a new horn-driven take on the buzzing Brooklyn Drill genre and finds Fivio Foreign in his element, spitting spaced-out, yet energetic lines that fit perfectly over the upbeat production. Throughout the single, Fivio sprinkles in some pretty clever and humorous lines, including a reference to Drake’s 2020 smash hit “Toosie Slide” and a comical bar in which he avidly requests the Illuminati’s phone number.

“Unruly” also arrived alongside a crisp music video that’s undoubtedly inspired by Lil Wayne’s classic visuals for “A Milli.” Check out the music video for Fivio Foreign new single “Unruly” below.

H.E.R. Hypes Upcoming Album With Tracklist Teaser

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from acclaimed singer H.E.R, with her last album having arrived in 2019 with “I Used To Know Her.” Following its release, the project went on to secure several Grammy nominations (including Album Of The Year) and a couple of wins for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Album. Suffice it to say, the bar is relatively high for the young California melodist, who has been hard at work shaping her upcoming follow-up effort.

While we have yet to receive much in the way of concrete details surrounding the project, H.E.R recently took to Twitter to get the ball rolling on a rollout of sorts. Confirming the title to be Back Of My Mind, H.E.R. began by teasing a few of the upcoming song titles, which include “We Made It” and “Back Of My Mind.”

Alas, that’s about all she opted to share, leaving the album’s length and guest appearances ambiguous. It should be noted that the singer recently released a single from the album in “Come Through,” which finds her uniting with Chris Brown for an intimate guitar-driven duet.

At this stage, we’ll have to keep an eye out and see the pace with which she continues to lift the curtain on the tracklist. For now, confirmed guests appear limited to Chris Brown, though it’s likely that will change as more pieces of the Back Of My Mind puzzle are revealed. Be sure to check out her recent single for a taste of what’s to come, and sound off if you’re excited to hear a new album from H.E.R before the year is done.

Caitlyn Jenner Is Officially Running For Governor Of California

Keeping Up With The Kardashians is currently running its 20th and final season, and Caitlyn Jenner, one of the show’s recurring cast members, is already setting her signs on what she’ll do next. After slamming Joe Rogan and calling him “homophobic” and “transphobic,”  Caitlyn Jenner has decided to bring her passion for tackling societal issues to the political arena. Today, the television personality has confirmed that she has submitted the necessary paperwork and will officially be running as a Republican for the governor of California.

Declaring “I’m in!” and “#RecallNewsom” in her most recent tweet, Caitlyn Jenner also shared a press release that fully explained the celebrity’s decision to run for governor of California.

“California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality,” she writes in her press release. “But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision.”

Jenner continues, saying, “I have been a compassionate disrupter throughout my life, from representing the United States and winning a gold medal at the Olympics to helping advance the movement for equality. As Californians, we face a now-or-never opportunity to fundamentally fix our state before it’s too late. I am a proven winner and the only outsider who can put an end to Gavin Newsom’s disastrous time as governor.”

Further down in the press release, Jenner criticizes current California Governor Gavin Newsom further, saying, “This isn’t the California we know. This is Gavin Newsom’s California, where he orders us to stay home but goes out to dinner with his lobbyist friends. The significance of this decision is not lost on me. The sacrifice is significant, but responsibility is great, and I can’t wait to lead, to help and most importantly to disrupt the status quo once again.”

Lastly, the press release also reveals that a formal announcement will follow in the coming weeks. Caitlyn Jenner isn’t the first person in her family to run for public office, as we saw during the 2020 presidential election with Kanye West. However, her bid for governor of California already appears to be far more organized and legitimate.

For those who are based in California, will you be casting a vote for Caitlyn Jenner in the anticipated recall election?

Ice Cube Shares Shock G Tribute Message

Last night, it was revealed that Shock G, a member of legendary crew Digital Underground also known as Humpty Hump, passed away at the age of 57. The news was shared by his group member Chopmaster J, who shared a few words on the death of his friend and collaborator.

“34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some,” Chopmaster J wrote in an Instagram tribute. “And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!! #digitalunderground.”

In addition to many of his peers in the hip-hop community, Ice Cube took a moment to offer a few words honoring the fallen Digital Underground icon. “RIP Shock-G/Humpty Hump,” captions Cube, alongside a nostalgic picture of himself, 2Pac Shakur (who actually made his recording debut on Digital Underground’s “Same Song”), and the members of Digital Underground backstage.

“I remember when NWA’s road manager Atron said he had a group called Digital Underground,” continues Cube, taking a trip down memory lane. “He played DOWHATCHALIKE video & I went crazy. I had to sample DU on JACKIN FOR BEATS and WHO’S THE MACK. And nobody had a better stage show. A true Bay Area original.”

At this moment, a cause of death has yet to be revealed. It was stated by Nzazi Malonga, who worked as the group’s head of security and  manager, that he was found unresponsive in a Tampa hotel room. We at HNHH would like to extend our condolences to Shock G’s family during this difficult time. Rest in peace to one of hip-hop’s early innovators.

Usher Discusses His Infamous ‘Usher Bucks’ And His Las Vegas Residency

A couple weeks ago, Usher went viral after it was alleged that he paid a stripper with fake money that had his face on it. It was later reported that he didn’t actually do that, but rather, he and his team were just leaving the phony bills around town to promote his upcoming Las Vegas residency. Now, in a new interview with Billboard, Usher has discussed the now-infamous “Usher Bucks.”

Usher spoke about how the fake money is part of his broader promotional campaign, saying:

“The idea behind Usher Bucks was really as a way of promoting the residency. And since then, there has been more conversations, thus proving roads lead to Las Vegas. Stay tuned. We’ve been working on the merchandise for the night and that was the start of it. […] I have a really great team, behind the scenes and on the stage putting together the show promoting the show, coming up with ideas of how to promote the show and market the merchandising. A lot of great detail and thought has gone into the experience. From the moment you walk into the Coliseum to the moment you leave the Coliseum we’re going to definitely make it an environment to enjoy, experience, and celebrate.”

He also spoke about his residency, saying it will feature a live band and fresh choreography. He added, “The anticipation is beautiful. I want you to guess. I want to keep you bubbling with anticipation until I have dropped the first record and you hear the first moment. When the lights go down and you feel the energy. I promise the classics and also new stuff. It’s about celebrating the years about celebrating the records, and celebrating the ones that brought us all together. And also to introduce new ones.”

Lil Yachty & Sada Baby Go Crazy On “SB 2021”

Today, Lil Yachty finally dropped Michigan Boy Boat, and the 14-track mixtape is a bonafide love letter to Michigan Hip-Hop. Several Detroit natives and rappers spread across the state of Michigan are featured on the tape, including Tee Grizzley, Veeze, Baby Smoove, Louie Ray, RMC Mike, Icewear Vezzo, Rio Da Yung OG, Babyface Ray, Sada Baby, Baby Tron, Krispy Life Kidd, and Slap Savage, among others.

Of all of the artists featured, Sada Baby makes several appearances on Michigan Boy Boat, with electrifying guest verses on “SB 2021” and “SB5.” While both are intriguing in their own right, the former of the two finds both Sada and Yachty going off on an energetic beat produced by Carlo Anthony.

The end result is equally chaotic and entertaining. Once again, Lil Yachty steps out of his comfort zone to give his best take on another Hip-Hop region’s signature style, and although Sada Baby sounds way more at home in his element, “SB 2021” is still an unforgettable, even if uncomfortable, listening experience.

Check out Lil Yachty and Sada Baby’s adrenaline-fueled collaboration “SB 2021” below and let us know if you’re feeling the Atlanta and Detroit rappers’ chemistry.

Quotable Lyrics

Only be with gang, don’t like nobody where I’m from
Ain’t got no friends in my bity, b*tch quit actin’ dumb
Be with my brothers not no others, I ain’t got no love
We do numbers every summer, that’s why we got guns
I still make a ton

Alchemist Enlists Earl Sweatshirt & Navy Blue On “Nobles”

Though you might have heard that lyricism is no longer prevalent in today’s rap scene, in reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth. There remain plenty of emcees and producers dedicated to keeping the spirit of hip-hop traditionalism alive, and Alchemist has been among those steadily leading the charge. Today, Al came through to drop off his new single “Nobles,” enlisting Earl Sweatshirt and Navy Blue for the assist.

As the backdrop, Alc opts to pull back and let the sample capture an atmosphere, an exercise in minimalism that may be an acquired taste to some. Yet Earl and Navy Blue are no strangers to such instrumentals, and both parties effortlessly float as they trade bars over the triumphant loop. “Depths of the man that I was from the start, stay next to the fam, got a place in my heart chest,” begins Blue, before Earl tags in to continue the scheme. “The rest of the plan got scrapped when I landed, invested in arts,” spits Sweatshirt. “I do less when I stretch before I hit the bar.”

Set to be included as part of Alchemist’s upcoming EP This Thing Of Ours (April 30th), “Nobles” should bring joy to anyone who appreciates the art of lyricism. Check it out for yourself now, and stay tuned for more news on the producer’s upcoming musical endeavors.

Thousand-yard stare, I was looking sauced

JMSN Is Back With “Rolling Stone”

JMSN has existed in a music space in one form or another for more than fifteen years. Nonetheless, it was when the Michigan-raised artist transitioned to his ‘JMSN’ moniker, circa 2011-2012, and was released from his Motown Records contract, that it appeared he truly found himself and his sound– resulting in his debut album, Priscilla, which itself is a timeless album that you could easily still release (and replay!) today, now almost ten years later.

We’ve been keeping tabs on JMSN for awhile, then. We’ve spoken to him over the years about his musical evolution, one which has continued to explore new sounds with each body of work the multi-hyphenate releases (it’s worth noting he also plays many an instrument). And while JMSN had been in the habit of releasing at least one project per year–whether that be an EP or an album– in recent years, his absence has been felt. The singer-slash-produce, who also founded his own label, White Room Records, hasn’t released new music for basically two years now. He released his last album, the funky-soothing stylings of Velvet, back in 2018, and following that, in 2019, we received an album titled Live Atwater Village, which featured fan favorites recorded live. The thirst for new music from the under-the-radar singer, then, is pretty dire at this point.

Today, we’ve been satiated – finally – with the release of “Rolling Stone.” JMSN previously teased the release of the song on his socials, although he’s not too active on twitter or Instagram, he seems to have started a JMSN Discord for those fans who need more information. Hopefully this new release means the next era of JMSN has arrived. And as far as what it’ll hold, if “Rolling Stone” is any indication, JMSN is still in a r’n’b space, albeit one that’s infused with jazz and funk, creating an altogether warm feeling.

Take a listen and let us know if you’ve missed JMSN. You can catch an acoustic performance JMSN did back in our NY office five years ago below, and if you need more r’n’b jams in your life, check out our R&B SEASON playlist.

Yelawolf & DJ Muggs Connect For “Mile Zero”

In the midst of a genuine musical onslaught, Yelawolf has officially dropped off the third of four new albums. Following the RiFF RAFF-assisted TURQUOiSE TORNADO and the DJ Paul-assisted SlumafiaYela has connected with the legendary DJ Muggs for Mile Zero, a project that finds Yelawolf paying homage to his hip-hop roots over sample-based production. It’s a notably refreshing move from Catfish Billy, whose chops as a formidable emcee are effectively highlighted by Muggs’ grimy and raw production.

That’s not to say Yela hasn’t been spitting of late, as his previous three releases have found him rapping like a man possessed. Yet there’s something to said about Mile Zero, which feels closer to some of the single-producer underground drops that Alchemist has been lacing of late. For one, it puts Yela’s penmanship and performative chops on full display, and the Alabama rapper seems to revel in the prospect of donning the backpack for old time’s sake.

Over Muggs’ dusty minimalism, Yela navigates over pockets with practiced ease. On “Flea Market,” Yela unleashes a seemingly endless barrage of bars for several minutes straight. “Matador” reimagines Blacksheep in a different light, as Yela and Caskey deftly try their hand at nostalgic boom-bap. Though featuring guest appearances from B-Real, Del The Funky Homosapien, Caskey, and DJ Paul, Mile Zero shines on the strength of its leading men, who forged impressive and unexpected chemistry deep into their respective careers.

Be sure to check out Yelawolf and DJ Muggs’ Mile Zero, and sound off with your comments below.
