Lou Williams was traded to the Atlanta Hawks yesterday in a massive deal that brought Rajon Rondo to Los Angeles. Virtually no one in the NBA was expecting a deal like this to go down although in the end, it happened and both teams are better off for it. Despite all of this, it appears as though Williams felt slighted by the trade, and almost retired from the game of basketball as a whole.
In a recent post to Instagram, Williams said he poured a lot of heart into the Clippers organization and the trade felt disrespectful. After receiving a ton of praise and support from his fans, Williams had a change of heart and noted that he wants to make the most of his time in Atlanta.
“Yea, so I thought about retiring yesterday. You give so much to an organization and you wake up and boom, it’s no more,” Williams wrote. “Then in true clipper nation fashion I was reminded that my talent and contribution was appreciated and It made me reflect on what’s to come. There’s plenty left in my tank and I’m privileged to continue my career in my backyard. LA, thank you. Love you. Appreciate you. Great times and memories!!! ATL, LouWillVille. Mr. Williams, welcome home.”
The Hawks are a work in progress but as it stands, they are firmly in a playoff spot which means Williams has an opportunity to help this team achieve some goals no one thought possible at the beginning of the year.
Today, Lil Nas X returned with his long-awaited pop-crossover “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” the Atlanta rapper’s first single since last November’s “HOLIDAY.” Along with the song, Lil Nas X also shared one of the most talked-about music videos in a while, since perhaps the highly suggestive “Throat Baby (Remix)” video from BRS Kash. In the clip archived by DJ Akademiks, Lil Nas X is seen pouring some champagne into one of his Grammy trophies before taking a much-deserved sip. Last year, Lil Nas X took home two Grammys thanks to the success of “Old Town Road,” one for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and another for Best Music Video. Now, according to Akademiks’ post, it appears that Lil Nas X is following in the recent footsteps of Blue Ivy Carter and celebrating his success by taking a drink from his esteemed Grammy trophy. By taking his victory sip, Lil Nas X has officially joined the ranks of Certified Love Boy artist Drake and Blue Ivy’s father Jay-Z as one of the rappers who have notably turned their Grammy awards into drinking cups.

In fact, this year marks the 10-year anniversary of one of Wiz’s most important albums to date: his 2011 major label debut Rolling Papers. Now, to celebrate the album’s milestone year, the Taylor Gang artist has a big surprise in store for fans.
Starting on the album’s anniversary on March 29, fans will be able to pre-order and pre-save a deluxe expanded version of the original Rolling Papers, which will include tracks never before released on DSPs, such as “Middle Of You,” “Stoned,” and “Taylor Gang.” In addition to the anniversary edition of Rolling Papers, fans will also be able to purchase limited edition vinyl with rare color variants, including blue vinyl with heavy splatter, green vinyl with a black smoke effect, and highlight yellow vinyl with a black smoke effect. The blue and green variants will be limited to 2,500 copies worldwide, and the highlighter yellow version will be exclusively available through Spotify.

In recent weeks, R&B legend Anita Baker has spent some time on Twitter sharing thoughts about her ongoing battle to take back control over her master recordings, which has apparently not gone in her favor so far. Now, Baker has found herself a supporter in Taylor Swift, who herself has famously had some legal drama about her own masters.
On March 9, Baker tweeted, “Miraculously… i have out-lived *ALL, of my Artists Contracts. They no longer ‘Own’, My Name & Likeness. And, by Law…30 yr old, Mstrs are 2B Returned, 2 Me. Unfortunately, They’re gonna make me Fight 4 it. I’m Prepared, 2 do that. Please Dont advertise/buy them ABXO.”
More recently, she gave props to Swift yesterday for how she handled her situation by re-recording her back catalog, writing, “Her creations bought & sold Again & Again, wouldnt even let her do *A Buy Out*…Taylor Swift *re-recording, her Catalog/Taylor’s Version. The GoodFight Go… Gurrrrl.” That got a response out of Swift, who wrote, “I’m cheering you on in your fight to get back your work, and appreciate your support so much!! Thank you.” Baker answered back, “This Solidarity is a Beautiful Thing! Thank You.”

Despite leading the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance just over a year ago, there has been a lot of talk around whether or not Jimmy Garoppolo is good enough to be the starter for the 49ers. Of course, the team mainly made the Super Bowl because of their defense and run-game, although Garoppolo still needed to be competent enough to make sure the team got where they needed to go.
Over these last few months, trade rumors have been circulating in regards to Garoppolo and after the 49ers traded up to the third overall pick today, there were even more rumblings that Jimmy G could be on the move. Now, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 49ers have said that Garoppolo is their man and they don’t plan on demoting him anytime soon.
These kinds of declarations are typically meaningless especially with the NFL Draft still a month away. Teams love to say one thing and do the complete opposite, so we’re sure Jimmy G is still feeling a bit worried heading into the next few weeks.
After a disappointing season in 2020, the 49ers are looking to improve, and the third overall pick could perhaps bring them what they’ve needed for a while. Whether or not that is a franchise quarterback, remains to be seen.
