Chadwick Boseman’s Widow Accepts His NAACP Award With Emotional Speech

Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Simone Ledward Boseman, accepted his posthumous award for outstanding actor in a motion picture at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards, Saturday with an emotional acceptance speech. Boseman received the award for his role in Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

“As always, he would give all honor and glory to the most high God,” his wife began. “He would thank his mom and dad, and he would give honor to the ancestors as we now honor him. Thank you NAACP Image Awards for always giving him his flowers. He was an uncommon artist and an even more uncommon person. But the manner in which we lost him is not uncommon at all. Not in our community.”

Boseman died last year after suffering from a previously undisclosed four-year battle with colon cancer. He most famously starred in Marvel’s Black Panther.

“Black people in this country are 20 percent more likely to be diagnosed with colon cancer and 40 percent more likely to die from it. The age for routine screening has recently been lowered to 45 so if you are 45 years of age or older, please get screened. Don’t put it off any longer, please get screened,” she said

Bobby Sessions Drops “Cog In The Machine” From His Upcoming Album

Dallas rapper Bobby Sessions has released the first single from his upcoming album. “Cog in the Machine” sees Sessions rapping about systemic racism, wealth inequality, and more. The song samples “Sooner Or Later” by N.E.R.D., which Sessions has said is his favorite track of all-time.

Speaking about his new single, the Grammy-winning artist says it was inspired by his decision to commit to his music career full time back in 2014:

I quit my 9-5 job back in 2014 with hardly any money to do music full time. It took a tremendous amount of courage to strive for the life that I couldn’t see in my physical reality. This song represents taking that leap of faith and not settling on doing something that you don’t love to do. Jumping into the unknown and discovering your unlimited potential.

Be on the lookout for Sessions’ new album soon.

Georgia Gov. Passes Voting Restrictions While Sitting Under Painting Of Slave Plantation

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) uploaded a picture of himself signing S.B. 202 into law under a painting of a slave plantation, Thursday. The bill will restrict voting access in the state under the guise of making elections more secure.

The bill will shorten runoff elections from nine weeks to less than a month as well as reduce the early voting period required for runoff elections from three weeks to one week. Additionally, mail-in voters will be required to include their driver’s license numbers or other documentation to verify their identities, instead of using signature verification. Also, people will be prohibited from offering food and water to Georgians waiting in voting lines, which can last over 10 hours in some districts.

Georgians elected two Democrats in two runoff elections in 2021 including Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. Warnock made history as the first black senator from Georgia.

Democratic state Rep. Park Cannon was arrested by Georgia State Patrol troopers for attempting to sit in on the bill signing at the Capitol. In a viral video, she can be seen being detained by officers after knocking on the door of the room. She is facing charges of obstructing law enforcement officers and disrupting general assembly sessions or other meetings of members.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Will Bunch described the bill as the “new, new Jim Crow.”

“The irony of Kemp signing this bill — that makes it illegal to give water to voters waiting on the sometimes 10-hour lines that state policies create in mostly Black precincts — under the image of a brutal slave plantation is almost too much to bear,” wrote Bunch.

The Senate will determine a date to vote on H.R. 1, a sweeping bill to expand voting rights, limit gerrymandering, change campaign finance laws, and more, in the coming weeks.

Megan Rapinoe Criticizes Draymond Green’s Take On The Pay Gap For Women’s Sports

USWNT star Megan Rapinoe has responded to Draymond Green’s comments on the pay gap between men’s and women’s sports. Rapinoe reminded Green who the “gatekeepers” to all the ideas the Warriors’ star had in mind are.

Green initially recommended that women’s sports focus on building their players brand and expanding into a “global sport.” That way, revenue will increase and the players can earn more.

Rapinoe broke down Green’s points in several tweets:

Respectfully, do you really think we haven’t been out here asking for more investment more resources more storytelling more branding and marketing dollars more youth investment more investment in coaches more TV time etc etc etc etc etc to infinity…

Also when they call you about doing a PSA for Women’s Month, why don’t you also tell them alllllllll the things we have been telling them, since forever. And you know who largely are the gatekeepers to that money, investment, resources, capital, time and sponsorship dollars are? Men. Do you know who men listen to? Other men. Just like with fights around all other social issues, change cannot be made if the only people who care about the change enough are the ones who are suffering the most from it.

Quando Rondo joined his affiliates Louwopp, Jumpout Blacc, and 333Pab in celebrating the news that Lul Tim has been granted a $100k bond by uploading a picture of Tim on Instagram, Saturday.

The captionless photo shows Tim in a kitchen and includes Rondo’s song, “Blue Opps.”

333Pab wrote in his post, “@lul_timm3 Pluto otw next welcome home cuz!”

“Ain’t no more free lul tim. Welcome cacc cuz,” Jumpout Blacc added.

Senior Public Information Officer Tracy Flanagan confirmed to XXL that Tim’s $100k bond was posted on Friday: “He’s still in jail. He does have a $100K bond and must be fitted with an ankle monitor.”

Tim was charged with murder in the November 2020 killing of King Von at the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta.

“Honest truth, I wouldn’t wish jail on my worst enemies,” Von’s manager, Track, admitted to VladTV in February. “That’s just how I am, how I’m built. Honest truth, I could care — that’s his situation and he gotta deal with it. That’s his team. Whatever’s going on with them, that’s on them. Me, personally, I know what I’m dealing with losing my brother and his family and just making sure we keep everything going. I don’t really think or even consider what’s going on on that side. That’s for them to figure out what they got going on.”
