These last few months have been difficult for the Houston Texans as they have been looking for a solution to their quarterback problem. Deshaun Watson has been looking to leave the team for months now and the Texans have refused to trade him away. However, now the quarterback is wrapped up in sexual assault allegations, which makes the Texans situation even worse. As a result, they are looking for new quarterbacks to fill the void, and yet another name has been brought up.

According to the NFL Network, the Texans are now looking at acquiring Alex Smith who is a veteran around the league. He was recently let go by the Washington Football Team and bringing Smith in would certainly add some depth to the roster.

Smith made a triumphant return to football last season following a brutal leg injury that almost killed him. Smith showed some great signs last season although it’s clear the Washington Football Team would prefer to go in a much different direction, moving forward.

As Derek Chauvin’s trial for the death of George Floyd gets underway, emotions everywhere have been heightened as we’re reminded of the unfortunate legacy of racialized police brutality that exists within the country. Following a year full of mass protests and widespread demonstrations, the racial tension in the country has never been so visible. In an effort to express her intense emotional response towards the murder trial, American “Goddess of Pop” Cher ended up becoming social media’s victim of the day.

In the tweet penned by the 74-year-old pop sensation on Friday (April 2), she disclosed a conversation she had with her mother about the Derek Chauvin trial. She wrote, edited for clarity, “Was talking with Mom & she said ‘I watched [the] trial of [the] policeman who killed George Floyd, & cried.'”

She continued, making the claim,  “I Said ‘Mom, I Know This Is Gonna Sound CRAZY, But.. I Kept Thinking …..Maybe If I’d Been There,…I Could’ve Helped.” 

Shortly after posting it, Cher’s tweet, while well-meaning, instantly received mass amounts of criticism for the “white savior” undertones littered in her response. At the time of this article’s publication, her tweet sits at 2.4k retweets and 7.6k quote replies. One Twitter user in a viral tweet compared Cher’s tweet to Kendall Jenner’s incredibly controversial Pepsi commercial where she boldly strutted up to officers and handed them a Pepsi, which many interpreted as meaning the effective end to police violence. 

Another took a much more neutral response, writing, “Y’all are roasting Cher for tweeting that she wishes she’d been there for George Floyd? Seriously?! She’s not claiming she’s a superhero like in your funny memes, it’s all about the feelings of devastation and outrage. She wishes she could’ve helped George Floyd, like any of us.”

As if the world’s leaders weren’t already crazy enough, a new survey revealed the shocking results that Russian President Vladimir Putin was voted the sexiest man in Russia. While it might seem very strange that this would be the case, the margin he won by wasn’t exactly a landslide. Only 18% of men and 17% of women surveyed voted him the sexiest, which only means about 2,000 Russians voted for him.

19% of the men who voted said they were the sexiest man in Russia, so the results aren’t exactly the most accurate. Hopefully it was a secret vote, as there could be consequences if Putin finds out about the other 63% of men who didn’t vote for him. 

Many of us would probably assume that if this survey happened in America, the number would be close to zero for Putin being the sexiest man alive. The current holder of that title is Michael B. Jordan, who was crowned sexiest man alive by People Magazine. Rapper Azaelia Banks might disagree with this, however, as she recently put Putin as one of the primary beneficiaries of her “love list.”

Coi Leray ignited on her Billboard charting single “No More Parties” by rapping, “My daddy let me down, but I promise you I won’t let up/I wanna say fuck that man, but that shit won’t make me better.” Whoa. Her father, Benzino, didn’t take too kindly to the lyrics, and began to call his child out on social media. That odd way of parenting turned into a social media feud between the two, which seems to have only helped Coi’s single to get more streams. 

“This is the most disrespectful sh*t I’ve ever experienced,” said Benzino at the time. “The names she just called [me] can never be forgiven or forgotten,” he claimed. “This not real. This is evil. I guess she had to play up to her fans and Executive’s. Nah this ain’t cool. But ok. I get it. This is the tough cool girl image.” Well, it looks like the fans loved it. 

Lil Durk hopping on the remix and in the music video helped boost “No More Parties” a bit. Now, the single has reached a milestone by getting a Gold Certification. The proud rapper posted the certification on his social media. Things seem to be going well for Coi, outside of some haters online shaming her body. Her latest single with Pooh Shiesty, “Big Purr,” is already a fan favorite and is picking up steam in the commercial atmosphere. 

Over the last few months, there have been some rumors floating around that Derrick Rose would be doing a Yeezy collab. Of course, Rose is from Chicago and even has his very own deal with Adidas, which makes him the perfect person to work with Kanye West. In fact, there have been various teasers of their upcoming shoe, although unfortunately, there really is no timeline for when any of it will be released.

Recently, however, Rose took to Instagram with a lengthy post about how his collaboration with Ye came together. As Rose explained, he had no idea that Kanye wanted to work with him in such a capacity and that at the end of the day, it is a dream come true. Rose has been a fan since Ye came into the game, and he made sure to pay homage with this IG post.

“Big bro team walks in and say they have to talk business and me and my Queen were about to leave the room and give them their space to talk business. He told us to not leave… G shit! His team was telling him to really think about the decision becuz it was going to be time consuming and he had a lot on his plate at that time. Next day we get on the plane to head back home and we seen that he did the GAP deal,” Rose wrote. […] “He’s from Chicago and we are use to people trying to shit on us. The environment is full of THAT hate you showed. Who really cares if it’s 1 or 6 BILLION lol. He represents Black Opulence and we love Ye for that and always will. People hate on him but deeeeeep down you know it’s inspiring. Peace and love King.”

Fans are eager to see what Rose has in store with Yeezy and it seems like those prayers will be answered soon. Kanye always comes through with unique designs, and with Rose backing the brand, Yeezy is in for a massive 2021.

Being caught perpetuating colorism is one of those things the internet never forgets. DaniLeigh recently had to face the internet’s scrutiny over her perceived colorist actions and continues to do so even long after issuing numerous apologies. Fair to say, colorism in the music industry is not something that is easily forgiven by the audience. Queen Naija caught fire after colorist comments she made about “nappy-headed” women resurfaced and have loomed over her heard despite her public apologies. Considering this, it’s no wonder social media had a lot to say when the songstress announced an upcoming collaboration with Ari Lennox.

Preparing to get the ball moving on the rollout of her sophomore album Missunderstood…still, the “Medicine” singer began by announcing the first single from the project. “Set him up 4/7/21,” wrote Queen Naija in the announcement, sharing the sexy red-lit single cover starring her and the first lady of Dreamville.  

“I wasn’t playing…. out April 7th,” penned Ari Lennox in a separate tweet on her account. The tweet from Lennox is what prompted the mass criticism from Twitter users who questioned why she would collaborate with someone who had said negative things about dark skin women in the past as a Black woman herself. 

The Shea Butter Baby artist’s tweet currently sits at 6,000 RTS and 3,890 quote replies, which in Twitter term translates into a controversial topic. 

“Ari she said she don’t like nappy headed darkskins,” penned one fan directly under Lennox’s tweet. Another user wrote, “ari lennox has a song with queen naija????? now who does that make sense too.”
