IDK Shows Off His Falsetto Voice In A Cover Of Pharrell’s ‘Frontin’

There’s no doubt that DMV rapper IDK is one of the more talented artists to make his mark in the hip-hop space over the past few years. He impressed with his major-label debut album, Is He Real? at the end of 2019, and since then he’s delivered a consistent streak of quality music, with his sophomore album, U See 4 Yourself, poised to keep that run going. But before that drops, IDK took a moment to show off his singing abilities in a silky smooth cover of Pharrell and Jay-Z’s 2003 track “Frontin.”

IDK debuted the cover with a black and white video, which sees him dressed up to the nines surrounded by back-up singers and violinists, all while he lets his falsetto voice fly.

The new take of “Frontin” is just one of many tracks that IDK has delivered in recent months. Earlier this week he joined Deante Hitchcock and Flatbush Zombies for a remix of Spillage Village’s “Baptize,” which arrived after his hard-banging track “Just Like Martin.” IDK also appeared on Pooh Shiesty’s viral track “Back In Blood,” with a devastating freestyle.

Check out the “Frontin” cover in the video above.

IDK is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Lakeyah Links Up With Gucci Mane On “Poppin”

On Friday, Wisconsin artist Lakeyah dropped her second project under her newly-acquired Quality Control label. The advantage of being signed and having a critically-acclaimed 2020 release, Time’s Up, under her belt is certainly not lost on Lakeyah, and “Poppin” sees her and Gucci Mane flexing their success. Lakeyah always has an IDGAF attitude about her, but she isn’t letting anyone talk back at her on “Poppin.”

Lakeyah started rapping in 2014, so her come-up definitely hasn’t been quick. She used to be part of a poetry slam team as a teenager, so she started writing down bars and making music, soon performing her first show in her hometown of Milwaukee. Her newest project In Due Time features other standout tracks like “Easy” and “Perfect,” which features Mobile, Alabama-based rapper Yung Bleu.

“Female Goat” Lakeyah is one of the newer additions to the female rap scene, and she is certainly not someone to sleep on. Check out her track “Poppin” below.

Quotable Lyrics
Bitch, I make him eat it sloppy, I might make him clean it up (Yeah)
Make that n**** wanna top me, if he want me, eat it up (Eat it up)
I don’t like these bitches in my business, I don’t sneak and fuck (Yeah)
I might give that ho her problem, tell that bitch to keep it up, yeah, yeah

DMX Fans Create Makeshift Memorial Outside Hospital Following His Passing

DMX’s death is one that will continue to affect the hip-hop community for years to come. The passing of someone with a legacy as impactful as that of the New York native is not one that can be taken lightly, something that has been proven by the abundance of support, condolences, and love that has been given to the late rapper and his family. The Mayor of his hometown in Yonkers has promised to develop a lasting tribute to the great lyricists and the upcoming Universal Hip Hop museum plans to do the same.

In the meantime, though, fans have assembled a makeshift memorial outside of the White Plains Hospital he passed away in to honor the icon hours after his death. Constructed on Friday (April 9), fans have already placed flowers, lit candles, stuffed animals, as well as balloons that spell out his three-letter stage name.

X, née Earl Simmons, passed away in the hospital earlier in the day after he was admitted following an overdose that led to a heart attack last Friday (April 2). He then fell into a coma and updates from people close to him throughout the week had not been sanguine

The scene from outside the hospital Friday evening was shared on social media by numerous New York-based media outlet journalists like NY1’s Amy Yensi, NBC New York’s Phil Lipof, and more.

Additionally, the Ruff Ryder’s held a balloon release for the late icon as well, which was captured on TikTok. Rest in Power DMX.

Wale To Make Appearance At WrestleMania 37

Wale has always been a big wrestling fan and over the years, he has helped WWE with their events. He also happens to be a huge sports fan overall and if there is something going on in the DC area, you can typically expect him to be there. Now, however, Wale will be returning to the WWE world this weekend as WrestleMania 37 is set to go down tonight and tomorrow.

In fact, Wale, will mostly be around for Night 2, where he will perform the track “Feel The Power.” This song is actually the walk-out music for Big E who has a huge match on Sunday. While speaking to Bleacher Report, Big E revealed what this song means to him.

“He’s one of my favorite rappers there is, but also to have my friend and someone who’s a huge wrestling fan, I was geeked just to be able to get him to perform,” Big E said. “To have him perform for me at home—Tampa’s my home—is incredible. I’m so stoked about it. We’ve been trying to get Wale for years. We tried to get him at a ‘Mania a couple of years ago, but things didn’t work out. I’m so excited about it and I know he is, too, because as a big fan, it’s a dream come true.”

Wrestling fans are in for a treat this weekend and if you’re looking forward to it all, you will be able to watch as of 7 PM EST tonight.

Miguel Gets Sensual On “Funeral”

Miguel is certainly not an R&B artist who shys away from writing sultry, NSFW lyrics. His track “Funeral,” which comes off of new EP Art Dealer Chic 4, is no exception. The song was originally released in 2019 as a single following Miguel’s Spanish EP Te Lo Dije, but its inclusion is vital to the lo-fi electronic vibe of Art Dealer Chic 4. The song is very bass-heavy and sees Miguel talking about “slaying,” someone’s daughter, sending his “regards to the mother and father.”

Alongside Art Dealer Chic 4, Miguel has also released the other three EP installments to streaming services this week. According to a statement Miguel gave to Pitchfork, I’ve been doing a lot of work to consider and refine my beliefs in the last few years. Inevitably, this brought me back to Art Dealer Chic as ADC is more or less a moniker for active mindset curation; choosing the thoughts, emotions, and actions that reflect my truest self instead of letting what I’ve experienced or what is expected of me dictate my choices.”

Hopefully, we’ll see an upcoming album from Miguel soon following the politically-charged 2017 release War & Leisure. Until then, check out the track and the official music video below.

Quotable Lyrics
I wanna get you so high (High)
‘Til you feel it in your mental (Mental)
Do you feel me in your mental? (Mental)
I’m fucking drilling in your dental (Woah oh)

DMX, Freddie Gibbs & 42 Dugg Hold Down Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist

We’re back with another week of our Fire Emoji updates, though this one is bittersweet. Yesterday, the family of DMX formally announced that he passed away after being on life support. Tributes flooded the timeline as many reflected on some of their favorite memories of the rap star. It was only right that we paid homage to X by including his hit record, “X Gon’ Give It To You” on this week’s playlist. RIP DMX.

Freddie Gibbs has been revving up for the release of his forthcoming album titled, SSS which he described as his “best produced album” to date. He gave us another taste off of the project last week when he slid through with the Nas-sampled “Big Boss Rabbit” which samples “You’re Da Man.”

One rapper who’s been MIA in the rise of lyricists like Freddie Gibbs and Griselda is Belly but he’s inching towards a major return. This week, he offered two new singles including “Money On The Table” with Benny The Butcher.

Speaking of Canadian rappers, Night Lovell also dropped off some new heat. The Ottawa native dropped off his new single, “Bottom Top.”

Other inclusions on this week’s playlist include Lil Tjay, Rich Homie Quan, and 42 Dugg’s banger with Roddy Ricch. Check out our playlist below and subscribe to HNHH on Spotify.

Kodak Black Says He Misses NBA YoungBoy: “Free That Boy”

Kodak Black and NBA YoungBoy have a rivalry dating all the way back to 2020. Once the best of friends, their relationship soured for some reason and the two have spent a great deal of time taking shots at each other in the media since.

It seems like ever since being pardoned by Trump, the Pompano rapper has been displaying a great deal of maturity in certain aspects. One such example was his decidedly docile comments about YoungBoy’s arrest. Continuing his change of heart, Kodak took to Instagram live to admit he misses the Baton Rouge rapper.

In the video, Kodak looks comfortable as he addressed fans on Instagram live snuggled up in a blanket. “Free that boy! I miss that boy I can’t even lie about that one,” he admitted, repeating again, “I can’t even lie about that one, ya heard?”

As you may know, NBA YoungBoy was arrested by federal agents and LAPD in Los Angeles last month after he attempted to flee the scene on foot. He was also recently denied bail by a Louisiana judge in connection with the charge and will remain behind bars until the trial.

As mentioned before, Kodak previously commented on NBA YoungBoy’s recent arrest. “Nah, I ain’t happy YB went to jail,” said Kodak on Instagram Live. “F*ck I’m happy he went to jail for? That was my lil bruh at one point. The f*ck I’m happy for? We street n***as, that could be anybody.”

Do you guys think Kodak and YoungBoy will be able to truly put their problems in the past and possibly collaborate in the future, pending YoungBoy’s release? Let us know.

Scotty Pippen Jr. Declares For NBA Draft

Scotty Pippen Jr. came into Vanderbilt as a three-star recruit which typically means there aren’t very high expectations. Despite this, Pippen decided to shock people and in the end, he completely outperformed his ranking as he averaged 20.8 points per game in what proved to be a great season at Vanderbilt. His performance led many to want to check him out closer and now, scouts are showing a lot of interest in the son of one of the sports’ finest players.

In fact, today, Pippen Jr took to Twitter where he declared for the NBA Draft which is set to take place in July. The young star wants to try his luck and see if a team will sign him. As it stands, he isn’t ranked among the top recruits, and to ensure that he can still play basketball next season, he has committed to Vanderbilt should he not get drafted.

It remains to be seen whether or not a team will want to take him although it’s still great to see him wanting to take this jump. He clearly has a ton of potential and after last season, there could very well be a team that takes a waiver on him.

Let us know which team you think would be the best fit for this young man, in the comments below.
