Andrew Brown Jr.’s Family Attorney Says Body Cam Footage Dispels D.A.’s Claims

On April 21, a 42-year-old Black man named Andrew Brown Jr. was fatally shot in the head by North Carolina police as they were allegedly carrying out a warrant for Brown’s arrest. In the weeks following the tragedy, residents of Elizabeth City, North Carolina have taken to the streets to protest the police shooting, especially after the Pasquotank County District Attorney Andrew Womble has claimed that Brown Jr. was threatening the officers involved with his car prior to the shooting.

As previously reported, the sheriff’s office has stated that it’s legally prohibited from releasing further details, including bodycam footage, without having an order from the court, but the family of Andrew Brown Jr. has continued to do the legwork to properly represent him in court. After conducting a private autopsy that revealed that Brown had been shot by police five times, the family’s lawyer, Chance Lynch, has spoken out against the district attorney’s allegations in an interview with TMZ.

Protestors march in the street after a news conference addressing police video footage of the shooting death of Andrew Brown Jr. on May 11, 2021 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Brown was shot and killed by officers from the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office on April 21.

“I don’t know where the elected got his recollection of facts or what video he saw,” Lynch tells TMZ. “What we saw, was an unjustified killing, and we never saw Mr. Brown pose a threat to law enforcement at any time while he was there in his vehicle.

Reiterating that the misleading accusations made by District Attorney Andrew Womble can still be easily resolved, Lynch says, “What I’ve said from the beginning is this: I’m not sure what the elected is saying he saw because [it] clearly doesn’t match what we saw. There’s one way that we can dispel the myths, and it’s one way that we can clear any discrepancies: release the footage.”

At the time of writing, the body cam footage from Andrew Brown Jr.’s fatal encounter with police in Elizabeth City, North Carolina has not yet been released, so stay tuned for updates.

Prince Harry Tells Joe Rogan “Just Stay Out Of It” After Vaccine Remarks

It appears Prince Harry has joined the chorus of backlash against Joe Rogan’s recent comments about the coronavirus vaccine, arguing that the influential podcast star should have chosen his words more carefully. If you missed it, Joe Rogan made a controversial statement about the covid vaccine last month, telling his millions of Spotify followers that he doesn’t believe a young, healthy person should worry about getting the vaccine.

“If you’re like 21 years old, and you say to me, ‘Should I get vaccinated?’ I’ll go no.” Rogan said. “If you’re a healthy person, and you’re exercising all the time, and you’re young, and you’re eating well, I don’t think you need to worry about this.” He later clarified his remarks, explaining: “I said, ‘I believe [the vaccines are] safe,’ and I encouraged many people to take them… My parents were vaccinated. I just said, ‘I don’t think that if you’re a young, healthy person, that you need it.’”

Appearing on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s Armchair Expert podcast on Thursday, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex said “the issue is in today’s world with misinformation endemic, you’ve got to be careful about what comes out of your mouth.”

Taking aim at Joe, Prince Harry said it would have been better for Rogan to “just stay out of it” and that “with a platform comes responsibility.” His intervention is notable given that he and Rogan are podcastmates at Spotify, where they both have exclusive deals.

Prince Harry appeared on Armchair Expert to promote his Apple TV+ series with Oprah Winfrey, The Me You Can’t See, which premieres next Friday, May 21.

ScHoolboy Q Is Focused In The Booth

Despite the momentum burst from Isaiah Rashad’s triumphant return with the Duke Deuce-assisted “Lay Wit Ya,” it feels premature to declare it anything close to TDE season. At least, not yet. The legendary label has been in the midst of a lengthy lull, with many of its biggest artists having taken some serious time off. Last we heard, from Ab-Soul was 2016, while Kendrick and SZA’s latest albums came in 2017. Jay Rock blessed us with Redemption in 2018, while ScHoolboy Q dropped off CrasH Talk in 2019.

On the topic of Q, the rapper actually teased a quick follow-up to CrasH Talk, prompting fans to assume he’d be coming through with a proper back-to-back. Unfortunately, the months quickly passed with no word of a new Q album, and soon enough his once-teased album became part of the TDE purgatorial pause. At least, until recently. It would appear that Q has decided to hit the reset button, seemingly beginning work on an entirely new project.

In fact, all signs suggest that Q’s motivation is at an all-time high. He recently shared a promising Instagram story, which can currently be seen right here, that provides insight into his work ethic. “I been walking str8 to the booth lately,” he states, alongside a clip of himself doing exactly that. “3 hrs at a time.” Though not much to go off, it certainly suggests that Q has been focused on his craft, a promising sign that he’ll be plotting a proper return before long.

Though it’s likely Isaiah will be the first TDE artist to drop something new, as The House Is Burning is certainly overdue, perhaps we’ll be receiving a new Q project before the end of the year. It would certainly go a long way in reasserting TDE’s dominance, as many fans have been eager to see what hip-hop’s most esteemed golf connoisseur has been cooking up. Are you among those excited for some new Q?

Reginae Carter & Toya Johnson Look Like Twins In Latest Photo: See Pic

In celebration of this past Mother’s Day weekend, Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter, decided to show some love to her mother, Toya Johnson, on Instagram the other day, and the resemblance between the two is crazy. Hell, it’s hard to tell who is who.

Taking to Instagram, Reginae shared a photo of her & her mother donning similar black dresses and leaving the caption “If ‘I get it from my mama’ was a picture.” And man she isn’t lying. Looking damn near identical, Reginae and Toya have the same face, body style, and mannerisms, looking more like twin sisters than a mother-daughter power duo. The two have always been mentioned together as looking alike, but this is getting eerie now that Reginae is getting older and recently got a boob job. Check out the resemblance (below) and let us know what you think.

This photo comes just a couple months after Reginae got her first breast implants, which she’s wanted for years but was finally able to get on her own.

“I’ve wanted to enhance my boobs since I was like 16, 17, but my mom was always like, ‘Girl, no.'” She explained that her mother urged her to wait until after she has children of her own to get a better picture of what she is going to look like. “‘Just wait until you have your first child because you don’t know how everything’s going to be.'”

“I’m 21 now, so she was like, ‘I can’t tell you what to do. You look perfect the way you are, but it’s whatever you want to do,'” she went on. “So I finally got to do it, and I’m so excited about it.”

JoJo & Parson James Duet For “Dirty Laundry”

JoJo has been around seemingly forever, and yet her music sounds as fresh as any r’n’b artist that’s cropped up recently (and if you need a reminder, check out our Next Generation of R&B feature for the current who’s who). After all, she started in the game as an r’n’b-slash-pop star back when she was just a teen, so now, at 30-years old, JoJo has visibly (or perhaps, audibly) evolved her sound, just as she’s matured along with it. To that effect, the singer dropped her strongest album to date, good to know, just over one year ago.

Since releasing her fourth album, JoJo hasn’t flooded us with new music, although she’s popped up with a sparse record every now and then, including the most recent in January, “American Mood.” Now, she’s back once again, although this time alongside fellow r’n’b singer Parson James. Parson James happens to be making his HNHH debut with their collaborative record, “Dirty Laundry,” a heartwarming duet about opening up fully to the one you love.

The two dropped the audio at the end of April, however today, they’ve blessed us with the official music video, which we’re using to highlight the collab since the initial drop went under our radar. But it’s not to be missed.

Check it out, and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics

Ooh, lay it out for me, your highs and low
All the in-betweens, you can’t unfold
And I’ll believe you when it starts to rain
That’s the only way to fix this stain
It’s on your face
And I can’t stand to see you this way
Oh, this way, yeah, this way because

50 Cent Aghast At Kanye West’s New Design

Among his many other titles — diamond-selling emcee and television mogul among them — 50 Cent has become an unexpected cultural commentator, thanks to an unapologetic penchant for gallows humor and a no-filter Instagram page. It’s reached the point where if any of his hip-hop peers do anything that catches his eye, they’ll be sure to hear about it.

Most recently, Fif has opted to set his destructive sights at his old pal and rival Kanye West, whose unconventional new sneaker caught his eye late last night. Boasting a design that feels like something a Druid might sport in a fantasy RPG, the design proved too much for 50 to handle. Yet in place of overt hostility came simple amusement in knowing that Ye’s influence would lead to a demand in certain circles, deemed ever so lovingly as “fools” by the legendary rapper.

“LOL Kanye gonna have you fools walking around in these shit’s,” he raps, aghast at the possibility. “LMAO oh my God.” Generally tending to favor the all-caps “LOL,” his invocation of “LMAO” (an acronym for laugh my ass off for the younger readers) speaks volumes about his feelings on the matter. And he’s not alone — comedian HaHa Davis dubbed them “the Tree Stomp 3’s,” while Waka Flocka added that they had to be seen to be believed.

Despite the ridicule, it can’t be denied Kanye West knows exactly what he’s doing, having built his Yeezy brand into one of the biggest sneaker companies in the game. Though it’s clear that 50 won’t be sporting a pair anytime soon, there are many who eagerly throw ducats at all things Kanye, no matter how outside of the box his designs may be. Check out the sneakers in question below, and sound off if you agree with 50’s disapproving assessment.

Ellen Degeneres Says Toxic Workplace Claims Were “Orchestrated”

Just a day after announcing her long running daytime show was coming to an end in 2022, Ellen Degeneres decided to appear on the “Today” show this morning to tell Savannah Guthrie why she’s moving on, and how the recent toxic workplace reports impacted her decision.

“If it was why I was quitting, I would have not come back this year,” DeGeneres said. “I really did think about not coming back because it did…it was devastating. I am a kind person. I am a person who likes to make people happy. I just kept saying to [wife] Portia [de Rossi], ‘If I was a fan of somebody and even if I loved them, I would think there must be some truth to it, because it’s not stopping.’ Right on the heels of that, I read in the press that there’s a toxic work environment, which I had no idea, never saw anything that would even point to that.”

When Guthrie asked DeGeneres if she felt like she was being “cancelled,” the talk show host responded, “I really didn’t understand it. I still don’t understand it. It was too orchestrated. It was too coordinated. People get picked on, but for four months straight, for me, and then for me to read in the press about a toxic work environment, when all I’ve ever heard from every guest that comes on the show is what a happy atmosphere this is and what a happy place this is.

“I don’t know how I could have known when there’s 255 employees here and there are a lot of different buildings, unless I literally stay here until the last person goes home at night,” she continued. “It is my name on the show, so clearly it affects me and I have to be the one to stand up and say, ‘This can’t be tolerated.’ But I do wish somebody would have come to me and said, ‘Hey, something’s going on that you should know about.’”

Promising to begin “a new chapter” on Sept. 21, DeGeneres addressed the allegations and apologized to the people that were affected.

“As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation,” DeGeneres said. “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people that were affected. I know that I am in a position of privilege and power and with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.”
