Busta Rhymes Ripped Dilla Production On “Turn Me Up Some”

Today, we celebrate the birthday of one of the greatest rappers of all time, Busta Rhymes, who turns 49. In honor of the legendary emcee, whose recent album ELE2: The Wrath Of God proved that he’s still going strong, it feels appropriate to highlight one of his many timeless tunes. While Busta has many hit singles to draw from, sometimes looking to the deeper cuts is the move, and his 2002 album It Ain’t Safe No More is filled with such selections.

“Turn Me Up Some” is one of three J Dilla produced tracks lining Busta’s sixth studio album, and all three find the rapper absolutely snapping. There’s something about Dilla’s crisp and buoyant production that encourages creative emcees to burrow into unexpected pockets. On this one, Busta opts for his signature nasal cadence as he lets fly an onslaught of rapid-fire lyricism over Dilla’s ghostly sci-fi wails. It’s exactly the sort of minimalist production that highlight’s Busta’s relentless prowess as an emcee, and while it might lack the commercial appeal of a “Make It Clap,” songs like “Turn Me Up Some” are the fuel that has given the Flipmode heavyweight such tireless longevity.

Happy birthday, Busta! When was the last time you revisited It Ain’t Safe No More?

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Blows that black and blue your front and your back
Choose, whatever the route that you choose
Wounds so horrendous forensics will get to analyzing the bruise
Blows will never come in singular, they coming in twos
My crew be starting the ruckus once I give them the cues
To blast from the triggers that’ll bust from all of my dudes

CJ McCollum Accuses Of LeBron James Of Acting Following Eye Injury

LeBron James was the talk of the NBA last night after he punched the Lakers ticket into the NBA playoffs thanks to an incredible three-point shot with just under a minute to go in a play-in game against the Golden State Warriors. A few plays before that, LeBron was poked in the eye by Draymond Green, and he ended up staying down on the ground for quite a bit afterward. Many felt like he was simply trying to get a favorable call, including Portland Trail Blazers star CJ McCollum, who commented on the play on Twitter.

“Actor of the year,” McCollum said. “Bron ain’t slick he wanted to rest for them free throws.”

Many fans in the comments agreed with McCollum, especially since Bron has been known to embellish plays from time to time. Regardless, it was the smart thing to do as LeBron was able to get to the line and eventually help his team win the game.

As for the Blazers, McCollum doesn’t have to worry about LeBron and the Lakers right now, as his team are going up against the Denver Nuggets. Meanwhile, the Lakers will get to face the second seed Phoenix Suns, who have surprised a lot of fans and analysts this year.

Decades before King Von would be revered as one of the most compelling storytellers to come out of Chicagoveteran Hip-Hop artist Common was putting his versatility on full display with his sixth studio album, Be. Executively produced by Kanye WestBe showcased the many facets of Common’s artistry over gorgeous soul sampling beats. On Monday, May 24, Common’s classic will celebrate its 16-year anniversary, so in honor of Be, it’s only right to revisit one of its best tracks.

Bright singles like “Be (Intro),” “GO!,” and “Faithful” make up a major chunk of Common’s sixth studio album, but songs like the classic storytelling cut “Testify” show just how potent Common and Kanye West‘s 2005 team-up was. Steered by an ingenious sample of Honey Cone’s “Innocent ‘Til Proven Guilty,” “Testify” features a cinematic story told by Common Sense about a woman enduring her husband’s murder trial, and ultimately, it’s cleverly revealed that she’s really the mastermind behind the entire crime.

Quotable Lyrics

She walk into the court her knees buckle
Saying for a man to survive he needn’t hustle
Seen and been through struggle her whole life
Made a transition from being his h*e to his wife
Stifling, the night upend the ATF bust in
Her daddy was a hustla, so she love them
Looked at the jury how can they judge him, she screamed

Logic Announces New Memoir “This Bright Future”

Logic may have retired from the rap game — though in hip-hop, history has shown that retirement is more or less temporary — but the multitalented artist has been steadily keeping the content alive in various other ways.

Today, Bobby has come through to lift the curtain on his next project, his first official memoir titled This Bright Future. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to note that the title has been previously utilized on the No Pressure track “Heard Em Say,” on which Chris Thompson sings ‘Where is my place in this bright future?”

“Excited to announce that my memoir, This Bright Future, is available for pre-order,” announces Logic, sharing a teaser of what’s to come. “This is the story of everything I’ve gone through and it’s been a beautiful and difficult journey to relive. There’s honestly so much that I’ve never been able to express in the music and the interviews that followed. I’m so happy and proud to finally give my fans and the rest of the world my entire story. The way I never could with my music!”

On the official website for This Bright Future, the description reads as follows:

A self-described orphan with parents, Bobby Hall began life as Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, the only child of an alcoholic, mentally ill mother on welfare and an absent, crack-addicted father. After enduring seventeen years of abuse and neglect, Bobby ran away from home and—with nothing more than a discarded laptop and a ninth-grade education—he found his voice in the world of hip-hop and a new home in a place he never expected: the untamed and uncharted wilderness of the social media age.

Look for This Bright Future to hit stores on  9.7.21, with a pre-order option available right here. Do you have any interest in hearing Logic’s story as told by the man himself?

Young Thug Explains Why Boosie Is “A Real Life Gangsta”

Boosie has gained a notable following not only through his music, but for keeping notoriously true to self no matter how people might feel. Though some may find themselves put off by Boosie’s unapologetic demeanor, others — including many of his hip-hop peers — appreciate him for his authenticity.

Young Thug, who previously connected with Boosie on Barter 6 highlight “Can’t Tell,” recently took a moment to celebrate the rapper on Gillie Da Kid and Wallo’s Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast. Specifically, the Baton Rouge icon’s status as “the realest in the game,” by Thugger’s own assessment.

“I call Boosie a real-life gangsta,” explains Thug, as Gillie shifts in his seat. “Boosie been slingin’ since he was 12, 13, man. That’s a real gangsta. Got caught, did the time, didn’t tell on nobody. Beat that shit, came home like a man. Still gonna handle his business to this day, if it ever comes toward him. That’s a gangsta — there ain’t too many of them.”

“My gangsta is different from a lot of people’s gangsta,” continues Thugger. “You have to go through something, life or death, to show your loyalty and to show that you’re real — for me to be like ‘you’re a gangsta.’ Not just taking care of no goddamn kid, that ain’t gangsta. You supposed to do that! You don’t supposed to go to jail for somebody I killed, so if you do that, and stay loyal, that’s gangsta. Not taking care of your child or paying your mama’s bills. You supposed to do that.”

Clearly, Thugger still has a lot of respect for his former collaborator, to whom he paid homage on the I’m Up classic “Fuck Cancer.” Check out his assessment on Badazz, which provides a deeper glimpse into his own principles, below. Tim Tebow Shows Off Larger Physique During First Jaguars Practice

Tim Tebow was officially signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars today and he will be going into training camp as a tight end. Tebow was a quarterback in the NFL just over half a decade ago and now, he is looking to take on a whole new challenge at the age of 33. There is no guarantee he makes the roster although considering Urban Meyer is the coach, he has as good of a shot as anyone.

In the Twitter clip below, Tebow could be seen walking into the Jaguars facility for his first practice since signing his new deal. As you can see, Tebow looks a lot bigger than he did when he was a quarterback, which makes a lot of sense considering tight ends are typically built with more muscle.

“I want to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity to compete and earn the chance to be part of this team,” Tebow said in a team statement. “I know it will be a challenge, but it is a challenge I embrace. I am dedicated to taking the direction of our coaching staff and learning from my teammates. I appreciate everyone’s support as I embark on this new journey.”

This is going to be an interesting experiment for everyone involved, and it will be fun to see how it all plays out. Keep it locked to HNHH for all of the latest updates from the NFL.

Omarion Revealed To Be Yeti On “The Masked Singer”

Another episode of FOX’s The Masked Singer is in the books, and with its airing, yet another one of the show’s secret artists has been exposed. Wednesday marked the penultimate episode of the season, meaning that one more contestant would go home before the finals air on Wednesday, May 26.

According to USA Today, the final four contestants consisted of Yeti, Black Swan, Chameleon, and Piglet, who performed songs by Kool & the Gang, Dan + Shay, Cam’ron, and Lewis Capaldi, respectively. Ultimately, Yeti was eliminated from The Masked Singer, and the person masquerading as the ice monster was surprisingly B2K alum Omarion.

Prior to Omarion’s unmasking, Nicki Cannon presented each of the panelist’s guesses, with predictions ranging from Justin Bieber and Jason Derulo to Mario and Ne-Yo. In the end, Robin Thicke was the only panelist to correctly guess that Yeti was in fact Omarion.

As The Masked Singer approaches its Season 5 finale, three contestants remain: Black Swan, Chameleon, and Piglet. At the start of the season, Hip-Hop fans quickly assumed that the Chameleon is secretly Wiz Khalifa, but due to the character’s success in the singing competition, viewers will have to wait until next week to see if their hunches are correct.

The Masked Singer returns for its final episode of Season 5 on Wednesday, May 26.

Tim Tebow Issues Statement After Signing With The Jaguars

Tim Tebow is a polarizing individual whose NFL career didn’t last very long. While he was a phenomenal player in college, his skillset simply did not suit the NFL, and it led to a quick exit from the league. Since that time, Tebow has tried his hand at baseball and he’s even done some broadcasting.

Over the past few weeks, there have been reports that he would be signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end, where he would get to reunite with his old college coach Urban Meyer. Well, today, the signing was made official as Tebow will now join the team during training camp.

“I want to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity to compete and earn the chance to be part of this team,” Tebow said per team statement. “I know it will be a challenge, but it is a challenge I embrace. I am dedicated to taking the direction of our coaching staff and learning from my teammates. I appreciate everyone’s support as I embark on this new journey.”

It remains to be seen if Tebow will make the final roster, especially since tight end is foreign territory for him. Regardless, he is a player that attracts a lot of attention and this whole ordeal will prove to be a huge media event for the Jaguars.

Fivio Foreign Shares Message From Jail: “I’ll B Home Soon”

New York rapper Fivio Foreign was arrested one month ago on multiple charges after evading from police on foot. The rapper reportedly was parked in the wrong spot at the bank and when he returned to his car, a police officer approached him and asked for his license. Fivio reportedly ignored the request and walked away. The officer stayed with his car while another policeman caught up to him in a nearby parking garage. After the cop grabbed him, a loaded gun fell out of his waistband. The gun was untraceable and the serial number was scrubbed off. He was charged with possession of a firearm for unlawful purposes without the required permit, possession of a defaced firearm, and resisting arrest.

The rapper remains in custody following a month spent in jail. He has spoken out for one of the first times regarding his arrest, telling fans that he’ll be back home soon.
