Lil Wayne Gives A Major Birthday Shoutout To Taylen Biggs

Being followed by any successful mainstream artist in the music industry is a flex, but as we all know, some follows come easier than others. Some artists, like Drake and Meek Mill, follow thousands of people while others, like J. Cole and Nicki Minaj, are much more exclusive with who they allow on their timeline and only follow hundreds of Instagram accounts. Then, there are artists like Eminem and Lil Wayne who typically don’t follow anyone.

That’s why it’s mind-blowing that eight-year-old model and philanthropist Taylen Biggs is the only person that Lil Wayne follows on Instagram, with Young Money APAA Sports being the only other account that he follows on the social media platform. In addition to having one of the best rappers of all time follow her, Taylen Biggs also received a major shoutout from Mr. Carter in honor of her eighth birthday.

On Tuesday, Lil Wayne posted Taylen Biggs’ birthday shoutout video with the caption, “Happy bday Lil Tay Slay,” but in contrast to his minimal, yet clever Burger King sourdough promotionthe Young Money founder had a lot to say about the young social media sensational.

“Happy birthday to the only person I follow on IG: the beautiful little Taylen Biggs,” Weezy says in the video. “I call her Lil Tay Slay, and if you follow me then you know every day a slay day. That’s why I had to get savage for you lil’ mama cuz you are the cutest little kitten on the catwalk for real.”

After promising to go bowling, bring her to the studio, and teach her how to skate, Lil Wayne presents his gift to her, which is a Tha Carter 3-inspired Pop! Funko figurine. He then says, “Again, happy B-day sweetheart. Every day is a slay day, and your true beauty if what you do for others. to be so aware of everything at such as young age is a beauty in itself. She’s eight now y’all, turn up!”

J. Cole Gives His Rwanda Patriots Teammates New Sneakers

While some Basketball Africa League players have expressed their discontent with J. Cole’s position in the newly formed league, Cole’s teammates on the Rwanda Patriots have a new reason to enjoy having him around. In a video shared to TikTok by basketball trainer Omar Khanani and reposted on TheShadeRoom, Cole gives his teammates boxes of new sneakers — presumably, his Puma RS-Dreamers — which they appreciatively try on.

The announcement that J. Cole would be playing professional hoops abroad sparked waves of excitement among his fans and brought plenty of eyes to the nascent league, a joint venture between the NBA and FIBA. However, Cole’s less-than-stellar debut — he scored three points in his first outing and just two in his most recent — prompted Morocco’s AS Sale star Terrell Stoglin, the team’s leading scorer and one of the top scorers in the league, to posit that Cole being there was “taking someone’s job.”

This is a pretty common sentiment among basketball players toward hoopers who underperform, so it’s not surprising to hear. However, Stoglin’s comments drew criticism from rapper Rick Ross, who admonished him in an Instagram video. “You should be there to support the brother,” he said. “If he made one point on the first game, by the time he get to the 10th, you should make sure he makin’ six a game.”

The Grammys Have Changed Their Rules About Album Of The Year Nominations

After an especially rough year when it came to criticism, The Recording Academy is changing a number of things about the Grammys. They recently announced some changes, including the elimination of “secret committees” that decide on award nominees (The Weeknd is still boycotting regardless). Now, in the newly published rules and guidelines for next year’s 64th Annual Grammy Awards, the Academy has unveiled a number of other changes, including a significant one for the Album Of The Year category.

The “Rule Updates” section of the new rules and guidelines document notes that at this year’s 63rd Grammys, the “award credited artists, features artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, engineers with 33% playing time of the album.” Next year, though, the “33% playing time rule” has been removed, which means that more people who were involved in making an Album Of The Year winner will be recognized as Grammy winners.

For example, if these new rules had been in effect for the 2021 Grammys, Bon Iver would have won an Album Of The Year Grammy, as they were featured on “Exile” from Taylor Swift’s Folklore. Another historical example: In 2014, Pharrell Williams, Julian Casablancas, and Panda Bear also would have gotten Album Of The Year trophies for their work on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories.

There are more changes than that for next year, including the establishment of two new categories: Best Global Music Performance and Best Música Urbana Album. Find the full revised rules and guidelines document here.

Akon Gets Corrected During 911 Call: “That’s Not A Car-Jacking…”

Akon was pumping gas into his white Range Rover this week in Atlanta when someone hopped into the driver’s seat and sped off. The iconic recording artist has since recovered his car via a tracker. After waiting an hour for the cops to arrive at the gas station, Akon called 911 a second time and kept his patience with an operator who constantly interrupted and corrected him during the call.

The call’s recording has been released, allowing fans to listen in as Akon calmly recounted what happened.

“How are you doing? I was just car-jacked at the gas station for my Range Rover,” said Akon to start the call. After the operator asked for the address, Akon proceeded to give the address that his car was tracked to, revealing that the car robber made off to a Neiman Marcus department store. “Neiman Marcus is not a street in the city of Atlanta,” corrected the 911 operator. Akon explained that the address he gave corresponded to where the car was parked, which he found via a GPS tracker. “What gas station are you at and have you made a police report?” insisted the operator. “Yeah, the police are on their way but they’ve been on their way for a whole hour.”

The operator went on to ask about the crime, which Akon described. “It wasn’t at gunpoint. I was literally getting gas and they just jumped in the car and–,” he said before getting cut off. “That’s not a car-jacking… someone stole your car.”

Akon kept his cool on the phone and, later in the day, he was able to recover the stolen vehicle. Listen to the 911 call below.

Pooh Shiesty Thinks Gucci Mane Deserves More Credit

1017 breakout star Pooh Shiesty has been enjoying a run at the top, fueled by the success of his Shiesty Season project — which happens to feature one of the year’s biggest anthems in “Back In Blood.” With the Deluxe Edition having been released last week, Shiesty took a moment to catch up with Ebro Darden on Rap Life, where he proceeded to give flowers to the man who gave him a record deal.

After Ebro notes that Gucci Mane has set a great blueprint for his younger artists, citing his ability to unite Atlanta talent, Shiesty takes the praise even further. “Not just Atlanta though,” says Shiesty. “He gets no credit he really deserves. It might feel like he started something or put these artists on first but he really did way more behind the scenes that he don’t want to be acknowledged. Dude a mastermind. To the point where I’m thinking this is his industry.”

“You can go watch somebody’s interview about jewelry now, who they going to bring up,” asks Shiesty, furthering his point. “Big Wop. He inspired them in some type of way.” It’s a testament to Gucci Mane’s impact on his artists, who clearly value his appreciation, insight, and leadership; such loyalty is part of what has made 1017 Records one of the most exciting labels to watch right now.

In addition to talking Guwop, the pair also discuss the G-Herbo-assisted “Switch It Up.” “I switched it up a notch,” explains Shiesty. “They thought I couldn’t rap fast or whatever. Most people didn’t expect G Herbo to be on it. I did a little trailer with a snippet before Herbo was on there. The whole world went crazy.” Though some lamented that the original instrumental was replaced, the song was still received favorably.

Check out Shiesty’s full conversation with Ebro Darden below, and sound off if you agree that Gucci Mane deserves for credit for everything he’s brought to the table.

Quando Rondo Responds To Death Threats From Fans

Quando Rondo has had a pretty intense year. The Savannah, Georgia-based rapper has been trying to focus on his new music, releasing his latest mixtape Still Taking Risks a few weeks ago. Given his connection to King Von’s fatal shooting though, the tragic events of November 6, 2020 continue to dominate the media’s coverage surrounding him.

Following his multi-part interview with Angela Yee where he told his side of the story, Quando Rondo continues his press tour with more comments about how the public has turned on him in recent months. In a recent interview, Quando spoke about the death threats he has been receiving from fans, stating that they don’t get to him.

“Death threat all you want to, bro, f*ck that shit, that’s just some words, my n***a,” said the rapper. “Go do an action. I’m going home to my daughter and if I didn’t, God called me. But I’m going home to my daughter.”

This has been a particularly rough month for the 22-year-old music star. At the beginning of May, Quando performed a concert in front of only fifty people, getting teased about it by fans on social media. A few days after, it was reported that he was shot at in his home state

What do you think about all the hate that Quando Rondo has received this past year?

Saweetie Speaks Out Against Injustices Facing Black People: “Stop Shooting Us Down”

Roughly a month following the release of her colorful Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1 project, Saweetie is back to remind us that Pretty Summer is still in full effect. In a recently shared video, Saweetie chops it up with Twitter to go #BehindTheTweets and provide some insight into some of her most quirky and heartfelt tweets. The video features plenty of funny and unexpected revelations, but one of the most serious moments came when Saweetie discussed one of her tweets from last summer, during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Saweetie’s original tweet read, “I’m happy to see the outpouring of resources to foundations and families but it pains me to know that no amount of money can bring back the black lives we’ve lost.

After reading the tweet aloud, Saweetie walks viewers through her personal experiences of seeing Black male family members like her father and uncle face injustice, and she also expresses a desire for tragedies like George Floyd’s murder to be resolved before they result in the loss of life.

“I’ve seen my uncles, my dad endure these injustices,” she says. “It’s just kinda like, I’d rather y’all start respecting Black people and stop shooting us down.”

In addition to briefly speaking on police brutality, Saweetie also explains her lyrics, relives the moment when she got a tongue piercing a college, and her strange appetite. Check out Saweetie’s full #BehindtheTweets explanation video below.
