Method Man Blessed Scott Storch’s Keys On “Is It Me”

Today marks a major milestone occasion for one of hip-hop’s legendary lyricists, with Method Man officially celebrating his 50th birthday. Though the Wu-Tang bar-spitter needs no introduction, it certainly feels appropriate to highlight one of his many timeless tracks in honor of the big day. This one harkens back to 2006, when Method Man delivered his fourth studio album 4:21…The Day After on Def Jam Records. Though the project as a whole was slightly divisive, many agreed that the Scott Storch-produced “Is It Me” was an easy highlight from the project.

Blessed by some melancholic keys laced by the Piano Man in the midst of a triumphant run, Meth’s calm and collected demeanor shines throughout as he whips up some effortless flow-schemes. “Ask Def Jam what’s hot, three letters, M-E-F Man,” he spits. “Been stopped, that’s off-top, young, fresh to death / And you’re not, no matter what the job, I’m the best man / Rap C.E.O. minus the yes-man.”

Though some might have been put off by Meth’s deviation from RZA’s grimy production into something more pristine, others welcomed his foray into different territory. Years removed from the release of 4:21…The Day After, how do you feel this one has withstood the test of time? Check it out now, and be sure to show some love to the birthday man of the hour. Happy 50th Meth!

As I brush off my shoulder, that’s right
My ni*ga Scott Storch keep bringing it back like
Oh boy, dig it, I talk about it and I live it
Been there, did it, shitted and wiped my ass with it
These critics saw the train for brains and must have missed it
If they ain’t got the shit, they’ll never get it

Yung Joc Talks Pandemic Wedding Planning, Viral RideShare Moment, & New Rick Ross Collab

It’s interesting when an artist’s career spans decades, because how fans know or perceive the artist will directly depend on when the fan was introduced to the artist, at what stage in their career? For some, when they hear Yung Joc’s name, the immediate reaction is to begin rapping, “Meet me in the trap, it’s goin’ down / Meet me in the mall, it’s goin’ down,” and the signature leaning dance move is often executed for good measure. However, for others, Joc is a central figure on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, a break-off franchise from the original series first launched in the Big Apple. The rapper has gained a new set of followers who know less of his records and more of his reality television antics, but these days, Joc is looking to progress from his scandalous storylines as he focuses on making mature moves.

Fans would like to think that they know just about everything about their favorite artists, and although Joc has been on our playlists since he released his debut album New Joc City back in 2006, his addition to the Love & Hip Hop franchise in 2014 surprised many. The Atlanta cast proved to be one of the most popular—and most drama-filled—of the series, including Joc who was often wrapped up in relationship issues and cheating allegations.

For the first time, VH1 has united several cast members together for their VH1 Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition, and Joc spoke with us about how viewers will find that the shift in the series is a result of a shift in the culture. The future of Love & Hip Hop was uncertain as production figured out a way to present the cast during a pandemic, so they flew a handful of their stars to Arizona for a family reunion-styled get together where people faced strained relationships, unaddressed issues, and discussed the socio-political upheavals affecting their communities.

“Expect the unexpected, honestly,” Joc exclusively told us. We recently sat down with him to chat about his growth on Love & Hip Hop and how uniting with his reality television family is important for audiences. “Because what I expected was, I don’t know what I expected to tell you the truth. I was coming out there like eyes wide shut. I didn’t have a clue, but I will say this: I think that the fans will definitely be pleased to see how a lot of these—I don’t want to say characters—but these talents, the people involved, you get a chance to see them from a different perspective when it’s not this drama in they face.”

“We’re facing real-life scenarios that sometimes you don’t see on the regular franchises. Just because sometimes people are not willing to share information which makes you as a viewer, you’re not privy to who this person is behind closed, closed, closed doors, you know what I’m saying? There are some other doors that people don’t open because it may be too personal. Some of us may be a little more private than what you expect.”

Privacy is something that in the Hip Hop world, as a famous artist, is a luxury—especially when you’re also a reality television star. In 2019, Joc surprised fans when he reappeared on TV with a girlfriend, Kendra Robinson, who he’d reportedly been dating for years. Joc brings in checks hosting Yung Joc and the Streetz Morning Takeover on Atlanta’s Streetz 94.5, while Robinson works as a defense attorney, far from the bright lights of the entertainment industry. The world watched as Joc proposed on television and the rapper hopes that they can be an example to a culture that often celebrates being emotionless as it pertains to relationships.

“We’re in the process of you know, we’re planning a wedding. Trying to figure out how we’re gonna put it all together because this pandemic, life has changed for a lot of us, all of us”

“We’re in the process of you know, we’re planning a wedding. Trying to figure out how we’re gonna put it all together because this pandemic, life has changed for a lot of us, all of us,” said Joc. “We’ve all been affected by this so when it comes to her and I, we’re just trying to be smart with our next moves.”

They’re both successful in their own rights, and their differences bring them balance. “It’s a beautiful thing to be a couple like us… Here I am an entertainer and she’s an attorney. A very good attorney, at that… It’s gonna be a beautiful thing to watch anything unfold between Kendra and I. That’s my lady and I love her.”

There have been rumors for years about Joc and Robinson following in the footsteps of other Love & Hip Hop couples by allowing VH1 cameras to film their wedding, and whether that occurs or not, Joc stressed that it’s important for him to remain authentic in an industry that praises performative actions.

In January 2020, Joc was recorded by a passenger driving for Pull Up & Go, a rideshare service. The video quickly went viral and social media pulled out all of the stops with memes and offenses as Joc was labeled as a rapper that fell off. However, at the time, Joc shared that he’s actively involved in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization and believes it’s important for the younger generation to see public figures being involved. It’s a sentiment that he continues to carry regardless of how he’s perceived.

“I just think you can’t say that you’re praying for people if you’re not praying for people. You can’t say that you’re giving back to the community if you’re not getting involved in the things that are taking place in the community,” said Joc. “You get what I’m saying? I wanted to make sure that—I ain’t never been the cat that wanna be cap.” He mentioned that he listens to artists and influencers talk the talk but when one researches what they’re doing for their communities, they aren’t walking the walk.

“How can we say we want to protect our youth if I’m not actively involved in my community and actively helping the youth?”

“I just never wanted to be that cat. How can we say we want to protect our youth if I’m not actively involved in my community and actively helping the youth?” he asked. “I believe in practicing what you preach. I have kids so I have to lead by example and that’s why I have been a part of so many initiatives and I am apart of so many initiatives, because I do believe in change and better day.”

“At this point in my life, I’m a more mature man and when it comes to younger people in the culture, they gotta know what’s real. One thing about life, God creates help-mates for a reason. God created emotions for a reason. God gave us the power to love unconditionally and I just think that we have to tap into it,” said the rapper. “I really feel like a revolution is coming when it comes to that because it is so much savagery out here. People out here living like, if a thought comes to they mind, it becomes law because it’s their thought, it’s their world, it’s their way, it’s they life.”

“When it comes to the younger generation, I think they’re gonna get it slowly but surely because a lot of things have changed and a lot of things are changing, and I think people will see even more clear in the very close future. I just feel a revolution is happening, not even coming, happening as we speak.”

As he balances his radio show, reality TV, and plans for a possibly-televised wedding, Joc is also back in the studio. It’s been two years since he delivered Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood and while he did release a single in 2019, “Perfect Timing” featuring Gunna and B. Smyth, Joc hasn’t shared new tunes in some time. He exclusively told us that we can hear fresh music soon, including his reunion with Rick Ross on a collaboration titled “Big Stepper.” He called it a “nice club record” that is all bout “trying to have some fun” and “talking your sh*t.”

Aside from getting back into the booth, Yung Joc also shared that he’s been working with Kali, an artist that has been making waves on TikTok with her single, “Do a B*tch.” It’s been dubbed the “Pretty Girl Challenge” and Joc is excited about what’s in store for the rising star.

“All I’mma say is she’s coming,” Joc said. “By the time they figure it out, it’s gon’ be too late. Promise you. She’s got everybody and they mama throwing deals at her. She’s got a couple of multimillion-dollar deals on the table… We’re just seeing how we can take her to the next level.”

As he balances being pulled in all directions, Joc wants to be perceived as a man of integrity and legitimacy. “I’m just a caring person who is a very positive spirit,” he shared with us. “I’m always trying to show love and spread love… ‘Homie a good one, homie don’t play games, homie ain’t out here just saying he’s doing stuff, he don’t even talk about it ‘til it’s actually happening.’ That’s just how I move. Just know that I’mma a child of God and I want to spread positivity to the utmost extent.”

Randy Orton & Soulja Boy Are Sparring On Twitter

Soulja Boy hopped up out the bed, turned his swag on, and decided to enter into an all-out war with WWE star Randy Orton. The “Crank Dat” rapper had the nerve to call WWE “fake” in a tweet, which seriously pissed off a number of wrestlers who put their bodies on the line every single night… especially 14-time world champion Randy Orton.

“Rap game faker than WWE,” wrote Soulja Boy on Twitter, angering Retribution wrestler T-Bar and Randy Orton, who snapped at him in his replies. “Fake? Dare this prick to step up,” replied the Viper. “He dont like movies? Consider us actors that do stunts, without pads 200 days a year and don’t b*tch when we get surgically repaired and come right back. Consider us 100 times tougher then anyone you’ve come across. Aint nuthin but a b*tch ass…”

Of course, this kicked off a war between Big Draco and the first-ballot WWE Hall of Famer, which very well may conclude in a handicap match between Bow Wow, Soulja Boy, and Randy Orton. “Do u know who the f*ck I am I’ll bring the REAL to wrestling don’t play with me,” said Soulja. “Randy Ortonnnnnnnn??????????”

Randy went on to take aim at his rival’s music career, calling him a one-hit-wonder and claiming that Bad Bunny, who has been making regular appearances on Monday Night RAW, would destroy him in the ring.

“Ps @sanbenito would beat the f*ck outta you. Why? How? Because he’s seen our world. Respects it and knows what it takes and finds himself lucky to be a part of it,” said Orton. “You wanna talk fake? Pawn that cheap ass chain and come work for it you one hit wonder ass mutha f*cka. ‘Crank that’ came out in ‘07 you had a hell of a year. Serious $. Hats off to ya my dude. Here’s the thing tho… I like rap. I bump that sh*t all day whether it’s tunechi, meek, JZ…but you call what I do to survive, fake? F*ck that. Come to my world and say that. Dare ya.”

Soulja Boy held his ground, maintaining that wrestling isn’t a real sport and saying, “If you mad because I spit facts just say that. What you do is FAKE and I stand on that. What I do is REAL. Come to your world? Lol welcome to Soulja World.”

The beef was enough to get both parties trending on Twitter, and for Bow Wow to step in. The rapper has been training for a career in the WWE, and he couldn’t pass up this golden opportunity to let Randy know who he is. “Yo @souljaboy these wrestlers are terrified,” chimed in Shad Moss, who previously also had beef with a few superstars. “I been giving them the business since i announced i was training. They so scared we gone take all they shine. The thing is we call our own shots and work for ourselves. They gotta check in with they boss in order to make things happen! @TripleH WE READY TO FIGHT!”

Who do you think would win in a fight? Soulja Boy or Randy Orton?

J.I.D. & Metro Boomin Are Cooking Up

Yesterday, J.I.D. sparked hype by tweeting out his appreciation for Metro Boomin, a post that immediately had fans clamoring for a collaboration. In a stroke of brilliant fortune, it would appear that is exactly what’s in the midst of transpiring, as evidenced by a few follow-up tweets from Metro and Spillage Village affiliate Lou Spill. Though the intended destination is unclear, it seems likely that the duo are cooking up for J.I.D’s upcoming follow-up to 2018’s DiCaprio 2, tentatively titled The Forever Story.

“Dis man @MetroBoomin one da most talented and realest innnit,” wrote J.I.D, a message that went on to spark a promising response from Metro. “Likewise my boy it takes 1 to know 1 4sho we applying PRESSURE,” he answers, his wording all but solidifying that a studio session is underway. And while it’s certainly speculative as to what’s being concocted, Spillage Village affiliate Lou Spill shed some light on what might be expected.

“@JIDsv & @MetroBoomin makin some of the craziest shit I’ve heard in a minute,” writes Spill, clearly having spent time observing the session in action. “Watchin em work it’s like they both respect each other’s craft so much they both goin crazy to make sure they do each other justice.” A promising assessment indeed, and we can only hope to hear one of Metro’s iconic tags — or if we’re really lucky, more than one — on J.I.D’s upcoming Forever Story album. After all, these are two of Atlanta’s most talented artists right now, and hearing them collaborate for the first time should make for an exciting hip-hop moment.

Are you excited to hear whatever they have cooking up?

ESPN Mistakes 2 Chainz As Future, Fans Go In

Aside from both hailing from Georgia and being OGs of the hip hop scene there, there’s not much in common between 2 Chainz and Future. Not their public personas, not their music, and not even their physique. As spring rolls in, the annual college basketball March Madness tournament is just a few weeks away. Perhaps a little too excited about the forthcoming event, ESPN made the mistake of using a photo of 2 Chainz rather than Future in a now-deleted Instagram post on Monday (March 1).

The network’s media team had a case of mistaken identity in the Instagram post as they attempted to pay ode to Future’s memorable 2015 track “March Madness” from his fan-favorite 56 Nights mixtape, while also announcing that the namesake sporting event was approaching. ESPN posted a since-deleted photo on Instagram where they tried to compare Wilt Chamberlain’s 1960s stats to Future’s stellar performance on the track. Rather than attaching a photo of the “March Madness” rapper, however, they instead shared a photo of the self-proclaimed ‘Tity Boi.’

The post stayed up for a couple of hours before fans quickly pointed out under the comments that there seemed to be a mixup. By then, however, it was too late, and screenshots of the post began swirling all around social media. Many dragged the network for the mistake, particularly because they went as far as to even tag Future in the post

Others pointed out that this mistake would have not happened if the network had a more diversified media team. “Like…. I bet their social media manager is 33 year old white woman named Sarah who’s never heard a future or 2 chainz song,” said one person.

Check out some other reactions to the alarming mix-up.

Jay-Z’s Ace Of Spades Earnings Speculated By Forbes

Jay-Z’s recent deal with the LVMH’s Moët Hennessy, which found him selling fifty percent of his Armand de Brignac (also known as Ace of Spades) champagne brand, appears to be an extremely lucrative one for the legendary rapper. Based on a report from Forbes, the deal was estimated at a value of over $600 million, which would then net Jay a minimum of $300 million.

Prince Williams/Getty Images

Upon inking the deal, Jay-Z explained his motivation for partnering with Moët Hennessy in a press release. “We are confident that the sheer power of the Moët Hennessy global distribution framework, its unparalleled portfolio strength, and its long-established track record of excellence in developing luxury brands will give Armand de Brignac the commercial power it needs to grow and flourish even further,” he stated.

Forbes notes that their own valuation of Ace Of Spades placed the luxury spirit at an approximated $630 million, with analysts speculating that Hova was set to pocket an estimated $315 million. Already boasting a net worth of over one billion dollars, making him the first rapper to hit the financial milestone, this latest money move is but one of many lucrative developments for the entrepreneur. It’s no wonder that the move was celebrated by so many of his peers, including near-billionaire Dr. Dre.

While it’s certainly impressive to witness watch Jay-Z continue to make waves beyond music, many fans have been pining to see the Jigga Man come through with a proper follow-up to 4:44. His slew of recent features, ranging from a standout verse on Meek Mill’s “What’s Free” (where he undervalued Ace Of Spades to be worth half a billion) to the recent “What It Feels Like” collaboration with the late Nipsey Hussle. One can only imagine the energy he’d bring to his fourteenth studio album, if and when it drops — how does a verse recorded directly after a $315 million dollar payout actually sound?

Azealia Banks Shares List Of People She Loves: Trump, Candace Owens, Putin, & More

Azealia Banks might have been canceled a million times, but she’s still kicking, promising to remain relevant until she chooses to quiet down. The “212” rapper may not be trending for her music anymore, but she manages to always stir up some drama with her loud mouth, sharing her controversial musings on social media all day long. Most recently, the rapper got engaged to artist Ryder Ripps, and her fiancé is seemingly teaching her to hold less hatred in her heart. In doing so, she shared a list of people she claims to love, which is pretty eye-opening.

While Azealia’s list of people she loves isn’t too surprising to those that have kept up with her shenanigans for the last few years, it still comes as a shock to see some of the names she added to her list. Lil’ Kim is listed in the middle, highlighted with a heart around her and so are a few other artists, including Mario Judah, Donald Glover, Juelz Santana, Shakira, T-Pain, and more. However, people are more concerned with the names near the top of her list, mainly Donald Trump, Candace Owens, Vladimir Putin, and more. She also lists Ariel Pink, who was recently accused of abuse after being spotted at the Capitol raid in support of Trump. He’s also been accused of being anti-semitic, which contradicts Azealia’s recent admission that she’s converting to Judaism.

“@ryder_ripps says I need to practice not being such a hater so I made a list of people I love,” wrote Azealia on Instagram.

The post is slightly confusing, only because a few hours prior, Azealia claimed that she broke up with her fiancé. “Lol, I just dumped @ryder_ripps,” she wrote on Stories. “He’s too insecure for the wildly creative she-wolf in me. I’m keeping the menorah ring too.”

DaniLeigh Addresses “Yellow Bone” Controversy Again In Twitter Beef With Akbar V

DaniLeigh continues to be the aim of the wrath of countless social media users long after previewing her controversial unreleased “Yellow Bone” song, which many accused of being a “colorist anthem.” She’s since apologized numerous times for the song, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from continuing to troll the “Easy” singer. DaniLeigh once again responded to a few critics on her Twitter account Sunday (February 28), eventually getting into a heated exchange with Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star Akbar V.

Gabe Ginsberg/Getty Images

“I want to tell you baby you are no Black no matter how many black wigs u let them put on you baby,” tweeted the outspoken Atlanta rapper to DaniLeigh. She clapped back with, “Keep making music I’ll never hear,” and from there the two continued to bicker. DaniLeigh held that she wasn’t trying to “be anyone but myself,” while once again saying she didn’t even know who Akbar was

“U still not Black,” continued Akbar V, which launched DaBaby’s ex into a discussion about her recent album Movie, adding she had features from PartyNextDoor, Lil Baby, Gunna, and more. Akbar then shifted the conversation to address the “Yellow Bone” controversy

“I want u to stop color shaming cause I really wasn’t being funny u started the sing then started with I don’t give a f*ck altitude we are really Black my Black women go threw enough for u to make fun of it,” Akbar said in a tweet.

DaniLeigh reiterated she “wasn’t saying it to shame someone…especially they color.” When asked by another user if she’d be willing to apologize, she revealed she felt she had already “took accountability” for her actions. She went on to add her problem with people referring to her as “a white girl” and said she was Dominican “with a whole bunch of sh*t in me.”

Check out more tweets from the lengthy exchange below.
