Ice Cube Says Developing Big3 League Was Harder Than Rap & Acting Careers

He has had his hand in all facets of the entertainment industry, but Ice Cube’s basketball league Big3 has given him the most difficulty. The Rap mogul has dabbled in just a bit of everything from producing to directing to starring in blockbuster films to nabbing the No. 1 spot on the charts to touring the world. Yet, when Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz announced in 2017 that they were launching a 3-on-3 league featuring former NBA and international basketball players, some people gave them a side-eye.

The Big3 league has been gaining traction in its first few years, and Bossip recently caught up with Cube and asked him where the league ranked in the list of his career accomplishments. “This the biggest thing ever...and the hardest,” he said.

“Doing music, I grew up with Dr. Dre living down the street from me, so, you know. Not saying that was easy but I was in a position to really be right there,” he continued. Then, he mentioned why acting wasn’t as tough, either.

“In movies, John Singleton saw me one day and said, ‘Hey, I wanna put you in a movie.’ So, that career took off, you know, with being discovered like that. This is something we had to conceive from scratch with all kind of people telling us that we was crazy, what are y’all doing, you rap what are you doin’ in sports, you do movies and now you doin’ basketball.”

“So, we had to push this rock uphill. This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.” He added that the challenge is what makes it all worthwhile and “fun,” and said it will feel “satisfying” once he “gets this league where it’s supposed to be.” Check out the clip below.

The reality television star also lets it be known that he isn’t concerned about the criticisms he receives from the public because he’s too busy taking care of his children and stacking his bank account. Stream “Liar” and let us know what you think about Safaree Samuels’s latest declarations.

Quotable Lyrics

You say I’m a deadbeat
You type from your little house
I’m sorry my kids’ room is big as your real house
Me and my BM not together we get along

Your sh*t about 400

Soulja Boy Catches Heat For Saying He Was “The First Rapper On BAPE, Period”

If there is a rapper holding down the record number of “firsts” in the industry, Soulja Boy takes the crown. The Rap icon has been in the industry for nearly two decades as he’s developed his career from an internet celebrity into an international superstar. If there is anyone who knows how to create a trend or go viral it’s Soulja Boy, and while he has been credited for being the “first” rapper to make certain moves, Hip Hop fans are calling foul on his comments about BAPE.

During a chat with Complex, Soulja made new claims, this time about the fashion brand BAPE (A Bathing Ape), but the public was quick to let him know that the Notorious B.I.G. and The Neptunes were the icons behind putting BAPE on the map.

“I was the first rapper on BAPE period,” said Soulja. “I understand what they did and it’s respectable, but as far as the culture, as far as internet, as far as fashion, as far as the streets, the trap, the trenches, the kids and everything that matter, that was all off of the first album.” He mentioned his attire in the music video for “Crank That,” a visual that got “millions and millions of views.” Soulja added, “They know who started it. They know who set the trend.”

The responses are continuing to pour in as Pharrell has become a trending topic on social media. People have pointed out other artists who helped catapult BAPE into Hip Hop history, including Clipse and Cassidy. Did Soulja Boy really put the streets onto BAPE? Check out a few reactions below along with the rapper’s video and let us know what you think.

Azealia Banks Suggests Grimes Has “Some Psychosexual Obsession” With Her

Not long after it was reported that they were set to collaborate together back in 2018, Azealia Banks and Grimes had a public fallout. Banks would leak alleged text messages from Grimes about the singer’s boyfriend Elon Musk and the social media frenzy continued as the ladies exchange a war of words. Things have been relatively quiet as it pertains to the animosity between these two, but Grimes is picking up the torch as she recently revealed that her next single targets her former associate.

At the Splendour XR festival, Grimes performed her unreleased track “100% Tragedy,” and she explained that the song is about “having to defeat azealia banks when she tried to destroy my life.”

Those years ago, Banks accused Grimes of allegedly introducing Musk to marijuana and claimed that she had been waiting on the singer in the billionaire’s home for days. Banks also accused Grimes of using meth and stated that Musk used acid. After learning about Grimes’s latest remarks, Banks couldn’t pass up the opportunity to respond.

“So you go make a bootleg @inna song about it. Yikes,” she reportedly wrote. “Grimes def has some psychosexual obsession with me. i think it’s bitterness cuz she doesn’t have the musical capacity i have. everything she does is out of pretentiousness and it comes out like that … while everything i do is out of natural swag & geniusness lmaoo. Starting to notice all the weird undercover millennial racists hide out on discord.”

Yesterday (July 25), Banks also reportedly posted and deleted an Instagram Story where she issued a loose threat. “Really thought I did you a favor by not responding to that subpoena….., i just May happen to have all those extra texts/screenshots/evidence Laying around somewhere.”

This seems to be only the beginning. Look through a few screenshots below.

Sabrina Peterson Responds To T.I. Co-Signing DaBaby’s Rolling Loud Miami Rant

Their legal issues haven’t kept Sabrina Peterson from indirectly addressing a recent controversy involving T.I. Rolling Loud Miami went on without a hitch—aside from half of a stage collapsing just a day before it began—but the most talked about moments in recent conversations are centered around DaBaby. The North Carolina-bred rapper stole attention with viral moments including having Tory Lanez as a surprise guest, but it was his remarks about STDs and homosexuality that caused him to face backlash.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” DaBaby said while on stage. “Ladies, if your pussy smell like water, put your cellphone light in the air. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d*ck in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”

The rapper quickly faced backlash but soon, he received support from T.I. who threw Lil Nas X’s name into the discussion. “If Lil Nas X can kick his sh*t in peace… so should dababy [shrugging emoji] #equality,” said the Atlanta icon before he released a video explaining his remarks. Amber Rose stepped forward to call out homophobia and Peterson interjected with her take, as well.

“More Black women are catching HIV from Black men that can’t control their flesh,” she wrote. “More than gay men! Actually the safest best for a Black woman these days may be with a woman.” In the caption, Peterson added, “I said what I said!” DaBaby attempted to clarify his Rolling Loud comments by saying that people took his words out of context, but that just further fueled the fire.

Mickey Factz Fires Back At Royce Da 5’9″ On “Wraith”

A falling out among hip-hop titans occurred last week. Royce Da 5’9″ and Lupe Fiasco have been throwing shots at each other on wax, beginning with a series of diss tracks snippets posted to their respective Instagram pages last week. Of course, this makes for some great hip-hop beef between a few respected MCs, and hip-hop is in need of more rappers outbarring the next MC rather than screaming into the selfie camera on their iPhone.

Mickey Factz has since been dragged into the beef after Royce called him out during round one. Today, Factz unleashed his response to the Detroit rapper on his latest record, “Wraith.” Produced by AWSME J, Mickey Factz dives into the production, flexing his versatility, penmanship, and elite skillset as an MC.

Check the record out below.

On Montgomery Ave. bad, I’m dealin’ that name brand

Avelino Unveils New Project “Ego Kills” Ft. Krept, Wretch 32 & More

Fans have been patiently waiting the arrival of a new project from Avelino. The 28-year-old rapper has remained relatively low-key in the past few years. He released his last album, No Bullshit in 2017. Since then, he’s only offered a handful of singles and collaborations, keeping the anticipation high for his next body of work.

Throughout the year, Avelino has been slowly unveiling new singles leading up to the release of Friday’s, Ego Kills. The 13-song body of work showcases Avelino’s growth, both through his ear for production and his penmanship. Though he largely holds down the project on his own, he enlists the help of Krept, SL, Not3s, Wretch 32, and Yungen for the tracklist.

Peep the latest project from Avelino below and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Headie One & J Ramms Connect For “Pound Signs Remix”

Headie One is still riding high off of the release of Edna, as well as its deluxe edition. However, it seems that a follow-up to the project might be in the pipeline. A recent appearance for a Daily Duppy freestyle with GRM Daily earlier this year rippled through the underground circuit. Then, he slid through with his latest single, “Pound Signs.” Originally released at the tail end of June, he followed it up with an official remix just a month later.

Last week, Headie One unveiled the “Pound Signs” remix alongside J Ramm. The two rappers tackle the glossy drill production detailing the extravagant lifestyle they’ve earned through their rap careers.

Clermont Twins Clap Back After Person Posts Photo Of Them Without Makeup

They went from the Bad Girls Club to walking the runway for Yeezy Season 6, and the Clermont Twins haven’t slowed down. The pair of identical twins are known for being reality television and social media personalities who often share photos from their modeling gigs and parties with some of our favorite artists. They aren’t often photographed in their everyday attire without the tending of their glam squad, but a person captured the sisters while they were out. Needless to say, it caused a bit of a ruckus.

In the photo, the ladies seemed to be minding their businesses while looking at their phones as a stranger took a picture of them and posted it online. The candid shot showed them without makeup and soon, they were being trolled by critics who called them out for having cosmetic surgery.

Shannade Clermont took to Twitter to address the viral photo by calling out people who take pictures without permission. “Imma literally start taking photos of b*tches who take off guard photos of me. A 1 FOR 1!!!” she tweeted. “YOU B*TCHES IS SAD!!!! Little do y’all know. The more y’all hate. The more my insights go up Up index= MONEY!! I THANK YOU!!!!”

She also retweeted a fan who lamented about the twins being out with “civilians” and not being able to have peace because people want to “get some clout” by taking photos. “While you was on a flight heading home, I’m on a flight getting to the bag. F*ck outta here.” Check out the picture and the tweets below.
