Doja Cat Becomes First Rapper With Three Top-Ten Songs At Top 40 Radio

2021 has been the year of Doja Cat.

No matter where you look, no matter where you listen, you are bound to hear something by, or about, Doja Cat. From what feels like every TikTok to every playlist to every radio station, Doja is inescapable and is seemingly taking over music at a blistering pace.

With the release of Planet Her back in June, the “Say So” rapper cemented herself among the modern greats in terms of popularity and streaming numbers. Besides the ever-important TikTok success, Doja Cat is burning up the actual charts. With her album still sitting at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 and spending four months in the Top 10, and her recent de-throning of Drake as the rapper with the most monthly Spotify listeners, it’s clear that Doja is absolutely here to stay.

And despite her recent sentiments that is run down and overworked, Doja stays breaking records.

With “You Right” featuring The Weeknd landing at #6, “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA at #7 and “Need to Know” at #10, Doja Cat has just become the first rapper to secure three top-ten hits on the American Top 40 list.

Coming off the heels of passing Drake, hosting the VMAs and recently making her Austin City Limits debut, grabbing three top-ten spots on the Top 40 list feels like just another notch in Doja Cat’s figurative belt, but become the first rapper to do so is no small feat, especially considering that she is only the second artist ever to achieve this.

Having three songs in the Top 40’s Top 10 means that the entire country is going to continue to hear Doja Cat in their cars, in their workplaces and wherever has a radio. Combined with her repeated viral success, this accomplishment is sure to tighten her grip on music as a whole, and further her reputation as one of the greatest hitmakers of her generation.

What do you think of Doja grabbing three top-ten spots in the top 40? Let us know in the comments.

Kanye West Gets Judge’s Approval To Change Name To “Ye”: Report

The artist formerly known as Kanye West has officially changed his name to ‘Ye. According to Deadline, the rapper/producer has received a judge’s approval to change his name to ‘Ye after filing the request this past summer. The rapper filed a petition to change his name legally on Aug. 24th, citing personal reasons behind his decision. The name change means that Ye will no longer have a middle or last name, either.

His new name (which has practically been his nickname over the course of his career) also shares the title of his eighth studio album which he released in June 2018. Months later, the rapper announced that he would be changing his name to ‘Ye, though he didn’t go through with any sort of legal procedure until this past August.

During an interview with Big Boy, the rapper explained the reason why he called his album ye which contextualizes his decision to move forward with dropping a middle and last name. “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means ‘you.’ So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means ‘the only one,’ to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything,” he said during the interview.

It looks like Kanye West will likely be releasing new music under ‘Ye. How do you feel about the name change? Let us know in the comment section below.

Kanye West Flamed After Recent Photo With Patchy Hair Goes Viral

Kanye West’s recent trip overseas to Europe has been quite eventful. The legendary artist performed at an exclusive wedding in Venice, Italy, for which Beyoncé and JAY-Z were also in attendance. As he stepped back out onto the street though, Kanye was spotted wearing a pretty terrifying white mask, which looked like he was trying to emulate a Halloween horror film villain. With reactions continuing to pour out regarding Ye’s mask, a new picture has hit the internet of the artist and it’s possibly even stranger.

A recent picture of Ye at a McDonald’s in Sweden surfaced on the internet, seemingly showing the enigmatic celebrity with a new hairstyle. His patchy hairstyle is pretty perplexing, especially considering how much Ye loves fashion. Some people are suggesting that it looks like one of Ye’s toddlers cut his hair, and they’re not entirely far off. If one of Ye’s kids isn’t responsible for this, he might have taken some scissors and hacked off most of his hair himself. That, or he may have health issues when it comes to the texture and growth of his hair.

People have been reacting to Ye’s new look on social media, taking their guesses on what’s happening and whether or not this look is intentional. Others are asking why Ye was at a McDonald’s in Sweden when there are likely better options for him to try the country’s cuisine.

Take a look at some pictures below and let us know what you think.

Gucci Mane Adds Another 17 Songs For “So Icy Boyz (Deluxe)”

Gucci Mane doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves for his A&R abilities. Since his reign as the mixtape champ, he’s helped introduce key talent of this generation, working with the likes of Migos, Young Thug, and Nicki Minaj before they gained any sort of critical or commercial acclaim.

The re-launch of the 1017 empire has included new acts such as Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano who’ve made an incredible impression this year, despite their legal issues. The rapper released his latest project, So Icy Boyz on Friday, largely consisting of collaborations alongside his signees. And while most artists would wait until the weekend was over to drop off a deluxe edition of their project, Gucci commemorated 10/17 with an additional 17 songs. So Icy Boyz (Deluxe) is now 34 songs in total with new contributions from BigWalkDog, Bic Fizzle, Cootie, Big Scarr, Big 30, Enchanting, and Foogiano.

Nas Explains That Voice On ‘Who Killed It?’ From ‘Hip-Hop Is Dead’: ‘I Was Bingeing James Cagney Movies’

Although its premise has long since been disproven, Nas’ album Hip-Hop Is Dead was one of his most successful albums commercially and remains in the upper half of his catalog in fan esteem — except for one song, the 1930s gangster movie-influence “Who Killed It?” While it’s technically a creative and innovative approach to the storytelling tracks for which Nas is known and loved, the song does find the Queens icon employing a cartoonish, film-noir detective voice that still puts off hip-hop fans to this day.

On Sunday night’s episode of Desus & Mero on Showtime, the two New York natives finally confronted the rap legend to find out why he chose to go with such an eyebrow-raising technique. Surprisingly, Nas is game; he’s probably far too deep in his career to be defensive about 15-year-old albums, but he still has a pretty good sense of humor about it as he admits, “I wilded out. I was bingeing on James Cagney movies at the time… It was like a joke to do that record and then I left it on the album — it happens.”

This leads to a broader discussion about the importance of details in Nas’ storytelling over the years, as well as a light flex about Nas having time to watch Regis And Kathy Lee in the morning. Also discussed during the interview: Nas’ relationship with DMX, his restaurant chain Sweet Chick, and his latest endeavor, a brand of cigars.

DK Metcalf Calls Shannon Sharpe A “Lil Boy” On Twitter

DK Metcalf is one of the strongest wide receivers in the entire NFL and he has proven to be one of the fastest despite his tremendous size. With that being said, many Seahawks fans are relying on him to make big plays during these next few weeks, especially with Russell Wilson out of the lineup. Last night, the Seahawks played their first full game without Wilson, and Geno Smith almost led the team to a win, however, they ultimately lost in OT to the Steelers.

In the last play of regulation, Metcalf caught a pass, and instead of going out of bounds, he tried to press for more yards and ended up fumbling the ball. From there, his team recovered and everything worked out just fine as they went on to tie the game.

While the Seahawks didn’t lose because of the play, the whole sequence was questioned by Shannon Sharpe on Twitter, who thought Metcalf’s play was stupid. After the game, Metcalf saw these comments and clapped back at the Hall of Famer saying “Stop questioning me lil boy.”

This then led to a response from Sharpe, who went in on the young wide receiver, saying “Nothing to question. That was “DUMB ASS” play and your pride won’t let you admit it. “You” can’t question anything I’ve done. Pray your resume will be as complete as mine, PRAY. Enjoy the rest of your day.”

After all, Sharpe has three Super Bowls, a gold jacket, and is considered a Top 5 tight end of all time. With all of that in mind, there is no doubt that the Undisputed host has a right to these takes. As for Metcalf, perhaps he can use this as a learning experience.
