070 Shake On Living A Minimalistic Life: ‘Bro, Why The F*ck Do I Need A Billion Dollars?’

Earlier this month, 070 Shake dropped her much-anticipated album, You Can’t Kill Me. She recorded a portion of the album in Arizona over the course of six months, which she felt was a nice break from LA. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Shake detailed the process of making the album and distancing herself from social media.

When making this record, Shake kept the music in mind, as opposed to the sales and streaming numbers.

“I’m fine living how I live,” she said, “being minimal, not living above my means… I come from a place where I didn’t even know that Hollywood was a real place. I’m very grateful, and I don’t need too much. I want exactly what I need. With that, I’ma always be good. I’ll never fail.”

Additionally, Shake shared a story from tour that further reinforced her minimalistic principles.

“I just went to Brazil [for the South American leg of the tour] and gave a kid $100 and he threw everything he was selling that day, hugged his dad, and they jumped around,” Shake said. “We were watching them, literally crying, like, ‘Bro, why the f*ck do I need a billion dollars?’ That shit is crazy. I would never want a billion dollars to myself. Never. If I got a billion dollars, I’m not doing enough. I’m not giving enough in my life.”

070 Shake Releases The Haunting ‘Medicine’ Video

070 Shake’s has been rolling out her new album You Can’t Kill Me — the follow up 2020’s phenomenal Modus Vivendi — for a bit now. She released the promising singles “Web,” “Skin & Bones,” and the collaboration with Christine And The Queens for “Body.” Today, the record is finally out, and along with it she has unveiled a music video for her hypnotic, haunting song “Medicine.”

“We’re so attached to this physical world, it makes us more susceptible to being hurt,” 070 Shake said in a statement. “You can’t kill me because I’m more than my body. With each album, it’s like you’re being revealed more and more. You Can’t Kill Me shows how dedicated I am to being free within music… Feeling is the biggest ingredient of my music.”

She’s finishing up her headline North American tour next week with four nights in Los Angeles; it’s already a big year for her, but it’s going to get even bigger. She’s also famously dating Kehlani, who shared a tender depiction of their relationship in the recent music video for their song “Melt.”

Christine And The Queens and Kehlani are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

070 Shake Announces Her Second Album, ‘You Can’t Kill Me,’ And Premieres A New Single, ‘Skin And Bones’

070 Shake has announced her new album, You Can’t Kill Me, set for release later this year. Ahead of the album, she dropped a new single, “Skin And Bones,” on which, she delivers her signature, raspy vocals over rattling drums and spacey guitar licks.

In the song’s video, directed by Noah Lee, we see Shake begrudgingly model for a portrait, enjoy a diner breakfast with a Marilyn Monroe lookalike, and dance onstage wearing football padding as rain pours down.

Shake’s second album doesn’t have a release date yet, but is planned for release later this spring via G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam. She is set to go on tour later next month.
