WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns Diagnosed With Leukemia, Takes an Immediate Leave of Absence

WWE’s longest-running episodic television show in history is headed to Netflix. The sports entertainment giant has announced a deal with Netflix that will send the live wrestling show to the streaming platform in 2025.

The deal ends a three-decade run for Raw on linear television in a deal that is expected to pay the WWE $400 million a year over a five-year run. WWE is currently airing on USA network, under the NBCUniversal umbrella, in a deal that brings in $250-260 million per year.

WWE’s current showing on USA will end in Oct. 2024. A host for the program between October and January has not been announced.

“We are excited to have WWE Raw, with its huge and passionate multigenerational fan base, on Netflix,” said Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria. “By combining our reach, recommendations and fandom with WWE, we’ll be able to deliver more joy and value for their audiences and our members. Raw is the best of sports entertainment, blending great characters and storytelling with live action 52 weeks a year and we’re thrilled to be in this long-term partnership with WWE.”

“In its relatively short history, Netflix has engineered a phenomenal track record for storytelling,” said Nick Khan, WWE president. “We believe Netflix, as one of the world’s leading entertainment brands, is the ideal long-term home for Raw’s live, loyal, and ever-growing fan base.” 

“This deal is transformative,” added Mark Shapiro, president and COO of WWE parent company TKO. “It marries the can’t-miss WWE product with Netflix’s extraordinary global reach and locks in significant and predictable economics for many years. Our partnership fundamentally alters and strengthens the media landscape, dramatically expands the reach of WWE, and brings weekly live appointment viewing to Netflix.”

According to Variety, WWE recently sold the rights for Smackdown to NBCUniversal and USA network in a five-year, $1.4 billion deal. NXT will move to the CW at $20-25 million yearly at the five-year mark.

WWE’s Liv Morgan Arrested On Possession Charges

Liv Morgan, a high-profile wrestler in the WWE, has been arrested on a marijuana possession charge in Florida. Morgan was initially pulled over by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department after being spotted driving haphazardly. After being pulled over, Morgan’s vehicle was searched after a deputy said he smelled marijuana. Deputies confiscated “less than 20 grams” of marijuana along with a vape pen believed to contain cannabis oil. Morgan was later released on a $3000 bond.

Morgan has wrestled for various WWE promotions since 2015. She is a former SmackDown Women’s Champion and two-time Women’s Tag Team champion. She is currently part of the RAW brand after being selected by the promotion in the 2023 WWE Draft. Morgan has also recently broken into acting. She had a small role in the Uma Thurman-Samuel L. Jackson comedy The Kill Room earlier this year. She also appeared in a small role on an episode of Chucky. The promotion is yet to issue a statement about her arrest.

However, Morgan isn’t the only wrestler, or wrestler-adjacent individual, to feel the wrath of the Florida police this year. In November, Hulk Hogan’s son was arrested for a DUI. Police in Clearwater detained Nick Hogan for driving under the influence and refusing a sobriety test. Tracing the 33-year-old’s movements, his social media activity appears to indicate that he had attended a bikini contest at his father’s restaurant in the hours before the arrest.

However, the location of his arrest is notable. In 2007, a then-17-year-old Nick was involved in a serious car crash in the area. Nick pled no contest to reckless driving involving serious bodily harm and would serve eight months in prison. Furthermore, while Nick was mostly fine, the same couldn’t be said for his passenger. John Graziano, who was a serving US Marine at the time, was left with significant brain trauma. His family sued and later settled out of court with the Hogans.

The race at the top of the Big 12 has been one of the tightest in college football this season. Without any divisions to separate the teams, the top two finishers after the regular season compete in the championship game. As it stands, with two games left to play, #7 Texas is in sole command of first place at 9-1 (6-1 Big 12), with only a loss to Oklahoma blemishing their record this season. Logan Paul celebrated his recent WWE title win with an impromptu series of thirst traps. Entitled “Champ Life”, the series of images shows Paul cuddling the belt in bed, smoking a cigar in a cowboy hat with the belt, wearing it at the gym, and using it to remain with Instagram’s ToS while in the shower. Paul was crowned the new WWE US Champion after taking down Rey Mysterio at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia last weekend. It was an antic-filled match, which saw Paul utilize brass knuckles amongst other tools to take down the Mexican veteran. Paul’s first title comes just over two years after he made his WWE debut. Furthermore, the title comes in just his eighth pro wrestling match.

However, Paul appeared to imply that the title meant a greater focus on the promotion for him. “I think I have to,” Paul said of spending more time on WWE programming. “You’re going to have to watch Raw. You’re going to have to watch SmackDown. I’m going to make some surprise appearances and show these wrestlers who’s the real king.” It’s unclear who his first title defense could come against. That said, everyone from Dominik Mysterio to Bad Bunny has been named as a potential opponent.

Meanwhile, PRIME, the energy drink owned by Paul and KSI, has reportedly sold 1 billion units. “We’ve officially sold 1,000,000,000 bottles — a hydration milestone we couldn’t have reached without you. Thank you for making PRIME the fastest growing beverage in history,” the drink’s official account wrote on social media. The milestone was reached in just 22 months, after Paul and KSI launched the brand in January 2022. While popular, it has been panned by many critics for its foul taste. Gordon Ramsay gave the drink a 0/10 rating after it comparing it to “swallowing perfume”.

“What is life” Paul wrote on his own account, seemingly stunned at his own brand’s successful. However, PRIME has become a major part of all of Paul’s endeavors. During one of his WWE events, he participated in a skit that saw KSI dress up like a giant bottle of PRIME. Meanwhile, their recent joint boxing card was officially dubbed “The PRIME Card” by broadcaster DAZN. If Paul or KSI is involved in something, it’s a fair bet that PRIME is involved as well.

Tonight was hard. I’m telling you, bro. I’m winded. I feel like I really earned this. So, I see these comments online. ‘Logan Paul, spoon-fed, silver spoon in his mouth. Everything’s been given to him his whole life. He hasn’t earned it.’ I would do more in 12 hours than most people do in 12 months. My blueprint cannot be duplicated, bro. My pace is unmatched. I’m not playing the same game as the other people. I’ve beaten the matrix and I’m the architect,” Paul said.

Last month, in the days after their controversial boxing match, Danis filed an appeal against the fight result. However, Paul was dismissive of the former MMA fighter. “Embarrassing & desperate. What’s the appeal? He tried to take me down – failed, he tried to choke me out – failed. He didn’t even try to fight back, he just took his ass beating like a bitch. Dude really thinks he can handle everything online. He should just accept the loss like a man & move on with his pathetic life,” Paul wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to the news. Furthermore, over half of the DAZN Prime Card matches are currently under investigation for an appeal.

After about seven years outside of the ring, The Rock made his comeback appearance at Friday Night SmackDown last night (September 15). Of course, this wasn’t a surprise to many fans who knew that an announcement from SmackDown meant that he’d be cooking up again. Still, the sheer energy when his music started, and fans cheered him on, was pretty cool to see. Before he emerged, Pat McAfee kicked the whole thing off, and Austin Theory interrupted him by talking some smack about the show. But McAfee said that SmackDown is “the people’s show,” and that’s when the pro wrestling legend made his return.

Furthermore, he and Theory got into it right after The Rock started a “You are an a**hole” chant against him. Not only that, but the 51-year-old had to treat the crowd to some signature moves, and hit Theory with a People’s elbow and a spine buster. In fact, he even prompted Pat McAfee to give the former a shot, and swapped out the lead character role for a coach. To top it all off, The Rock grabbed one of Theory’s shoes and threw it into the stands, much to the viewers’ delight both in-person and on social media, where people reacted wildly to the appearance.
