DC The Don Performs His Chaotic Single ‘Enemies’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Milwaukee rapper DC The Don looks more like a basketball player than a rising music star. That’s due to his height — he’s 6’7″ — as well as the fact that he actually did play AAU hoops alongside a few future NBA stars in Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo Ball. However, he chose rap over ball, combining punk and pop sensibilities to create a unique, chaotic style that has been garnering attention since 2017. His career’s truly taken off in the past few years thanks to a recording contract with Rostrum Records and viral hits like 2020’s “Worst Day.”

Performing his new song “Enemies” from his February album My Own Worst Enemy, DC brings all that chaotic energy to the UPROXX Sessions stage. Don’t let his laconic demeanor fool you; this song is designed to make crowds go crazy at a festival near you.

Virginia Rapper Yvngxchris Vaunts His Wins With ‘Damn Homie’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

At just 17 years old, Chesapeake, Virginia rapper Yvngxchris is already making quite the name for himself. His songs have become TikTok staples, his YouTube music videos have amassed millions of views, and fellow Virginia native Pusha T has taken him under his wing, managing his burgeoning career. Now, he’s signed to Columbia Records, home of past notable teen sensations like Lil Tjay, Polo G, and Lil Nas X.

In his UPROXX Sessions debut, Yvngxchris aims to make an impression with a high-energy performance of his tongue-twisting song, “Damn Homie.” It’s sort of reminiscent of influences like Comethazine and Ski Mask The Slump God, with a dash of Playboi Carti’s screwball energy. Meanwhile, the high school-aged rapper litters his rapid-fire verses with brain-bending rhyme patterns and smirk-inducing punchlines, showing that he’s got his own unique take on the SoundCloud-inspired style that is making him a favorite of the TikTok generation.

Australian Singer Rini Brings The Sensitive ‘Talk To Me’ To ‘UPROXX Sessions’

UPROXX Sessions goes global (again) with Australian R&B singer Rini, who brings a silky performance of his sensitive track “Talk To Me” to the set. Rocking a snakeskin-patterned shirt, Rini shows off his smooth falsetto as he sings of a simmering attraction and prepares to make his play.

Rini got his start busking on the streets of Melbourne before putting out the self-released After The Sun EP and embarking on an Austrailian tour in 2018. Then, in 2019, he relocated to Los Angeles, looking to truly break out on an international scale. In 2020, he told DJ Booth he wants to bring Melbourne’s diverse culture to the US, while also opening up opportunities for the R&B scene back home. He certainly has the chops for it; as demonstrated on singles like the Earthgang featuring “Out Of The Blue” and “Red Lights” with Wale.

RXK Nephew Boasts His Street Credentials In His ‘C.A.N.D.Y.’ Performance For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Rochester rapper RXK Nephew brings chaotic energy to a wild performance of his song “C.A.N.D.Y.” for the latest episode of UPROXX Sessions.

A burgeoning underground favorite, Nephew raps with a booming, gripping voice and a crashing, waterfall-esque approach to rhythm. His lines tumble out in a rush, like he can’t wait to get to the next overstuffed bar, packing in as many syllables as he can pronounce and still be legible. He uses much the same approach to his music releases, dropping song after song, tape after tape in what appears to be an effort to become the most prolific rapper not just today, but of all time. His shock raps are reminiscent of ’90s horrorcore, chock-full of off-the-wall references and threats, but fall out of his head in true stream of consciousness form. He’s the perfect rapper for the hyperactive, meme-informed era we live in today.

Houston’s Sally Sossa Performs The Combative ‘Just Say Dat’ For ‘Uproxx Sessions’

Houston’s own Sally Sossa drops by UPROXX Sessions this week to perform her combative single “Just Say Dat,” joining a string of strong female performers over the past few weeks that have included Kali, Autumn Corin, and Baby Tate. Sossa’s single, which appears on her March mixtape 4ever Sossa, finds the battle-tested Southerner dismissing haters, telling them to talk about their real problems instead of her.

Sossa’s been a fixture of Uproxx’s Best New Hip-Hop This Week column since December of 2020 when she dropped her mixtape Life Of Sossa, impressing alongside other breakout female rappers like Lakeyah and Latto. She was also one of the artists who was selected to contribute an exclusive track to Madden NFL 22‘s soundtrack and megamix campaign, representing her hometown Houston Texans with the boisterous “Number One.”

Baby Tate’s ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Of ‘S.H.O.’ Lets Her Freak Flag Fly

UPROXX cover artist Baby Tate lets her freak flag fly in the latest UPROXX Sessions, gracing the stage to perform her raunchy new single, “S.H.O.” Break out the headphones because this one is certainly not safe for work — or polite company in general.

Tate dropped the song in February, just days after Valentine’s Day. The timing couldn’t have been a coincidence, as the song dismisses romantic feelings in favor of a fling with no strings attached.

The Atlanta rapper has been on a run lately, releasing “S.H.O.” shortly after making an appearance on JID’s new single “Surround Sound” alongside 21 Savage. She also recently released “Pedi,” building on the success of her 2020 EP, After The Rain.

Autumn Corin Encourages A ‘Sneaky Link’ In Her Smooth ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

This week, UPROXX Sessions welcomes R&B singer-songwriter Autumn Corin to the bathroom stage, marking the first time an R&B act has appeared on the show. After rappers like Kali and AzizTheShake have formed the backbone of the series, Corin expands the scope of UPROXX Sessions with her smooth ode to no-strings-attached relationships, “Sneaky Link.” Warning her friend with benefits not to tell his friends, she sings the praises of stepping out and keeping things on the low with a partner who gets the job done but isn’t exactly marriage material.

Autumn is signed to Zooted Music, the record label founded by fellow UPROXX Sessions alum DDG. The singer-songwriter is currently pursuing a degree in Music Business from Berklee College of Music, and splits her time between Los Angeles and Charlotte, North Carolina. “Sneaky Link” is her first release of 2022, and she’s previously garnered attention for her standalone singles “Unbothered” and “On Your Mind” featuring DDG, as well as her covers of hits like Muni Long’s “Hrs And Hrs” on TikTok.

Kali Is A Cool Customer While Performing Her ‘Toxic Chocolate’ Standout ‘New Day’ On ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Fast-rising ATL rapper Kali stops by the UPROXX Sessions set to pump the release of her debut EP, Toxic Chocolate, with a self-assured performance of the EP’s standout track, “New Day.” Questioning the negative energy of her detractors and exes while boldly asserting her own dominance, Kali reminds listeners that “it’s a new day,” so they should shake off those downer vibes and stop being surprised by her longevity as the topic of discussion.

Toxic Chocolate, Kali’s seven-song debut EP, capitalizes on the TikTok buzz of her breakout single “MMM MMM,” with a remix of the track featuring ATL Jacob, Latto, and Moneybagg Yo, while also demonstrating Kali’s talent for turning the tables on f*ckboys by using their own tactics against them. The EP also features “Whole Lotta Money” rapper BIA, who also received a tremendous boost from the video-sharing platform, and Yung Bleu on the EP’s dynamic-flipping single, “UonU.”

While Kali is experiencing a bump in attention from the TikTok success of “MMM MMM,” her remix collaborator Latto is helping out by bringing her along as the opener on the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour this month. With so many factors in her favor, it won’t be long until Kali is every bit the household name her fellow Atlantan sh*t-talker is.

AzizTheShake Performs The Boastful ‘Toledo’ On ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Today’s episode of UPROXX Sessions features Nashua, New Hampshire native AzizTheShake, who comes through with a boastful, supremely confident performance of his upbeat single, “Toledo.”

The rapper/producer — whose name is a reference to a scene from Bruce Willis’ 1997 sci-fi cult classic The Fifth Element — recently executive produced fellow UPROXX Sessions alum BIA’s 2020 EP For Certain (as well as its deluxe edition), contributing beats for the songs “Automatic” featuring Doe Boy and 42 Dugg, “Bia Bia,” “Cover Girl,” and “Plate.” The New Englander has also worked with Black Fortune, Giggs, J. Cole, Jazz Cartier, Rob Stone, Sevyn Streeter, and Tommy Genesis.

On the solo tip, he’s released one album, 2019’s Brandt Theater, and released two new singles this year: “Toledo,” which features Jiles and Meech BOLD on the original version, and “Image of God” alongside Luke Bars. As he branches out, stepping from behind the boards to center stage to display his mic skills, his performance here forecasts the potential for a big breakout thanks to his infectious energy and witty wordplay.

Chris Patrick Celebrates His Wins With A Rapid-Fire ‘Up Now’ Performance On ‘UPROXX Sessions’

New Jersey rapper Chris Patrick may have a relatively unassuming nom de plume, but when he steps to the mic to perform his song “Up Now” for the latest episode of UPROXX Sessions, his star power becomes evident. Coolly switching from punchy, rapid-fire rhymes to crystal-clear crooning, he proves to be proficient at both rapping and singing, all while showing off quick-witted wordplay revealing a quirky worldview that complements his deceptive rap name.

“Sunroof down so the rays hit the melanin,” he smirks. “Spun through town tryna bathe in the element.”

Patrick might be flying under the radar now, but with co-signs from the likes of Black Thought and JID, the lanky East Orange MC’s time in the sun might not be metaphorical for very much longer (well, yeah, it still will be but it’ll mean something different). His 2020 album, From The Heart, Vol. 2 has drawn comparisons to early efforts from relatable rap everymen such as J. Cole and Saba, which bodes well for his earnest, down-to-earth approach. Working with Deante Hitchcock on Deante’s new EP and building his buzz with tracks like “Up Now” and “Gang Activity,” expect to see Chris Patrick to not only elevate to radar level but fly high as his career takes off in 2022.
