JL LEGEND Final

LEGEND, John Legend’s eagerly awaited eighth studio album, will be released on September 9th via Republic Records. “Until this point, I’ve never used an aspect of my name as the title of an album,” Legend said. “I had to earn that, to live up to it by delivering in the performance and the music. And this is me saying, I’m proud of who I am, I’m confident in the work I’ve done, and I’m just going to declare it.”

As part of the announcement, Legend also dropped the project’s most recent track, “All She Wanna Do,” which features Grammy Award-nominated rapper Saweetie. The song was co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder, Monsters and Strangerz, Zach Sketon, Andrew DeRoberts, and Halatrax. It is instantly catchy and totally uplifting.

The second part of Legend’s critically lauded residency, “Love in Las Vegas,” also began today. August 5 through October 20 and October 14 through October 29 are the residency’s dates.

Louisiana Judge Denies Mystikal Bond

Mystikal denied bond

A Louisiana judge has denied rapper Mystikal bond following his recent arrest and charges of first-degree rape and battery.

According to Baton Rouge’s The Advocate, on Tuesday, State District Judge Steven Tureau ruled against Mystikal, citing evidence that the 51-year-old artist’s past history and the victim’s fears met the standard for holding him without bail.

Mystikal (real name Michael Tyler) was arrested over the weekend and has been charged with three felonies and two misdemeanors including first-degree rape, domestic abuse battery (strangulation) and simple robbery.

The artist’s defense attorney, Roy Maughan Jr., originally asked for $250,000 bond, claiming that his client is innocent of the most recent charges, including rape and domestic abuse battery by strangulation. Maughan claimed that Mystikal had never missed a court date for his prior court issues and that being a celebrity would make him an unlikely flight risk due to his inability to avoid recognition and subsequent capture.

However, Judge Tureau disagreed. Mystikal served six years in prison after pleading guilty in 2003 to sexual battery. In 2016, he faced rape and kidnapping charges which kept him in jail for 18 months. However, in December 2020, prosecutors in Louisiana’s Caddo Parish dropped the rape and kidnapping charges. He was not convicted of a number of other charges that had been brought against him in the last several decades, including marijuana possession and misdemeanor domestic violence charges.

Maughan stated to The Advocate that his client would probably not appeal the bond ruling

Kendrick Lamar Shares 50 Photos of Big Steppers Tour on Instagram

Kendrick Lamar Big Steppers Tour 1

Kendrick Lamar may be in the middle of his “Big Steppers” tour, but he’s apparently not too busy performing to share his perception of his experience with fans. The artist took to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon where he uploaded 50 artistic photos of his recent tour along with a heartfelt and introspective message to his fans about his artistic struggles and motivation.

He uploaded the photos in just over an hour with no captions. Most of the photos, which appear to have been shot by a professional photographer, show Lamar performing a variety of his hits, often with dazzling special effects in the background. However, some are close crops of his outfits or props while others are silouhettes and wide panoramic shots that would look almost abstract if viewed too quickly.

While the photos did not have captions, the photo dump was accompanied by a heartfelt message in which he described his artistic struggle to create “Mother I Sober,” a song off his latest album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The story read:

“ngl jesus jojo and mary. took a n**** 20 years to find mother i sober. rap has truly helped my expansion of self. beyond the perception of who I believe to be. on jojo. music is air to a young n**** at this point. mr. morale. the catalyst of my self expression. ill never forget the process of falling in love with imperfection. the piano. my fans. the stories of reconciliation i hear from penitentiaries to small villages. Some will find you in 10. find your children type sh**. sitting in like an old book. im forever underground. infiltrating the mainstream a la carte. these cities still beautiful to watch. on jojo. ily -ok ok!”

Iman Shumpert Arrested For Felony Weed Possession In Dallas

Iman Shumpert Slam Dunks on his Funk Flex Freestyle

NBA star Iman Shumpert was arrested for felony weed possession in a Dallas airport earlier today, Aug. 3.

According to TMZ, officers were alerted of a possible drug violation and responded to it around 2:40 P.M. after TSA agents confiscated a “green leafy substance” in Shumpert’s bag. The NBA star then admitted that it was weed.

Authorities say the weed weighed 6.12 ounces and Shumpert tested positive for marijuana usage.

Shumpert was set to board a Delta flight back to Los Angeles at 3 P.M., but was told by the responding officer that he would not be making his flight, and was then arrested for possession of marijuana. He was then transported to the airport jail.

The charge is classified as a “state jail felony” and if convicted, Shumpert could be looking at up to 2 years behind bars, and a $10,000 fine.

Authorities also claim that a Glock magazine and 14 9mm bullets were also found in Shumpert’s bag, even though no firearm could be found.

This story is still developing.

Tyga’s ‘Ay Caramba’ Apology Interview Sparks Protest After Videos Surface Of Interviewer Calling Black People “Coons” and “Ghetto N*ggers”

Tyga Reunites With Kardashians at 'On The Run' Concert

Tyga recently apologized for the Mexican community for his “Ay Caramba” music video in an interview with American Cholo podcast host Gil Tejada. However, the interview was taken down and has since sparked a protest of the radio station after video surfaced of Tejada calling Black people “ghetto coons” and “n*ggers.”

Yesterday, film director Tariq Nasheed took to IG to call for a protest in front of the Power 106 station. “The community is #PullingUp outside #Power106 #radio station in #Los Angeles tomorrow (Weds. Aug 3rd) to call them out for giving a platform to anti-Black racists. If you are in #LA, everyone come thru,” he wrote.

Following backlash from the Mexican community for his “Ay Caramba” music video, Tyga had sat down with American Cholo podcast host Gil Tejada where the the host was able to speak to Tyga about how racially insensitive the video was. On his own podcast, Tejada blasted Tyga and even called for violence against the west coast rapper.

The interview itself was taken down by Power 106 after a video surfaced of interviewer Gil Tejada calling Black people “ghetto coons” and “n*ggers.” Tejada even pulled up on No Jumper podcast host Adam22 to tell him to take the video down.

However, after the video was taken down by Power 106, the station failed to issue an apology to the Black community for giving a platform to Tejada despite his racist and derogatory remarks.

“I had no intentions to offend anybody,” Tyga said in his interview. “If people are offended, I really apologize. If I do a show, 50 percent of the crowd on he west coast is Mexican. If they’re hurt, I’m hurt.”

Tyga added, “At the end of the day, I’m not Mexican, so I can’t say what Mexicans are offended by or not. But I know I had no intentions of offending anybody. For one, I want to apologize to the Mexican community and my fans that are Mexican. I have a lot of Latin fans that are Puerto Rican, Dominican, that probably weren’t offended by this video. But my Mexicans fans in L.A., there definitely was some that were offended.”

Chaka Khan Says She’s Still Upset About How Kanye Sampled Her Vocals For “Through the Wire”

Chaka Khan Denies Sleeping With Rick James 'He Was Too Worn'

Its been almost 20 years since Kanye dropped his debut album, The College Dropout. The lead single for the album was “Through The Wire” which Ye recorded with his jaw wired shut following a near fatal car crash. The song itself features a sample from Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire” and is pitched up to give it that signature “chipmunk” sound.

Ever since the “Through the Wire” was released, Chaka Khan has gone on record to say that she hates the song, especially how Kanye pitched up her vocals to sound like a “chipmunk.” In a new interview with Good Day DC she doubled, maybe even tripled down on her previous comments, letting it be known just how much she hates that song.

The singer was asked if she’s heard from Kanye after having voiced her disapproval on the song. “I’m not looking to hear from Kanye, either,” she said. “No, I’ve not heard from him and I’m not looking to hear from him. That’s what he did. That’s what he did with his music. I was upset about sounding like a chipmunk, ’cause he didn’t put that when he asked [if] he could use my, sample my song. He didn’t mention that he was gonna speed it up three times its normal speed.”

Khan added that had Kanye told her of his plans with the sample then she probably would have denied him his request. She also stated that Kanye is the reason why she artists specify exactly what they intend to do with her music when trying to sample it.

You can watch the interview here.

On this date in 2000, Big L’s posthumous album The Big Picture was released on Rawkus Records. The LP was originally slated as the late Lamont Coleman’s debut album, but L was tragically murdered in Harlem while the album was in production.

The album was produced by DJ Premier, Ron Browz, Ron G, Lord Finesse, Pete Rock, Shomari, Mike Heron, Ysae, and Showbiz and features appearances from Fat Joe, Guru, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane and the late Tupac Shakur.

Big L is regarded as one of the games best emcees that never got their chance in the spotlight, however, because of his ability to foresee great talent, he was the one who introduced Jay-Z as a force in 90s era crime rhyme, which dominated NYC Hip Hop via the Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show in 89.9 FM in 1995.

Big up to the Rawkus team, the entire DITC and Big L himself for this eternal Hip Hop classic!
