Tyler The Creator’s “CHROMAKOPIA” Secures Yet Another Week At No. 1 On Billboard

Tyler The Creator faced some mockery on the Internet for dropping his album on a Monday, but he ended up having his best commercial performance to date. Moreover, CHROMAKOPIA now spends its third week atop the Billboard 200 albums chart with 104K album-equivalent units sold in the week ending November 14, according to Billboard and Luminate. This now became the longest-running chart-topping LP from the Hawthorne native. The previous slot was for CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST in two separate weeks in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Streaming pushed most of these new numbers, although physical album sales and box sets also provided a boost.

What’s more is that this continued commercial success for CHROMAKOPIA comes as Tyler, The Creator is kicking off its live success for his upcoming tour. Following some smaller shows and listening parties, he closed out day one of his Camp Flog Gnaw carnival and festival at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium on Saturday night (November 16). It was the first time that the former Odd Future frontman performed many cuts off of the new project in a more formal, setlist-driven, full stage production setting with a massive audience, and it was a stellar main debut. Special guests included Doechii, Daniel Caesar, ScHoolboy Q, and even a twerk-off with Sexyy Red for “Sticky.” Better find a mop… Because they gave it their all, and someone has to clean up the sweat.

Tyler The Creator Goes No. 1 Again With CHROMAKOPIA

In addition to all this, Tyler, The Creator also contributed to another amazing last-quarter hip-hop album that adds to his achievements this week. He lent a small but welcome feature to Maxo Kream’s new project Personification, which you should absolutely spin right now if you haven’t already.

Meanwhile, Tyler, The Creator expressed his gratitude to fans a lot since CHROMAKOPIA dropped a few weeks ago, and you can tell this particular era and rollout for him is very special. It makes us even more excited to continue to dive in and enjoy the ride, and with his world tour on the way in 2025, we’re sure that we will be enjoying these new tracks for a long time.

Tyler The Creator Throws It Back With Sexyy Red In Wild Camp Flog Gnaw Performance Clip

Tyler The Creator wrapped up day one of his Camp Flog Gnaw festival at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium yesterday (Saturday, November 16), and let’s just say it was absolutely electric. And gooey, but we feel like there’s a better word for that. In addition to a killer performance, the Hawthorne native also brought out some very special guests, including ScHoolboy Q, Doechii, Daniel Caesar, and the one and only Sexyy Red. She came out to perform her CHROMAKOPIA collab “Sticky” and threw it back for the roaring crowd, with Tyler hyping her up and even twerking beside her before Lil Wayne’s verse, who was sadly not present.

It’s the wrap-up for a great week for Tyler, The Creator, as his new album went No. 1 again and might even snag a third week atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. However, that doesn’t mean that the past few days didn’t roll around without some challenges. He recently had a not-so-friendly interaction with pestering paparazzi at GQ‘s Men Of The Year party in Los Angeles. We can’t blame T for feeling paranoid, even though that song is about more than just people obsessed with your fame.

It’s also great to see Sexyy Red have fun and show off with someone as big as Tyler, The Creator, although her superstardom came as no surprise to some of the culture’s OGs. “‘You a motherf***ing star,’” Snoop Dogg recently recalled telling her when they first met. “‘You got star power. I love you.’ She said, ‘Unc, you real as a motherf***er.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I f**k with you, cuz.’ We partying, having a good time. And I said, ‘One thing about me. I’m from the old generation, but I don’t hate on y’all. I may critique, but when I see y’all, I’ma give you love.’ And I’ma tell you face to face, ‘You doing an amazing job. Here’s some things you could do better.’ But I’m never going to say, ‘You wack, you garbage, you trash, you f***ing the industry.’ I’m never going to say that.”

Meanwhile, Tyler, The Creator has one more day of Camp Flog Gnaw to impress with, and we’re sure it will be an amazing time. Once it’s all over, he will likely continue to engage with fans about CHROMAKOPIA and keep the excitement up for more spectacular performances on the way.

Tyler The Creator’s beloved Camp Flog Gnaw festival is coming right up, as the 2024 edition is set for November 16 and 17. If you can’t make it out to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles for one reason or another, though, there’s good news: You can watch the festivities online.

How To Watch Camp Flog Gnaw 2024 Online

The event will be streamed via Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch, starting at 3 p.m. PT on November 16 and 17. This is the second consecutive year that Amazon Music has been the exclusive livestreaming home of the fest.

For those interested in attending in person, though, it may be too late: Tickets are currently sold out, but there is a waitlist on the Camp Flog Gnaw website, which will notify users if any tickets become available.

Last month, organizers rolled out the Camp Flog Gnaw lineup in a fun way, by inviting fans to complete a crossword puzzle, all of the answers of which were artists on this year’s lineup. The roster ended up featuring Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Denzel Curry, Doechii, Kaytranada, DJ Mustard, Raye, Laila!, The Alchemist, Action Bronson, Concrete Boys, Blood Orange, Tommy Richman, Sampha, Faye Webster, and a number of others.

This Friday, November 15, Maxo Kream will release his fourth (or eighth, if you were to ask him) studio album, Personification. The rollout for the album has included the release of his singles “Talkin In Screw” featuring That Mexican OT and “Cracc Era” featuring Tyler The Creator, and a few guest features with the likes of Denzel Curry, with whom Maxo collaborated on “Set It.” Curry also appears on the tracklist for Personification, which Maxo shared this week, and also has appearances from fellow Texan BigXthaPlug, Houston rap legend Z-Ro, rising starts Rob49 and Skilla Baby, and Maxo’s brother, who has renamed himself Josh Kream.

Also, earlier this week, Maxo broke down the philosophy behind his new album with a short film shared to Twitter (which I will never call “X”). In the caption, Maxo writes, “Emekwanem. Trigga Maxo. Maxo C. All me all in one. I’ve had it all and lost it all. Thankful for my angels and I regret nothing. I’m still here dropping albums and my new one comes this Friday.”

Maxo Kream Reveals Loaded Tracklist For New Album “Personification”

Maxo Kream is in a groove. The rapper has build up a fanbase over the last several years, but it feels as though he’s on the cusp of a commercial breakthrough. The hype has never been more deafening than it has been for his upcoming album, Personification. Part of the reason is that Kream is honing his skills as an artist, and simply getting better. The other part is that the singles for Personification have been stellar across the board. Maxo Kream has been working with some of the most exciting rappers in the game and holding his own. Now, we have the album tracklist.

Maxo Kream is not making the mistake that so many of his genre peers make. Personification is a tight 14 songs, ensuring that it will not overstay its welcome. The solo singles are accounted for here, like the soft and contemplative “Bang the Bus” and the retro-sounding “Big Hoe Me.” It’s the collabs, however, that’ll draw most of the attention. Tyler, The Creator and That Mexican OT shined on “Cracc Era” and “Talkin In Screw,” respectively. Both songs were released ahead of the album, and prove that Maxo Kream can slip into any style and vibe imaginable. The star power continues on the songs that have yet to be released.

Tyler, The Creator lends his musical talents to the aforementioned “Cracc Era.” Hit-Boy, meanwhile, will produce “Smokey.” Other established names like Nick Grand, Beat Butcha and Cubeatz pop up in the credits.

Tyler The Creator’s ‘Mask Is Off’ In A Compilation Of Behind-The-Scenes Clips From The Making Of ‘Chromakopia’

Over the past few years, Tyler The Creator has seemingly become more and more interested in publicly sharing parts of his creative process with his fans and followers, and that trend continues with his new album Chromakopia. After securing the No. 1 Billboard spot for the second week in a row, Tyler posted a video of behind-the-scenes clips from the album’s recording process titled “Mask Is Off” — a reference to a song from the album called “Take Your Mask Off.”

Like the song, which contains a vulnerable look at some of Tyler’s insecurities with its admonishment to listeners to be their true selves, “Mask Is Off” finds Tyler baring parts of his process he’s previously admitted to being shy about, such as his singing. We also see his production work, instrumentation, engineering, and collaboration, as he works out bars, beats, choruses, and melodies, both in his own private bubble and with collaborators like Daniel Caesar and Thundercat. (The recording for “Sticky” looks like the most fun anyone’s ever had in a recording booth since the ’80s.)

Speaking of Tyler’s creative process, you can check out Uproxx’s story on Silent House, the production house behind Tyler’s unique stage shows, ahead of this weekend’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles.

You can watch “Mask Is Off” above.

Tyler, The Creator Claims No. 1 Spot Again with ‘CHROMAKOPIA’

CHROMAKOPIA

Tyler, The Creator’s eighth studio album, CHROMAKOPIA, has secured the No. 1 spot on the charts for the second consecutive week, moving 160,000 equivalent album units in the U.S.

Tyler’s chart-topping streak began with his critically acclaimed 2019 album IGOR, which marked his first No. 1 debut. He notched a back-to-back No. 1 week with Call Me If You Get Lost.

Additionally, CHROMAKOPIA landed six tracks on the US Top Songs chart. Standouts include “ST. CHROMA” (#10), “THOUGHT I WAS DEAD” (#12), and the fan-favorite “Noid” (#17), accompanied by a popular music video. Tyler now ranks #3 on the US Top Artists chart, fueled by his fresh release and the viral resurgence of his 2017 hit “See You Again” featuring Kali Uchis, which has climbed to #5 on US Top Songs on Shorts thanks to a revived dance trend.

CHROMAKOPIA

Tyler, the Creator, is taking a victory lap as his latest album, CHROMAKOPIA, tops the Billboard 200 charts. Highlighting the achievement on Instagram, Tyler wrote: “300k. on a Monday morning. Thank you to every listener.”

Stories • Instagram 11 04 2024 04 41 PM

Tyler, the Creator has scored his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as his latest release, CHROMAKOPIA, lands at the top of the chart dated Nov. 9. The album launched with 299,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first four days, marking the artist’s biggest debut week yet and the sixth-largest debut of 2024.

Released on an unusual Monday (Oct. 28) following its Oct. 17 announcement, CHROMAKOPIA achieved Tyler’s strongest streaming and sales weeks to date. Its success would have made it No. 1 based solely on streaming or sales alone. With 157,000 SEA units and 212.55 million on-demand streams, it tops the Top Streaming Albums chart, while 142,000 album sales earned it the No. 1 spot on the Top Album Sales chart.

CHROMAKOPIA includes an 11-song standard edition and two expanded 14-song versions with features from artists like Sexyy Red, Lil Wayne, Doechii, and Santigold. Vinyl sales also reached 66,000, marking Tyler’s best vinyl week and the third-largest vinyl debut for a rap album since tracking began in 1991.

Tyler’s latest release cements his influence in music. It follows his previous No. 1 albums, Call Me If You Get Lost (2021) and Igor (2019), bringing his total to seven top-ten-charting albums.

Tyler The Creator Tops The Charts Again With “CHROMAKOPIA” Amid Hilarious Fan Interactions

Tyler The Creator continues to find massive success with CHROMAKOPIA. The new album hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week (dated November 16) with 160K second-week sales according to Billboard and Luminate. As such, it’s his first chart-topping album to repeat the feat in two consecutive weeks, as CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST went No. 1 once in 2021 and then another time none months later in 2022. It’s the Hawthorne native’s third number one LP overall, including 2019’s IGOR. Also, this was the CHROMAKOPIA‘s first full tracking week, since its Monday morning release resulted in a shortened first tracking week.

Of course, that didn’t stop Tyler, The Creator from getting his most successful commercial performance to date, and it looks like it still won’t stop it from continuing to garner spins. But beyond the numbers game, he’d much rather interact with fans online and talk about what they loved or didn’t love about CHROMAKOPIA. The Odd Future founder asked his followers on Twitter what moments from the album grew on them over time. One fan said that “Sticky” took a few listens to stick, for which he had a hilarious response. “No lie lmfao I realized folks that don’t like that song wear sunscreen by default hahahahaha (I’m generalizing),” T penned.

Tyler The Creator Jokes About The Reception To “Sticky”

What’s more is that this narrative might trigger some fans that weren’t happy with Tyler, The Creator’s remarks on white participation in hip-hop. He didn’t blast it outright, but he did call out that small but vocal minority that seeks to mock and exploit the Black art form rather than respect it, and who gets mad when people call them out for it.

Nevertheless, Tyler, The Creator has a lot to be grateful for regarding CHROMAKOPIA‘s success not just on the charts, but with fellow music lovers. “Real growth, though. Real growth, bro,” he told a Brooklyn crowd during a concert. “I’m not – Listen, I didn’t pick this s**t up ’cause it was cute. I’ve been making music since before I had hair on my d**k, bro. I love this s**t, always have. […] So to keep that, and for the s**t to just continue to do this, 13 years in my career, n***a, how amazing is that? So much gratitude sits under this hubris and this confidence and what they call arrogance. But I really put in the work. So everybody who listened to the album, again, thank you so much.”

Tyler The Creator is a bona fide troll and proud of it. But the “Take Your Mask Off” rapper’s sense of humor is what has helped him amass an impressive fan base.

Today (November 10), Tyler The Creator found a way to inject his quirky side after drumming up an impromptu question-and-answer session with his followers on X (formerly Twitter). One follower’s confession about Chromakopia track “Sticky,” which features GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Lil Wayne, Timbaland, And Young Buck.

“‘Sticky’ took a couple listens to click, great song,” wrote one fan.

Almost immediately, Tyler chimed in with a hilarious reaction to the message, writing: “No lie lmfao I realized folks that don’t like that song wear sunscreen by default hahahahaha (I’m generalizing).”

No one’s feathers were ruffled by Tyler’s response. In fact, the original respondent found the message to be quite funny. While others joined i to praise the track’s cultural impact.

Tyler The Creator’s chart-topping album has earned high remarks from fans and critics alike. But prior to its release, Mike Dean accused Tyler The Creator of making “racist sh*t” after he shared a snippet seemingly calling out Lil Yachty’s mentee Ian.
