Giancarlo Esposito Once Considered Staging His Murder for Life Insurance

giancarlo esposito

Hollywood veteran Giancarlo Esposito recently appeared in an episode of the Jim & Sam show on SiriusXM’s while promoting his new drama series Parish on AMC, and the conversation got dark.

Variety reports that Esposito revealed he was so broke before booking his villainous role of Gus Fring on the iconic “Breaking Bad,” that he briefly considered setting up his own murder, so that his children would receive insurance money from his life insurance policy. Sounds like the logline to a movie but this was very much real. The way Esposito puts it, he wanted his four children to be protected financially from the policy because he was down on his luck. The recognizable actor who has since played roles ranging from Star Wars The Mandalorian to the titular character on his own show, Parish gave this serious thought circa 2008. This was a year before “Breaking Bad” changed his career to astronomical proportions leading to aforementioned roles including “The Boys” on Prime Video to name a few.

When asked on Jim & Sam how he broke out of near bankruptcy, no pun intended, the actor said, “My way out in my brain was: ‘Hey, do you get life insurance if someone commits suicide? Do they get the bread?’ My wife had no idea why I was asking this stuff. I started scheming. If I got somebody to knock me off, death by misadventure, [my kids] would get the insurance. I had four kids. I wanted them to have a life. It was a hard moment in time. I literally thought of self-annihilation so they could survive. That’s how low I was.”

“That was the first inkling that there was a way out, but I wouldn’t be here to be available to my kids,” Esposito continued. “Then I started to think that’s not viable because the pain I would cause them would be lifelong, and there’d be lifelong trauma that would just extend the generational trauma I’m trying to move away from. The light at the end of the tunnel was ‘Breaking Bad.’ Esposito ended up playing Gus Fring in an impactful 26 episodes of the highly popular “Breaking Bad,” amassing a cult following for his portrayal. He brought the character back on the prequel series “Better Call Saul” for 34 more episodes.

The long and the short of it was Esposito was in dire straits with real problems but he overcame them, seemingly dealt with his mental health issues that lead him down such a dark path and is a highly successful actor who can talk about this darkness. Guessing at the least he is sharing a cautionary tale, and if you need help just ask because you never know how things can turn around. For Esposito, he kept working. Kept fighting and now he’s undoubtedly a star who’s past that dark chapter in his life. Good for him.

fallout

It’s safe to say Fallout is a hit TV series on Prime Video. With favorable reviews and an audience streaming the series in droves, it makes sense that Prime Video has already renewed the video game adaptation show for a second season. Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, and stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, and Kyle MacLachlan are executives producing the Kilter Films produced series.

Prime Video said in the first four days of release that Fallout ranks among the service’s top three most-watched titles ever and the most-watched season globally since The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. The series’ cast is led by Moisés Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones.

The official Prime Video description goes like this: Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. Two hundred years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.

“Jonah, Lisa, Geneva, and Graham have captivated the world with this ground-breaking, wild ride of a show. The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far we seem to have exceeded their expectations, while bringing in millions of new fans to the franchise. The cast led by Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, and Kyle MacLachlan have knocked it out of the park!,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios. “We’d like to thank Jonah and Lisa and our friends at Bethesda for bringing the show to us as well as Geneva and Graham for coming aboard as showrunners. We are thrilled to announce season two after only one week out and take viewers even farther into the surreal world of Fallout.”

“Praise be to our insanely brilliant showrunners, Geneva and Graham, to our kick-ass cast, to Todd and James and all the legends at Bethesda, and to Jen, Vernon and the amazing team at Amazon for their incredible support of this show. We can’t wait to blow up the world all over again,” in a statement from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Kilter Films.

“Holy s**t. Thank you to Jonah, Kilter, Bethesda and Amazon for having the courage to make a show that gravely tackles all of society’s most serious problems these days — cannibalism, incest, jello cake. More to come!,” from Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, who are executive producers, creators, and co-showrunners.

“It’s been one of the most spectacular projects we’ve ever been a part of. Jonah and team did such an incredible job, and we’re overjoyed not just by the reaction to the show, but that we get to work with these amazing people even more,” in a quote from Todd Howard, executive producer, Bethesda Game Studios.

Al Sharpton Limited Series in the Works at ABC Signature Starring Anthony Anderson

https://deadline.com/2024/04/al-sharpton-limited-series-abc-signature-anthony-anderson-1235889282/

MSNBC analyst and the Reverend Al Sharpton has a limited series in the early stages of development at ABC Signature. We didn’t have that one on our Bing card, but this is exciting to hear. Check this out: Anthony Anderson may star in this series. As reported by Deadline, Anderson, who is most known for comedic acting, is diving into serious roles as he considers the upcoming ABC Signature limited series based on Sharpton’s life.

As of now, no actors are officially attached, but Deadline says that Anderson is being eyed for the starring role. Word is he would like to executive produce with E. Brian Dobbins, who was also a producer on Kenya Barris’ Black-ish, which starred Anderson.

The project is based on The Redemption of Al Sharpton, from an editorial piece in Esquire, based on how Sharpton’s life as a civil rights activist turned influential figure has never been free of controversy.

More from Deadline says, “The profile looks to reconcile Sharpton’s image as ‘a beacon of the civil-rights movement’ and as ‘a loudmouth in a tracksuit, surrounded by controversy and shady friends.’” The original piece was penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Mitchell S. Jackson, who had access to Sharpton across the country and learned more about Sharpton’s career, legacy, and motivation to be the force he is. Jackson also serves as a producer on the series.

Daniel Bellomy From ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Joins Cast in New ‘NCIS’ Spinoff Series ‘NCIS Origins’

Daniel Bellomy From ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Joins Cast in New ‘NCIS’ Spinoff Series ‘NCIS Origins’

If you’re a fan of one of the most popular television franchises, NCIS, an upcoming prequel series is in the works. They just added Daniel Bellomy, the star of Power Book II: Ghost, to the cast.

Deadline reports that Bellomy is added to the new prequel show in a recurring role. Other recurring roles include Caleb Martin Foote and Robert Taylor.

Interestingly, the series takes place in the early 90s, 1991 to be exact, way before the events of the modern-day NCIS series that follows original star Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in the early days as a special agent solving military crimes. Austin Stowell plays the younger Leroy. He is working in the infancy stages of his career at NIS Camp Pendleton. Deadline writes that Leroy “forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).” The series also stars Mariel Molina, Tyler Abercrombie, and Diany Rodriguez. Harmon is narrating and executive producing.

About Bellomy’s character, he will play Special Agent Granville “Granny” Dawson,” who is a probationary agent who is described as “cutting his teeth as the Evidence Custodian’s assistant, all the while itching to work his way up the ranks to field agent.”

If you keep up with Power Book II: Ghost, Bellomy played Zeke in seasons 1 and 2. Zeke is a basketball prodigy who, SPOILER ALERT, had a promising future until he was accidentally killed off by his stepfather, Lorenzo, played by Berto Colon. His untimely death is a main part of the events in Season 3, where, ANOTHER SPOILER ALERT, Lorenzo is killed in revenge.

Kevin Hunter Threatens To Expose Blac Chyna Amid Wendy Williams Documentary Backlash

It’s no secret that Lifetime’s Where Is Wendy Williams? docuseries has caused a lot of controversy, and recently, her ex-husband decided to hop online to chime in. Kevin Hunter, whose divorce from Williams was finalized in 2020, took to Instagram earlier this week to respond to some of the backlash he’s been receiving since the doc came out. He fired back at critics with full force. Hunter even dragged the beloved former talk show host’s friend Angela White, FKA Blac Chyna, into the mix.

“All of you miserable humans and women on my page are gonna be very mad, but for the smart people… Who understand the plight of: I’m not trying to play victim. Again, I take full accountability [and] a lot of you still don’t know what’s going on, and you still won’t know what’s going on,” he explained.

Kevin Hunter Accuses Wendy Williams’ Celebrity Peers Of “Enabling” Her

Hunter didn’t stop there, however. He went on to accuse Williams’ celebrity peers of enabling her, specifically White. “So I don’t know what the display was for — all of the people who were involved, the celebrities. Half of them were involved in enabling her,” he said. “So, Blac Chyna, you need to go sit down before I air you out and let people know what you really did.” While it remains unclear exactly what Hunter seemingly plans to expose White for, social media users aren’t here for it. Countless commenters are accusing him of taking advantage of his ex, whose dementia and aphasia diagnoses recently became public. Some also suspect he’s just using the documentary debacle for clout.

What do you think of Kevin Hunter’s reaction to Where Is Wendy Williams? Do you think he deserves the backlash he’s receiving online? What about him calling out Blac Chyna? Are you surprised? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.
