Notorious B.I.G. Documentary “Understanding Christopher Wallace” In Production At TIME Studios

TIME Studios has announced that a documentary centered on the life of The Notorious B.I.G., Understanding Christopher Wallace, is in the works. The film will look into the life of the legendary rapper from the perspective of his son, Christopher “CJ” Wallace. Jadakiss, Lil Kim, and many more will be making appearances.

The project is directed by Vikram Gandhi. “It’s an honor to document CJ’s personal odyssey to understand his father and to create a deeper and more definitive film about the man behind the persona Notorious BIG, Christopher Wallace,” he said in a press release.

As for the film as a whole, the press release describes it by saying: “As C. J. chases a deeper understanding of his own destiny, his quest uncovers a more holistic portrait of his dad than the world has ever known. C. J. uncovers new revelations behind his father’s life story, discovering unseen personal effects, music, photo, and footage, and asking deep, and difficult questions of the late legend’s confidants, associates, and loved ones – including some of the biggest names in music, culture, fashion and Hip Hop, including his mother, Grammy-award winning singer Faith Evans as well as Jadakiss, Lil Kim, and Lil Cease more.”

A primary theme of the documentary will be that of identity and legacy. “Over the past few years, I realized my personal journey is connected to understanding who Christopher George Latore Wallace was outside of his big rap persona,” said C. J. Wallace. “I am on a journey to fully understand the world he lived in and the massive impact he had on American and Black history and by doing so, I can ensure that I honor his hopes and dreams while I build and create my own legacy for future generations of Wallaces.”

Loren Hammonds, Head of Documentary at TIME Studios, added: “The Notorious B.I.G. had such an immense impact on not only music, but also on popular culture as a whole. But this film is about so much more than that. It’s about fatherhood, loss, and love. It’s incredibly special to be able to let audiences learn about the man behind the myth through C. Megan Thee Stallion’s Life to be Highlighted in Docuseries From TIME Studios and Roc Nation

TIME Studios and Roc Nation have announced a partnership to develop a multi-part documentary series directed by Nneka Onuorah about GRAMMY® award-winning rapper, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Megan Thee Stallion.

In this documentary, viewers will get an up-close look at Megan’s life and work. The film will explore Megan’s upbringing in Texas and crucial moments in her career, shedding light on the various parts of the Houston native’s multidimensional personality.

“We are thrilled to be able to work with Roc Nation to share Megan’s story with the world. Millions of people are familiar with her as an entertainer, but this series will give her a chance to share her truth as never before,” said TIME Studios Co-Head of Documentary Loren Hammonds. “Her story is a powerful one, and the accomplishments that she continues to achieve are remarkable. We feel lucky to have this opportunity to capture her at a crucial moment in her life and career, as she continues to grow exponentially in both her artistry and global impact.”

Megan’s development from viral freestyle sensation to a famous cultural powerhouse will be chronicled in this documentary, which will use a combination of rare archive material and new video. Beyond highlighting Megan’s rise to success, the study will also examine how she overcome personal challenges to excel in her professional career.

Before partnering with Roc Nation on the documentary, TIME previously highlighted Megan in 2020 with her inclusion on TIME 100, the iconic annual list of the world’s most influential people. Amazing Grace, a documentary on Aretha Franklin’s concert, and John Lewis: Good Trouble, a documentary about the legendary civil rights crusader and congressman, are two more recent successes.

Roc Nation Is Partnering With Time Studios On A Multi-Part Documentary About Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion never stops. The rapper is coming off the success of her new collaboration with Dua Lipa, “Sweetest Pie,” which made a pretty significant chart debut at No. 15. Though she’s still dealing with embarrassingly misogynistic fallout from Tory Lanez shooting her, Thee Stallion is still steady rising.

On that note, today Roc Nation and Time Studios announced they’ve partnered on a documentary telling Megan’s story. The upcoming multi-part documentary will be directed by Nneka Onuorah, and includes a mix of archival footage and new material. A press release stated that “beyond amplifying the Houston native’s journey to success, the project will also touch on how Megan overcame various personal hurdles to thrive in her professional career.”
