Dr. Dre, Angie Martinez Receiving Hollywood Walk-Of-Fame Stars

The 2024 Class of the Hollywood Walk of Fame has some heavy hitters throughout the entire entertainment world. Dr. Dre and Angie Martinez are two from the rap corner looking to solidify their legacy as all-time greats. On Monday, the selection committee announced those being honored, with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Board ratifying the selections that same day. Other honorees include Otis Redding, Toni Braxton, Chadwick Boseman (posthumous), Gwen Stefani, and Carl Weathers.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a celebrity honor, but it’s definitely for the fans. Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame ceremony producer, said in a Billboard interview, “This [award] is on the sidewalk. [Fans] can sit next to it. They can pose with it. It’s an interactive award.” For some, it’s as close as they can get to touching superstardom. Luckily, fans of Dr. Dre and Angie Martinez will be able to flash smiles and rock-on hand signs next to their stars soon.

Andre “Dr. Dre” Young is a mainstay in the rap game. Previous co-founder and president of Death Row Records, Dre is responsible for discovering the musical talents of Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige. Truthfully, he has too many hit singles to count. He began with the rap group NWA in the ’80s and ’90s. His most recent big-time performance was the SuperBowl LVI Pepsi Halftime Show, which brought out all of the above artists in a tribute to L.A.-based hip-hop over the decades. Even without the Walk of Fame star, we’d never forget about Dre (just like the song says).

As for Angie Martinez, her radio presence and brief rap career got her the nickname “The Voice of New York.” For two decades, she was the main host of HOT 97’s Afternoon Drive with DJ Enuff in NY. In 2014, she joined cross-town rival Power 105.1. Born in Brooklyn, she was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020. Musically, she signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation back in 2014. However, she doesn’t make much music these days. Instead, she opts for radio interviewing the stars of hip-hop today. Honestly, both Dr. Dre and Angie Martinez are rap icons well deserving of this prestigious honor.

Chadwick Boseman To Receive Posthumous WOF Star

Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away in August 2020 from colon cancer. The actor was only 43 years old and in the midst of a surging career that saw him be Black Panther in the Marvel movies and an Oscar nomination for best actor in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom after his passing. Now, the Hollywood Walk of Fame is immortalizing the beloved Boseman with a posthumous star on their famed boulevard. According to Pop Hive and RapTV Instagram accounts, the HWF decided to give Chadwick Boseman his flowers for his cultural impact.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame announces new additions at regular intervals. The most recent additions are mostly titans of the music industry. Chadwick Boseman had a great career even if the window was cut too short. Other than playing King T’Challa in the Black Panther franchise, he was also Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get On Up, two major African American historical figures. He won the SAG Award for Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role for the part of Levee Green in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a sign that the actor was looking for more roles of a serious nature. Chadwick Boseman was a big part of the movie world, and that world mourns his loss to this very day.

The Walk of Fame Class of 2024 is studded with stars from all over the entertainment industry. In the film category, Boseman, Marvel frontman Kevin Feige, Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, and Michelle Yeoh are receiving stars. TV stars Ken Jeong and Eugene Levy, along with sports legends Billie Jean King and Carl Weathers, made the list. For the music stars, recipients include Def Leppard, Sammy Haggar, Darius Rucker, Gwen Stefani, and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young. Otis Redding is getting a posthumous star as well in the Live Performance category.

Ice-T Honored With Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star

Ice-T’s illustrious career is one that deserves to be studied in history books. He emerged as a pioneer of gangsta rap, opening the gates for hip-hop to flourish for the decades to come. He later embarked on a career as a frontman for Grammy-award-winning heavy metal group Body Count. However, for those that aren’t familiar with his musical output, his role on Law & Order: SVU helped turn him into a household name. For nearly two decades, he’s appeared on our TVs as Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola.

It comes as no surprise that he finally received a Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, explained Ice-T cemented his name in entertainment throughout the years, which led to the honor. “Ice-T is a cultural icon and a success both in the music and television industries. His fans will be very excited to see their favorite performer placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Martinez said. Reflecting on the honor, the rapper stated, “When I think about how many times I got arrested in Hollywood…. This is a trip.”

Ice-T Gets His Own Day In Los Angeles

This morning, he finally received his honor on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame but that wasn’t all. Hollywood, CA declared Feb. 17th Ice-T Day as they unveiled the rapper’s star. It was a grand moment that felt like a major win for hip-hop as a whole. His Law & Order co-star, Mariska Hargitay, and the show’s creator, Dick Wolf, joined him at the ceremony, along with Chuck D.

Ahead of the ceremony, the rapper told Variety that he never expected to receive this honor in his career. “I would have told you that was impossible,” he said. When I started making records, I didn’t come into the music business thinking I would be a star. I was just seeing if I could get a fan base, I didn’t want to be the best rapper. I just wanted to be mentioned among the greats: LL Cool J, Run-DMC. Getting any “star” was way out of reach.” Check the video above.
