The Weeknd Breaks His Own Spotify Record And Creates New Ones

The Weeknd has a pretty strong claim to the title of biggest artist in the world, and he’s not only surpassing others in that process, but also himself. Moreover, he once again broke the record for most Spotify monthly listeners worldwide, now past the 120 million mark. The last person to break the record for the most Spotify monthly listeners was… Well, Abel Tesfaye himself. In addition, he also reportedly became the first artist to have 19 songs with over 1 billion streams on the platform, and it probably won’t be long before he hits 20. However, some reports suggest that he already hit 20 or is still at 18, so it’s a bit unclear at the moment.

Regardless, there’s no doubt that The Weeknd will surpass this goal soon, and will probably create a lot of other records through his outstanding commercial performance. As for what could’ve caused this rise in monthly listeners, it’s likely that the Playboi Carti collab “Timeless” contributed to a surge in listenership and commercial performance. Given how excited fans were for it and how much this duo has captivated them before, it also helps that they received the new record quite well.

The Weeknd Breaks His Own Record

What’s more is that The Weeknd has a massive moment coming up that will probably make his commercial performance exceed even more than it already is. Hurry Up Tomorrow is reportedly right around the corner, and while we don’t have a release date yet, it’s one of the most anticipated albums right now. It will also be the final album under this moniker and conclude the After Hours Til Dawn trilogy, so a couple of different eras will wrap up with this drop.

Meanwhile, Abel recently responded to praise from another massive artist. “How does The Weeknd still have that sweet young sounding falsetto?” Nicki Minaj recently tweeted. He responded by quote-tweeting her post with some heart emojis, and it’s always great to see fellow superstars praise each other and motivate each other to keep their foot on the gas. As impressive as Spotify numbers are, none of them could ever match to artistic respect and the love of your peers.

Drake Clinches Massive “Views” Milestone And Creates A New Spotify Record

Even as fans and media figures continue to debate around this year’s battle and other narratives, Drake keeps finding success from his past work. Moreover, Views recently reached a massive Spotify milestone, becoming only the third rap album ever on the platform to surpass 10 billion total streams. Not only that, but the Toronto superstar became the only MC at press time to have two albums cross the 10 billion streams mark, the first of which was Scorpion. To no one’s surprise, all of his projects on the streaming service have over a billion total streams each, an accolade few artists have been able to even approach.

Elsewhere, Drake actually recently focused on congratulating another artist for their success as he hit the studio to presumably record new material. He shared a clip on Instagram of Chilly “Gonz” Gonzales praising their collaborations in the past during a recent interview. “Thank you Gonz,” the 6ix God shared online. “This guy was my neighbor, and we ended up making incredible pieces together, one of the greatest musicians of all time to me.”

Drake’s Views Numbers Continue To Impress

Meanwhile, others like A$AP Bari wonder whether or not Drake will be able to come back from his loss to Kendrick Lamar. “Nah, it can never be over for Drake. Drake is Drake,” he expressed on a podcast. “Hell no, hell no. It can never be over for Drake, honestly. I just feel like – Well, I was mad at the point of, like… I feel like, you know, if you gon’ start some s**t, finish it, you feel me? But that’s what we from. We from Harlem, we from New York, just period. You know, I’ma start a fight, I’ma finish it, you feel me? Nah, I feel like it was something that ticked him off and he wasn’t trying to take it that far. You understand?”

However, some of Drake’s most recent releases didn’t get the same fanfare that even the most meager Views cuts got on impact. He and Snowd4y recently released an animated music video for “Wah Gwan Delilah,” reigniting some memes about the parody cover. But we’ll see what the future holds…

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Breaks Drake’s Record For Most Single-Day Rap Song Streams On Spotify

Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss “Not Like Us” continues to rack up stream after stream, and it seems more likely than ever that folks will be ringing this song off for the whole summer. Moreover, it now officially holds the records for the most single-day streams for any rap song in global Spotify history, with around 12.809 million streams presumably on Friday (May 10). This officially dethrones Drake and Lil Baby’s Certified Lover Boy collab “Girls Want Girls,” which held this record ever since 2021 with 12.385 million streams. This newest diss track had gotten very close to breaking this record the previous day, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

However, if we’re talking numbers, neither artist should really see this as anything less than an overall net positive for them. Drake is still breaking records and seeing similar commercial success to Kendrick Lamar with his own diss tracks, even if there is a winner in this tight race. But perhaps this is the only metric we’ll be able to use to compare the two now that the battle seemingly died down. At least, that’s what Top Dawg himself suggested in a recent tweet, claiming K.Dot’s victory over the 6ix God.

Kendrick Lamar Surpasses Drake’s Spotify Record By Dissing Him

But is this really the end? Drake may have recently re-listed his Beverly Hills property, but there are still plenty of theories and rumors going around that he could want revenge with another drop. Also, Kendrick Lamar himself did not claim victory in this battle, which rings especially true when you consider his promise that he could still go further down the rabbit hole. As such, perhaps we’re in for a different kind of beef to anything we’ve ever seen in the genre: a war with multiple battles, differently timed engagements, and no guarantee of decisive, eternal glory.

Alas, more likely than not, that’s just a speculative fantasy. But Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s battle was about as ugly as people wanted, even uglier than they expected, and highly entertaining for at least a brief moment for even the most hardened skeptic. Now Twitter die-hards are coming up with excuses to fight each other’s claims and others are calling to attention the more troublesome and exploitative aspects of this feud as it relates to female trauma, the culture, the music industry, and entertainment/celebrity culture at large. As for the actual back-and-forth, we’ll have to see if the battlefield remains quiet until we get an official stand-down.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” Hits Yet Another Impressive Sales Milestone

One thing that’s certain about the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef is that it’s been a commercial hit. Fans have already streamed “Like That” to a number one debut on the Hot 100. It subsequently spent 3 weeks at the top spot. They also helped both “euphoria” and “push ups” debut in the top 20 in the past two weeks, despite neither having a fill tracking week of sales. Kendrick dropped a track called “Not Like Us” over the weekend that’s off to an incredibly start commercially. The DJ Mustard-produced cut has a much more energetic and catchy flow to it that could translate into huge numbers.

Speaking of huge numbers, “euphoria” is already there. After making its debut at number 11 on the Hot 100 the song is expected to climb even higher next week. In fact, it could go as high as number one where its currently projected in battle with Tommy Richman’s “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” to claim the top spot. Earlier today, the song officially hit 500k copies sold, a substantial achievement for any song much less one that’s barely been around for a week. Unsurprisingly, it’s the fastest solo rap song to reach that milestone in 2024 so far. It’s even faster than Megan Thee Stallion’s “HISS” which debuted atop the Hot 100 back in January.

Kendrick Lamar’s “euphoria” Surpasses 500k Sales

Kendrick’s most recent release “Not Like Us” is also breaking records. In fact, it even broke a record previously held by Drake himself. The song surpassed Certified Lover Boy‘s opening track “Champagne Poetry” for the most streams in a single day among any solo rap song in the first 24 hours after it dropped. It’s not clear at the time whether Kendrick plans to release any more songs addressing the beef.

What do you think of Kendrick Lamar’s first diss track aimed solely at Drake hitting 500k sales in just over a week? Are you surprised it’s the fastest selling solo rap songs of 2024 so far? Let us know in the comment section below.

Drake Buys Shots For Fans On Vacation, Hits New Spotify Milestone

Drake paid it back to his fans this week, buying a massive round of shots for his fans while vacationing in Turks & Caicos. A very scruffy-looking Drizzy was greeted by massive cheers, with some of the bar staff ruffling his hair. Of course, Drake is no stranger to doing nice things for his fans. During the “It’s All a Blur” tour, Drake promised to buy first-class tickets home for a pair of fans who had traveled all the way from Japan to see him perform.

Meanwhile, Drizzy also hit a major milestone on Spotify. The Six God surpassed an eye-popping 90 billion streams across all features on the platform. It once again just proves that Drake is unmatched when it comes to musical dominance on the streaming platform. Drake is the first artist in history to reach this huge milestone.

DJ Khaled Regrets Missing MySpace DM From Drake

Meanwhile, DJ Khaled recently revealed that he once missed a MySpace DM from a pre-fame Drake. “I didn’t know how to work that MySpace stuff. But oh my God, if I had an opportunity to sign Drake or work with Drake before Drake was Drake. But it just shows you that he had love for me as a producer, DJ, and as an artist. The music I was making. He had love right and that’s so dope. It’s one of the biggest artists in the world and he’s my family and he’s my brother. But just to know that, before he exploded, he was listening to DJ Khaled. Wow,” Khaled said on Club Shay Shay.

Since then, Khaled and Drizzy have collabed nine times. Their first musical endeavor was “Fed Up” in 2009. Furthermore, their most recent venture was 2022’s “No Secret”. As with any two superstars in the game who aren’t beefing, Six God and Khaled have formed a very close friendship. However, it’s interesting to know that there was a chance for their partnership to begin even earlier.

“Pink Friday 2” Projected To Top Album Chart, Breaks Spotify Record For Female Hip-Hop

Pink Friday 2 is expected to debut at No. 1 when it becomes chart-eligible next week. According to HDD, the album’s first-week projections currently sit at a very strong 170,000-190,000 units. That should be more than enough to see Pink Friday 2 jump right to the top of the Billboard chart. If that becomes the case, it will be Nicki Minaj’s first No. 1 album since Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded in 2012. Both The Pinkprint and Queen peaked at No. 2 in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Furthermore, per Chart Data on X, Pink Friday 2 has broken Spotify’s record for a female hip-hop debut on the platform. The album is also currently at No. 1 on Apple Music’s real-time chart. The previous record was held by a pair of Doja Cat albums – Scarlet and Planet Her. The Barbz, of course, are absolutely over the moon about the success of Pink Friday 2.

Nicki Minaj Thanks J. Cole For Pink Friday 2 Collab

Meanwhile, Minaj herself took to social media to personally thank J. Cole for collaborating on “Let Me Calm Down”. “This man J. Cole had a 2 hour talk with me. 2. Two!!!! Didn’t realize I was sitting on a therapist couch but ummm😩2 days later I heard this verse & couldn’t stop crying,” Minaj began her post. “In a world where we know EXACTLY how & WHEN to tear each other apart, there are still Kings & Queens who know how to put ppl back together. Patch them up. Heal them. Empower them. Understand them. Listen to them. Make them do the most beautiful thing a human being can do,” she continued.

Furthermore, she also highlighted how the verse reminded her of the first time that her son smiled at her. “After having #papabear I couldn’t wait for the day he’d smile @ me. First smile? It was one day when I blew a kiss @ him. I said “papa mmuuuaahhhhh!!!!” then? Time froze. Froze. He smiled? He smiled. At Me? Looking directly in my eyes? Yes. Me? Held back the tears & just kept doing a billion more times. I cried later,” Minaj noted. Be sure to read her full post below.
