Snoop Dogg Points Out He Has Been Snubbed by the Grammys for Years: ‘20 Nominations. 0 Wins.’

It’s crazy that Snoop Dogg doesn’t have a single Grammy. Following this year’s awards, Snoop hit Instagram and pointed out how he has been snubbed 20 times.

“Snoop dogg, 20 nominations. 0 wins,” he wrote.

In hindsight, it’s pretty wild. Snoop has contributed to some of the most iconic records in Hip-Hop history, which is what is getting him acknowledged by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The next class of the Songwriters Hall of Fame will include Black music icons Snoop Dogg, Sade Ade, and Teddy Riley. The 52nd annual induction and awards gala is set for Thursday, June 15, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Hearing the news, Snoop Dogg hit Instagram and celebrated the achievement in a video.

“Damn, Songwriters Hall of Fame? That’s big,” Snoop opened. “And just to think, I’ve been telling people for the past seven years, ‘Who you wanna do a song with, Snoop?’ I’d always say, Sade. And now we going to the Songwriters Hall of Fame on the same day. And not only that, Teddy Riley? New Jack Swing? I’m going in with him? Man, God is good. Just a little kid from the East side of Long Beach with a big ass dream.”

In addition to Sade, Snoop and Riley, Gloria Estefan, Glen Ballard, and Liz Rose are among the songwriters that will be included.

According to Billboard, this will be the fifth induction ceremony in which a songwriter affiliated with rap or hip-hop will be recognized. Snoop joins Jay-Z (2017), Jermaine Dupri (2018), Missy Elliott (2019), and The Neptunes’ Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams (2022).

“The music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first,” SHOF chairman Nile Rodgers (a 2016 SHOF inductee) said in a statement. “Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch … nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.”

Snoop Dogg & Sade Among 2023 Songwriters Hall Of Fame Inductees

Snoop Dogg, Sade, and more are among the inductees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023. The organization announced the full roster for this year’s class on Wednesday.

Other notable inclusions are Gloria Estefan, Electric Light Orchestra founder Jeff Lynne, Teddy Riley, and Taylor Swift collaborator Liz Rose.

In making its decision, the hall cited Snoop’s key songs as “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang,” “Young, Wild & Free,” “Gin & Juice,” and “Next Episode.”

For Sade, they selected her tracks “Smooth Operator,” “No Ordinary Love,” “The Sweetest Taboo,” “By Your Side,” as well as “Is It A Crime.”

Chairman Nile Rodgers explained the hall’s choices in a statement, according to Deadline.

“The music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first. Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch, nothing. It all starts with the song and the songwriter,” he said. “We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time.”

He added that the 2023 slate “represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and, in their time, literally transformed music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”

A number of other artists were nominated for this year’s class but were passed over including R.E.M., Blondie, Patti Smith, and more.

The class will be inducted at the 52nd Annual Induction and Awards Gala on Thursday, June 15. The ceremony will occur at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.

Is there anything Snoop Dogg hasn’t accomplished in his thirty-year career? Over the past few years, the rapper has expanded his business empire to include acquiring his former record label, opening a Funko Pop store, starting a pet clothing line, and of course, collaborating on a cannabis line. The musician has surely come a long way since writing out his song lyrics on typewriter.

That said, the Long Beach native is still experiencing a career first, having been named by the Songwriters Hall of Fame as one of its latest inductees. The class of 2023 inductees will also include musical trailblazers Sade, Glen Ballard, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne, Teddy Riley, and Liz Rose.

When discussing the annual event, SHOF Chairman Nile Rodgers said, “The music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first. Without them, there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch… nothing. It all starts with the song and the songwriter.”

He added, “We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2023 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity, and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and, in their time, literally transformed music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”

In fact, with her induction, Gloria Estefan will become the first Latin woman to enter the ranks.

Lil Nas X Trolls His Own Songwriting Award With A Cheeky Reference To His New Song

Lil Nas X was recently honored by the Songwriters Hall Of Fame with the Hal David Starlight Award, which recognized the significant impact he’s made on the music industry in his relatively short time in the spotlight. However, it doesn’t look like he’s letting that success go to his head. He’s still got the same absurdist sense of humor he came into the music business with, as illustrated by his low-key reaction to the recognition on social media.

Tweeting a screenshot of a Variety tweet reporting on the Songwriters Hall Of Fame honor, Nas accompanied the image with another screenshot taken from the lyrics scroll of his new song, “Late To Da Party” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, from Apple Music. The lyric in question reads: “Farted on these n****s [fart noise] / Oops, I think I sh*tted,” undercutting the austerity of receiving an award for songwriting with an example of just how silly his songwriting can be. It’s Nas showing that he doesn’t take himself too seriously — a trait that will probably help him remain grounded in an industry that can quickly make artists lose touch.

However, he also seems to appreciate his position in the business. During his speech at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame 51st Annual Induction And Awards Gala in New York earlier this month, he said, “This award means a lot to me for the simple fact that, somehow, I keep just doing things and it keeps working out. I don’t know why the universe is letting me have these moments, but thank the universe.”

Mariah Carey is now a part of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The legendary hit maker took to social media to thank her fans for their love and support for over 25 years and said her favorite part of creating music is writing the lyrics.

She also credited the achievement as being the greatness honor of her career. Carey has waited three years to be inducted as the Induction and Awards Gala had been postponed each year since 2020.

Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, along with The Isley Brothers also accepted their inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Lil Nas X Is Among The Honorees At The Upcoming Songwriters Hall Of Fame Gala

Lil Nas X has seen much success ever since he recorded the 2019 smash “Old Town Road” for $50 in a small Atlanta studio. The record, recognized as the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, served as the launchpad for a fast-rising music career loaded with multiple No. 1’s, Grammy wins, and a massive social media presence. Now the 23-year-old is about to enter another echelon as he is set to receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the upcoming 51st Songwriters Hall Of Fame gala.

The award recognizes “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs.” Lil Nas X joins Drake, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Halsey, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, and many more previous recipients of the high honor created in 2004 to maintain the legacy of its namesake, SHOF Chairman Hal David. Multiple members of the current SHOF board cited the young artist is being recognized for the success of his songs and his proud, outspoken representation of the various communities he identifies with.

In addition to Lil Nas X, the gala will celebrate the induction of Mariah Carey, The Isley Brothers, The Neptunes, Eurythmics, and more. This will be the first Songwriters Hall of Fame gala since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
