John Legend, Jhené Aiko, & Ty Dolla $ign Make A “Splash” On Joint Track: Listen

John Legend dropped off his first project since 2020’s Bigger Love this past weekend, and on it he recruited superstar artists like Rick Ross, JID, Saweetie, and Muni Long to help him out, just to name a few.

Of the 24 titles included on the tracklist, we’ll be spotlighting two – the first arrived on Saturday, “Love” featuring Jazmine Sullivan, and today, we suggest that you stream “Splash” in collaboration with soon-to-be mother of two Jhené Aiko as well as Ty Dolla $ign.

Like many of the other songs on LEGEND, “Splash” is flirtatious in nature, and finds the artists trading sensual verses about getting wet and wild in the bedroom.

“Sunday mornin’, holy water / Runnin’ over, let me know you / Really want it, slide up on it / Rain down on me, let the water,” the father of two begins before Aiko joins him on the chorus and Dolla eventually comes through with a verse of his own.

NAV & Gunna Connect On “Playa” Track From “Demons Protected By Angels” Album

One of this weekend’s biggest album releases came from Canadian rapper NAV, who dropped off 19 tracks on his Demons Protected By Angels project featuring names like Lil Uzi Vert, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Don Toliver, and Future.

On Saturday, we spotlighted the 32-year-old’s collaboration with R&B star Bryson Tiller on “Reset,” which has quickly emerged as a fan favourite, and today, we suggest you stream “Playa” featuring Gunna.

Though the YSL artist is due to remain behind bars until January of 2023, he still came through for his Toronto-born pal, providing vocals and bars to both the chorus as well as his own verse.

“Rich n*gga stunts like my bitch, spread the new ‘Bach-‘Bach truck / Gunna, look what you did (Look at it) / Too many hoes to be showin’ me, too many love gettin’ too much of this d*ck / Too many shows, I been takin’ like too many drugs,” the Atlanta-born rapper spits early on in the song.

Earlier this weekend, first week sales projections from HDD confirmed that NAV’s new album is expected to debut at No. 2 or 3 – read more about that here, and stream “Playa” on Spotify, Apple Music, or Soundcloud below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Lost a few friends, but I made lots of Ms, so whatever, like, f*ck it, I’m rich (I am)
Too many bags I’ve been gettin’ got too many hoes, I forgot that I hit
Work when I want, but they pay me a lot every time that I put in a shift
Price gettin’ higher, but I still be pourin’ an eight, every time that I sip (Let’s go)

Ari Lennox & Lucky Daye Share Soulful R&B Collab, “Boy Bye”

Ari Lennox’s age/sex/location album was co-signed by her label head, J. Cole, shortly after its arrival, as the renowned rapper compared his First Lady’s work to that of Alica Keys on her debut LP, Songs in A Minor

As fans have begun to listen to the 12-track release they’ve also been expressing their excitement, particularly over tracks like “Waste My Time,” “Leak It” featuring Chlöe, and the latest title to be added to our panel – “Boy Bye” featuring Lucky Daye.

Much like Kendrick Lamar’s “We Cry Together,” the track finds the two artists going back and forth in a clearly toxic relationship, though Lennox and Daye’s is far more flirtatious and fun than the scene that K-Dot and Taylour Paige set with their collaboration.

“Talkin’ all that shit, where your girl at? (Pssh) / You are way too fine, to be alone (Why, thank you, thank you, I appreciate that),” the singers talk to each other as they sing. “Girl, with all that ass and no one behind it, oh / I’m just wonderin’ if I can walk you home (Home, home).”

Stream “Boy Bye” on Spotify, Apple Music, or Soundcloud below, and tap back in with HNHH later for more music updates.

Quotable Lyrics:

I know you think that I’m shady
I want you to be my baby
Sunsets, big daydreamin’ lately
Girl, I think of you on the daily

John Legend & Jazmine Sullivan Share A Toxic “Love” Song: Listen

It’s a great weekend to be an R&B lover, with new albums landing from both Ari Lennox and John Legend, and not to mention a new single from Bryson Tiller (plus an appearance on “Reset” from NAV’s new album).

While the Dreamville First Lady opted to keep her project short and sweet with 12 titles, the “All Of Me” hitmaker fed his fans a double disc release, complete with 24 new tracks and features from names like Saweetie, Amber Mark, Jhené Aiko, and Ty Dolla $ign.

Of the many titles, our personal favourite is a toxic duet with Heaux Tales songstress Jazmine Sullivan, called “Love.”

“Lately, we been cussin’ / You pushin’ on my buttons,” Legend sings on the first verse before being joined by his partner later on. “It’s cruel / How you do, how you do / I know that it’s toxic love / But I kinda like it, I do.”

Stream “Love” on Spotify or Apple Music below, and tap back in with HNHH later for more music news updates.

Quotable Lyrics:

I’ll be knockin’ at the door
You can change the locks, but we’re not through
We’re not through
Curse me out and scream some more (Scream some more)
Baby, I just need a word from you
Oh, won’t you bless me, baby? Hey (Woo)

Joyner Lucas Freestyles Backwards Over Notorious B.I.G. & Nas Beats On “Backwords Part 2”

Joyner Lucas gets a lot of attention for his skills as an emcee, and on a recent visit to Hot 97, the Worcester, Massachusetts rapper proved why he is deserving of the hype.

On Funk Flex’s show, Lucas was challenged by the host to do another version of his 2015 song “Backwords,” in which he rapped his bars in forward and reverse. Lucas looked a little hesitant at first, but once the instrumental for “Nas Is Like” started playing, the “Your Heart” rapper dove into some fresh bars.

Funk Flex was clearly impressed by Lucas as he pulled off repeating his “Backwords” feat. He then requested Lucas do it again, this time over the beat for “Realest N***as,” the 2003 collab between 50 Cent and Notorious B.I.G.. Lucas laughed, but proceeded to grant Flex’s request.

Check out Lucas’s performance below, and let us know if you’re as impressed as Flex in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics

Tell your favorite rappers I’m home, and back for supper
The day you beat me is the day Chilli get back with Usher
You spent your whole life tryin’ to ball, but had no jumper
I can pass and dunk it, I’m Dr. J when I’m at the Rucker

YEAT Floats Over Hypnotic Production On “Up Off X”

YEAT has been making massive waves as of late thanks to a string of viral hits that have popped off on platforms like TikTok. He is an artist who knows how to make his way through the viral age, and the fact that he has a song in the Minions movie is just yet another demonstration of his popularity. On Friday, he dropped off a new tape called LYFË and among the 12-song tracklist, there are some amazing songs, including the second track, “Up Off X.”

This song features some nice hypnotic production in which YEAT can be heard floating over top of it. Typically, YEAT has very energetic songs, but this time around, he offers up something a bit more laid back. It makes for nice deviation on the album, and fans are already appreciating it.

Let us know what you think about this effort, in the comments section down below.

NAV & Bryson Tiller Come Together For A “Reset”: Listen

Canada’s own Nav made his return this weekend with his 19-track Demons Protected By Angels project, including features from artists like Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, and Future, just to name a few.

When seeking to curate the perfect R&B vibe on the project’s 15th title, “Reset,” the 32-year-old Toronto native recruited Bryson Tiller to share some bars of his own. “Bitch walked past, should I heat check? / Wear my heart on my sleeve, it’s a defect / It’s not what it seems, do I seem stressed? / You told me, ‘Yes,'” the Kentucky native rhymes on his verse.

For his part, Nav truly shines on the chorus as he sings, “Can we just reset? / Can we do it over from the start? / Ain’t no need to be pressed / ‘Cause we in the same game playing our part.”

I’m not like the rest
I look at ’em like they on a lower level to me

Ari Lennox Shows Out On “Waste My Time” From Her Sophomore Album

After surviving a particularly wild beginning to 2022, what with being arrested in Amsterdam, ambushed with questions about her sex life by a podcast host, and begging her label to drop her on Twitter, Ari Lennox has made a triumphant return with her sophomore album, age/sex/location.

The 12-track project includes previously released singles like “Pressure” and “Hoodie,” as well as the Washington, D.C. native’s collaboration with Summer Walker on “Queen Space,” which first arrived on her Away Message EP one week before the album’s debut.

Other collaborations came from Lucky Daye and Chlöe, and while those are certainly worth listening to, the tracks that find Lennox singing solo are some of the best that the album has to offer – most notably, “Waste My Time” on which the 31-year-old shares plenty of sultry bars.

“No d*ck makin’ me stupid / No funny Valentine-lovin’ from Cupid,” she croons on the first verse. “Need someone to get to it / I see you beggin’ so there ain’t no choosin’.”

Stream “Waste My Time” on Spotify, Apple Music, or Soundcloud below, and check out Ari Lennox’s entire sophomore album here.

Quotable Lyrics:

Waste my time, get on my line
‘Cause I got the time to waste
Use that mouth, blow this back out
Back up every word you say (Said, sock it to me)
