Wacotron Picks Up The Pace On Marshmello-Produced “Umbrella” With G Herbo

Waco, Texas native Wacotron is about to make a big splash this year, and it all starts with his new single “Umbrella” featuring G Herbo and produced by Marshmello. The new single is out now and it paints Wacotron as one of the rising stars of tomorrow.

Despite his newcomer status, Wacotron has been working for a minute with guys like Southside and the rest of 808 Mafia. In his 20s, he turned to rap to better provide for his family, and it looks like that plan will end up working out for the young man. “Umbrella” was released on Thursday with an official music video, showing the Texan showing off his lifestyle with G Herbo and Marshmello by his side. The two rappers float over Marshmello’s menacing guitar riffs, warning the opps and establishing Wacotron as one to watch.

Watch the new music video below and stay tuned because this is just the start for Wacotron. He’s coming with his debut project SMOKIN’ TEXAS very soon.

Quotable Lyrics:

That’s hate in your heart, probably was hate from the start
Planning to pick them apart, look at the art
Trip over any remark and I’m diving right next to a shark
Give it a spark, look out the door, see the park is ugly when you in the dark
Passing by Clark, smokin’ big Texas, I thought to myself how I make it this far?

Rich Homie Quan Returns With New Single “Daily Bread”

Rich Homie Quan has his foot back in the door and there’s no way he’s stepping out this time. Following up on 2019’s Coma project, the Atlanta-born rapper has woken up and he’s ready to get back in the game.

For too long, he’s been one of the more underappreciated artists of his generation. Following his falling out with Young Thug and Birdman, RHQ had a tough time garnering the same sort of attention that his Rich Gang collaborator was getting. Thugger grew to new heights but Rich Homie was left behind, refusing to go mainstream and sticking to his brand of street music. As he continues to consistently release good singles and projects, fans are excited to be gifted a brand new record from the 31-year-old this week.

Dropping the video for “Daily Bread” on Thursday, Rich Homie Quan has officially returned and he’s angling to stay around for a while longer. The self-directed video takes place at his house as he spends time with his girlfriend, watching Kobe Bryant highlights by the pool and enjoying life. See how Rich Homie has been living in the video below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Got my foot back in, ain’t no way I’m gone let up
Bought thousand-dollar shoes just to go to church in
I spent forty-thousand on my latest purchase
It’s hate to see that hate through the Maybach curtains
Ain’t no man on earth I will ever worship
Had to keep it in the streets, I couldn’t go commercial

Brasstracks Teases Its Future With A Jazzy Cover Of Drake’s “What’s Next”

The hype for Drake’s forthcoming sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy is unreal. Last month, the 6 God dropped the Scary Hours 2 EP, and all three of its tracks simultaneously debuted within the top three spots of the Billboard Hot 100. “Wants and Needs” and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” were incredible tracks, but a month later, the EP’s opener “What’s Next” proves to be the song with the most commercial viability. The track currently sits at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it has apparently inspired a new cover from Grammy award-winning duo Brasstracks.

The duo, who earned a Grammy for their work on Chance the Rapper’s “No Problem,” dropped off their debut album Golden Ticket last summer, and now, roughly eight years later, they’re kicking off the next chapter of their career with a cover of Drake’s “What’s Next.” Three years ago, the duo also performed a jazzy rendition of Drake’s 2018 smash “In My Feelings,” so it’s only fitting that Brasstracks is taking on one of the Toronto artist’s latest singles.

When touching on the inspiration behind the “What’s Next” cover, Brasstracks co-founder Ivan Jackson says, “The minute I heard ‘What’s Next’ I heard two things- the first was some inspiration. The second was a challenge. We’ve definitely been wary recently of doing covers, but hearing this song sparked something in me- why not try it with a different chord every beat? There’s not many obvious melodies, so why not try some?”

The duo’s ambitious cover successfully adapts “What’s Next” into a snazzy and energetic fanfare, and although it relinquishes Drake’s quotable lyrics, Brasstracks’ cover more than makes up for it with its horn-driven groove. Check out Brasstracks’ cover of “What’s Next” below.

DMX Was At Peace On “A Minute For Your Son”

With DMX’s fate currently uncertain, many have turned to prayer, following the example so often set by the man himself. Though frequently plagued by the alluring call of darkness within, X never failed to keep his head high, turning to God and finding solace in religion. Such themes have been present in his music since It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot first released in 1998, and the honest manner with which he explored his inner duality made him an artist unlike any other.

When he released The Great Depression in 2001, it felt like the conclusion of a journey; not the end of the novel, but perhaps an act. Lessons had no doubt been learned in the years that followed his big debut. For a time, X was among the rap game’s biggest superstars, a lifestyle that brought no shortage of fame and spotlight; as revealed in the telling Ruff Ryders Chronicles documentary that aired on BET last year, he never wanted any of that. The toll was strong, and when he released his fourth studio album in October of 2001, it felt as if a lifetime had passed.

Years removed from the project’s initial arrival — a project that likely deserves a thorough revisitation — there remains a simple power in album closer “A Minute For Your Son.” Backed by a celestial and soothing instrumental from longtime collaborative Swizz Beatz, X takes a moment to speak directly to God, reflecting on his journey and pledging to set a shining example moving forward. Given the current circumstances, it feels like an appropriate time to revisit the powerful, and generally slept-on, album closer. And if that’s not enough — stick around for the three additional bonus tracks that follow.

Does anybody have any memories surrounding DMX’s The Great Depression?

QUOTABLE LYRICS

You got a minute for your son, Father? I need to talk
I’m so tired of tryin’ to run, Father, let’s take a walk
I’m so sorry for what I done, Father, it ain’t my fault
But the devil’s been on my back lately, he’s like a hawk
You never give us more than we can handle, but it’s gettin’ hard
And I’m a strong individual, but I need You, God

Chynna Lives On With Posthumous Kirk Knight-Produced “Burnout”

One year ago to this day, rapper Chynna Rogers passed away at the age of 25. She was widely mourned by her family, friends, and fans, including many from the hip-hop community. Now, the late artist’s memory lives on with a new posthumous single “burnout,” produced by Pro Era’s Kirk Knight.

Sonically, Knight’s production is hazy in nature, a blend of uptempo trap drums and atmospheric synthesizers. Chynna gives herself space to set the tone, letting the beat build before sliding in with some vocals. Opting to keep things restrained, Chynna’s charisma is on display as she manoeuvers over Knight’s soundscape. Lulling listeners into a false sense of security with the first half’s laid-back delivery, the second half finds her speeding things up. “700 ni**as getting in, it’s a turnout,” she spits. “Every other ni**a couldn’t win, better learn how.”

Be sure to check out Chynna’s posthumous single “Burnout,” her first release since “Stupkid,” now. Rest in peace, Chynna.

One of the most prominent voices from Florida’s underground rap scene, Pouya is preparing to release his next studio album, dropping the lead single from it on Thursday.

Serving as the lead single to Pouya’s next album, “Leave Me Alone” shows a more introspective side of the Buffet Boys representative, who has clearly been taking time to think about the bigger picture lately.

Quotable Lyrics:

Another soul ascended, funeral attendance
Growin’ as I go through walks of life and I don’t get the message
I feel I’m next in line, not to sound too morbid
But I feel the reaper’s aura orbit around my body
Suckin’ up all my serotonin
I run away but I can’t escape the grasp of reality
Suicides and casualties multiplyin’ quite rapidly
I feel like somebody is after me

Songbird Queen Naija is keeping the spotlight on her Misunderstood album by sharing Misunderstood…Still, and she stirs things up with her new collaboration with Ari Lennox, “Set Him Up.” The sultry single sonically comes across as a sexy tale but if you pay close attention, the ladies are trading information. Icewear Vezzo Taps Lil Durk For “Up The Sco”

Detroit and Chicago collided on a new single from Icewear Vezzo. The Motown emcee has been carefully cooking up his forthcoming release Rich Off Prints and the meticulous rollout continued at the top of Thursday (April 8) morning with “Up The Sco,” a single that features the Windy City’s Lil Durk. The two artists trade verses about street life and their come-up over slow-burning Rocaine production that has Icewear Vezzo’s fans excited about his next album.

Vezzo also delivered a message to anyone who feels as if their haters are getting in the way of their business moves. “1 thing about it can’t no n*gga , no b*tch , no hater , no opp , no fan , no entity , OR NOBODY stop or come in between nothing or any blessings God got for you,” the rapper recently wrote on Instagram. Logic Drops Off Surprise Track “Tired In Malibu”

If you have a minute to spare, Logic has the song for you. In a surprise move, the retired rapper resurfaced with a new single—sort of—that he dropped off over on YouTube titled “Tired in Malibu.” The track finds Logic spitting some straightforward rhymes for about a minute before he signs off. Fans didn’t think they would receive new tunes from Logic considering he announced that his 2020 release No Pressure would be his final album. Since that time, he’s popped up as a feature on Juicy J’s “1995” and continues to connect with his fellow artists, so Logic isn’t fading into the background completely as he works on his label, BobbyBoy Records.

The artwork for “Tired in Malibu” shows Logic lounging with his son and enjoying those daddy duties that a Rap career wouldn’t afford a famous father on the road. We expect to hear more from Logic, albeit not as frequently as we’re used to, but for now, kick back and stream his minute-long release, “Tired in Malibu.”

Quotable Lyrics

Throwback like a Flux Capacitor
Shape-shift like an animorph
You come in them short like a dwarf
And my sh*t never the same

Boosie Badazz Shares “Cry Me A River (April 1)”

Boosie Badazz’s antics have overshadowed some of his music in recent times but he’s maintained a steady stream of music in the past few years. 2020, specifically, included the release of Badazz MO3 with MO3, Goat Talk 2 and In House. Though he’s yet to announce a new project, his latest string of singles appear to be an indication that he has some heat on the way shortly.

Last week, the rapper delivered his latest single, “Cry Me A River (April 1).” In contrast to his previous release with DaBaby on “Period,” this one finds Boosie reflecting on the death of his friends and loved ones over melancholic strings through his bluesy-tone.

Check out the latest from Boosie Badazz below and keep your eyes peeled for more new music.
