Lil Uzi Vert Told Us That He Couldn’t Miss On 2016’s “Hi Roller”

Although many Hip-Hop fans were initially skeptical of him and his contemporaries, Lil Uzi Vert is now practically a household name. Five months removed from his collab album Pluto x Baby Pluto with Future, Lil Uzi Vert is already gearing up to release new music. The Eternal Atake artist has recently revealed that his next project will be titled The Real Uzi 2, referencing his seminal mixtape in 2014, and according to him, fans should expect “bangers.”

Just as Uzi is looking back to his early days as an artist, today marks the perfect opportunity for Hip-Hop enthusiasts and longtime fans of the Philadelphia rapper to do the same because five years ago, Lil Uzi Vert dropped off a project shocked and won over the entire music industry. Following the 2015 release of the intriguing mixtape Luv Is Rage, Lil Uzi Vert built upon all of the hype surrounding his come-up in the most colorful and entertaining way with Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World

Led by the single “Money Longer” and packed with classic Uzi cuts like “Ps and Qs,” “Grab the Wheel,” and “Hi Roller,” his third mixtape was the exclamation point to Uzi’s 2015-2016 takeover. “Hi Roller” may not have been the most popular song on the mixtape, but its otherworldly production and stylish bravado proves that even back in 2016, Lil Uzi Vert already knew that he was larger than life.

Bolstered by eccentric and unmistakable production from Maaly Raw, Metro Boomin, Don Cannon, and WondaGurl, Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World was a shining example of what Lil Uzi Vert was capable of as an artist, and of course, the iconic Scott Pilgrim-inspired artwork remains one of the best album covers in Uzi’s entire discography.

Five years later, what are your favorite songs from Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World?

Jacquees & Erica Banks Connect For “No More Parties” Quemix

The Quemix series has been a staple in Jacquees catalog, especially among his day one fans. Unfortunately, it seems the controversy surrounding Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” and Jacquees version of the record put the series on hold for a while, though we’ve received a few QueMixes in recent times. The latest record to receive the treatment is Coi LeRay’s “No More Parties.” However, in the rare instance, Jacquees offered this version as a collaboration alongside Erica Banks. It’s a perfect mesh of Jacquees’ crooning and muddy flows from the “Buss It” rapper, drizzled with a bit of auto-tune.

Meanwhile, Coi LeRay’s “No More Parties” is doing serious numbers. The song serves as the artist’s Billboard Hot 100 debut and peaked at #26 while the video to its Lil Durk-assisted remix currently has 25M views.

Emotional Oranges Taps Becky G For “Down To Miami”

Oh, how the beaches of Miami are as enticing as they’ve ever been these days. Thankfully, it seems that this summer will formally be one where we’re outside (at least more so than the previous year) which means that we need the right type of vibe to soundtrack all of the shenanigans. This week, Emotional Oranges served up a vibrant new single with the assistance of Becky G titled, “Down To Miami.” The upbeat anthem blends together soothing R&B sounds with the percussion of Latin music to bring a refreshing record.

“This started off as a stripped guitar idea that we leaked on socials over a year ago,” Emotional Oranges said about the track. “We had a lot of fun re-imagining it with Becky, she’s been really inspiring to work with. Can’t wait until people get to see the creative/visuals we’re putting together.”

Conway The Machine Taps J.I.D & Ludacris For “Scatter Brain”

Conway The Machine is set to let fly a brand new album this Friday, confirming that La Maquina is on the way. And with the big release only a few days out, Machine has officially decided to drop an early single from the project, paying homage to two generations of lyrical Southern excellence on “Scatter Brain.” Featuring the talents of J.I.D and Ludacris, as well as producer Don Cannon, the track continues to cement Conway as one of the game’s true unstoppable forces.

Marking Conway’s second collab with J.I.D (his first came on “Ballads”) and his first with Ludacris, “Scatter Brain” is an interesting lineup that many fans of lyricism will no doubt appreciate. It’s even better in practice than it is in theory. Over Cannon’s uptempo and mischievous production, Conway and J.I.D trade rapid-fire verses showcasing not only growing creative chemistry, but further validation that they’re two of the best out right now. Through in a closing statement from Ludacris, who seems about ready for a comeback in his own right, and we’re looking at one of the year’s hardest drops so far.

And to think, La Maquina is only the warm-up for God Don’t Make Mistakes, his long-delayed Shady Records debut that continues to build hype with every passing week. Don’t get it twisted, however — we’re getting nothing but premium quality from Machine on this one, as evidenced by both “Scatter Brain” and lead single “Blood Roses,” produced by Cardiak and featuring Drumwork signee Jae Skeese.

Check out “Scatterbrain” now, and sound off with your favorite verse. Are you looking forward to La Maquina this Friday?

I’m a street n***a, boy, you know the difference
Hand around the throat of the rap game
And I’m boa constrictin’, my soul is missin’
In the top spot, I got sole position, man, this hoe was trippin’
She think I wanna taste her pu**y
I ain’t tastin’ shit like a COVID symptom
I’ma social distance, b*tch

Trapboy Freddy Drops Off His “Trackstar” Remix

Clicking with the right audience on TikTok can certainly lead to viral fame. Just ask Mooski. The rapper’s single, “Trackstar” became a viral sensation with artists like Keyshia Cole and Coi Leray (who also was the female lead in the music video) shared their own dance videos on IG and other social platforms. However, the virality of the song also turned it into one of those records that everyone wants to hop on.

This week, Trapboy Freddy came through with a freestyle over Mooski’s hit record. With the cover art depicting Ricky’s death in Boyz N The Hood, Freddy mirrors the film’s theme in many ways as he details the vicious nature of the streets.

Sleepy Hallow Puts One In The Sky On “2055”

It looks like Brooklyn’s Sleepy Hallow is aiming to outwork his peers this year. The rapper’s coming with back-to-back hits, first releasing “2 Sauce” and now, arriving with his latest record, “2055.” The tone is set on the rapper’s melancholic anthem by bluesy guitar tones and heavy drums. Hallow shares his woes through monotone sing-rap delivery as he details loneliness and mistrust. Despite the gloomy tone to the single, the infectious hook makes it as anthemic as any of his more adrenaline-fueled records.

Sleepy is nearly a year removed from the release of his last project, Sleepy Hallow Presents: Sleepy For President which featured the single, “Deep End.” Following the release of the project, the rapper unveiled “Tip Toe” ft. Sheff G which reached nearly 6M views on YouTube since its August release.

Asian Doll Drops Seductive New Song “Twice”

Since going independent, Asian Doll has showcased her versatility on numerous occasions but it seems that ever since the passing of her ex-boyfriend King Von, she’s been diving deeper into the sounds of drill. “Nunnadet Shit” was what many would consider her foray into the Chicago subgenre, though it wasn’t necessarily well-received.

This week, the rapper returned with another new single with a unique take on Brooklyn’s variation of a drill. On her new single “Twice,” Asian Doll simultaneously brings out a seductive side through auto-tuned tweaked melodies over a high-octane drill production. This might be the most accurate glimpse at Asian Doll’s pop sensibilities, especially after proving that she can hold her own on the microphone.

Check the latest from Asian Doll below and sound off in the comments.

EarthGang Assists Tommy Newport On “Stargazer”

Tommy Newport is giving us a taste of his first piece of music to follow Ultra Mango. The artist returned with his new single, “Stargazer” ft. EarthGang earlier today. Newport delivers a dreamy, upbeat vibe that perfectly fits the eccentric stylings of the Dreamville duo.

“Stargazer was written in LA & I’m honored to have my first released collaboration be with the insanely talented EarthGang,” Newport told Complex. “Once I laid down the hook I knew it felt right. There’s not a dull moment in this song and they absolutely killed it.”

“Working with Tommy is always such a vibe,” producer 4th Pyramid said. “Being able to finally tie in his sound to my hip-hop roots was something I’ve wanted to do. EarthGang brings a kaleidoscope of creativity and were the perfect pairing to complement our sound. It was a no brainer to get them on this record.”
