Conway The Machine & Murda Beatz Have Done It Again On “KD”

Conway The Machine is applying so much pressure to the game that it’s a wonder we haven’t seen a full-scale collapse. And yet still he continues, having officially dropped off his second project of the year in La Maquina. Featuring guest appearances from J.I.D, Ludacris, Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, and his Drumwork signees Jae Skeese and 7xvethegenius, Machine also happened to stage a reunion with “Anza” producer Murda Beatz.

While he’s been proven to shine on grimy production from Daringer, Beat Butcher, and Alchemist, there’s something about Murda’s production that awakens a new side of The Machine. Over a spooky backdrop of creeping piano and faint wailing brass, Conway quickens the flow with a slick homage to Kodak Black’s “No Flockin” before truly going off. Lyrically, he remains among the game’s most formidable, doling out threats with a delivery that’s alarmingly sincere. “Pressure ni*ga, we like, “Please pull up”, we gon’ air at you,” he spits. “Last ni*ga tried to play with me / You know they found the fuck ni*ga dead after.”

Check out La Maquina right here, a project that once again highlights his impressive versatility. Here’s to more Murda Beatz and Machine collaborations to come, as they’re currently on a bit of a winning streak.

Young Thug & Gunna Have Their Latest Hit On “Ski” From “Slime Language 2”

The demand for Slime Language 2 intensified after the snippet went viral to Young Thug and Gunna’s “Ski.” The song, backed by a beat made by Wheezy, BabyWave, and Outtatown, is infectious and reminiscent of some of Thug and Wunna’s best co-existing records. Much like they started on “Surf,” the duo of YSL Records stars return with another wavy effort in “Ski.”

The track is already all over TikTok, which essentially rushed the Atlanta-based record label to hurry up and drop the full-length album. Slime Language 2 was released last night, coming after nearly a full year of teases from the group. The collective managed to get an insane amount of guest support, including from Drake, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, Future, and more, but “Ski” remains one of the funnest tracks on the 23-song display. For many, it’s sure to stay in rotation for weeks and months to come.

What do you think of the latest collaboration from Young Thug and Gunna? Listen to Slime Language 2 here.

Quotable Lyrics:

The price I want for a show, you gon’ need three promoters
I got the body from Jim Ellis, but I had switched the motor
I got these badass b*tches riding ’round this b*tch and they all the coldest
I just told her make a store run
I just bought all the Trojans, yeah
I told her stay out my mentions
I told her stop telling everything she seen and told her, “Meet me at the Ritz”
I got baguettes in the back of my ring and I wasn’t even tryna hit
I told her she gotta run through the team before she can talk to the leader

Lil West Shares First Single Of 2021 With Summer-Ready “West Side”

Things have been relatively quiet from Lil West in recent months, but it seems that the Delaware native has been hard at work. The rising rapper shared two projects in 2019,Vex Pt. 1 and Vex Pt 2, and at the top of the quarantine in April 2020, West partnered with Brevin Kim for their genre-blending collaborative effort, Metallic Body Language.

Since that time, Lil West fans have been awaiting news regarding new releases, and on Friday (April 16), the rapper shared his latest single, “West Side.” The track arrives courtesy of Republic Records and is his first release of 2021, but isn’t expected to be his last. Lil West shared his excitement about his bouncy, Steezefield-produced single over on Instagram where he wrote, “Lets RAGE a lil bit & have fun [red devil emoji][fire emoji] love y’all and thank you for still rockin wit me.”

Redman Holds Down His Legendary Reputation On “80 Barz”

There aren’t many rappers who can hold down a legacy like Redman. The New Jersey native has been impressing in the booth for decades, and he keeps his reputation solid on his latest release, “80 Barz.” After years—and we mean years—of broken promises regarding the release of Muddy Waters 2, Redman claims that we’ll finally receive the record sometime this year. Keep your fingers crossed.

“80 Barz” also arrives days ahead of what’s expected to be another internet-breaking Verzuz involving Redman and Method Man. The How High brothers and longtime friends will bring their classics to the table in a smoke-filled, lifted virtual event that will be a one-of-a-kind experience. Stream Reggie Noble’s “80 Barz” and let us know your thoughts.

IDK & Offset Want To Make Your Body Move With “Shoot My Shot”

Days ago, we received IDK’s smooth cover of Pharrell Williams’s famed “Frontin’,” and now he’s back with an Offset collaboration. There has been quite a bit of teasing from IDK about new music waiting in the wings, and fans are excited to get two tracks in a week’s time. The London-born, Maryland-raised artist took a break from modeling for the latest cover of Clash magazine to deliver “Shoot My Shot,” a T-Minus production that should be played at obscene volumes.

Although we received IDK & Friends 2 last year, there has yet to be an official follow-up to IDK’s 2019 debut album, Is He Real. While we wait on his forthcoming USEE4YOURSELF, check out the booty-shaking “Shoot My Shot” visual below and let us know what you think of the collaboration.

*side note* It seems that IDK may have removed Saweetie’s name from the lyrics where he references her hit track, “My Type.” Genius lists him as saying “My type, My type, like Saweetie, my type,” but the final version doesn’t include her name, which may be fallout from her breakup with Quavo.

Quotable Lyrics

My type, my type, (aw yeah), my type
Like Biggie, if the head right, I’m there all night
Like Yeezy, when I see it, I’ma hit it on sight

DMX, Swizz Beatz, & French Montana Collide On “Been To War”

Prior to his untimely passing, DMX is said to have worked on one last album. The plans on the project’s release remain a mystery for the time being, but on Friday (April 16), the world received a new Dark Man X track courtesy of the Godfather of Harlem soundtrack. The second season of the hit EPIX series returns on April 18, and in anticipation, “Been To War” hit streaming services.

The posthumous DMX single also features Swizz Beatz and French Montana, and it’s clear that X was back in his pocket and ready to shine on the mic once more. The hard-hitting, marching-styled production from Swizz Beatz, Avenue Beatz, and Musicman Ty perfectly complement the trio’s collaboration, so stream “Been To War” and share your thoughts.

Playboi Carti’s Self-Titled Debut Housed The Summer 2017 Hit Record “Magnolia”

Playboi Carti fans are patiently awaiting the release of the deluxe version of Whole Lotta Red. Carti’s polarizing sophomore album arrived during the final days of 2020 on Christmas Day, and many fans were caught off-guard by the AWGE artist’s huge sonic and stylistic shift following his beloved 2018 cult classic Die Lit.

Long before he became the “King Vamp,” however, Playboi Carti was quietly proving that he was one of the most captivating SoundCloud artists to touch a microphone. Four years ago on April 14, the Atlanta artist dropped his long-awaited and highly anticipated self-titled debut mixtape.

Playboi Carti featured several noteworthy tracks, including “Location,” “wokeuplikethis*,” and “Half & Half,” but no song best captures the insane hype surrounding the AWGE artist than “Magnolia.” A vibe check in its purest form, “Magnolia” is a perfect representative of Carti’s early commercial output and proof that his tendency to value style over substance often pays off.
