$UICIDEBOY$ Drop “Materialism As A Means To An End”

Today, the duo of Ruby and $crim — better known as $UICIDEBOY$ — have released a new single from their upcoming album Long Term Effects Of Suffering. In keeping with their tradition of creative song titles, the pair has dropped off “Materialism As A Means To An End,” which in itself opens the door to many wider interpretations.

Musically, we’re looking at a few key $UICIDEBOY$ staples here. For one, we’re in straight-up horror-flick territory, as this one boasts an eerie instrumental that’s somehow playful in all the wrong ways. Two, it’s got that undeniably blistering blast of hard-hitting percussion we’ve come to expect from the BOY$, who attack their sinister production with the swagger we’ve come to expect.

As it stands, they’ve gone three for three insofar as LTEOS singles are concerned, and by the time the album drops on August 13th, perhaps we’ll be looking at their best one yet.

Mahalia Returns With “Whenever You’re Ready”

It’s only been a few months since Leicester, England singer Mahalia dropped “Jealous” with Rico Nasty, though thankfully Mahalia hasn’t slowed her momentum. The UK singer returns just in time for the summer with “Whenever You’re Ready,” a self-love anthem that finds the singer wearing her confidence on her sleeve as she moves through a breakup. Mahalia slides gracefully over the bright and groovy production (sampled from the 90’s hit “Get It On Tonight” by Montell Jordan), solidifying the track as a definite Summer jam.

“I’m so gassed to be releasing this song. I remember the first time hearing Montell Jordan’s Get It On Tonight in Save The Last Dance when I was a kid. It’s been a song that has made me wanna dance ever since and sampling it in Whenever You’re Ready is really special to me,” Mahalia said about “Whenever You’re Ready.” She goes on to describe what the track means to her: “I was going through a breakup at the time and really wanted to capture this part of that process. It’s my new summer jam. I hope everyone loves it as much as I do!”

With the new song’s 90’s aesthetic and immediately groovy foundation, the track proves to be another highlight in Mahalia’s discography.

Quotable Lyrics:

That you ain’t nothing without me
I’m nothing without you
There’s too much history
Yeah, we got something good
But I’ma set you free
You won’t be gone for good
No, I’m not worried

21 Savage & 42 Dugg Bring Drill Heat On Pop Smoke’s “Bout A Million”

Many have been skeptical about the massive number of features on Pop Smoke’s second posthumous album, Faith, prompting concern about the use of unfinished and unnecessary song releases. However, “Bout A Million” featuring 21 Savage and 42 Dugg is as polished and impressive as any track from the late New York rapper’s previous releases. Fitted with Pop Smoke’s signature charisma and both guests’ first verses on a New York beat, “Bout A Million” is absolutely a standout on Faith’s tracklist.

The song starts off as Pop Smoke delivers one of his catchiest hooks to date over an addictive drill beat with an elegant lead guitar (reminiscent of “For the Night” off of his previous release). The late rapper gets incrementally more aggressive about his flexing as the slide 808s of the beat come in. Pop Smoke even namedrops 21 Savage, “21, I’m a savage,” alluding to the finished nature of the track.

42 Dugg fits perfectly when he comes on to the track with his effortless and casual flow. However, when 21 Savage follows him, it’s clear 21 is stealing the show. His almost monotone voice seems meant for a cold drill beat such as the one on “Bout A Million”, and his increasingly complex flow is nothing but impressive for the trap rapper.

“Bout A Million” separates itself from the rest of the songs on Faith as notably polished and well-constructed. Between the aggressive beat and the three vocalists, everyone does their part to create what may be this Summer’s most ruthless banger.

Check out the track below and let us know what you think.

From the front to the back then it’s back to the right

Grey cup, do your stuff
Take a sip then you dip with the hip-hop

Willow & Tierra Whack Take A Moment To Breathe On “XTRA”

On Willow’s fourth studio album, the young musician and Red Table Talk host went full-on punk with an eleven-track effort that features rock and pop-punk acts such as Travis Barker, Avril Lavigne, and Cherry Glazerr. Of everyone who appears on lately I feel EVERYTHING, however, no feature was more surprising than Tierra Whack.

The incredibly talented Philadelphia-born rapper has an emotional guest verse on the album’s ninth track, “XTRA,” and the song shows a more vulnerable side of Tierra Whack than fans typically get to see from her.

Built around the premise of getting away from an emotional draining, toxic, and overall “XTRA” romantic interest, the track finds Willow and Teirra Whack waxing poetic about their individual struggles, but as both artists proclaim in the angelic bridge, all they needed was some time away from the situation to be okay again.

Miss me with the fake apologies, you’re being extra

Toosii Speaks From The Heart On “Head Over Hills”

Not long after Toosii came through to hold it down with an impressive turn on the XXL Freshman Cypher, where he showcased some storytelling chops while taking his verse in an unexpected and emotionally driven direction. Now, he’s back to follow-up on the momentum with “Head Over Hills, an introspective new single that finds him once again getting into his romantic bag.

“I done fell in love with a down bitch, I done told her that I love her,” he admits, over a lush blend of plucked guitars and vocal samples. “But I never thought that I’d ever be no ass-kisser / Seen your silhouette in person ‘fore I ever seen that challenge / Think you crazy and you lovey-dovey, that’s a perfect balance.” It’s a sincere message from the rapper, who leads by example when it comes to paying homage to his better half.

Fat Joe, Remy Ma, And Cool & Dre Are “Back Outside”

Fat Joe is back — more specifically, he’s back outside. Today, the legendary Don Cartegena has delivered his new single “Back Outside” with longtime collaborators Remy Ma and Cool & Dre. Though the track itself is relatively brief, clocking in at a little over two minutes, Joe and Remy make the most of it by absolutely sliding over the bouncy production.

“It’s her birthday, shine a light on her,” raps Joe. “Put a Richie on her wrist, real bright on her / Gauthier dress on her hips, real tight on her / her man left to get a drink, got right on her.” An opportunist to the end. Remy Ma follows suit for the closing verse, kicking a slick and straightforward flow as she fires off flexes. “I’m in my old hood driving in my new whip,” she spits. “With your old n***a, I’m his new bitch.”

Check out “Back Outside” now, and sound off in the comments with your thoughts on Joe and Remy’s new Cool & Dre-produced single.

Logic Sings His Heart Out On “My Way”

Many rappers have followed the wisdom of the legendary trailblazer Frank Sinatra, who famously declared “I did it my way” and made history in the process. Today, Logic has made a similar claim, albeit in a vastly different fashion from the crooner. With his comeback in full swing and playing out one song at a time, the briefly retired artist has opted to explore uncharted musical territory on “My Way.”

Setting a tone with a passionate, slightly autotuned vocal performance, Logic’s latest might prove a little bubblegum for those hoping to see some bars. Yet part of what’s making Logic’s new music so refreshing is his complete unwillingness to conform. “I’m on ten, homie, I’m on ten,” he belts. “Just me and my family and all my friends / We gon’ do it all the way ’til the fuckin’ end / I’ma do it my way, I won’t ever bend.”

That’s not to say he’s lost his rapper’s edge, throwing in a few heavyweight flexes for good measure. “If you got my money then you do it your way,” he taunts, before sliding into his second and final verse. Check out “My Way” now, and sound off if you’ve been enjoying this new direction from Logic.
