Strick & Kaash Paige Capture A Dark Disco Vibe “Bad Girl”

YSL’s own Strick has been steadily putting in work, having contributed to his label’s recent compilation album Slime Language 2 on songs “WokStar” with Skepta and “Moon Man” with Kid Cudi. Now, he’s back with a single of his own, enlisting Kaash Paige for the strange, hypnotic, downright original “Bad Girl.”

In terms of tone, Strick and Paige’s duet manages to toe the line between eerie and romantic, an interesting aesthetic that isn’t always seen on songs like this. The instrumental is certainly fitting for a dancefloor with its pulsating beat, but the atmospheric synthesizers bring this one into darker territory. The accompanying video certainly enhances the vibe, beginning with an excellent long-take and featuring a stellar use of color and lighting. Overall, it’s clear that Strick has a vision he’s looking to convey, and “Bad Girl” is a promising glimpse at a potential album sound.

With strong performances from both Strick and Kaash Paige — who adds a new layer of character to the morally ambiguous love story — and a standout arrangement, “Bad Girl” may very well find a cult fanbase that welcomes it with open arms.

Hyperpop Rapper Midwxst Releases New Single “Tic Tac Toe”

Hyper-pop has been dominating all year with artists including 100 gecs, glaive, and many others making noise on the internet. With an amplified focus on catchy melodies and electronic-based nostalgic production, a lane has been forming for hip-hop to create yet another subgenre, slightly differing from the rage sound being popularized by artists like Trippie Redd, Playboi Carti, and Lil Uzi Vert.

Over the last few months, Indiana artist midwxst has been blowing up on TikTok, creating unmissable rhymes over blaring synths and production that feels like it was made specifically for 16-bit video games. Today, the rising rapper released his new video for “Tic Tac Toe,” making his official HNHH introduction with the Nirvan-directed video.

midwxst is truly like nothing that you’ve heard before in hip-hop. Check out his new song below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Playin’ my opps like tic tac toe
If I really wanted to, I could steal your hoe
My head on a swivel, I stay on my toes
Don’t wanna text you, I’m finna go ghost
Doin’ too much, bitch you doin’ the most
When I get me a deal, I’m finna have a toast
Go to Chicago, I feel like D Rose
You know that I’m speeding when I hit the road

A$AP TyY Returns With “100 Rounds”

Following the release of his recent single “1990,” A$AP TyY has kept the streak alive with another new release. This time, he’s attacking head-on with full intensity, loading up “100 Rounds” on his latest hard-hitting track. The song’s release arrives in tandem with the announcement that TyY is officially the face of Australian streetwear brand Ksubi’s first gold jewelry line “KSUBI GOLD”; leave it to the A$AP Mob to blend the worlds of fashion and music so effectively.

As for “100 Rounds,” TyY makes short work of the smoldering production, his cadence sounding straight-up feral as he growls his way through the chorus. One of the track’s most interesting elements is the duality in his flow, which alternates between aggressive and restrained. The contrast showcases some welcome creativity, creating a Jekyll & Hyde effect a la DMX’s classic “Stop Being Greedy,” if less compelling in execution. Still, “100 Rounds” is a solid drop from A$AP TyY, and it should be interesting to see what his next full-length album might sound like, given the current wave he’s on.

Zombie Juice Drops Off Hazy New Solo Track “Alto”

From releasing a graphic novel to preparing for a stacked live concert on Halloween, this year has been a busy one for Flatbush Zombies. Still, two of the group’s artists have still found the time to venture off to work on their solo material. Meechy Darko has already confirmed that his solo album is finally nearing completion, and now it appears that Zombie Juice may have some exciting releases on the way as well.

On Tuesday, Juice shared the six-minute freestyle “Jackin’ For Beats” on YouTube, SoundCloud, and Audiomack, and one day later, he has already returned with an official single, available on all streaming services.

Titled “Alto,” Juice’s hazy new solo track finds him teaming up with Devin The Dude and Rae Khalil over some smooth Erick The Architect production. Check out the visualizer for “Alto” below and let us know in the comments if you’re feeling the Flatbush Zombies rapper’s solo output as of late.

Quotable Lyrics

This shit loud, flava in ya ear
How high? Too high to meet me in the air
Sold out with Red and Meth, ten thousand in the stands (Hold up)
I used to dream of days like this on the 2-train
Packs in my knapsack, smellin’ up the whole thang
Please ash before you pass it, boo thang
Higher than a balcony, baby, I need the whole thang

The Game Returns For A “Worldwide Summer Vacation”

The Game has always been a rapper who appreciates a good vacation. First, he lined up a “California Vacation” on his sophomore album The Doctor’s Advocate. Now, he’s coming through with another new single, this time gearing up for some globetrotting on “Worldwide Summer Vacation,” a breezy west-coast bounce that may signal a forthcoming project from the west coast emcee.

Rather than going down the bar-spitting route, Game opts for a feel-good vibe over a Duke-produced instrumental. A straightforward ode to the tried-and-true combination of “party and bullshit,” “Worldwide Summer Vacation” is relatively low-stakes insofar as lyricism. For the most part, he’s celebrating the leagues of ladies in his life, a fact highlighted by the accompanying music video.  “This that Caribana summer parade shit, this that ‘girl fuck it up to my ni*ga Drake’ shit,” raps Game. “I know you on your demon time, I aint gon say shit.”

Look for this one to be included on an upcoming playlist, which is set to feature plenty of new music from The Game. What do you think of this new direction for the lyricist?

Wiley Goes In On “I Ain’t Gonna Fold”

Wiley’s as contentious as it gets. Though his controversial statements in the past have led to rightful consequences, he’s remained steady in his release schedule. It seems like he’s kept a slew of bangers on deck that he’s been unloading onto the public. This week, he returned with the adrenaline-pumping single, “I Ain’t Gonna Fold.” The rapper takes the bass-heavy production, which gives you a better glimpse at grime’s influence on UK drill and completely demolishes it with fast-paced flows. The song features another grime vet, Kozzie, who slides through on the second verse with a monstrous presence.

The new single from Wiley follows the release of tracks like “Tour Bus” and “Tinted Metro.”

Stay tuned for more information on Wiley’s forthcoming project, Anti-Systemic.

All your little dead tactics, them are old
I can see through you, you’re a fake mold
And I can’t chat shit with you, I’m too cold

BlocBoy JB Tackles A Dr. Dre Classic On “Forgot Bout Bloc”

There was a point where it felt like BlocBoy JB was dropping a new track every single week. He’s slowed down on the releases since those times but he could be picking up the pace in the future. This week, the rapper returned with a freestyle over an absolute classic with “Forgot Bout Bloc.” On his latest track, the rapper tackles Dr. Dre’s “Forgot About Dre” with braggadocious bars and high energy.

There’s a high standard to uphold anytime a rapper tackles BlocBoy JB but he still managed to put his own twist on the timeless record. BlocBoy’s latest freestyle marks his first in four months since dropping his take on Cardi B’s “Up.”

Chynna’s Posthumous Single “Seasonal Depression Pt. 2” Is Here

Last year, Philadelphia rapper Chynna passed away at the age of 25 following an accidental drug overdose. A little over one year later, Chynna’s family have announced her first posthumous album Drug Opera, sharing the first single “Seasonal Depression Pt. 2” in the process.

Over a melancholic and hypnotic beat produced by Suicideyear & Nedarb, the track picks up where its predecessor left off, setting a laid-back and contemplative vibe. Chynna locks in with a focused flow and understated lyricism, never raising her voice far beyond a whisper. As the song progresses, she begins to introduce new flows, showcasing her ability to lose herself in an instrumental. It will certainly be interesting to hear how “seasonal depression pt. 2” fits within the greater narrative of Drug Opera.

Speaking of which, look for Chynna’s first posthumous album to land on August 20th.

Flee Lord & Roc Marciano Tap Stove God Cooks For “Trim the Fat”

Flee Lord and Roc Marciano announced their joint project Delgado last month. The project, entirely produced by Roc Marciano, serves as Flee Lord’s follow-up Rammellzee produced entirely by DJ Muggs. With the project due out on Aug. 27th, the two have united to unveil the first single off of the project, “Trim The Far” ft. Stove God Cooks.

“The project that Roc and I put together has some amazing features, and we spent a good amount of time trying to figure out who we were going to tap for which song, but with ‘Trim The Fat,’ as soon as I heard the beat, before I even recorded my vocals, I knew I needed Stove God to touch this,” Flee Lord told Complex. “I ran it by Roc and he felt the same way. Knowing how crazy Stove God was going to go on this motivated me to and I went to work. After Roc and I heard Stove’s verse, there was no doubt that we had to kick things off with ‘Trim The Fat.’”

Elcamino & Keisha Plum Connect On “Fashionably Late”

Personal adversities forced Elcamino to lay low for a bit. Even still, he’s remained incredibly prolific in his output. Last year, he dropped off seven full length projects, on top of other collaborations and solo releases. He’s already offered fans projects like Block Work and On The 3rd Day with TrickyTrippz with a third project on its way later this year.

Last week, Elcamino came through with a brand new single off of his forthcoming project, Let There Be Light. Tapping Griselda’s Keisha Plum, Elcamino dropped off his latest single, “Fashionably Late.” The single boasts production credits from StreetRunner.

The latest single from Elcamino serves as the follow-up to “My Way” which dropped in July.
