NLE Choppa Drops Hard New Single “Mmm Hmm”

One of the hardest rappers out of Memphis, 18-year-old NLE Choppa has just released his new self-directed music video for “Mmm Hmm,” his new single.

The video starts with the teenage rapper/aspiring herbalist boarding a private plane and smoking cigars on vacation. Then, he assumes the role of a cosmetic surgeon, putting all his gear on and performing a Brazilian butt lift on one of his female friends.

The funny new video was released a few hours ago and already, it’s racked up over 300,000 views. The track is hard-hitting and features a prominent ad-lib, which ended up becoming the song’s title. This is the latest proof that NLE Choppa is one of the strongest rappers from his zone and he deserves all the opportunities he’s being handed.

Check out “Mmm Hmm” below.

Quotable Lyrics:

I want a nut like a n***a named Sandy
I woke up this morning, I feel like the man
Woke up this morning, I’m choosing the violence for all of these n***a they playin’, I’m sayin’
Bro popped a Xan like it was a vitamin
He ain’t wake up ’til a n***a had landed

Rick Ross, Rich Brian, & DJ Snake Join Forces On “Run It”

Marvel’s Shang-Chi & The Legend Of The Ten Rings is shaping up to have a solid soundtrack, with a heavy presence from 88 Rising’s roster on board for the ride. From the sound of it, the project appears to be embracing the hip-hop sound, with a posse cut from Rich Brian, 21 Savage, Warren Hue, and Masiwei dropping earlier this week. Now, DJ Snake, Rich Brian, and Rick Ross have united for “Run It,” another hard-hitting banger from the upcoming Marvel flick.

Over a Snake-produced beat that might lend itself quite nicely to a fight scene or two — especially once those breaks hit — Rich Brian sets it off with a flow that probably deserves more credit from hip-hop heads. Rick Ross hardly pulls his punches as he keeps stride with Brian, flexing a bit of dexterity in his traditionally brawl-heavy style. There’s an interesting contrast between the two rappers, and DJ Snake brings it all together with high-octane cinematic flair.

Check out Run It now, and look for Marvel’s Shang Chi to hit theaters and Disney+ on September 3rd.

I bought a Rari and I did it just to hear the sound

Meek Mill Stands Up With “Mandela Freestyle”

Meek Mill has been working on his follow-up to Championships for a minute now, and today he’s gifted fans with a holdover by way of the “Mandela Freestyle.” The song serves a dual purpose, arriving in celebration after Meek was awarded the Nelson Mandela Changemaker Award for his work with the REFORM Alliance.

Now, Meek has opted to gather his thoughts in the booth, offering up a potent dose of social commentary delivered with his signature fiery passion. “Can you believe it, in the land of the free I’m fighting for freedom?” he asks, after reflecting on his own frustrating battle with the justice system. “They don’t even have no evidence on em’, they try to keep em / black babies still caught in the system, they tryna Meek em / my new condo overlooks Central Park, and it’s still reekin’.”

It’s clear that this is a topic that Meek holds close to heart, and it’s no surprise that his efforts were rewarded and honored accordingly. Be sure to check out Meek Mill’s emotionally charged “Mandela Freestyle,” a powerful reflection on the justice system and how it has impacted the lives of countless Black men in America.

Benny The Butcher & Conway The Machine Team Up For “Fly With Me”

Benny The Butcher decided to open his vault and release Pyrex Picasso, a seven-song project designed to bridge the gap between proper studio releases. As he tells it, every song was recorded in a single day three years ago, which should please fans hoping to hear a little bit of that classic Benny — not that he’s faltered in the slightest, remaining one of the game’s sharpest emcees today.

In honor of the nostalgic Griselda vibe, we’ve opted to highlight the album’s closing track “Fly With Me,” featuring his longtime collaborator Conway The Machine. You already know that when these two line up on the same song, it’s sort of like putting Sub-Zero in a room with Scorpion. Bloodsport of the lyrical variety. Regardless of which one you might favor, both men play quite nicely off one another and the soulful “Fly With Me” is no exception. Check it out for yourself, and go stream Pyrex Picasso right here.

Swae Lee Releases New Single “Ball Is Life” With Jack Harlow

The brand new Madden NFL 22 soundtrack has arrived and one of the immediate highlights from the project is Swae Lee’s contribution on “Ball Is Life,” which features Jack Harlow.

Swae Lee has been teasing the song hard this week, sharing a preview of the music video and hyping up the release on social media. On Friday, the world finally got to hear what Swae has been working on all year, teaming up with Jack Harlow, who delivers a standout verse where he opens up about his drive and motivation.

The five-minute song includes a couple of verses from Swae, who shines on the hook. However, fans have been raving about Jack Harlow’s verse, during which he speaks about Kendrick Lamar “liking” one of his rap videos on Twitter, theorizing that he possibly related to Jack’s hustle.

Listen to the new single below and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics:

I used to burn CDs and pass ’em around
I used to email the venues and ask ’em if I could be opening act for the rappers that’s passin’ through town
I used to be the one kids in my city was laughin’ about
I used to envision everything happening now
I used to ride the bus and listen to Kendrick Lamar
He just liked the video that I made back when I started to study his bars
I’d like to think that he probably related as someone that’s come so far
As someone that wanted it badly, then went and got it and turned to a star

YNW Melly, Lil Baby, & Lil Durk Get Vulnerable On “Take Kare”

Although he is currently getting ready for his 18th month in jail, controversial Florida rapper YNW Melly has ensured fans that despite his bleak legal circumstances, he’ll be home in just a matter of time. Or rather, Just A Matter Of Slime, like the title of his newly released full-length LP.

Just A Matter Of Slime serves as YNW Melly’s second album from behind bars since he was arrested in 2019, and the 13-track project boasts a star-studded tracklist featuring the likes Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black, Kevin Gates, Young Thug, Queen Naija, and more.

One of the high-profile collaborations housed on Just A Matter Of Slime is “Take Care,” which enlists the help of Voice of the Heroes rappers Lil Baby and Lil Durk. The smooth track finds all three artists in a vulnerable state as they communicate their love and need for their respective love interests.

Give the Lil Baby and Lil Durk-assisted “Take Kare” a listen below, and if you’re feeling it, go ahead and check out the rest of Just A Matter Of Slime here.

Quotable Lyrics

I never drop a dime on a nigga that ain’t my speed bro
How the fuck I’m in Miami on a speed boat
All these pretty women boostin’ up my ego
Tell her “I’ma be here forever”, but then I leave though
How these niggas follow the leader and I’m in the lead though?

Westside Gunn & Fabolous Spit Bars On “Brick After Brick”

Westside Gunn and Fabolous might not be the most similar on a stylistic level, but the pair certainly share a few keen interests. It’s probably why their brand new collaboration — arriving courtesy of the Godfather Of Harlem soundtrack — is titled “Brick After Brick.”

Off the bat, the production is a far cry from what Gunn typically slides on, adding an additional dose of excitement to his starting “Ayo.” While he doesn’t always receive the credit he deserves as an emcee, Gunn stands toe-to-toe with Fab as he urgently attacks his opening verse with vivid gangsta rap imagery. Defaulting as the calculated and collected counterpart, Fab brings his signature punchlines to the mix as he closes things out with an authoritative verse.

Overall, “Brick After Brick” is a strong showing from both contributors, and we can only hope they continue to explore this chemistry on further releases. Check it out now, and sound off — who do you think had the superior verse?

Denzel Curry Returns With A Vengeance On “The Game”

Denzel Curry is gearing up to release his new album Melt My Eyez, See Your Future, and now he’s back to set the stage with his new single “The Game.” Arriving complete with an elaborate visual calling back to the gaming days of yore, Denzel’s latest sets a promising stage for what’s to come. Taking to a slow-paced and impactful bounce, Zel proceeds to lock into a complex flow scheme, implementing a touch of storytelling for added effect.

“The street had only brought me ether and random outburst, I told the hood that I’ma come back, just get me out first,” spits Denzel. “And ni*gas quick to call me sell out, when I’m on the outskirts / Want to know on how I got there, I put in hard work.” He proceeds to circle back to themes first touched on in “Clout Cobain,” putting the rap industry under the magnifying glass — during a particularly sunny day. “Doing all this industry shit, I start to realize, we lookin’ up to junkies and shit, then mimic they lives,” he raps, emphasizing how important it is to make quality music.

Though a little more understated than some of his previous drops, Denzel’s authoritative tone and masterful technical chops give “The Game” undeniable power. Check it out now, and sound off below with your thoughts.

J.I.D Returns With “Ambassel”

It’s been years since the release of J.I.D’s last solo album DiCaprio 2, and while his many contributions to Revenge Of The Dreamers 3 did make the downtime a little less painful, it’s reaching a critical point. Luckily, the Atlanta lyricist has returned in the nick of time with “Ambassel,” a new single set to be included on the brand new Madden 22 soundtrack.

Once again reuniting with his trusted collaborator Christo, J.I.D immediately gets busy as he kicks up a locked-in flow scheme. While some might find it difficult to keep up, those that tap into his pace will find much clever wordplay and vivid imagery to unpack. At this point, it feels as if J.I.D is simply engaging in warm-up drills before the big game, unscheduled though it may be. Still, the raw talent J.I.D exhibits behind the mic keep even the practice sessions exciting, especially when his bloodlust runs high.

Check out “Ambassel” now, and pray that its arrival means that a J.I.D’s next studio album is on the horizon.
