Cassidy Drops Third Tory Lanez Diss Track “Lullabye”

The feud between Cassidy and Tory Lanez continues. The Philadelphia rapper previously accused Tory of biting his style during a freestyle, though the Canadian rapper insisted he was simply paying tribute. The response didn’t suffice and a back-and-forth ensued on wax and social media. And while Tory only fired back on his freestyle over A$AP Rocky’s “Ghetto Symphony,” Cassidy’s back at the “SKAT” rapper’s next with a brand new freestyle.

After dropping the 7-minute diss track “Perjury” last week, Cassidy is back with his latest diss track towards Tory, “A Lullabye.” Cassidy’s three-and-a-half-minute effort puts his punchline prowess in plain sight with effortless multi-syllabic rhyme schemes emphasizing his background in the battle rap arena. Though it does show Cass’ ability to adapt to modern production — a common criticism in his recent releases — there’s a lack of oomph in the record. Cass resorts to petty punchlines targeting Tory’s height and hairline that provide a few chuckles. “My gun is too big, you too little to pick it up,” animates a hilarious mental image while a more direct attack like, “You young as hell but you look 40” echoes the internet’s reaction to Tory’s apparent bald patch. Ultimately, it’s a rather anti-climatic diss track.

It seems unlikely that we’ll hear Tory deliver another response on wax but he did chime in on the record on Instagram. He commented under a post, “He was on YouTube searching like…. ‘YOUNG N***A TYPE BEAT.'”

Check the record below.

Quotable Lyrics
I been the truth when I’m in the booth
You not finna shoot when you ride up
I’ll get you tied up like a business suit
That diss is cute but you kept it short, like your height yo, it’s aight though
Your hair look like it got botox and your face look like it got lipo

DeMar DeRozan Shares Debut Rap Song “500 M Liquid” With Problem

Finally, DeMar DeRozan has released his debut rap song, titled “500 M Liquid.” The track features Problem, and it’s the first record that the NBA star has ever released.

Previously, the Chicago Bulls star revealed that he could rap, claiming that Drake and Kendrick Lamar have both complimented his skills. On Tuesday, he’s finally showing his bars to the world though, dropping “500 M Liquid” on Instagram and Twitter.

The beat sounds like it was tailormade for Drake, but the former Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs star slides over the instrumental. The track comes complete with a shoutout for Zach LaVine.

DaBaby Responds To Controversy On “Whole Lotta Money”

DaBaby has had an interesting month, to say the least. By now, it’s widely known that he faced backlash following a now-infamous Rolling Loud rant, which ultimately led to him being dropped from a variety of festivals. And while he did issue an apology, DaBaby has remained defiant for the most part, an attitude that continues to carry forward in his music.

Case in point, DaBaby has come through with a brand new freestyle, simply titled “Whole Lotta Money.” Arriving alongside some visuals, DaBaby wastes little time in poking fun at his current situation, referring to himself as “DaBaby’s canceled ass” in the opening credits. He proceeds to spit a lengthy verse, addressing his detractors and making it clear that he remains unfazed in the face of the ongoing criticism. “Broke ass n***a, too bad I’m already having, too bad I own all my cars and my masters,” he raps. “Too bad I already made my investments, cry me a river I’m over here laughing.”

If you’re curious about seeing how DaBaby intends on moving forward, look no further than “Whole Lotta Money.” Share your thoughts below.

Tiwa Savage & Brandy Effortlessly Float Through “Somebody’s Son”

It was an emotional moment when Tiwa Savage heard Brandy’s vocals on her song, “Somebody’s Son.” The track is featured on the Nigerian singer’s recently released EP Water & Garri, a five-track project that features looks from Brandy, Nas, and others. The R&B-Afrobeats star shared a video to Instagram of the moment she was with the Moesha icon and heard those additional vocals for the first time, and Tiwa had to get up and leave the room. She wrote in the caption that it hit her “like a gospel song” and the video goes on to show both women shedding tears of joy at the collaboration.

In a recent interview with Allure, Tiwa, who has been hailed far and wide for her contributions to the Afrobeats genre, spoke about remaining true to her authentic self—a journey that has often been riddled with twists, turns, and some regrets. She admitted that hen shee was younger, she tried bleaching her skin. The effort has resulted in discolored patches on her body and it was only after her mother found out that she decided to stop. Once she began realizing her impact musically, she was determined to change her way of thinking.

“When I started my career I wasn’t embracing who I was fully yet because I was just trying to crack into the market,” she told the magazine. “My first two singles were very American and it wasn’t very African. But then, as time went on, I just started seeing how powerful my platform was and how mothers would say, ‘My little girl really looks up to you.'”

Stream “Somebody’s Son” and let us know what you think of Tiwa Savage and Brandy’s latest.

Skillibeng Goes Drill On “Internet War”

Skillibeng has received some massive looks this year. Nicki Minaj came through and remixed his single, “Crocodile Teeth” before Tory Lanez offered a freestyle over the record to a lesser effect.  Then, he made the New York connection even stronger when he connected with Rich The Kid and Jay Critch. While his dancehall stylings have proven to create club anthems, it’s the street sensibilities and trap influence that has helped set Skillibeng apart from many of his contemporaries in dancehall.

Even though he’s just warming up, he came through with some more heat this week with the release of his single, “Internet War.” Another display of his versatility, he takes on drill production with an eerie Eastern vocal sample and a triplet flow.

Ivorian Doll Pops Out On “Bow Down”

Drill music has been claiming its stake across the world. From its birthplace in Chicago, cities in Africa, Europe, and even Asia have birthed their own scenes inspired by the regional sound to emerge out of the midwest in the early 2010s. UK, specifically, has had a firm grip on drill culture in the past few years but there have only been a few women to emerge victorious in the scene.

Ivorian Doll has been making a big splash in the UK scene over the past few years, though she hasn’t dropped off any solo music this year. On Friday, she emerged with her first drop of 2021 titled, “Bow Down” where she makes her presence felt over high-energy production infusing elements of drill and afrobeats together.

King Promise Taps Headie One For “Ring My Line”

The summer isn’t done yet, though we are rapidly approaching the fall. Until September hits and school starts, the turn up shall continue. That being said, there’s still an abundance of summer anthems that are starting to arrive closer to when the season comes to a close. On Friday, King Promise slid through with a brand new record titled, “Ring My Line” ft. Headie One. A perfect anthem for sunny days at the beach, the vibrant sounds of Ghana match the island-inspired visuals with Headie One sliding through with a smooth verse.

Headie One has unveiled a few new singles since the release of 2020’s EDNA. Along with a deluxe edition of the project, he also teamed up with FKA Twigs and Fred again… on “Don’t Judge Me” and also dropped off his single, “Pound Signs.”

Money Man & BC JRoc Team Up On “Dr. Rose”

The rap game is good but there’s definitely bigger bags to collect in the world of orthodontia. Last year, Houston dentist/rapper Dr. Rose made headlines after he was shot in an attempted robbery. Thankfully, he survived the shooting and is now the inspiration behind the latest release from Money Man.

The Atlanta rapper returned this week with a brand new banger alongside BC JRoc titled, “Dr. Rose.” Over shimmering trap production, the auto-tuned triplet flows delve deep into their spending habits, street politics, and even what’s on their watchlist (Money Man is heavy on Ozark these days).

Money Man has been delivering a steady stream of music this year including the singles, “LLC,” “Live Sum Mo” and the Young Dolph-assisted banger, “Whole Lotta.”
