K.A.A.N. Gets Real On “Gone”

K.A.A.N. pieced together an amazing project, entitled Sunset Crest Dr. The album is going under the radar right now, due to the hype surrounding both Kanye and Drake’s projects. However, K.A.A.N. shines bright on his album and it should not be slept on.

While listening to Sunset Crest Dr., it’s hard to pick just one song that stands out amongst the rest. So many tracks resonate, such as “Gone.”K.A.A.N. vents on his smooth single. The instrumental is comprised of what sounds like a pitched-up barbershop quartet harmonizing together while vigorous percussions give the track a live feel. K.A.A.N. also offers words of advice for listeners without sounding preachy or trite. Check out “Gone” and let us know what you think below.

Quotable Lyrics
I compartmentalize the pain
But I can’t seem to find my way
I just been going through the motions every motherfucking day
Nigga when that pressure start to build, Lord knows I know the way that feel
Shit’ll get real
Making irrational decisions
I hope your wound’ll heal, yeah

Shy Glizzy & No Savage Get Gully On “Mood Switch”

Shy Glizzy and the Glizzy Gang worked to bring fans their compilation tape Don’t Feed The Sharks, and it has arrived. The project shines a spotlight on lesser-known members of Glizzy Gang, including No Savage, 3 Glizzy, Goo Glizzy, and Taliban Glizzy. One track that really sticks out on the album is “Mood Switch” featuring No Savage.

“Mood Switch” features a creepy synth that would fit right in during Halloween. The easy-paced percussions give both rappers enough space to air out their flows properly on the track. The concept of the song doesn’t really fit with the title, however, when listening to the record it’s easy to see how your own mood would change. There’s just something about those haunting synths that will make you settle into gully mode immediately.

Quotable Lyrics
Keep on making hits
I fell out with niggas just because I didn’t give them shit
You don’t know the feeling when you love ’em but they still switch
But I’m still lit, and I’m still turnt, and I’m still rich

Gucci Mane Joins 1017’s BiC Fizzle On “On God” Banger

It’s getting hard to make a case against Gucci Mane’s New 1017 being one of the hardest rosters in the South at the moment. Despite the setbacks that the incarcerations of Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano have presented, Gucci’s ear is taking no breaks and he’s packing out the lineup with a solid group of names in the meantime.

This summer, Gucci went on a particular signing spree. Among those added to 1017 was Arkansas high schooler BiC Fizzle and on his latest “On God” cut featuring fellow rapper Cootie and the 1017 honcho, his place at the label is a no-brainer.

The three men spill over on the Tay Keith-crafted backdrop to create a hard-hitting soundtrack that doesn’t veer from formulas long perfected in the Bible Belt for an easy to consume bop. Hey, if it ain’t broke.

Listen below.

Quotable Lyrics

Straight out the jungle, that youngin survived
That hunger and hustle, it’s stuck in his eyes
Switch on the blick, now it rapidly firin’
Claimin’ they step, but niggas be lyin’, on God

Soulja Boy Is Going At Necks On “What You Doin”

There’s hardly ever a moment where Soulja Boy isn’t flexing on his adversaries. You can’t blame him, either. Over the course of his career, he’s been constantly counted out, even when it comes to the discourse surrounding his influence. Frankly, there’s a lot of rappers that wouldn’t be able to have succeeded without the blueprint that Soulja Boy laid down.

This year, specifically, Soulja Boy has been on an impeccable run. Though “She Make It Clap” has been his biggest song in nearly a decade, the rapper’s been keeping a steady stream of music on deck. On Friday, he released Swag 4 — a mixtape that treads similar grounds to his other offerings. However, Soulja’s ear for beats is still unmatched. On “What You Doin,” Soulja employs Protege Beats who puts Eastern strings and 808s in a blender for a blistering banger. Meanwhile, the beat serves as the perfect canvas for Soulja Boy to talk his sh*t.

Quotable Lyrics
Breakin’ down this pack, what the fuck you doin’?
All this money coming, y’aint cashin’ out, what you doing?
This a droptop, boy this ain’t no mothafuckin’ Buick
Y’aint getting to no money, n***a, what the fuck you doing?

Davido Joins Adekunle Gold On “High”

As Afrobeat and its sub-genres continue to weave their way into music’s global influence, the emergence of voice worthy of crossover success is not waning.

Among those are Adekunle Gold, who has tapped into a self-branded Afro Pop style that finds the Nigerian musician putting together a rather addictive catalog, even bringing names like Lucky Daye, NAO, and Wizkid along for the ride. This time around, AG taps Davido for homegrown vibes on his latest “High” track, the latest in a string of singles designed to lead us into his forthcoming project.

The uptempo cut veers slightly off path from the smoldering Lucky Daye-assisted “Sinner” selection that precedes it as Davido and AG trade off on croonings of the “high” life and all its spoils. Get into it below.

Quotable Lyrics

For this party
Let’s get naughty
Can’t call mummy
Can’t call daddy
Vision blurry
Words are slurry

-Davido

Blu Connects With Exile For “They Call Me Blu(e)”

Blu & Exile have proven to be two of the best collaborators in hip-hop since 2006’s Below The Heavens. Blu’s sharp lyrical abilities were met with sample-based production that further amplified his skillset. While they’ve recently reunited for True & Livin’ and Miles, Blu’s on pace to drop off a brand new project this month titled, The Color Blu(e). Ahead of its release, he slid through with a brand new single titled, “They Call Me Blu(e)” where he brings it back to the boom-bap era. Exile’s production puts together crispy drums with buoyant soul vocal samples while Blu cuts through with an effortless flow.

“This album is the ultimate cartoon series about myself,” Blu explained of his album in a press release. “The Color Blu(e) is the cool breeze.  Another day in the life of being Blu.”

Quotable Lyrics
A cab takes me to the studio to lay this feature
Where I speak up on the blues of my life, and bruise the mic
Like I beat her, tell the engineer to turn the beat up
B.L. never fail, even when I fail, said the teacher

Drake Sets The Tone On “CLB” With “Champagne Poetry”

It’s Drizzy season, officially. The highly-anticipated sixth studio album from the Canadian rapper is a 21-song endeavor that finds Drake, once again, proving why he’s still the hottest rapper in the game a decade later. While Drake will continue to be questioned on whether or not he has a classic album, there’s no doubt that he’s delivered some timeless intro tracks. Songs like “Tuscan Leather,” “Free Smoke” and “Over My Dead Body” excellently set the tone for their respective albums.

On Certified Lover Boy, Drake slides over a Masego sample for “Champagne Poetry.” The pitched-up vocal sample and jazzy bass kick the song off before Drake offers a plethora of Instagram quotable bars as he details his position in the rap game. “Under a picture lives some of the greatest quotes from me/ Under me I see all the people that claim they over me/ And above me I see nobody,” he raps on the song’s second verse.

Though it seems like a slow start to kick off the intro, the beat switch halfway through the track into a more soulful, upbeat production where Drake opens up about the pressure, as a rapper and his stature as a celebrity. “Man, I can’t even RIP and show my remorse to the homie/ Know I carry the guilt of the city’s misfortune on me,” he raps on the track.

Quotable Lyrics
Every single move is like rolling dice on the board
Seen too many brothers get twenty-five from the boys
I’d rather see all of ’em get twenty-five from the Lord
And if the last negotiation made you pay me twenty-five
Well this is the perfect time to give me twenty-five more

Consequence Takes Aim At Drake In New Diss Track, “Party Time”

Consequence dropped a new diss track targeting Drake, Saturday night, amidst a long-running feud between Kanye West and his affiliates and Drake and his affiliates. Both camps have been sending shots at each other in music and over social media during the rollout for both Donda and Certified Lover Boy.

“Since ‘Life of The Party got Leaked… I guess it’s Party Time #QueensAllDay,” Con announced on Twitter, Saturday, referencing Drake’s decision to leak West’s collaboration with Andre 3000.

Con later revealed exclusively to HNHH that the track would be dropping tonight.

“Party Time” sees Con going directly at the Toronto rapper. “Who told Aubs that he can play with them? / That boy Cons can run the fade with them / I wish we could shoot five instead of group chats / Next time bring Chubbs when you shoot back,” he raps on the new diss track.

Quotable Lyrics

We know two wrongs never makes things right
But when you insinuate, you are with the next man’s wife
You might as well say you’ll take the next man’s life
’Cause that’s a dark place that makes most men fight

Eli Fross Drops “Exposing Me Part II”

Brooklyn drill is still flourishing, whether it’s on the main stage with artists like the late Pop Smoke or the budding underground scene that’s delivering some of the rawest and unadulterated rap music right now. Eli Fross has been among those leading the wave from Brooklyn and beyond and this week, he returned with his latest offering, “Exposing Me Part II.” Fross’s confidence carries throughout the track as he details the bleak reality in the streets and his rising profile over sinister production. “N***as say soon be your time, see me, I’m speeding up the clock,” he raps.

Fross made headlines earlier this year after he was removed from Pop Smoke’s record, “Top Shotta” on Faith.

Check out his new single, “Exposing Me Part II” below.

Krizz Kaliko Is Applying “Pressure” On New Single

Krizz Kaliko has been applying pressure at any moment that he can. Whether it’s the release of new music, or a new album, or even his typically packed tour schedule, the rapper has continued to deliver the same level of lyrical excellence with each and every release. So, it only made sense that his latest single was titled, “Pressure” where he makes it clear that he isn’t playing. The song kicks off with a slow-burning build-up as Krizz flexes his melodic side. Once the beat drops, Krizz dives into the production with beastly flows.

Krizz Kaliko’s unveiled a few singles this year, including “Feelin’ Good” ft. Futuristic. The rapper’s last album, Legend, was released in 2020.

Check out the latest single from Krizz Kaliko below and sound off with your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics
I’mma push it like the whole party needed me to turn up
That’s a bet, my baby mama Cardi, I’m Offset
Repossess things I ain’t bought yet
I always think I got corona, ain’t nobody heard me cough yet
