Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar’s Dynamic Is On Display On “Range Brothers”

Baby Keem’s The Melodic Blue has arrived in full, and many are still unpacking the project in these early hours. Officially the first release of Kendrick Lamar’s pgLang label, K Dot’s involvement has been a focal point for many curious fans. Yet it’s his cousin Keem who is the star of this particular show, and what a strange and fascinating circus it is.

Nowhere is that more evident than “Range Brothers,” a track that has already gained notoriety thanks to a few interesting choice ad-libs from Kendrick — “top of the morning” and “she’s hot” come to mind. Yet beyond the tongue-in-cheek comedic elements, “Range Brothers” deserves credit for its diverse production and dynamic performance from Keem. Though you may have already developed an opinion before diving in based entirely on a ten-second burst of Kendrick shenanigans, consider diving in to “Range Brothers” with an open mind.

For those that have — where do you stand on the zany (and surprisingly orchestral) track, as well as The Melodic Blue in its entirety?

Quotable Lyrics

I was raised in the projects, we could go at it, nigga
I can’t waste no time on a co-edded, nigga
Bro-code, me an’ Dad count through seven figures
Raised around bottles and dope fiends
On a high since the day I turned sixteen
747, I’m starin’ at plane wings
Prayin’ the Lord’s seen, Grandma prayin’ for me

Quotable Lyrics:

He walked in the spot
They told him, “Strip, cough, squat”
The C.O. just told him that this is procedure but he knew in his mind that he was doin’ a lot
He had to figure it out and then learn all the rules and then follow them, like it or not
He caught a new charge ’cause he had a little weed
Tryna sneak this shit in, it was right in his sock
Yeah, they had him intake for like a week
They hate his guts, they think he killed police
They made it super cold with the AC
They ain’t give him no blanket, they ain’t give him no sheets

Quotable Lyrics

I’ve been duckin’ my friends, I’ve been stuck on my ends
Memories about people all in my head
First come to mind is my mama buyin’ me Jordans
Are we really made equal? ‘Cause everybody got plans
I can’t go ghost, I face demons
Don’t let it defeat you, all in my hands

Spends so fast so she won’t fall

She’s built a wall of her redeemers
Keep out the question:

Leakers freestyle.

Quotable Lyrics

Sometimes I go offline to get these lines off
My crown chakra’s like a Chi-town opera
Violence, violence, they broke in my crib and seen Oscars
Emmys, Grammys, damn he
Near a EGOT and he still Hip Hop
I’m to rap what Bird is to Bebop, what AI is to Reebok
What Jada is to D-Block, the game need a detox
Go get your turmeric, your Dr. Sebi Sea Moss
Burning sands that we crossed for the tribes that we lost
In a war with stars, I make niggas into ewoks
