Big Scarr & Hotboy Wes Team Up On “Free Smoke”

The rap game wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for Gucci Mane. He’s released classic projects and maintains a high standard with each album that he produces. During the mixtape run, he was introducing artists to the fold and putting them on massive platforms before anyone else knew who they were. These days, Gucci seems to be settling into the position of being a record label executive more comfortably than he has in the past. The 1017 roster is proof of that.

On Friday, Hotboy Wes and Big Scarr came through with a menacing banger titled, “Free Smoke.” Sinister trap production sits behind them as they detail the harsh realities of the environments they came from.

Check the latest track from Hotboy Wes and Big Scarr below.

Quotable Lyrics
My dawg in the pen, hope they let him up outta there
Trapped everyday ’cause his fetish narcotics
He wrote me a letter, he told me he love me
Just keep me some metal and step on they collar

Rucci, AzChike, Boosie Badazz, AzSwaye, & Pjay Are The Avengers On “Hoodrat”

Boosie is a veteran of the game and for many, he is a legend that you absolutely need to work with. Throughout his career, Boosie has shown love to younger artists and he doesn’t mind venturing outside of Louisiana to find new talent. For instance, Boosie recently linked up with Inglewood artists Rucci and AzChike for a brand new track called “Hoodrat” which also features the likes of AzSwaye and Pjay.

As you will immediately hear from this track, there is an undeniable L.A. sound that AzSwaye and Rucci play to perfection. On Boosie’s braggadocios verse, he offers up some solid bars and he sounds as focused as ever. While the track is only 2:30 long, all five artists get their shine and it makes for a truly great collaboration.

Quotable Lyrics:

I need gangsta ass bitch with a choppa and a Uzi
Tell her make it shake turn a n**** to a smoothie
Pussy too good I had to spy on that coochie

Lil Tjay Hops On The Remix Of Fresco Trey’s “Feel Good”

Earlier this year, rising Memphis artist Fresco Trey dropped a summer-ready track called “Feel Good” which came equipped with some upbeat production and good vibes. Overall, it was well-received by fans which led to solid streaming numbers. Now, seven months later, Fresco Trey is back with a remix of the song that features budding superstar Lil Tjay, who has been on a feature streak as of late.

While both artists have very different styles, they still work together in perfect harmony as Trey begins the track with a melodic verse and chorus that features his Memphis-inspired intonation. Lil Tjay’s inclusion in the song helps to enhance the summer vibe as the artist’s rap-singing style gets a chance to shine.

Haviah Mighty Runs It Up On “Tesla”

After securing the 2019 Polaris Music Prize with Thirteen, Haviah Mighty has been delivering banger after banger throughout 2021. The Toronto rapper came through this week with her latest release, “Tesla.” Tackling 808-driven trap production — produced by Haviah and Young Dreadz —  she showcases her lyrical aptitude with some A1 flexes about reaching new heights.

“One thing I’ve always worried about is being stagnant and only being recognized for the last thing that I’ve done, so maintaining this work ethic has to be a focal point for me,” she said in a statement. “While much of this song talks about the things that I feel I’m on my way to achieving, some of which being those nice-to-have material things – for me, these things are symbolic of something more abstract – a lifestyle that I couldn’t fathom prior.”

Quotable Lyrics

Baby Keem Shares His Gratitude On “first order of business”

It’s been an impressive month for Baby Keem. There aren’t many artists in the world who can say they’ve appeared on Kanye West’s album and brought Kendrick Lamar out of his shell but Keem’s managed to do both. On DONDA, he delivered a stand-out verse on “Praise God” alongside his “du-rag activity” partner, Travis Scott. Then, “family ties” found him swapping bars with a modern-day GOAT. All of this led to the release of his new album, The Melodic Blue.

The highly-anticipated debut album from Baby Keem showcases his pop sensibilities, humor, along with his vulnerabilities. None sum it up quite as well as on “first order of business.” With an infectious hook and bouncy jazz chords popping over crisp 808s, Keem reflects on all of his blessings, thanks his mother, and wishes for better karma.

Quotable Lyrics

Can’t focus on the petty, they’ll come back and destroy me

His latest is called “Shivers” and it even comes with a music video.

As you will immediately hear from this track, it has that catchy Ed Sheeran sound to it as we get your typical pop production and powerful hooks. At times, Sheeran will take fans down a sadder path although, on this song, the artist remains upbeat throughout. Overall, it’s a solid effort, and you can check it out, below.

Compton & Brooklyn Unite On Azjah and Dusty Locane’s “Try It (Remix)”

Compton’s Azjah has recruited Brooklyn’s Dusty Locane for the assist on the remix to her “Try It” cut, updating the standout originally found on her 1:03 AM release. The track is a guitar-driven account in which the two artists issue warnings to the opposition: “Play it cool cause I know when I take it there, it’s no going back.”

On the remix, Dusty Locane’s guttural delivery provides balance, continuing to support the New Yorker’s campaign in etching a proper path for himself.

Azjah’s 1:03 AM first arrived in June, placing the west coast artist at the forefront as her melodic storytelling makes a case for her current ascension as she tapped names like Yung Bleu and Mayhrenate as featured voices on the effort.

Quotable Lyrics

Put you in my hoes, how would you react?
Set a ni–a up with a booby trap
Fake love, know we used to that
Say you a baller, where your shooters at?

-Dusty Locane

Freddie Gibbs Responds To Kendrick Lamar On New Track, “Vice Lord Poetry”

Freddie Gibbs sent shots at Kendrick Lamar on his new track, “Vice Lord Poetry,” which sees the Gary, Indiana rapper performing over Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy” intro, “Champagne Poetry.”

On Friday, Vezzo came through with his latest effort which is a track called “5 Milli.” The song features that signature style of Detroit rap that has become so popular as of late, and there is no doubt that Vezzo has perfected the sound.
